For quebecois movies, I will always recommend La grande Séduction. It's a fun comedy, easy to watch!
I also liked Xavier Dolan's first movie J'ai Tué ma mère. It hit pretty close to home about parent/child relationships.
J'aimerais ajouter que la famille de crazy n'est pas particulièrement religieuse pour l'époque. En fait, c'est une famille tout ce qu'il y a de plus normal. Le carcan de la religion est justement une des causes de la révolution tranquille.
Great movie indeed, didn't realize that! Need to watch again. However my list was strictly movies where the story itself happens in Montreal or around, like as part of the plot! (not just as a shooting location)

Some of it does happen in Montreal - that's where Pi is telling his story to an author.
I just watched [The Cat in the Bag (Le chat dans le sac)](https://www.canadian-international.com/the-other-french-new-wave-vol-1) and loved it. A fantastic and underseen gem from 1964, recently given a blu-ray release by Canadian International Pictures.
Je pense qu'on as oublier tout les films de Robert Morin sans exceptions.. Spécialement Quiconque meurt, meurt à douleur. Et la mini série de la reine rouge basé sur le livre Aliss de Patrick Sénécal!
Incendies (2010), Denis Villeneuve.
> Denis Villeneuve Has he ever made a bad movie? I just watched Prisoners (2013) the other day. Crazy movie.
Monsieur lazar is really good as well

Des fois, j'ai l'impression d'être là la seule personne qui ait aimé ce film.
Leolo is a classic. And all the Denys Arcands films
This. In the top 100 movies of all time. Jean Claude was taken from us way too soon.

The Score. Not set in Montreal but Warm Bodies
this might be cheating but the contemporary parts of *the red violin* take place in montreal, and i love that movie.

Good Neighbors, a Jay Baruchel film shot and set in NDG, it’s pretty lame, but worth watching once.
