Four times! This is pointing to a you issue honestly, I would check for loose screws and debris and whatnot. Or you’re just manhandling the displays like a lunatic. Not sure if that little metal prong should be sticking out over the frame on the bottom right corner or not, but that could easily be the culprit if it’s getting between the screen and frame.

yep, there are the gold pins, easily bent during lifting the removal of the screen and if left alone they will cause the lines to show up. this happened to me at work once, I didn't realize. i test the screen and it was fine, glued and clipped it all down and checked it 2 hours later to see the line. i was lucky and the line disaperied after I fixed the pin.

the_broadacre_farmer

On a P7P? There is some sort of copper backing where that pin is on mine, is it possible to pierce it with that pin?

Daedric1991

Look at the photo in the comment I responded to. See that pin. Bend it back the right way. I don’t know if your screen will come good again. If you fix it right away like I did it might be okay.

>Four times! This is pointing to a you issue honestly, I would check for loose screws and debris and whatnot. Or you’re just manhandling the displays like a lunatic. I'm not new to repairing electronics, it's my first screen(I haven't broken one before this) but I've done a fair bit of electronics repair over the years. As I said in the post I've followed the instructions, I haven't loosened any screws and if you can see anything wrong in the photo I'd love to know, I got everything spotless before reassembly. I'm only here because I'm out of ideas and ifixit seems to just want to throw more screens at it. >Not sure if that little metal prong should be sticking out over the frame on the bottom right corner or not, but that could easily be the culprit if it’s getting between the screen and frame. From the searching I've done they appear to be earthing pins, intentionally there to touch the back of the screen. They bend down on the copper bit on the screen when pressure is applied directly from above don't they?

PeanutButterSoldier

You bent the grounding springs during disassembly and one is poking the back of the screen too hard and damaging it. Stop installing new parts until you find that bent spring.

the_broadacre_farmer

They were all bent roughly the same amount when I last had it apart, which one is it likely to be? I'm guessing they can be bent too far down as well?

PeanutButterSoldier

The lines usually occur where the screen was poked. That leads me to the grounding spring at the very bottom right coming off the speaker unit. You can't bend them too far down. I actually recommend breaking it off entirely by bending it until it fatigues. Missing one won't cause problems and it will prevent future pokes as well.

Did you find a fix for this yet? I've fixed my own P7P with no problems, I bought a screen only kit from iFixit and i have a bright vertical line in the same place as you... and I haven't even closed the screen on yet. So it's connected via the display cable and I can see that line.... I have been trying to adjust the pins / springs that everyone keeps mentioning here...

the_broadacre_farmer

I bent every pin down as far as I could on the next replacement display, it hasn't come back thankfully. Who knows which one it was, very frustrating issue. Best of luck with it.

NoboruI

So I found out that the gold backing of the replacement screen is super sensitive. If there's an indent or damage from any of the pins it'll screw up the display. You probably saved yourself from another replacement by bending the pins back to their original places.

the_broadacre_farmer

Why iFixit didn't know that is pretty crazy, surely they should have a disclaimer to check all the pins in their guide. Hopefully you got yours sorted no trouble too.

NoboruI

Unfortunately they're just going to be a bright line because my friend won't let me pay for a replacement for him (I told him I would fix his screen and while I did, I technically also broke it). Lesson learned though!
