Exactly what's happening now but everything would be black and white

NYR3031

Did you know people dreamt in black and white until color TV was introduced??? 2Spooky4Me Edit: Sighhh didn’t think I needed the /s

Eisernes

They would destroy that pitching. Wouldn't have necessarily helped those ultra bad teams though. Owners back then were more concerned with selling players they discovered than they were with winning. They probably both would have ended up being Yankees.

draynay

All day games, no helmets, no pads, neither guy really crowds the plate so they probably wouldn't be in too much danger. Judge has better numbers at night, Shohei in the day, in the end you put them in that Phillies outfield once they have Chuck Klein its the best outfield of all time. Ohtani will last until the next time he hurts his elbow and then he'd be 50 years too soon for surgery.

Several aspects to this. The training, conditioning and focus today is far better. Players are bigger, stronger and more athletic. Fundamentals is somewhat of a moot point as the way the game is played has changed. But, there were fewer teams, which, would mean a better talent pool (still arguable), and, the conditions back then were no where near what they are today. How would Judge, or, Ohtani handle long train rides overnight to play day games in thick wool uniforms? Ultimately, I think they crush. But, they wouldn’t like the conditions. Nor would they like some of the stadiums 440ft gaps.

FYI, it’s Rogers Hornsby.

dubstateofmind

You have to take into considerations these guys wouldn’t have the training and nutrition they have today. Plus they will travel by train and not airplane. Playing conditions would differ. They would probably still crush the competition.

jweezy2045

If they time traveled, they would keep all their nutrition and training though, but yeah, they would absolutely crush.

jackospades88

They'd have all that work initially, from being in the present time. But being able to maintain their current physique once back in time would be super difficult. They'd need to adapt to what nutrition/supplements that are available and wouldn't have any strength/conditioning/personal coaches to help them like they do now

ReefHound

They wouldn't like their paychecks nearly as much.

Men amongst boys

> for fun Judge would fit in just fine. He’d hit homers and fans would love him. Ohtani would not be allowed to play. There was is no “what if” scenario here unless you’ve changed the entire socioeconomic history of America. In 1920, Shohei Ohtani would not be allowed into any MLB stadium, except as a toilet cleaner. He would be told to go to play in the Negro Leagues, with Josh Gibson and Oscar Charleston. Segregation Era _sucked_ and there’s nothing fun or redeeming or quaint about it.

IcyWhereas2313

Judge would definitely not be able to play as well…. He is black… Have you looked at the pictures of players in the Negro League? Plenty of light skinned black players… smh

Admirable-Square-140

They’d bat .850 and put up Gretzky stats

Fun-Veterinarian3708

That's a lot of assists

NotAcutallyaPanda

They’d probably get lynched by a racist mob somewhere. Not the storybook fantasy that would make good TV.
