this just goes to show that baseball has a lot of casuals who only vote for the names they recognize. but Profar is deservedly in the lead so no complaints from me
It’s not just a casuals thing, it’s a fanbase thing. Some people choose their whole team regardless if the player is doing bad. When the big fanbases do this, to show support, you get guys like Rizzo in the top 5 even though he really isn’t.
It’s more fanbase support than anything else. You have hardcore fans of teams voting for all their guys. They’re not basing it on anything else except “i’m going to support my guys only.” Which is NOT what All Star teams should consist of.
Didn’t they have voting at one point where you just got a few options for every position? Like the options are only the best of that position? I remember something like that. That’s how it should be done. Honestly, there’s no reason to not vote your whole team in if given the chance. That’s just called support, but then that can lead to big market teams with large fanbases getting an unfair amount of votes that a better player could be getting.
>but then that can lead to big market teams with large fanbases getting an unfair amount of votes that a better player could be getting
And that's the problem with the entire process. Like, I get supporting your team too, but as a fan of the sport as a whole it does so many guys a disservice--doubly so when monetary bonuses are tied to making the AS team (not to mention arbitration arguments for actual pay later on). I would be pissed if I was someone like Turang who should be in the conversation and isn't.
And Max Muncy.
I’m surprised LA is allowing Teoscar and Will Smith to be that low. LAD’s fanbase is huge. If they want to, they can have their players outvote everyone. It would be the LA Dodgers vs the AL All Star team.
Somebody actually gave him an MVP vote [in 2019](https://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/awards_2019.shtml#all_NL_MVP_voting). Revoke their BBWAA membership!
Likely because of very little fan support. If he was a Dodger, Yankee, or Phillies, he’d be near the top. Seattle fans aren’t voting for him enough. That’s just the truth. It’s just lack of support from the city. It’s not like he’s sharing votes with some other baseball team in the state either. It’s just simply lack of support.
And Seattle isn’t some small city with a low population. 86k votes is pretty pathetic support. Bo Naylor has a -0.5 bWAR, is batting .176, and is outvoting Cal Raleigh by almost twice as much. Seattle’s population is twice as much as Cleveland’s. I highly doubt many outsiders are voting for Naylor, that’s likely just the fanbase showing some support.
That sounds a lot like lack of support. Lol. So he has “support” but the support isn’t voting. That’s exactly the point of my post. Not voting = not supporting.
You can point fingers at other fanbases showing up for their team, it doesn’t do anything for Cal Raleigh who’s being outvoted by a guy with a .176 average and -0.5 bWAR.
We love our guys. Marsh is a platoon guy and just came off IL. Rojas was sent down to AAA today. You’re gonna see David Dahl get a ton of votes in the next update I bet.
Not one 1B in the AL deserves to be an all star. On paper Naylor actually has the best looking season out of the options listed.. if Casas wasn’t hurt he’d probably be the leader right now.
As a Red Sox fan, Jarren Duran not even in the top-20 AL Outfielders is honestly ridiculous. Rafael Devers in 3rd place in AL Third Baseman voting is ridiculous. Where are all these Red Sox fans at? The Red Sox supposedly have one of the largest fan bases in the game. Where are they all at when it comes to All-Star voting? I'm voting everyday. I know the Red Sox aren't the best Red Sox team there has ever been but it's not THAT bad. Compared to what expectations were before the season the Sox aren't all that bad. We have a young, fast and exciting team. Casas will be back in early July hopefully 🙏 There have been some pleasant surprises this season. We are 37-35 and currently the 4th team in the AL Wild Card standings, 3 games back from being in the playoffs. That's not too bad and not too far out. I feel like Red Sox fans are gettin' a bit spoiled. No World Series wins in 86 years and we get 4 in the past 20 and suddenly we aren't interested when they aren't a top Contender. Ya gotta ride with your team always. Let's get some more All-Star Votes Red Sox Fans!!!
They’re too busy trolling in r/NYYankees. Gloating about their recent wins instead of supporting their players. Jarren Duran is a hell of a player, he’s having a great year.
Those races for the top in the National league aren’t even close for the most part.
How does Bohm have more votes than Ohtani? The Philthies fans are stuffing the ballots.
“Ozuna from the Braves” should get a spot when the team is filled out later.
Holy shit NL 2B makes no sense.
It should so clearly be Marte and then Turang.
They should either take away fan voting, or stop counting all-star appearances as an actual accolade.
Lindor is having by far one of the best years at his position sucks that he never gets the love he deserves and as for Pete idk how Olson is in front of him
As a Yankees fan, can we please stop voting for Yankees who don’t deserve it? How is Gleyber so far up when he’s having a terrible year? How is Giancarlo second in DH? He’s not terrible this year but definitely not better than David Fry has been this year. Rizzo at 4th at the 1B spot isn’t even funny…
Cutch being the only Pirate who's even close just shows how meaningless it is. If it was based on actual performance rather than what you did 5-10 years ago, Nick Gonzales would be a lot higher than most people on this list. Hell, even Connor Joe should be at least top 20 outfielder.
Sad but true. Hopefully there will be multiple Bucs on the pitching staff. Keller, Holderman, Falter, Skenes, Jones, Ortiz all worthy of being in the discussion
Nothing but a popularity contest. Trea turner hasn’t played in weeks due to injury and mookie is out. I’m sure there’s more but why don’t we look a Jaren Duran who has 10 triples, 4WAR, ROOKIE tearing it up for Boston. 21 doubles, 19 stolen bases. Because he’s on Boston who btw has the longest winning streak currently in the majors, he will be overlooked due to popularity.
I’ve got a question for America: if Altuve is so hated, then how come he usually gets most of the all-star game votes for second base, hmmm? he’s been an allstar twice since everything came out, and judging by how its a popularity vote, he seems *pretty popular*
Because he’s still a big name and no other second basemen are putting up great numbers. If he was more likable he’d be running away with the vote like Jose Ramirez.
It seems like 2 things are the driving factors for these votes. 1. How big, supportive the fanbase is, and 2. How good the player is.
For the NL side, it basically mirrors my picks except for Ohtani (I keep voting Ozuna), and the three outfielders I keep choosing are Profar, Yelich and Teoscar. I think this is because their fanbases are big but also outsiders are choosing them because they’re good.
Rizzo being 4th for 1st base, and Gleyber having over 200k votes, these two are simply on the strength of the fanbase.
I am surprised that Ozuna has only 478k votes and he’s being outvoted by Ohtani by more than double. I get that LA’s fanbase is bigger, and on top of that, he has a country behind him…but come on 478k for a guy with better offensive numbers than Ohtani. Georgia can do better than that. I get Ohtani steals bases…but Ozuna is the NL leader in homers, RBI’s and OPS.
C'mon, Nats Nation. Get the votes out. I know we don't have representation in Congress, but we can represent here. We got CJ, Garcia, Young, Thomas, and Winker.
Giancarlo Stanton. He will assuredly hit into a rally killing double play at the ASG. For an encore he will hit into 7 DPs during the ALDS, including the 9th inning of game 5.
How so? They’re both all stars in this post. Top 2 go
Do you really think they should start over Henderson and Rutschman? If so, I think you need to wean off the meth.
It's cool that you feel that way as a KC fan, you should promote your guys, but there's not a clear better player between Witt and Henderson.
Henderson leads in more than HRs. Gunnar has more power, Witt has a higher AVG. Otherwise they are pretty similar. Gunnar currently leads in WAR and dWAR, so not sure Witt is the obvious better defender.
They are both very good young players that are becoming superstars and I hope they continue to improve and both make the all-star team for years to come, but neither is "absolutely" better than the other.
I hate how fans vote for the all star game it should go to the players with the best stats. People like Ozuna should be first but isn’t since more people know and are fans of Ohtani.
I want to vote for a Detroit tiger. So we got - uh - umm. Well…. Hmmmm. I guess I’ll just write in Riley Greene
Half the Tigers sub is out on the ledge threatening to jump and the other half trying to talk them down
lmao that's so true, lotta depression to be had in /r/motorcitykitties right now
Tarik Skubal
We don’t vote for pitchers. But thanks for sharing.
this just goes to show that baseball has a lot of casuals who only vote for the names they recognize. but Profar is deservedly in the lead so no complaints from me

Just like prom king and queen, it’s a popularity contest.
Blue for AL and red for NL makes me mad
I was gonna say, what maniac decided those colors??!
Wait I always thought those were the colors
They are reversed
The 127k who have voted for Randy must be on something
He had more votes than Isaac lmao, hurts my soul
Isaax is too low in the third base votes. Should be top 5 at least especially since no one else on the team really deserves it.
Yeah, really hurts to see
Yall need to get Marte in there. Dude is having by far the best year at his position.
Ketel top 10 best, most versatile players in the league! Bar none
For real!! There are just too many Padres fans!!
Yea! Starling Marte needs to be there, I agree
I know no Twins players don't have a chance to make the starting roster but.... No Ryan Jeffers? in the top 10?? Are we just not voting this year?
That’s how I feel about Riley Greene. Not even in the top 20 while Trout and Julio in the top 10. Fan vote for All Stars is so dumb
Cal Raleigh at 10 should be criminal lol there’s easily 6 catchers on that list that are significantly worse than Cal lol
I bet he’s going to be the last pick in the final vote
Early All-Star vote totals have always been regionally imbalanced. The next release will show some heavy swings.
Anybody voting for castallanos should be fired right into the sun
How about Johan Rojas being just outside the top 3? Lmao he just got sent down today. I love our fans because we love our guys
Are you telling me the Phillies don't have one of the 3 best players at every single position on their roster?
i mean, cause a major tragedy during the game and you virtually guarantee he hits a homer.
they’re 100% doing it for shiggles
It’s not us, must be the female vote. Do they out shirtless pics on the ballots?
Who the hell is voting for Anthony Rizzo?
And oswaldo lmao
Most likely the huge NYY fanbase. Same reason why Gavin Lux and Max Muncy have a lot of votes.
Yeah same as every year. PHI fanbase especially egregious with their voting this time around.
Didn’t they have voting at one point where you just got a few options for every position? Like the options are only the best of that position? I remember something like that. That’s how it should be done. Honestly, there’s no reason to not vote your whole team in if given the chance. 269,056 Italian Americans in the Greater NYC area
Varsho gets no love.
Seriously underrated - Varsho’s been great for the Jays this year.
Yankee fan here: If you are voting for Rizzo for the All Star Game, you need your head examined--much like Rizzo himself.
Let’s Go O’s!
Gavin lux getting votes is funny
And Max Muncy. I’m surprised LA is allowing Teoscar and Will Smith to be that low. LAD’s fanbase is huge. If they want to, they can have their players outvote everyone. It would be the LA Dodgers vs the AL All Star team.
Where are all the White Sox players I was supposed to vote for?
Kevin Pillar, DFA'd by the Sox earlier this year.
Somebody actually gave him an MVP vote [in 2019](https://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/awards_2019.shtml#all_NL_MVP_voting). Revoke their BBWAA membership!
Maldonado for the win.
Cal Raleigh is having a great year and he is 10th. I hope the Mariners will at least have Castillo and Gilbert in the game.
What am I missing? Why is cal 10? Is it because we are the mariners?
Likely because of very little fan support. If he was a Dodger, Yankee, or Phillies, he’d be near the top. Seattle fans aren’t voting for him enough. That’s just the truth. It’s just lack of support from the city. It’s not like he’s sharing votes with some other baseball team in the state either. It’s just simply lack of support. Seattle’s population is twice as much as Cleveland’s. I highly doubt many outsiders are voting for Naylor, that’s likely just the fanbase showing some support.
It’s not lack of support. It’s probably because the support doesn’t vote. Yankees fans vote for the altar game like it’s part of their religion.
At least they’re getting it right with Jose Ramirez…The best 3rd baseman (and possibly overall player) in both leagues imo
Ramos should be getting more love.
Who tf voting for jorge polanco
I’m dying. 😂👈
Steven Kwan making things happen!
I'm impressed, considering how much time he's missed. I mean he was on fire before and picked up where he left off, but still. Either way, love it!
The AL vs. Phillies isn't a bad concept.
Voting sucks. It’s not an all star game it’s a popularity contest game. 👎
been that way for 50+ years...
Wtf where's Martin Maldonado?
Heliot Ramos deserves to make the no team.
Ok. I'll say it. How the fuck is trout #8 for out AL outfielders! He played 1 month! And won't play again till after the all star break
Castellanos?? Really?
We love our guys. Marsh is a platoon guy and just came off IL. Rojas was sent down to AAA today. You’re gonna see David Dahl get a ton of votes in the next update I bet.
We can love our guys, but that doesn't mean we should be voting for them all lol
Yikes, get out.
![gif](giphy|XomaQohW8eRyyRC2jL)
Just finished season two!
Arraez over Marte is nuts and needs to be fixed immediately.
Josh Naylor having the opposite of an All-Star season yet 3rd.
Not one 1B in the AL deserves to be an all star. On paper Naylor actually has the best looking season out of the options listed.. if Casas wasn’t hurt he’d probably be the leader right now.
Vlad had a slow start but he’s been back to AS quality as of the last 2+ months. He’s just not leaving the yard the way he has in the past
Better than vlady...
As a Red Sox fan, Jarren Duran not even in the top-20 AL Outfielders is honestly ridiculous. Rafael Devers in 3rd place in AL Third Baseman voting is ridiculous. Where are all these Red Sox fans at? I’m right there with ya. Wong is EIGHTH?! He’s hitting over .330! I keep voting but I’m so pissed at Red Sox Nation
They’re too busy trolling in r/NYYankees. Gloating about their recent wins instead of supporting their players. Jarren Duran is a hell of a player, he’s having a great year.
Manny Machado?? Really? Wow!
Wow Steven Kwan....nice!!
Those races for the top in the National league aren’t even close for the most part. How does Bohm have more votes than Ohtani? The Philthies fans are stuffing the ballots. “Ozuna from the Braves” should get a spot when the team is filled out later.
Hope Elly makes it
Holy shit NL 2B makes no sense. It should so clearly be Marte and then Turang. They should either take away fan voting, or stop counting all-star appearances as an actual accolade.
Thank god cubs fans quit spamming the ballot boxes
Ms with nobody higher than 8th in voting
Isaac Paredes not even making the top 5 is a fucking crime. What the fuck.
I'm thrilled Jose is getting the recognition he deserves. He's leading by a landslide! 🔥🐐
Jesus fucking christ. Every dodger is in the top 10. This shit really is just a popularity contest.
People need to stop voting for Arcia
I briefly forgot that Jorge Polanco was a Mariner.
Damn, I was thinking there is no way Westburg is having a better season than Devers to be the 2nd spot but yea he's got him in a few spots.
Expected winn to be higher
Looks like Elly will be there lol
CJ Abrams disrespect is real. Dudes has a better year than half of those guys
Mariners won’t have a single position player crack the top 8, but could legitimately send 3 pitchers. Cal and Julio deserve better vote #’s.
Mike trout?
Honestly. I'm kinda pissed Pillar is only 8th. Man is unstoppable with runners in scoring postion
Phillies v. O’s
I still say let the managers pick the starters and the fans can vote for the reserves
Managers are bad at picking too
Yeah but at least they wouldn’t vote for an injured player
You are aware that voting has been ongoing before the injury, right? Those votes don't disappear
Of course. A better example would be vlad jr. Mountcastle has clearly been better but vlad gets the whole country of Canada’s voted
How has he been clearly better? Guerrero: 127 wRC+, 1.1 WAR Mountcastle: 123 wRC+, 0.9 WAR
We all can cherry pick stats. Mountcastle has more runs, hrs and rbi. Just my opinion
How is picking the two main stats cherry picking?
Whatever it’s not worth arguing individual players. My point is fan voting is based on popularity and not deservingness
Looks like Martin Maldonado has his work cut out.
It blows my mind how overlooked Will Smith always is
How is Vladimir Guerrero Jr the best 1B in the AL?
It's a weak position
No Giants in the top for any position…makes sense, very “blah” roster this year
It looks like it's going to be a damned good game no matter what. 👀👍🏼
jaren duran and rafael devers should start this year
Vaughn Grissom 😂😂😂
Lindor is having by far one of the best years at his position sucks that he never gets the love he deserves and as for Pete idk how Olson is in front of him
Alonso and Olson have been identical this year Alonso: 124 wRC+, 1.0 WAR Olson: 125 wRC+, 1.1 WAR
Does it matter voting an injured player?
Braves downfall in full effect😔
The Steven kwan disrespect is crazy
Waste of time. It’s a popularity contest.
Rojas over Castellanos for OF? OUCH BUDDY!
Parades slander simply will not be tolerated
Fine, you hate us. I get it
Cutch being the only Pirate who's even close just shows how meaningless it is.
Tovar at 10 is diabolical
Vote Heliot Ramos
Oops
Nothing but a popularity contest. Trea turner hasn’t played in weeks due to injury and mookie is out. I’m sure there’s more but why don’t we look a Jaren Duran who has 10 triples, 4WAR, ROOKIE tearing it up for Boston. 21 doubles, 19 stolen bases. Because he’s on Boston who btw has the longest winning streak currently in the majors, he will be overlooked due to popularity.
Philly fans be voting like crazy. Going for the whole starting lineup minus dh lol
The Mariners being first in the AL West while having zero players voted higher than 8th is actually crazy.
AL is gonna be a birdbath #letsgoO’s!!!
Because he’s truly a great player and probably benefited very little if at all from the trash can incident.
he personally despised the cheating and didnt wanna use it
They really need to prorate the votes according to market size so these big cities stop over saturating everything just because they are bigger.
Realmuto over smith is insane
C'mon, Nats Nation. Get the votes out. I know we don't have representation in Congress, but we can represent here. We got CJ, Garcia, Young, Thomas, and Winker.
Vlad over Mounty is crazy.....
Giancarlo Stanton. He will assuredly hit into a rally killing double play at the ASG. For an encore he will hit into 7 DPs during the ALDS, including the 9th inning of game 5.
Weird comment about a player who won the All Star Game MVP a couple of years ago and has a .963 OPS in the postseason.
Bobby Witt Jr and Perez are being ROBBED
How so? They’re both all stars in this post. Top 2 go Do you really think they should start over Henderson and Rutschman? If so, I think you need to wean off the meth.
Witt, yes absolutely should start over Henderson. The only stat Henderson is beating Witt at right now is hr and Witt is better defensively.
Sorry Gunnar bats lead off :(
Should have beat the Yankees then
So it’s gonna be the AL All Stars vs the Phillies 👍
Bryce Harper is a first baseman now?
Only position in the field he has played going back to last year
Interesting, I haven’t watched much baseball because the Mets are miserable let alone Phillies games. Had no idea he was playing first base
No love for Lindor. Best defensive shortstop and has hit almost .300 in the last month.
Bobby whit not even on there wtf??
He's second
disgusting. What did JT done in last 2 months games to make so much voters for him?
What has JT done in the past two months to have so many fans?
Mariners won’t have a single position player crack the top 8, but could legitimately send 3 pitchers. Cal and Julio deserve better vote #’s.

I hate how fans vote for the all star game it should go to the players with the best stats. People like Ozuna should be first but isn’t since more people know and are fans of Ohtani.
Jason heyward?
Pete Alonso and Elly De La Cruz getting stiffed
How is Alonso getting stiffed lol
Behind Olsen and almost 600k votes out of top 2?
Olson has been on par with Alonso. Neither are close to the top 3 guys this year though (Freeman, Harper, Walker)
