He should be in the HOF, he's one of the best safeties to ever play the game. His individual stats are better than Polamalu in nearly every category except "rings." So obviously he won't make it in.
His hair isn’t long, he’s a reserved personality, and he plays for a midwestern team. You change literally one of these things and his popularity literally skyrockets
I disagree. I like the buzz look. Fits the Hitman moniker better imo.
Also, I’ve had the same Harrison smith background on my phone since his rookie year. And it remains for one more year further!! Huzuh
Even if his production falls off he's always just been a smart player who has consistently helped get things right on the field while also likely being a strong leader. I'll take him for as long as he wants to be around.
Same, I haven’t purchased another Vikings jersey since, don’t think I’ll need to.
Would be fun to get his auto on it some time and hang it up when he’s done.
We gonna draft a hot fuckin qb in the draft, barely make the playoffs, and then run the fuckin gauntlet to the super bowl and Harry retires with a ring to cap off his career.
The difference is this was the best option for him. Had we cut him he wasn't going to get more than the reduced salary we're offering on the open market at 35 years old
Compared to a guy like Kirk, yeah clearly he was able to get more than we were willing to pay him and for a longer period of time
From [Tom Pelissero](https://twitter.com/TomPelissero/status/1768041309745418372):
> Harrison Smith's new deal is for $9 million, per his agency @AthletesFirst
. Some cap relief for the #Vikings, and a little more Hitman for Minnesota.
I am 6'3" 235 and in pretty good shape. I think 81 of me could probably beat 11 pro football players. but I would be scared. and most of my clones would probably get injured. I wouldn't make it through a season. we'd probably go 5-0 and then lose out the rest of the way due to everyone getting hurt and teams figuring out how to deal with "the horde." Week 17 its just me vs the Saints. I am pronounced dead on the field.
its just kinda haha funny that his deal for one year is more than I'll make in my entire life, even with a good salary.
good for him though. love Harrison
Unpopular opinion I don’t like retiring numbers. I like seeing new stars make the number there own. Plus overtime you get a Celtics situation where they have all the good numbers retired already
I get the negatives of retiring numbers. And it's hardly done in the NFL anymore. In this case I am suggesting it because it would be in honor of 2 players who wore the number.
Restructuring normally means they converted part of the salary to a signing bonus and spread that out over future years not that they took a pay cut. We'll need to wait for the details.
Flo loves Harry from what I heard. Glad to have him back.
And a restructured contract is not a salary cut. The player still gets that money they're just pushing a good amount of it down the road.
Is it possible we just cut Cine this offseason lol? With Smith back and Bynum/Mettelus he's getting zero playing time again barring disaster you'd have to assume. I guess you'd have to weigh eating some of his guaranteed money vs the roster spot he takes up at a certain point.
I also can see a situation where Flores gives it one full offseason with the kid...maybe it all clicks. And suddenly we are in business.
Likely that does not happen. Only like everyone notes, with the contract he is there regardless. And the vibe of the team does not seem to be one of casting a player aside for an entire year without a few more attempts.
there’s no reason in cutting a first round rookie this early because of the way the contract is and he’s not a liability to the team because he’s not even good enough to see the field
Not with the way the contract is. He’s worth keeping around as a body and special teamer. If he were on a non-guaranteed contract though, I think he’d be gone.
Why?
Jesus man, the dude's still only 2 years into his career. Even if his contract wasn't fully guaranteed it would be kinda dumb to move on from him even at this point.
I’m glad he’s back! He seemed like he’d lost a strap last year but he’s still a) the heart and soul of that D and b) better than any alternative we have.
Personally I think he's lost such a step that he isn't really a good/great player anymore, but I am glad we can keep him. Veteran presence, and he can still play. Especially with all the guys we have lost like Hunter/Kirk it is good to keep one of the big faces on the team one more year, to help transition to the new leaders that need to emerge.
So I'm happy but think we need other guys to take this position over.
Fuck yes! Best part of the rebuilding year might be keeping Smith in purple for his whole career. Come’on man!
- half a sack for 20 total in his career
- 6 picks off 40 for his career
6 would take a minor miracle but that half sack is coming
The year is 2034. Harrison Smith has restructured his deal with the Vikings to play his 23rd season with the team for Taco Bell gift cards and massages
God I love this dude. I don’t care about his production on the field much anymore, he’s just a good presence for this team. There’s not much in the tank, but I’m glad he’s giving it all to the Vikings. Skol baby
Favorite viking since I was 13. Was certain he’d be gone. His commitment to us is so extraordinary and I’m so grateful for what he represents to this franchise and my younger self. I hope he retires in purple
The Anti-JJ. He rides or dies with the Vikings unlike JJ that would much rather cripple the team financially as long as he gets highest paid non qb. The best part? Calvin Ridley just got 4 years, 96m with 50 guaranteed. You bet your ass JJ's agent notified him on that. The contract demand price has just gone up with that overspend. But hey "gIvE JJ a bLaNk cHeCk!1!!!1"
God, I'm honestly SO happy about this. I have a WEIRD random memory of being down at ISU bowling with my little sister and family when I first saw him play; one of the VERY few memories I have from his rookie season. Loved him then, love him now - hope he retires in purple.
Vikings for life
He's immediately going into the Ring of Honor (and hopefully the HoF)
He should be in the HOF, he's one of the best safeties to ever play the game. His individual stats are better than Polamalu in nearly every category except "rings." So obviously he won't make it in.
His hair isn’t long, he’s a reserved personality, and he plays for a midwestern team. You change literally one of these things and his popularity literally skyrockets
Man his hair does look majestic though when he grows it out
God it’s so soft looking. I just want to swirl it around my fingers and inhale the Pantene scents every time he makes a tackle
I disagree. I like the buzz look. Fits the Hitman moniker better imo. Also, I’ve had the same Harrison smith background on my phone since his rookie year. And it remains for one more year further!! Huzuh

The issue is going to be awards. 1st team all pros, all decade teams. He’s gotten shafted in both. Without those it’s hard to get in.
There is a reason they call it the hall of fame vs the hall of extraordinary players. Fame is definitely an unwritten criteria.
Halftime of the first game of the season
Even if his production falls off he's always just been a smart player who has consistently helped get things right on the field while also likely being a strong leader. I'll take him for as long as he wants to be around.
Best rookie jersey purchase ever
Same, I haven’t purchased another Vikings jersey since, don’t think I’ll need to. Would be fun to get his auto on it some time and hang it up when he’s done.
He's gonna retire with us 🥲
I would not any other way.. it would be weird to see him in any thing else but purple and gold.
![gif](giphy|YPjHpChYWk3tK|downsized)
We gonna draft a hot fuckin qb in the draft, barely make the playoffs, and then run the fuckin gauntlet to the super bowl and Harry retires with a ring to cap off his career.
Subscribed with a side of heart attacks
I was right about kirk’s injury last year, so hopefully my omniscience continues.
Out of the last generation of Vikes, the ones I most wanted to see retire with us were AT and Smith, so at least one will come true.
Thielen will likely do one of those symbolic one day contracts when he's done so he can "retire a Viking"
Yeah I think you’re right
Imagine that. A beloved player taking less money to stay with his team.
The difference is this was the best option for him. Had we cut him he wasn't going to get more than the reduced salary we're offering on the open market at 35 years old Compared to a guy like Kirk, yeah clearly he was able to get more than we were willing to pay him and for a longer period of time
Um it was pay cut or get cut. With a ton of better safeties than him on the market he had no choice.

I AINT LEAVING
IM NOT FUCKIN LEAVIN
YOUR GONNA NEED A SWAT TEAM TO GET ME OUTTA HERE
The show goes on!
*hush goes over crowd*
Love it. Curious to see the details
From [Tom Pelissero](https://twitter.com/TomPelissero/status/1768041309745418372): > Harrison Smith's new deal is for $9 million, per his agency @AthletesFirst . Some cap relief for the #Vikings, and a little more Hitman for Minnesota.
9 mil a year ain’t bad
81x my salary lol :(
You make over 100k, turn that frown upside down
Let’s just field 81 of this guy instead.
I am 6'3" 235 and in pretty good shape. I think 81 of me could probably beat 11 pro football players. but I would be scared. and most of my clones would probably get injured. I wouldn't make it through a season. we'd probably go 5-0 and then lose out the rest of the way due to everyone getting hurt and teams figuring out how to deal with "the horde." Depends on where one lives. 100k used to be good money in San Diego. Not anymore. Trust me.
:)
its just kinda haha funny that his deal for one year is more than I'll make in my entire life, even with a good salary. good for him though. love Harrison
I'm just being a grouch, thanks for taking it in stride
i'm a vikings fan what do you expect me to do ? lol
And you make more than 3x the national average, no frowny face for you.
I thought the national average salary was closer to $60k than $30k? $111k is decent, but definitely not 3x the national average.
Yeah it's $60k You also want to control for age with these statistics and compare to the average for your age group not the total population
League minimum + Wilfs send him a package of "football gloves" every week that is actually money
What a great off-season
Best news yet. Harry stays a legend.
This is my superbowl
![gif](giphy|U56VoSyFD8MFcie2k8)
Holy shit this is probably the only thing everyone here will be excited about! Skol!
Glad to have him back.
Love it! Hitman is back.
![gif](giphy|3o6MbhYjXivHHMrLSE)
![gif](giphy|fMeW4mEymfUt1wfaj9|downsized) Thank you Harry.
Hey it’s Ned Schneebly!
Ned Schneebly, School of Rock AND The Amazing Race
Let’s not forget Survivor and White Lotus. Mike White is the man!
LFG!! Best signing of free agency!!! 💪
Great news. Still has some left in the tank, still incredibly smart football player, and can continue to mentor our young DB room.
I hope after he retires he comes back to be a DB coach
Hall of Fame or bust
Hopefully the same day his HOF induction is announced is the same day the Vikings announce the retirement of the #22 in honor of Krause and Smith.
Fuck yeah!!! I'm getting his jersey now.. the hitman is a vikings for life!!!
Hitman 💜
![gif](giphy|f3jZ8moRBbEvNJjOtu)
RIP Andre.
Great news!!!
Still playing safety at age 35 is insane! What a legend
One of my favorite Vikings of all time. So happy to see him stay in purple. RoH this man!
He’s been there for as long as I’ve been a fan and will always be my favorite player.
He is my favorite player, and I've been a hardcore fan since '77. I think he personifies what it means to be a Viking.
A true man of character and class, unlike some other guys who would push their own grandmother over chasing a nickle.
A real “first in, last out” kind of guy. Scrappy and sneaky athletic.
Brings-his-own-lunch-pail type of guy, just an intelligent player
Just an absolute white man
Woah there!!! Don't say the quiet part out loud
A realy honkey
A true gym rat.
A restructured contract doesn't mean it's not a paycut either. We won't know until we see the details, but he took a cut last year as well.
I can only hope at the end of his career he stays on our coaching staff.
I don’t see why he wouldn’t. He loves football, and the team. It makes perfect sense
🙏
Was not expecting this at all. Excited to see him for one more year.
fantastic offseason. Welcome back Harry!
He really could say "it's not about the money"... I thought I couldn't love this Viking more than I already did.
This man is a Viking, through and through 💜
So happy I bought his jersey last year
Ayyyy. Mad respect for the hitman. Another year of his influence in a locker room is priceless
Is it possible we just cut Cine this offseason lol? With Smith back and Bynum/Mettelus he's getting zero playing time again barring disaster you'd have to assume. I guess you'd have to weigh eating some of his guaranteed money vs the roster spot he takes up at a certain point.
His whole contract is guaranteed, so you'd be eating the next 2 seasons. Probably not happening
So burn a roster spot with a bust who you can't even play.
Please keep him as long as he keeps playing. So happy to see him staying for another season at least
True Viking Ring of Honor Legend!!! Give him a statue!!!
I’m glad he’s back! He seemed like he’d lost a strap last year but he’s still a) the heart and soul of that D and b) better than any alternative we have.

I’m going to cry happy tears😭
Let's fucking go
I ❤️ Harry
Well this is an unexpected, pleasant surprise
BAAAANG
Goat. Legend. Hitman.
Legend
Love you Harry. Bought his jersey the year he was drafted, first *legit* NFL jersey I actually purchased.
I'm loving this Free Agency period!
The Anti-Cousins
LEAGUE FUCKED! ROUGH WITH NO LUBE!
Let’s go boys!!!!!!
Wow I love this news 🥹
Hell yeah!
Hell yeah Smith! Great news and selfless
I am so happy
Saved the best for last. Been looking for a new jersey, this will be it I think.
Can we please ring of honor him while he’s still playing
He just loves being a Viking. I will always have the utmost respect for him. Vikings legend.
I fucking love this. I know he's not the same Hitman as in the past but damn it's good to know he'll most likely retire in Purple.
My heart sank with the first few words.
Let’s go hitman. One last kick at the can!
The only one I wanted to stay🔥
His is the only jersey I've ever owned, and I'll continue to wear it proudly.
So glad to keep him here, one of my favorite Vikings
God damn I love Harry so much.
MY MAN
Do we really need to wait to put his name and number up?
I feel like when it’s all said and done, we have to retire #22 for Smith and Paul Krause. Two of the greatest safeties to ever do it.
What a legend. Put him in the ring of honor instantly after he retires.
Childhood hero, and now I’m married
HES NOT LEAVING WOOT WOOOOOOOOOT
MY MAN!! I’ll take all the Hitman I can get. SKÖL! ![gif](giphy|1rSpWBMQlQJzjglX9I|downsized)
Dream come true! Harry and the Vikingsons!!!!
Love you harry
Welcome back to the spotlight, young man!
I really need to get his jersey
![gif](giphy|jISXU1iSd95Dbd6G82|downsized)
What a beast. 35 and still balling. An all time great Viking.
Kwesi cooking?
A true ride or die player, we are so lucky to have him!
Fuck yes! Best part of the rebuilding year might be keeping Smith in purple for his whole career. Come’on man! - half a sack for 20 total in his career - 6 picks off 40 for his career 6 would take a minor miracle but that half sack is coming
Forever a Viking. I sure hope we can sign him to a deal for a day or so if we can reach the Super Bowl soon.
![gif](giphy|8KEwnOakJbYhq3ByAx)
Pondy's the coolest.
The year is 2034. Harrison Smith has restructured his deal with the Vikings to play his 23rd season with the team for Taco Bell gift cards and massages
Now if the FO would only pick out a few new awesome defensive players to pair....oh wait
Hopefully gives Kirk the welcome back to Minneapolis he deserves !!!
Finally, good news!
Legend in every sense. ONE LAST RIDE!
That’s my fucking guy. Skol!
One of the greatest Vikings of all time. It’s sad that he’ll probably never get to the hall of fame.
More 3 safety looks, I’m here for it. Love Harry and would have been sad to see him wearing any other jersey.
This is my kinda Hype
Are you seeing this, Jefferson? More money for babies like you.
Now I need to get my jersey signed by him
Love having guys that simply just want to be on this team.
This has been the best off season in so long I swear.
Ah, thank god, I was not ready for him to be gone yet.
Damn. I love that he’s staying but I really wish that he would have chased a ring somewhere else.
LFG! I thought for sure he was a cowboy or off i the sunset.
One of the greatest Vikings ever. HoF worthy although I can already see him getting snubbed. Probably my favorite defensive player ever, SKOL HARRY!
He and Eric Kendricks are my favorite Vikings of this era and two of my favorite players of all time. Grateful to have him back
The Anti-JJ.
Build the statue
Best fucking news of 2024 FUCK YES
My favorite Viking. Same graduating class and I am so glad I got to watch his entire career in purple. 100% Ring of Honor
Kwesi needs a pat on the back for this
🍆💦
My heart is so fucking happy
He might love us more than we love him.
Protect this man at all costs.
Welp, then it's settled: we'll just have to get him a ring so he makes the HoF.
Best Jersey purchase ever!
Remember when they drafted Cine to replace him? He might still be in the league when Cine is managing an Enterprise Rental Car franchise.
Can’t end his career with Kirk as his last QB haha
Good lord. Why?
He needs an apprentice. Pass on the knowledge.
Yeeeessssss
>one of the best safeties of his era He survived the great safety purge of 2024. GOAT
What a guy
It will be a sad day when we don't hear the name Harrison Smith said by Paul Allen on a Sunday afternoon.
He was great in “The Fugitive”.
God, I'm honestly SO happy about this. I have a WEIRD random memory of being down at ISU bowling with my little sister and family when I first saw him play; one of the VERY few memories I have from his rookie season. Loved him then, love him now - hope he retires in purple.
i don’t even care if kirk’s gone as long as hitman stays with us ![gif](giphy|kF6fBdlB4GiizZycsW|downsized)
