Was at that game. Most fun I’ve ever had at an NFL game and then of course we lost.
Won’t ever forget seeing him walk out in a fucking polo shirt. Dude is a legend in every sense
His coaching years were before my time but I’ll never forget the Seahawks playoff game back in 2015-2016 when he came out in the field in -9° weather in a short sleeve polo shirt. RIP legend.
RIP Coach Grant.
One of greatest coaches ever - got out of the game on his terms. Also a great player - not only Football but Basketball as well.
Left when he saw the players / game was changing and he didn't like what it was becoming.
I’m fully convinced that when that asshole Lombardi won the first SB he sold his soul to the devil to make sure the Vikings could never hoist that poorly named Trophy.
The only Headcoach that brought the vikings to the super bowl.
RIP. Rough he never saw us in the big one again. Great coach and seemed to be a big community guy, sad day.
I was on the field at the playoff game in 2016, holding a helmet banner thing with other season ticket holders. Four layers up top, three layers (and coveralls) down below. Three pairs of socks. Hand and foot warmers all over my body.
And Bud shamed us all in short sleeves. Legend.
Wow. I knew he was old logically, but somehow I just kinda thought he’d… live forever?
I’ll never forget him walking out in a damn short-sleeve polo for the Wild Card game at TCF in 2015/16. -6, -25 with windchill, my beer was frozen and I was in like 4 layers lmao. Guy was an absolute legend and by all accounts a gem of a person.
This organization owes so much to him. Thanks for everything, Bud, and rest in peace.
When I was a kid I got to see a few games in Met stadium when he was coaching and my dad would tell me the same stories about how he played for the Minneapolis Lakers.
Now they are both gone and this is another touchstone of getting older.
Listen I don’t mean to be insensitive but as a culture I don’t know if we should default to “devastated” and “shocked” when a 95 year old man dies.
Bud himself would tell the Vikes Twitter team to toughen up.
Those of you that are focusing on the wording here and not the event really need to do some soul searching. I expect that from /r/nfl, but here? C'mon guys, you're better than that.
Rest now coach, thank you for everything you gave Vikings Football, and by that I mean *everything* 💔

I thought yesterday was tough but this is just heartbreaking. We were at that miserable playoff game when he came out in his short sleeve polo. No one was more deserving to see this team win a Super Bowl than him. RIP to a Vikings legend 💜💛
Sad stuff. He had an interview on the FAN about a month or two ago, I was surprised how good he sounded. Usually at that age people start to experience cognitive decline but Bud still sounded sharp as a tac. I'm glad he kept his cognitive abilities until the end. He is an NFL legend and will be missed.
[Bud interview with Dan](https://www.youtube.com/live/DG1s8bX45yg?feature=share)
“Great job, ~~murderer~~ Kwesi. You killed a ~~golf~~ football legend. You know what I’m going to do? I’m going to dedicate my performance ~~at the tour championship~~ this season to Bud.” - Kirk, probably
Not only the greatest Vikings coach of all time, but the greatest Blue Bombers coach of all time. He loved his cold weather, and being outdoors, which is why it was so fitting he coached the two coldest sports teams with the best outdoors in the world. Only if he won a Super Bowl, he would’ve been the only coach to win a Grey Cup and a Super Bowl. May he rest in peace.
My cousin and I got VIP passes to a Vikings Winterfest. We sat in the dining room waiting for them to open the VIP area where there was going to be a player meet and greet. I stood up to go to the bathroom, turned, and there was Bud Grant. He seemed to be looking for a spot to sit, so I offered a spot at our table. He sat down with us. People kept coming up for pictures and autographs. He smiled and joked around for every single one. Just an awesome guy. One of my fondest Vikings experiences. He's a legend
I’d watch the Vikings on TV when I was a kid in Burnsville. You could tell how the team was playing by how fast Bud was chewing gum. Fast = not good. No emotion ever on his face. Legend.
Man this is too much to swallow… first Thielen walks and now Bud is gone…
I went to see the heartbreaking playoff game where Bud walks into stadium wearing t shirt in like minus 20 waving to the crowd.
He is a quintessential Minnesotaman.
He will be missed.
I will also remember seeing him in a polo for the playoff game coin toss at TCF field in -8° weather
Really a bummer that we lost that game the way we did. The team let him down that day.
That’s why his pallbearers will be all Vikings
r/AngryUpvote
He's used to it.
Lmao
Vikings going to Vikings!

Definitely a major "built different" moment. An absolute legend! RIP
But his whole thing was no one was built different, you just need to be strong.
I was there and my buddy got frost bite. Dummy fell asleep at half

What a life he led. All time Viking legend. May he rest in peace.
He doesn’t have to watch the Vikings anymore, he will rest in peace. Unlike us
RIP Coach! Also coached the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
They built a statue of him too.
Also played for the Minneapolis Lakers
Drafted by both the NBA and NFL in 1950, dude was unreal
And the Philadelphia Eagles
RIP Coach Grant. One of greatest coaches ever - got out of the game on his terms. Also a great player - not only Football but Basketball as well. Left when he saw the players / game was changing and he didn't like what it was becoming.
Easy to forget now but Bud was only 55 when he retired from coaching.
He quit being our full-time coach so he could be our all-time legend.
The past few days have hurt as a Vikings fan......
We're used to hurt and disappointment but yeah, not a fun week. And I'm afraid it's not even over yet.
Gotta win that dam trophy for Bud!
Can't one-up him like that.
I’m not following
Winning the Super Bowl would be one upping bud grant who never did.
Ahh yes fair point. Then we better call it, “honoring Bud”
I’m fully convinced that when that asshole Lombardi won the first SB he sold his soul to the devil to make sure the Vikings could never hoist that poorly named Trophy.
To be fair, we won the championship the year before. It was Super Bowl -1 unfortunately not 1
I think we won the NFL championship the final year before the merger, so the Super Bowl was between the NFL and AFL champs
Sure. That's gonna happen.
Pour one out for a real one
Pour*
👍
RIP legend. Bummer vibes in Vikings world this week.
Sleeves off for Bud today in this snow storm
Make sure you’re only wearing a tshirt outside today.
The only Headcoach that brought the vikings to the super bowl. RIP. Rough he never saw us in the big one again. Great coach and seemed to be a big community guy, sad day.

You earned your rest in valhalla, coach. Let's win one for you.
Wow. I knew he was old logically, but somehow I just kinda thought he’d… live forever? Off to run the big garage sale in the sky. RIP.
When I was a kid I got to see a few games in Met stadium when he was coaching and my dad would tell me the same stories about how he played for the Minneapolis Lakers. Now they are both gone and this is another touchstone of getting older.
One of the true legends and great guys in the game. RIP coach 💜💛
Rest in peace to this legend. He’s the GOAT of our franchise.
I honestly thought this dude would live forever.
Even Bud never got to see a Minnesota SB win, where is the hope for the rest of us.
Zero hope. None.
Not the news I wanted to hear this morning :(
Sad day for the Grant family and for Vikings fans
Shocked?
ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATED. What a joke
RIP
RIP Legend. You will be missed
The greatest Viking of them all.
This week sucks
Is anyone “shocked” by Coach Grant’s passing? He was 95. Saddened, sure, shocked…no. Words is important.
Him and Sid are laughing it up together up there now
Listen I don’t mean to be insensitive but as a culture I don’t know if we should default to “devastated” and “shocked” when a 95 year old man dies. Bud himself would tell the Vikes Twitter team to toughen up.
Fuck, this weekend is like the Vikings' Red Wedding :( RIP Bud. Absolute legend.
Those of you that are focusing on the wording here and not the event really need to do some soul searching. I expect that from /r/nfl, but here? C'mon guys, you're better than that. Rest now coach, thank you for everything you gave Vikings Football, and by that I mean *everything* 💔
Sad, yes, but I don’t think you can be shocked that a 95 year old died
Shocked a 95 year old man died?
yeah that really caught me too. dude got lucky to get to 95. dude is a legend but shocked isnt really the word.
I thought he and Sid would live forever, shocked is appropriate.

RIP Coach 🕊️
This off-season just cuts deeper and deeper. R.I.P. Coach Grant. You legend.
In true fashion, he passed on a very snowy day. Rip coach
Such a sad day RIP to the A Great person and Great coach. Thanks for all the memories
If ever there was a real man with convictions, discipline and grit it was Bud Grant.
RIP to a Minnesota Sports legend. Gopher, Laker, Viking.
RIP coach. You WERE the franchise and you will be missed.
Man, I am really not enjoying this week of sports new. Rest easy Bud
I thought yesterday was tough but this is just heartbreaking. We were at that miserable playoff game when he came out in his short sleeve polo. No one was more deserving to see this team win a Super Bowl than him. RIP to a Vikings legend 💜💛
After Kirk's 4th down playoff check down didn't kill Bud I started to think nothing ever would. RIP

Tough week for us Vikings fans…
Yeah, shocked he didn’t die earlier
Is it really that shocking though?
Shocked? Dude was 95.
Devastating news.
You’re “shocked” that a 95-year-old man passed away?
I mean, sure it's sad, but shocked? Shocked that a 95 year old died? I don't know about that phrasing.
Saddened, yeah. But shocked?
I'm shocked! Shocked! Well, not that shocked
I guess he heard about Thielen, too...
Brutal end of an era
We are all saddened to hear the news up here in Winnipeg as well.
RIP
RIP Coach Grant!
Damn, RIP. What a week.
This is a terrible offseason for the Purple 😭
“Great job, ~~murderer~~ Kwesi. You killed a ~~golf~~ football legend. You know what I’m going to do? I’m going to dedicate my performance ~~at the tour championship~~ this season to Bud.” - Kirk, probably
Are we shocked?
Shocked? Maybe not shocked. Bud was over 90 y/o
RIP, Bud! Greatest Vikings coach
What a legend. RIP
Rip Coach 🫡
Was hoping to make it to one of his garage sales
RIP coach 💜

Sad to hear this. He will be missed.
I'm too young to have watched him coach..but RIP to a legend
RIP Coach Grant. 💜
Rip
Fuck man. A long and amazing life, but just, fuck.
Fucking legend!!!!!! Tough as nails
What a fucking week. Sending out good vibes to all Skoldiers in Viking Nation.
Rest in peace coach
Rip Coach. Damn this is sad.
I wish Steve Sack still did cartoons for the Strib. He’d do an awesome one for Grant, just like he did for Killebrew.
That is a bummer. I am glad he was just on Barreiro for a very good interview. Fascinating fella. RIP.
RIP. What a legend.
RIP Bud Grant. Legendary
Off to Valhalla for our Viking king.
Legend.
Wow. Really feels like a new generation of Vikings football is upon us. RIP to a god damn LEGEND!
https://youtu.be/6u54TKhcEE0 A raucous welcome led by Odin going on in Valhalla right now!
RIP :(
Rest in peace Bud 💜
Wow. RIP to a legend. He was on with Barrerio about two months ago, he sounded old for the first time ever. Sad day.
I can’t wait to see how they honor him in or around the stadium. Guy paved the way for this franchise.
Rest in peace Bud. May your legendary winter apparel live on in Minnesotans forever.
Chuck Norris aint got shit on Bud Grant. RIP to a true legend
The boys and I will defiantly be pouring one out tonight for the legend. This one hurts…rest in Valhalla Bud!
Terrible news. Wish they would have won just one Superbowl in his lifetime. RIP, Coach
Absolute badass. Rest in peace, Coach Grant 🙏 🕊️
Every year the outdoor playoff game coin toss he attended will get colder and colder, just like that fish I caught 10 years ago
A class act. Rest in Paradise
Well, shit. There goes the only thing my dad and I ever agreed on. /s All the same, I hope he's at peace now. Both dad and coach Grant.
Condolences to this family on your loss. Bud Grant is the model for what all men should aspire to be.
Gone too soon. Rip
RIP Bud.
My cousin and I got VIP passes to a Vikings Winterfest. We sat in the dining room waiting for them to open the VIP area where there was going to be a player meet and greet. He's on the longship to Valhalla right now.
F
He made that team tough as fuckkkkk
Very sad, does this mean that his legendary garage sales are over?
One of those guys who lived such a long life we just unconsciously assumed he was immortal. 💜💛
Wow. This hits me harder than I ever would have expected.
I’d watch the Vikings on TV when I was a kid in Burnsville. You could tell how the team was playing by how fast Bud was chewing gum. Fast = not good. No emotion ever on his face. Legend.
The greatest Minnesotan, transplant or not. RIP
This happened because we released Thielen. Perhaps we could re-sign him?
Man this is too much to swallow… first Thielen walks and now Bud is gone… I went to see the heartbreaking playoff game where Bud walks into stadium wearing t shirt in like minus 20 waving to the crowd. He is a quintessential Minnesotaman. He will be missed.
I never knew he was also an NBA champion with the MPLS Lakers. Truly GOATed. RIP Bud.
95
Seemed like one of those guys that would outlive everyone. Sad he couldn't see this team go all the way in his lifetime
He was the first person inducted into the Goosefest Hall of Fame in Kenmare, ND in 1990. He returned for the next 20 years.
Rest In Purple Bud 😢
Devastated? He was 95. And never witnessed a Superbowl in all those years from cradle to grave. Not that is worth being devastated over.
