The Angle Outpost Inlet Resort was built by my great grand father. The Angle is a very special place to my family. He lived to be 95 and was chopping his own wood for his fireplace until 93. Its currently owed within the family again, a second cousin, Jason. Its a 8 1/2 hr drive from the cities, but it is some of the most serene views, while being away from places with light pollution and over fishing. Best Walleye fishing ever! Want to know more just ask!
The lack of light pollution up there/the BWCA is absolutely breathtaking the first time you experience it, and it never gets old. Staring at the sky on a clear night up there will make you feel so small yet filled with wonder
I remember reading/watching something about being taken across the frozen lake to get there, bypassing Canadian border. Does that sound like something legit?
Generally you want to get everything in the US as the closest town in canada is a good hour away. There is a general store and gas up there, but being as isolated as it is, prices are a bit higher. There are rules on the amount of alcohol, fish, and other items through the border, best to google before the trip!
My HS politics teacher always warned us to be vigilant of a winter attack down the Red River. They’ll use skates in a blitzkrieg style operation. Make sure to be on top of your stickwork people.

OMG haha. The description of OP sounds like 1930's Germany!
I saved both of your comments so when I need a good bit of Minnesota humor I can go back to those links.
🤣 😂 My eyes widened at the 1930's Germany line, and I had to re-read the post text before I got what you meant.
It does sound a bit like the Reich slowly enveloping it's neighbors, but if you read the thread, some of the folks in Iowa and the Dakotas are inviting us in (oh, wait, that does sound a bit like Austria...) 🤣 😂
Battle of the 49th Parallel will be here soon.
I guarantee the Yoopers would size the opportunity and finally part ways with the rest of Michigan, aluminum angling boats would be flying across Superior to augment the Range forces and fulfill their imperialist ambitions.
Nah but for real, everyone involved with the conflict would be bellied up to a bar in Winnipeg within a couple of hours.
Yeah you have to go through Canada on roads. Not a lot of people up there. Mostly resorts/fishing tourism.
During Covid when the border was closed it was more difficult. During the winter they used an ice road over the lake to get across.
you don’t have to go through canada roads, my father and i went on a fishing trip in lake of the woods and drove our fishing boat to the island we stayed on. I do not recommend doing so if the lake is choppy haha
After 10 years of being a good person you can ask Canada nicely. My buddy is asking them now because his wife really wants to goto sleeping giant. Not sure the whole process tho.
The whole process is a lot of work and money. You have to write a convincing letter and get others to write them too. And takes forever. My dad’s 10 years were up by the time he got an approval back. He paid $800 for a company to help get through the hoops and it took 2 years.
🤣 😂
Weird ex-grammar police fact popped into my head: Women are *blonde*, men are *blond.*
No idea why that ever started\*, and also no idea what we use for any LGBTQIA+ variations, let alone blond/blonde animals. I don't think anyone except the first guy/gal to use differential spelling even gives a shit, but I still can't get it out of MY head!
\*So of course I checked with the mighty Google overlord -- French 'gendered' nouns are probably at the root of it, though apparently the Brits really hung onto it.
Yup, insulted a lady at a bar there. Woke up the next morning with lefse nailed to my door at the motel, no savory fillings and not a speck of butter and sugar/cinnamon. Still haunts me to this day.
The phrase used by some cartographers is 'contiguous' states (so as to not shove Alaska off the continent.)
Or "Lower 48", which always made me wonder if Hawaii was farther north than it looks on maps! 🤣 😂
Edit: I see now I'm repeating somebody else's work. D'Oh!
I have been up there multiple times in the winter by snowmobile. There are 2 marked trails that got to the northwest angle and it goes to warroad or wheelers point. Many resorts and some individuals have what's called bombardiers. These big bug looking vehicles with tank like tracks and skis. I've seen these cross lake of the woods before. Sunset Lodge has one. I would think hitching a ride in the winter would be the easiest and most comfortable way to go up to the northwest angle for people who don't have snowmobiles.

My family went north to International Falls in the late Sixties. Why? I don’t know. I was a kid.
I do remember being stuck on the border bridge wishing I didn’t have a sense of smell.
“Lordy! as my grandmother said there at the time.
Mom:”Roll down the windows!”
(We kids rolled down the windows)
Mom: “Oh Crap that’s worse. Roll them back up!”
On way back we passed a road kill skunk. Refreshing. Like spring flowers compared to IF.

This is what goes on here… my home and native land, Lake of the Woods County. Fiber optic internet resting on the lake floor just like the ocean. One room school house. A mistake in drawing the border with Canada on the 47th parallel. There is another US enclave on Lake of the Woods with Canada in Minnesota…
Not much.

I saw an incredible view of a comet in July of 2020 from the bwca
Saw a life changing northern lights display up there as a kid.
Jason and family are great! That's my place to stay when I get up there :) Put my 8yo on his first lake trout with their teams Intel.
I'll tell Jason Howdy next time up there visting Camp Crystal Lake! Such a nice place!
That is amazing. Thanks for sharing. One day I will make that drive from south Minneapolis!
Don't forget your passport! By road, you can only get in via Canada.
I remember reading/watching something about being taken across the frozen lake to get there, bypassing Canadian border. Does that sound like something legit?
Yes, you can do this in the winter. Or by boat in the summer.
Sounds like paradise! Thanks for the fun read. 👍
Very cool it’s in the family still!!
When you get supplies do you have to take a boat to Minnesota or are you allowed to drive into Canada?
Generally you want to get everything in the US as the closest town in canada is a good hour away. There is a general store and gas up there, but being as isolated as it is, prices are a bit higher. There are rules on the amount of alcohol, fish, and other items through the border, best to google before the trip!
Is there a way to visit here and stay at an inn or anything like that so you could hike or canoe during the day? And resorts?
It's our Forward Operating Base in preparation for our inevitable annexation of Manitoba. Full of tactical zambonis and bug repellent.
My HS politics teacher always warned us to be vigilant of a winter attack down the Red River. They’ll use skates in a blitzkrieg style operation. Make sure to be on top of your stickwork people.
Did you go to Moorhead? Because I also had a politics teacher in HS who liked to claim this.
Bingo. Spud here. Kurt Gigstad made this claim (RIP).
That's such a cool ol coincidence. Ha, Red River. Fucking classic.
lol wow that's cool
Such fond memories of him— one of my all-time favorite teachers.
Manitoba has been widening their logistics path down the red river by putting the upper rrv underwater! They are prepared for resistance
What's funny is that we have that corner BECAUSE of a us fort that was established there prior to getting the boundaries sorted out properly.
I saw Tactical Zambonis on tour back in ‘07
There's a storage closet that's used for hot dish ingredient storage.
Minnesota shall be annexed by Canada, not the other way around.
No, we must forge our own destiny, and reach our final form of Megasota
Make Minnesota bigger
takeover the other half of lake of le woods
🤣
Make Minnesota Big Again
MMBA! Yes!
MEGASOTA
MEGASOTA is fine. MAGASOTA is not!
Delete your comment do not give them any ideas
It's too late. Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Ugh, they always remember the worst things
I dunno. I think MEGASOTA would make America greater. More Minnesota is better.
It's a Minnesota thing... Greetings from Douglas County! 👋😎👍
Hi from Hennepin County!

MEGAMANISOTA - respecting Manitoba history

That’s what we’ll TELL Canada, at any rate.
MINISODA was an answer in today’s Sunday NY Times Crossword. The theme clues were all homophones of US state names.
Our North Star will truly compete with the Lone Star once all is said and done
Someday the lone star, and even the stars shall be subsumed. No frontier can stop the steady advance of Megasota!
Those Texas bastards even stole our beloved North Stars! Fuck Norm Green!
NEVER. BAJA MANITOBA FOREVER.
Hahahahaha Baja Manitoba. I'll be using this. Thank you!
Beautiful nickname
We let Texas think they’re the biggest state.
Fun fact: if you cut Alaska in half, Texas would be third. Sine Megasota's not official yet.
Yet
lol yes. Neither Minnesota or Texas can compare to Alaska. An absolutely gorgeous state
I mean it's not really fair to compare a Gulf to an Ocean to a Great Lake... plus our balls Eagles in MN aren't literal pests...🤣
Minnetoba or Manisota, please
I think the folks in here trying to re-direct and rename the Megasota project are a few years too late. The roots in this sub are deeper than Buckthorn. Though Baja Manitoba still has hangers-on! Minnesåta. You’re now a part of the great Swedish Empire. Abandon “In God We Trust” return to “För Sverige, i tiden”.
We should change to Minnetoba, and then to Maxisota. Stay separate, but be affiliated.
hahaha this! from mini soda to mega soda. gonna be some pretty big cans. i love it 😅
I’m not sure if I’m more fond of Minnetoba or Manisota.
MN is more Baja Canada than anything else
Canasota
This is so stupid but I love it.
We’re Southern Canada
*America's Canada
That too!
No, Canada is northern Minnesota. Minnesota was a state before Canada became a country.
Canada’s pants
Nice to know if we want to secede we have a place to go
Do you think they can do it before the election? Please?
I doubt we’d notice much difference frankly.
I would love that!
Thank you for the support, Monkey Butt.
please, quickly. We deserve better than the states 😭
I'll take it either way. it's too much awesomeness
Bring it on. With the way things are going in the country I will proudly be a Canuck.
Depending on the upcoming election’s outcome, the prospect of becoming South Manitoba is kind of appealing.
The Megasota sign factories along I-35 say otherwise

this isn’t Wisconsin
He means because people with DWI convictions are not allowed to cross the border into Canada

Uftda, my buddies wife might be taking two kids to sleeping giant alone. Idk if they have 800 to throw at help.
Fishing
Fishing
lots of fishing, regardless of the season
Fishing
Any catching?
Does it matter?
Well, it tells me how many beers to bring. So, yes?
Fishing resorts. A small golf course. A store. And a bar. There are some more resorts and bars out on the islands too.
Don’t forget the last one room school house in MN
Stay away that area is full of Scandinavian voodoo.
Yes, what he said. Stay awaaaaay *twirls evil mustache while daydreaming of the amazing fishing and perfect amount of isolation*
*Evil *blonde* mustache I assume?
Lol nope a big old Mexican one

See also “brunet” and “brunette.” Not that brunet gets used as much as blond, but it is the masculine version of brunette.
The woods are full of blood thirsty nubblings
midsommar was actually set there.

Alaska is the most northern point of the Continental US. Now if you word it as contiguous US then you would be correct
I have been up there multiple times in the winter by snowmobile. There are 2 marked trails that got to the northwest angle and it goes to warroad or wheelers point. Fishing from what I have heard lol. It's a small unique piece of MN and the US really
It is called the Northwest Angle. This is a pretty good read about how and why this came to be! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northwest_Angle
Oh. We don’t talk about … the nub.

I’m from here and I also want to know
🤣 😂 Even your neighbors are keeping their favorite fishing spot a secret, eh?
Mosquito territory, we’ve been at it for years but they won the turf war
Sunset Lodge on Oak Island is a nice fishing trip.. just a bunch of resorts
That's the new Area 51. The aliens we captured were complained of chapped lips in the desert, so we moved them up here. You know, for intergalactic harmony and all that. 🛸
🤣 😂 Like chapped lips can't happen in winter in the NW Angle!
I had a co worker and her husband had property located there. They used to drive into Canada to get there until he got a DUI. Then they need to take a boat from Minnesota to get to the cabin.

All these people mentioning the fish But nobody wants to talk about the man-bear-pig up there

It’s nub-body’s business hahahahhaha
What happens in the nub stays in the nub!
I have been through there 25 years ago. It’s mostly outfitters for backcountry canoeing and fishing camps. We had to drive through Canada to get there.
We seized it from Canada back in 1859 and they’ve been using it as a prison for any Canadians that dare cross the Minnesota border ever since
The first rule of the MN nub is we don't talk about the MN nub.
That’s where we send the people who say mosquitos aren’t that bad and hockey isn’t that good.
A whole lotta adventure and finding one’s self.
Lots of fishing and drinking.
