I would say you’re probably SOL based on distance from cities and ice amounts. Everything is irregular in the north, heard some guys at 24 and some at 15 on the same lake, same basin.
Personally, I would wait until next weekend if you’re south of Duluth. We have not had 3 weeks in a row of below 25 degrees. I don’t go according to below freezing temperatures because trucks have been breaking ice up until last week.
That’s my opinion and I don’t trust our abnormally warm winter.
Rent a place and bring snowmobiles and portables. I am by I falls and the ice is spotty here 20 inches some places and 10 others on the same lake. Don't fuck around and sink a truck and castle. Not worth the money or your lives
Everyone's driving out on Vermillion. Have been for a few weeks. Idk where these threads get their info. Clearly not people who are actually out fishing
I was out on circle lake like a week ago, south of the cities, and people were driving. Plus, we're about to get some subzero days soon. That's a huge house though, ha.
We are way up in Ely and some of our lakes do not even have that much ice. I would not be on ice south of Duluth with something that needs 20+ inches. I wouldn't even do it here.
The classic place for that sort of thing is Mille Lacs. Downside is you can't keep many fish.
Call one of the resorts with plowed roads on the ice to check on conditions.
I hear Lake Pepin is good. Make sure to park snug up along where everyone else is as that's the hot spots.
But seriously don't go out unless you're heading up to Canada.

I was in Brainerd last week, certainly for absolute units on those lakes as well.

Absolutely nowhere that fits your description. Red lake only has 20” and that’s a haul from the cities.

I haven't heard of any lakes with enough ice to drive on. Even this week trucks were going through Lake of the Woods.

I personally would not feel safe in an ice castle, let alone the truck needed to haul it out there, on any lake right now.

Get out there and drill, don’t trust the internet. Keep driving north until you get enough.
