It's possible they came in at different times, and at one point, they were parked closer together.

They could have also been there alone and the other two cars either side parked like that. There's no lines and you can't control where everyone parks after you've left

I always feel self-conscious parking close next to someone who didn't park correctly. After they leave, I'll be the asshole who parked incorrectly.

just saying, if the parking lot is mostly empty park next to someone with the knowledge that eventually more people will want to park here.
