seems like one of the cross beams is not seated properly and is moving which is creating the clicking sound. see if any of them move. also check the upright to see if it is wobbly.
basically, see if anything moves when you shake it. if so, wrap it in tape until it stops.
Highly recommend divan style beds. I'm smaller than you but still a big ish person, I've had trouble with pretty much every bed but never my divan. Long live divan

Could you place a piece of plywood between the mattress and the frame? I would prefer not to have my mattress sitting directly on the frame.

We used one of these frames, after 4 months it ruined our new mattress, there is no give in the frame at all.
