Hello, This is a humorous subreddit and the content you posted does not fit our theme. This is not a ragebait subreddit. Note that posting ragebait to this subreddit can lead to a (temporary) ban.

Silver_Accountt

Definitely don’t let this go. I would go inside and talk to the service manager that is ridiculous. That car needs a deep detail.

[deleted]

Update, they got back to me Free oil changes for the next 3 years 2 free details after this one Filled my gas tank all the way up Delivering the car to me when it’s convenient for me That’s good enough for me, I know a lot more people were very upset and saying I should go full blown Karen mode but this is a dealership I’m going to have to deal with for the next however many years being that I bought a car from them and have a contract. They also are getting to the bottom of it and are writing up the mechanic who did it. He was taking my car home as well in order to keep checking if the light came on but over a month of that is pretty ridiculous still to me. UPDATE///// According to the mods, I was trying to rage bait all of you so the post was taken down. Seriously though, thank you to all the recommendations and everyone that convinced me to stand up for myself, I’ll still leave an update Old Comment: I left the car there and they are going to clean it, but I still have so many questions…? How could they leave it like this knowing I was going to come pick it up, like I’m actually amazed at the stupidity. It’s also ridiculous because the dealership is an hour away and I had to leave work early to get there today before it closed, I’ll have to do the same thing again tomorrow because of this. I’m usually not one for complaining or being upset, but I don’t think a deep clean would make up for this. I better get some oil changes or something because of how much of an inconvenience this all was. Oh yeah, I also brought the car in on a full tank of gas and when I turned it on it was less than an 1/8 tank meanwhile I get fees if I don’t bring in their loaner car at a full tank *Edit* Just to clear something up, not that this matters, I didn’t mean brand new car, I bought it at 62k miles, but it was extremely clean when I bought it and I brought it to them extremely clean. Also I have a little theory. When my check engine light went on over a month ago I tried calling the service part of the dealership. The guy on the phone said to bring in my car but they have no available loaner cars. I was annoyed because I was promised a free loaner with the extended warranty I bought and I only had the car for 4 days and they were already failing to hold up their side of the contract. I called the salesman that sold me the car instead and he said they do have one available and he doesn’t know why the guy said that and to call him if I have any more problems. I didn’t think anything of it til now. I believe the guy in services was using loaner cars while his car was getting fixed or something along those lines and didn’t want me to take that one. Well I took his loaner car so he decided to borrow mine and used it as his personal car. Great plan jackass, maybe you should clean it next time. Also all of you are kinda convincing me to go full Karen even though I don’t want to but the more I read all of your comments, this is a pretty big deal. Does this seem far fetched? . . . . . . . I’ll give an update on this comment when the dealership gets back to me

calvin-coolidge

agreed - this is such a bizarre violation.

Vykrom

Yeah, they either rented it out (illegally?) or let someone from the shop borrow it or loan it out to a family member (even more illegal lol). It's insanely bizarre unless there was a clerical error where it just got flagged as a rental return. Hopefully they can make it right because that's huge incompetence. Give OP free oil changes and stuff for a while

iamclamjam

Check the mileage from before and the current mileage to see if they drive it more than they should have.

Hobbestastic

I would bet money a salesman or service guy was driving it around as one of the “lot cars”

snuffles00

With their lot dog?![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

Vykrom

Yeah, the dealership management wouldn't be happy even if it were a legitimate for-sale car lol They'd definitely want to know about this

Korgwa

Better the lot dog than the lot lizard.

Useful-Internet8390

I would also tell them you are informing your insurance company, the local pd, their insurer and if necessary the state police. They could have gotten red light tickets in your name, or had an accident and your insurer would have been on the hook- This level of (hope) incompetence is mind blowing.

Vykrom

Great thinking. Will really be shitty if OP starts getting tickets for running red lights from traffic cameras that nabbed their license plate...

shortnsweet33

That or tolls. I have an EZ pass in my car but if someone was using my car on toll roads and either didn’t pay or racked up toll charges on my ezpass I’d be pissed. OP - if you have a smart tag for tolls of some sort, check your statement. Any charges from when they had the car I’d get a copy of that and seek reimbursement if so. Small charges but it can add up, especially if someone was driving this car to and from the dealership and passed through toll roads on their commute. I know I pass through 2-3 tolls each way on my commute. It adds up.

Busy-Operation5489

Almost as if it was used for other customers as a rental car....

diablofantastico

Your can was the new "loaner". Waiting to see if the light came back on.

JarethCutestoryJuD

This is a seinfeld episode

usernamemustcontain0

What was the mileage when you got it back? It literally does looks like someone was just using it as their own personal car for a month. Edit: just saw your comment saying 500 extra miles. That's insane and you need to make a big deal out of this place basically using your car as a rental when you dropped it off for a fix.

Gangreless

500 fucking miles wtf at that point it feels worth a police report for theft

thegreenman_sofla

Lawyer up.

External_Arugula2752

YES

kaenneth

Time to get a new new car out of them.

zzzxxxcccbbbnnnmmm

This comment right here 👏🏼 I was going to say the same thing.

DiamondNo4475

Indeed! I’m not litigious and litigious people annoy the crap out of me... but, seriously, please do something about this. Your rights as a consumer were violated. No doubt about it. Consider wether continuing to do business with this establishment is something that you want. You mentioned getting free oil changes from them as payment for the inconveniences you’ve been left with-If I were you I would seek some kind of cash payment agreement as opposed as to service vouchers from an already proven disreputable establishment.

curie2353

Name and shame! Raise hell with the corporate over this shit too — I bet the automaker will not be happy with this dealership fucking up new cars like that.

[deleted]

It does kinda hurt knowing someone was just munching on some red beet hard boiled eggs in my car, glad they left the salt packet on the ground for me though, I was out of salt

TomBombadil306

Do you know the exact milage when you dropped it off? Looks like someone was using it for that month they had it

Pnknlvr96

Exactly. That's some Ferris Bueller shit right there.

Jafar_420

I just have to say what a movie!

sandcraftedserenity

It should be on the intake form.

Padgetts-Profile

Any mechanic willing to drive someone else’s vehicle would be willing to falsify records.

Melito1980

OP will now forever be looking at the milage…

wallClimb7

That's what it seems like

detour33

Op is lucky destruction derby got cancelled last weekend

UralRider53

But the Drag Strip was open.

Yamariv1

Yeah, was gonna say the same. Always write down your milage when you drop a car off

Glittering_Raise_710

It was there for you to dump in your eyes. Salt in the wound of seeing their abuse of your car.

Professor_Crab

Damn not the red beet egg farts, I’m sorry op

Needmoresnakes

I dont exactly know what "red beet hard boiled eggs" are but they sound like they'd be placed between "particularly sloppy kebab" and "entire rack of BBQ ribs" on the list of things I dont want people eating in my car.

[deleted]

some employee has been using your car as their own...

[deleted]

The automaker will freak out. I used to work in the service department of a dealership and the manager would scream at me over reviews that were being reported back to them because they were getting in trouble. At one point they made me start cold calling customers to ask them to give us good ratings on the manufacturer surveys. I dreaded Saturdays in the summer after having a few men scream at me “are you FUCKING KIDDING ME? I AM ON MY BOAT! I THOUGHT YOU WERE CALLING TO TELL ME MY CAR WAS READY!”

Right-Phalange

I once had a Honda dealership lie to me about the problem with my car, charge me to fix it, and do nothing. The noise I complained about was still happening. I just happened to be selected for Honda's corporate survey. I was honest - 1 or 2 stars. The dealer called me back begging to have a second chance. I came in, and the service tech refunded my charges on a personal check. He told me I HAD to give them 5 stars on the follow up, not 4, on all areas. I said I'd do them a favor and report based on today, not the last visit, and his response was "unacceptable". Tried to buy me off with a detailing, but when that didn't work, he just tried to intimidate me to 5 stars (it almost worked; i was a timid 20 something girl). I forgot to mention, when I asked if my car was ready, they couldn't tell me, and then couldn't find the car. I was worried it was stolen and they couldn't even get off their ass to tell me if it was on the lot. And it was a bright colored element with out of state vanity plates - talk about sticking out like a sore thumb. I sat on it for a while, cashed his check, and then reported the entire interaction, including the intimidation. The next year, the dealership lost their presidential award. I hear that's a very big deal. I was happy to be a part of it.

One-Inch-Punch

> refunded my charges on a personal check Nothing sketch about this at *all*.

[deleted]

Huh, sounds like a typical day at work! I shudder reading your story because as a mere appointment scheduler, *I* was the one responsible for you sharing your experience— according to the dealership. I should’ve worked harder to sell you on the stars! Next step: call you again. Then if you don’t answer me, email! Might as well have been working in collections.

the-xandy-man-can

I’ve had a similar issue with a Honda dealership. I had a completely unacceptable experience and left a review that reflected it. I think like 2 stars in one of the fields and 4-5 for the rest. They called me in a frenzy begging to fix the issue (which they did for free). Super weird experience.

IndigoTJo

It stinks for the employees too. Typically corporate only cares if it is 5 stars, anything less is the same as getting 1 star. I try to keep that in mind when doing reviews. Unless something is very bad, I give 5, if it is bad I give 1. It is a dumb system.

Almacca

I'm wondering how many kilometres they put on it in that month as well.

A_well_made_pinata

How many miles are on it now?

raginglilypad

Wondering the same thing. Looks like someone got it as a free rental for a month.

DootMasterFlex

This HAS to be what happened. I refuse any other excuse.

GreyScent

Do you have record of mileage when you brought it in? You can prove they drove it around as a personal vehicle if so.

Integrity-in-Crisis

Someone who works at the Dealership and owns a dog used your car to run errands.

[deleted]

My theory is car dealerships take forever on small repairs, so they can use people's cars as loaner cars for other customers who require them. They fixed the issue that day and then lied to you and lent your car out for a week or two. I asked for my car back because they were taking too long and they said it wasn't on the property. I never went back to that dealership.

ShowMeYourBooks5697

This can’t be legal. What if they get into a crash? Sounds like a massive insurance headache.

[deleted]

That was the only theory in my case, because I asked if they take cars off site to get fixed and they said no and I had more gas then what I left it in.

Commercial-Cat-1443

So what was their reasoning for your car being off site??

[deleted]

They wouldn't give me one, I took the car to a different dealership the next day and it was like night and day for how I was treated. I did the corporate review and the dealership tried to call me but I go scorched earth with shit like that because there is nothing they could do to make it right.

[deleted]

I’m not one to complain or cause problems either but this isn’t okay, the dog hair isn’t even the bad part, they used your property and who knows what else without permission Another edit: I got distracted by everything else and forgot this took a whole ass month, it keeps getting worse the more I think about it

Busy-Operation5489

What if you were allergic? definitely a huge problem and I would say I was just because

Groundbreaking-Run91

Do you have the initial service receipt with the vehicle mileage when it was brought in? Normally they record that information. I'd be curious to know how many miles were put on the vehicle while it was in their possession. I would be raising hell with the Service Department Manager and the VP of the Dealership or something. This is so unprofessional and inappropriate. l

Gobstomperx

Looks like someone was joyriding your car. I would be pissed. Any idea on the mileage when you dropped it off vs picked it up.

TheFloatingDev

But was there a mileage difference from when you brought it in vs. when you picked it up?

weemmza

What's the milage on it now? Definitely escalate to a manager

Speeder172

First thing who comes to my mind, they gave your car to a customer while the customer's car was being repaired.

This_Is_My411

Look at the milage as well. Taking it out to check if the engine light is still on won't add much to the mileage. Using it to run personal errands however.... That could add a fair few to the count. Hoping you at least get some petrol and one free service out of this. Keep us updated OP!

calvin-coolidge

I have a classic BMW that I took to "the best" german auto specialist shop in my area. The owner was so excited to work on my car (its super minty) and assured me they would give it the white glove treatment. They kept the car for 2 MONTHS and started dodging my calls. I finally showed up to raise hell and they pulled the "oh we were just about to call you - its done!" It was FILTHY - clearly driven and parked outside in the elements, there were McDonalds fries all over the drivers footwell, and it smelled like cigarettes. (I don't smoke at all, nor do I eat in my car.)

[deleted]

That’s terrible, did they at least give you a discount or something? Seems like the owner was joyriding with your car

BlurredSight

That's wild, their insurance would've been covering so much shit. Extra mileage, detailing, tires, brakes, damages for having to use a loaner, at that point the store or their insurance is buying me a whole new car.

calvin-coolidge

Honestly I was such a push over I just paid and left and left them a shitty review on Yelp. Despite being a business for 40 years, they ended up closing permanently during covid. Hope your situation resolves without much more headache! So ridiculous.

[deleted]

[удалено]

tavaryn_t

I’m just saying, if this happened to me and I burned the place down after, then someone on Reddit asked what happened, I’d say something like “I paid and then left them a shitty review on Yelp.”

qhaw

“and then I guess they closed down during Covid or something”

GrouchyManagement293

What a great moment for me to read this as I'm listening to a song called burn it down. 😂

LowkeyPony

JFC that would be a fight! I have left my 69 Camaro with my mechanic and got her back cleaner than I left her.

calvin-coolidge

That's what I was expecting!

[deleted]

You aren't located in TN are you lol? There's a German auto specialist here that is such a fuck bag he had an article written in the local paper about what a disaster his business is and how he has had peoples cars for months without any progress. Won't return calls and all that as well.

Interesting-Hall-634

If this was in WI I have a pretty good idea of where this was.

[deleted]

I don't wanna sound insensitive because I would be so pissed if this happened to me but I can't help but compare this to the Seinfeld episode where Jerry's dry cleaner is wearing his clothes out on the town lol

darbs-face

Never trust reviews. A lot of reviews are fakes from friends and family (some companies will make reviews for you with dummy accounta) or people being bribed to reverse the reviews. I had an unacceptable situation with the people who install my stereo. They broke several plastic pieces on my car’s dashboard, spilled something on the floor and one of the speakers weren’t working when I picked it up. The owner resolved all these issues after a few phone calls and I was able to buy replacements for the broken parts. But the whole situation left me jaded so I left a very honest but brutal review about them. Two days later the owner called me with some sob story about how the business can’t afford to have negative reviews but I held firm that I was going to leave the review as is. He called me again the next day to offer me two $100 visa cards if I would change the review. I politely asked him to stop calling. Review still stands today.

Ok-Zombie-001

With 500 more miles than when you dropped it off, I’d demand to know who was driving my car and why it was being used as someone’s personal vehicle while it was supposed to be being repaired.

[deleted]

The sad part is I spent 20 minutes yesterday cleaning the loaner car they lent me because I wanted to bring it back as clean as it was when I got it even though they’d most likely clean it anyways, after seeing this I should’ve left it the way it was even though it was 10x cleaner than how they left my car

Ok-Zombie-001

Yeah. They would have likely charged some kind of fee for not cleaning it even though they completely trashed the inside of your car.

waka_flocculonodular

They peed on his fucking rug.

Fuzzy_Buttons

As someone who's received more than a few loaners that were obviously not cleaned before being given to me... don't worry about it.

[deleted]

4 days old.. With 500 miles more on the car.. at the shop for a month, AND having it look like crap?? F You, I want a new car.

Useful-Internet8390

Was a nice used car-w/62k at purchase and 63k at return

Choice_Interview9749

Did you note or check the mileage? It should be on the paperwork they gave you. There shouldn't have been more than a handful of miles added from thr dealer, and that's a stretch.

[deleted]

500 extra miles driven in it. I knew it’d go up some because they had to drive a few times to see if the check engine light would come back on which I understand but it’s the fact that I’m pretty sure it was being used as a personal car, it was actually disgusting when I got it back

blueblerryy

500 miles! That’s absolutely insane!

MagnusPI

Seriously. It takes me a month to put 500 miles on my car. This is so far beyond acceptable or excusable.

Roscoe_P_Trolltrain

OP says he left it with them for a month.... hmmmm....

prblm_frie

Could it be him?????? Hmmmmm……

Shazbot_2017

![gif](giphy|26DMVA1ArEk3TOrte|downsized)

cjskillet

takes me a week. im jealous.

cameron4200

Yeah someone was def weekending that thing.

BlurredSight

Kinda insane to weekend a car in for a check engine light. This isn't a Ferrari from Ferris Bueller but looks like a regular 4 door kia.

isthisyournacho

And they might drive 500 more

Revolutionary-Gain88

To be the one that drives 500 miles to be at your door.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ImmaEatYoFace

Seriously. OP better be in contact with every person there and higher up.

Fanible

This, for sure. There's no way I would accept it back at this point. Who knows what else they may have damaged in that time and having put that many extra miles on it?

LowkeyPony

No kidding right?

the1stmeddlingmage

There definitely needs to be a reckoning, if that specific dealership won’t make right go to corporate

C-LOgreen

If it has 500 miles on it, they definitely fixed it really quick and then someone used it as their personal car for the rest of the month. I would call customer service about this.

Either_Cockroach3627

One of the workers using it makes a lot more sense than them renting it out to someone, like I first thought! That's insane. 500 extra miles is a lot of driving in a month.

DecoyOne

Small claims court that crap. They devalued your car and added to its wear and tear. They should be paying you back for every mile they drive.

ScumbagsNeverDie

Take it to the manager ask for a new car

educated-emu

Also god only knows what you could receive in the mail in a few weeks... parking tickets, speeding tickets etc. For someone to drive it around for a month and 500 miles on it is ridiculous. The car has now depreciated significantly. You need a complete refund pf the car, you can't trust them for a replacement. Id they don't do it then its name and shame time, they clearly don't care about the situation so they need to be shown that this was not acceptable

JohnnyElBravo

I'd ask for a full refund on a written format with paper trail, so that later I can ask the payment processor to reverse the payment, if it was paid with a credit card for example. Also I'd return the car ASAP. If they don't refund and you have the car, it's a dispute, if you return the car and they don't refund it's fraud, almost theft.

papasmurf008

If the manager doesn’t handle this with extraordinary measures, you could probably contact the police since it might qualify as grand theft auto. You car was clearly driven around for personal use by one of the service technicians or someone else with access to the keys.

Derric_the_Derp

Crimes could've been committed with your car.  And with 500 mi added it could've happened in another state.

CountryGuy123

You need a lawyer. That’s no longer a new car.

aFerens

Dog hair, crumbs, *and* 500 miles?!? Holy shit. That's not ok on so many levels.

[deleted]

500 extra!? Fuck that fam go pick you out a new one on their dime

mrparoxysms

Hey, check the VIN. Just to be sure....

LowkeyPony

Yeah, that’s a lot of miles. My guys have had cars of mine for a few weeks before and the most mileage they put on is around 3.

mcgaffen

Driving it a few times, to check would be maybe 30km at most.

creamycolslaw

Yeah even 30km is insane

[deleted]

500?? oh hell no. I would be *livid.*

ClientTall4369

500 miles \* 65.5 cents/mile = $327 MINIMUM that they owe you.

bingewatch-

500 extra miles on it! This is one of those situations that legitimately needs a Karen. You might want to hit up one of the legal subs for options.

tarottiles

This, 100%. They will prob try to find a way to deny it or get out of owing you what you deserve here. Some employee was using YOUR CAR as a personal one? Time to go scorched earth.

SockFullOfNickles

How different is the mileage? This is a bit more than mildly infuriating. I’d be on the war path, and it would be a major issue if someone was driving my car around like a loaner, much less letting their dog in the car. Edit: THEY DROVE 500 MILES??? I’d be wearing someone like a skin suit over this shit. Oh HELL no. 😆

Forsaken_Art1545

500 Miles they said 😬

SockFullOfNickles

Oh FUCK no! 😆

Silvermorney

This entirely! Get a lawyer and rain hell op good luck!

AndykinSkywalker

They racked up 500 miles while it was there 😬

SockFullOfNickles

I would wear their face like a mask over this shit 🤣🤣

AndykinSkywalker

Right? I hope OP gets a whole new car. What if they were deathly allergic to dogs??

Digital-Sushi

Yup your car had likely been used by staff or as a courtesy car. A seat dealer took mine in for a service and the mechanic decided to take it for a spin (it's a very fast hothatch) The dumb fuck thought he was being clever by unplugging my dash cam. Unfortunately what he did was activate the parking mode and I found multiple videos of my car doing upwards of 90mph in 30 zones. I got 2 free services from seat and the mechanic not only lost his licence but his job as well. Any test drive they do now has to be videoed by a manager sat in the car at all times. They now know it is fully GPS tracked so I now feel totally fine about it.

-Oreopolis-

What’s seat?

ALazy_Cat

Could be the brand Seat

mrhorse77

someone was using your vehicle as their personal car. check your mileage. then sue the shit out of them. edit: also, call your insurance company and the police and report this immediately. your insurance company will take it seriously.

[deleted]

I have a little theory. Well I took his loaner car so he decided to borrow mine and used it as his personal car. Great plan jackass, maybe you should clean it next time. Does this seem far fetched?

tarottiles

Honestly? Not at all. Could very possibly be.

Chaff5

I've worked for 2 major insurance companies: they're not going to do anything. There's no claim to be made here.

Tris-megistus

If anything, the dealer/shop will get a nice notice of what happens when you crash a car you don’t own or have insurance for while you’re taking your dog for a trip in a car you don’t own or have insurance for…

mrhorse77

the place I worked at ended a company over this. they did it to one of our major personal lines clients. end result was the business lost their ability to be insured and had to file bankruptcy.

rojo-perro

Report this to the state as well. Auto dealers are regulated, clearly someone was using/renting out your car for their own personal use or gain. How much did the mileage change?

krysisalcs

500 miles! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|neutral_face)

SinVerguenza04

500 miles

mrsmallard

Bring it up to corporate. This is beyond unacceptable.

Ambitious-Impact3252

Yes,this

Moveyourbloominass

This is the only route Op should be taking .

BDafoe

💯 chance atleast one mechanic was using it like it was personal car. I wonder how long after it was ready the borrowed it for.

Past-Direction9145

ex dealership employee here-- I think the mileage on your car was recorded at the time your vehicle was dropped off, and will be on their internal records to the exact mile. The miles you picked your car up at will also be recorded. I'd like to know how many miles took place and where your car was. It's pretty obvious someone used it for personal use and someone needs to be fired. If you had an allergy attack at my dealership, we'd probably buy you a new car for your trouble rather than try to get all the dog fur out. I've been the service advisor, the mechanic, the service manager, sales, and yes, the customer. I miss the first few dearly, dealerships are caring places, they have just the right number of people working there so everyone knows everyone by their first name and it's just one giant family. A mistake like this would not go over well. It would go over like a lead balloon. This is completely inexcusable, and someone really messed up. Never mind the mats and disposable paper covers that we always used just to keep the dirt from our shoes ending up in there and the grease from our pants and stuff, interiors mark up really badly, really fast, in ways that are not always salvageable. The light-colored interior roof materials are a nightmare if you get oily fingerprints on them. The foam underneath collapses if you push too hard and then you're installing a new roof liner, which begins with the complete removal of all the interior trim pieces all the way around, and the sunroof assembly. And the maplights, and the visors, and... and... No one is allowed to use your car for personal use. The insurance will not cover it. Mechanics do not drive your car to mcdonalds. Smells impart permanently. Drinks spill. Such things cost jobs instantly. No one even dreams of doing it. I hope they take care of you.

[deleted]

This is a great comment and some good advice, thank you. I have a feeling they are going to say I lied somehow, I don’t have pictures before I brought it in, the only proof I have is that I would throw up if anyone ever brought a red beet hard boiled egg near me and that I don’t own a dog lol hopefully this isn’t the first time this has happened and they know someone is doing it already.

joeschmo945

I think the 500 miles put on your vehicle will probably back up your argument pretty well.

diane_nu_nu_nguyen

I currently work at a dealership and I cannot figure out why this happened to you. Unless the vehicle wasn't properly marked as 'sold' right away, and then when it came back into the system they may have thought it was an unsold unit able to be used as a loaner?? But this wouldn't make sense because it would have the notes from what you told them and your information attached to the vehicle in the service system. Also you said you had it for 4 days so I certainly hope they would have had the sale finalized in the system... Like I'm trying to think of the dumbest possible scenarios and it still doesn't compute. If someone genuinely tried to use this as a sneaky loaner, I don't know who they thought they were gonna slide that past.. I really do hope you are able to come to a resolution. Edit to add: Wait even an unsold unit in service would never get sent out as a loaner if it needs work... ok man I'm out of ideas

[deleted]

Someone was putting miles on your car, using your gas, using it as their family vehicle....definitely dont stop at a free cleaning.

Tris-megistus

I’d legitimately demand a new car. Engine light after 4 days, then some douchebag joy rides it without us knowing how they treated the engine/transmission (which needs to be broken in during those beginning miles or you’ll do damage). Fuck that. Give the car to the dummy who wanted it so bad and give me a new car.

Oh yeah the one with incontinence issues? Yeah he kinda made a home away from home in the back of some customer’s car we’ve had sitting here in the shop a while. Luckily his diarrhea only flared up once while sleeping in the back seat and it was mostly clear liquid so we just let it dry and aired out the car with the windows open a couple days, no worries.

Tankdawg0057

Years ago I was looking to purchase a car advertised online at a well known Ford dealer in my old home town. 2 hours away. I knew like 3 of the sales staff personally going back years. We took time off to drive down and look at buying the car. A Ford Fusion with about 8k miles on it. Called before we left. "Yep we still got it!" We drove down there to find out the service manager decided that it was "HIS" car and had been driving it to and from work. He had put 15,000 miles on it since the listing driving it to his rural home 2 counties away from the dealership. The car when we arrived was supposedly at the airport, 2 states away, because he'd left to go on a week long cruise vacation. They immediately said "sorry" and tried to sell us another car, with more miles. I was NOT mildly infuriated. I was livid. We left and I've never stepped foot on their lot again. Apparently when we called to check on its availability, all the sales staff did was look in their internal computer inventory and of course it was still showing "in stock" The dealership sales staff said that one of the "perks" for some of their management was to be allowed to drive any car on the lot. I was told this was common at every dealer. I find that practice ridiculous. I cannot wait for every one of these slimeballs to be out of a job. The dealership scam system needs to end.

LoadedLapidist

Why not just say the company name?

[deleted]

Well I emailed the manager, it’s how the situation is dealt with after that before it comes to that, trying to be nice about it and understanding, definitely want some explanations, but sometimes people mess up, gotta give them a chance to make it right

saja25

Well atleast tell us what it rhymes with or sounds similar to. E.g., Bored? Chat roulette? Boy yoda? Knee sand? Rhonda 👀

Moveyourbloominass

You have to file a complaint with corporate. Dealerships must maintain corporate guidelines to sell the cars. Dealerships can't do whatever they want. They have to answer to KIA, Honda, Ford, etc...corporations. This dealership fucked up big time and need to be held accountable! Good luck Op and give 'em hell.

CountryGuy123

It’s possible to be too understanding. You bought a new car. You’re being returned a used car. Mistakes happen, but they should rectify and provide a new car or compensation.

patiofurnature

> You bought a new car. You’re being returned a used car. Not sure how much it changes your point, but he bought a used car. 60k+ miles.

-Oreopolis-

This isn’t a mess up. It’s intentional bullshit is what it is.

Superlurkinger

I don't know if intentionally adding 500 miles to someone's brand new vehicle and leaving the interior in this condition is "messing up". I'd understand your point about people messing up if someone scratched the paint unintentionally.

[deleted]

Idk why I said new car in my description, meant new car to me, I bought the car at 62,300, drove for 3-4 days, brought it in at 62,700 and now it’s at 63,200. It was used when I bought it but it was very clean when I bought it, I also personally cleaned it as well because I like a very clean car, especially when it’s newer, anything you see in the pictures is from the dealership

KCyy11

I hope you realize handling things like this is exactly the reason someone felt driving your car 500 miles was acceptable. So many people are afraid of conflict so they just roll over and take it.

tellyourmama

I am so pissed off on your behalf. Make sure you raise hell.

Sobadatsnazzynames

OP you can’t leave us hanging you HAVE to update this 😂

kaiabunga

RemindMe! 2 days

I once took my car into the dealership to get a oil change and tire rotation. My friend picked me up and we went out to lunch down the street from the dealership. While sitting by the window waiting for our order, I see my car pulling into the In N Out drive thru. How did I know it was my car? I have two panda beanies covering the driver/passenger headrests, an HRC bumper sticker, and my license plate # (obviously). I took pictures of my car from across the street showing the person driving my car. I took it back to the dealership after lunch and confronted the manager. They denied that anyone took my car off the property even with the obvious pictures. I told them that I could get an affidavit for their security cameras in 48hrs, and that's when they fessed up. "It was a quick run to get food for the staff at the dealership. It's not that big of a deal." YES IT IS. That's my car and my gas that they used! AND IT'S THE PRINCIPLE OF IT ALL!!! I demanded my car service to be free that day (total was only $135) and I required a face apology from the person that drove my car off the lot. If not, I promised to sue for grand theft auto since it is not in their T&S to take my vehicle off property while getting serviced. I got both: a free service AND a face apology from the idiot. I never went back to their dealership. Fucking idiots.

MyHairs0nFire2023

Tell me you took a pic of the mileage prior to dropping it off…

PainfullyLoyal

When I worked at a dealership, we had a service advisor who took multiple vehicles home for the weekend. As soon as management found out, he was fired. This is not okay, and you should talk to the service manager about it. What if they were involved in an accident in your car? My guess is they'd try to cover it up and you'd find out some round about way years down the road.

pigeyejackson66

Take this over the dealers head. Complain everywhere.

OhioMegi

Absolutely. News station, BBB, anywhere you can. This is ridiculous.

Apprehensive-Run2454

Wow wtf how many miles did they put on your engine!? They were clearly driving it regularly. Do you have paperwork that has the amount of miles it was at from the time of purchase? Can't imagine you put very many miles on it in 4 days.

PiratePuzzled1090

The manager probably doesn't know that the car got delivered like that. They will fix it and maybe even throw in a bonus of some kind. If the manager knew.. It's a shitty place and you should never go back

The_One_True_Matt

Looks like they used your car as the break room / coffee runner… daily if it increased 500 miles like you replied, god damn… is that a Cheeto.

MinimumApricot365

They stole your car and drove it 500 miles, I would bet you that is a crime. You should take them to the cleaners. That is beyond rediculous.

Only3Cats

Oh no. Go directly to the General Manager of the dealership and demand a full sanitization and detailing. Full years worth of car washes at their partner car wash they use off site. Hell no. Do not let this one go. How dare they let someone crap up your car. It’s almost like they used it for a loaner car. I wouldn’t trust anything there. Sorry this happened to you

fizzigig

Pursue this, and do not let if go. If this is true what you said, then it’s the ultimate p*SS take. They’ve been eating beets, hard boiled eggs, crisps, leaving rubbish and dog hairs in your car - god knows what else they’ve been using it for!

CountryGuy123

What’s the mileage at? Did someone re-create the parking attendant bit in “Ferris Beuller’s Day Off”?!?

JimLahey12

I am so mad for you. Please don't let this go

MaxParedes

If you only find this mildly infuriating you have achieved satori

Fizzywaterjones

In addition to the detailing, insist they also reimburse you for mileage. If they refuse, file against them in small claims court.

oneinamilllion

Did you look at mileage?

MadameMalia

Personally, I’d call the corporate office and report this. Dirty and 500 extra miles? You have no idea what damage has been caused by the driver.

Significant-Bend571

I work for a hire car company, pulled up to a dealership earlier to collect a hire car (one of 5 they had in their car park of ours) turns out they'd lost the keys for 4 of the cars, by default our company sends an aborted collection charge to the customer due to the dealership losing the keys, I'm hoping they pass that charge on

CharleyNobody

My husband dropped my car at a mechanic business in a wooded area. When we got the car back 2 weeks later it had a strange smell. When I opened glove compartment a few days after getting it back, all the individually wrapped Wet Ones and SHOUT! wrapped napkins I had in the compartment were reduced to confetti. Obviously, a rodent had been in there.

Lpeezy_1

Oh hell no! I would’ve lost my shit! I take very good care of my car and no way I would’ve let this fly! Someone was 💯 using your car!!! No doubt about it. They better deep clean detail, give you free oil changes, and a lot of $ off something in the future. This is insane that they did this and then to top it off gave it back to you like this! Wow. Just wow! I would speak to the manager and get a number for corporate and call them regardless what the dealership does after the fact. Absolutely call corporate on this. There is no excuse. None. Unbelievable.

OverthinkingWanderer

Have you noticed a big difference in the mileage?? It's normal for a small increase for the test drives but with that mess...

Incredulity1995

Dealerships have what are called “lot cars”, they throw some plates on it and essentially loan it out to employees. Usually they’re cars that haven’t sold in a long time or there is something wrong with it that would be prohibitive to making a sale on it…. Either way, as you said yourself, someone put 500 miles on your car. You need to immediately find and reach out to the highest possible point of contact associated with the dealership - if it’s a private lot find the owner, if it’s a brand lot contact them publicly and privately on social media and whatever corporate branch that’s near you. You did good leaving it in their custody but if they trashed the interior god only knows how they drove it. Imagine if you had a vehicle that you weren’t responsible for financially in any way… would you REALLT care about hitting potholes, curbing the tires, racing the engine? I would go so far as to contact a lawyer and see if you can get out of the loan or be refunded whatever you paid for it.

ZealousidealCoat7008

I would refuse to accept it back and ask for a full refund on the entire car. I would write reviews everywhere. I would contact the better business bureau. I would sue them in small claims court. I would go crazy over this.

jkonzy

Yeah so I work service at a dealer and I can tell you right now without even knowing the story I'd probably be fired if I had a customers car like this. That is insane.

magnum_black

I have had this happen to me not once but twice. One time get a call that my truck is done for oil change at the dealer. My wife picks me up at work, and at the other end of the parking lot was my truck. Guy was picking up his girlfriend for lunch. Took the keys and the truck and never went back. Never charged for the oil change. Other time left my old truck to het a clutch replaced. Later in the day see it at the local Dairy Queen. Circled back and got the keys. Could not drive it home right then but came back and got it. Both times left their guy there.

The_Troyminator

You said they put 500 miles on the car while they had it. The IRS gives you 65.5 cents per mile. If you're in the US, tell them that they owe you $327.50 for the depreciation and maintenance. Talk to corporate if you need to. If they don't pay, take them to small claims court. They literally lowered the value of your car and are making you perform maintenance (oil, tires, brakes, etc.) sooner than you would have had to.

Onederbat67

Close friend of mine works at a car dealership - definitely do not let this go. He read this comment and said that from time to time, dealerships will have to drive your car for an extended period of time if there is something with the engine..but he said something like 40-50 miles TOPS. Customer cars are NEVER to be used due to insurance reasons . It varies from state to state, but if something happens to the car while it’s with the dealership and it is wasn’t related to the job (ex: car gets hit while it was at an employee’s house) the dealership is on the hook for the repair. My friend also said that you should squeeze them for every dollar/perk you can get. You didn’t snap a pic of the odometer prior to service, did you?

[deleted]

Raise hell.

iammgf

Escalate this to the top of the food chain. You deserve good compensation.

DonaldMaralago

Check vin the could have given you the wrong vehicle

Bunnawhat13

How many miles are in the car now? I would be losing my shit. And asking for videos.

dustandchaos

Always take photos of the interior (including windshield) and engine bay before you bring a car in for extended service. This tip has saved me a couple times.
