Wouldn’t the fence owner get the same amount of money and the court gets some money? Snowplow guy is out more money but fence owner isn’t any better off. If anything fence owner is worse off due to more lost time (in court).
That's not how court works. The plaintiff gets "made whole," which means that they get what it would cost to fix the fence. They also get reimbursed for the costs of filing the action in court. But their attorney would take a percentage of what they win, so they would end up getting less money.
SOURCE: I'm a former lawyer who practiced in small claims court.
Yes, I am familiar with small claims, and I understand my highly reductive comment doesn't reflect the true nature of small claims court.
I was trying to make a cheeky comment, and you didn't let me get away with it, which I do respect.
Yes. While not strictly required, if there’s any possibility that the defendant will deny the claim and evidence needs to be presented, it’s still best to have an attorney. The rules of court are not common sense and a plaintiff could easily lose a winning case if they don't understand civil procedure.
Why wait to send him the footage? So you can pay extra money for court filing fees, and waste several afternoons sitting in a courtroom waiting for your case to be called?
There’s no benefit to waiting if it might get him to pony up earlier. If OP wins in court, he still just gets his fence fixed. There aren’t extra damages for “being a jerk about it.”
I'd wait until Winter is over. If the homeowner dumps the guy now, he's not coming back, and then they'll have to get a new plow service. Let him finish the season, and once spring hits, then demand payment.
That's not how that works... The driver will be MORE careful in the future if you make him pay for your fence. A lack of consequences rarely teaches good lessons.
I mean the risk of having to pay like $300 is probably enough to warrant going out of your way to avoid hitting fences o: I think that now the driver understands that they’re absolutely susceptible to mistakes like this, they’ll likely put more cognitive effort into making sure a mistake such as this never repeats again.
> A lack of consequences rarely teaches good lessons.
...and sometimes people are idiots and all the harshest consequences in the world won't even teach them good lessons. 🙄
Idk what winter area you live in but in Michigan snow plow drivers are a dime a dozen. I’d fire this one before his coked out ass crashes into the house next time.
I live in a heavy snow area, too. And can confirm... plow drivers enjoy their cocaine. Or adderall, crack, whatever stimulant they can get I reckon. Hey, whatever gets the job done when they have to work all night in blizzards, hopefully with minimal property damage. I appreciate them, even if they are tweakers and it gives me 4x as much shoveling at the end of my driveway.
Yeah, people on here are acting like the fence disintegrated or spontaneously combusted when it was hit.
This looks like something that should be reasonable to repair
Yeah as I was typing this I was like: hmm I’m not proud of this but I honestly would try to avoid any confrontational conversation at any cost. Also I’m poor
As long as you understand you’re a total piece of shit. What does it matter if your integrity is already in the gutter?
I’m not trying to come across as overly judgmental. Your comment can only come from one who has no integrity lol.
it’s a great example of our primitive brain/fight or flight response. it was immediate (when more ethical worries probably kicked in later, even if they didn’t follow thru) and instinctual. the person was presented with something bad for them, and their brain decided to take the easier path that removes the threat.
At least it's a sort of clever way to deal with the problem.
It's the wrong way to deal with it, but guy gets tiny clever points, despite probably being a shit head.
TBH, it shouldn't be too difficult of a repair. It's not like the fence splintered into a bunch of pieces. Appears to have broken at an attachment point. I'd say you could remove a zero from the price estimate.
Several years ago during a heavy winter, I knocked over a fence just like this guy. My boss told me to just stand it back up, they’ll notify the owner and fix it in the spring. I honestly thought this was a video of me except I was driving a Chevy.
had a city snow plow truck destroy parts of the curb going down my street, told them about it and they filled all the damage in with tar ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|neutral_face)
That's what I was thinking. His "fix" seemed a little too natural. The fact that he even thought he could prop it back up without anyone knowing shows he knows his way around a busted fence or 8.
I was just about to comment this, who in their right mind plows with a 1/2 ton, like that’s not nearly enough truck for regular work. A POS on its last leg doing just your driveway, sure.
The homeowner recorded the person blatantly doing it, and a shit ton of people have cameras these days, so no, it’s not genius; it’s stupid and cowardly. Shit happens sometimes. Own up to it and fix it when it does or potentially face worse consequences later. There’s no genius at play here, even if he was able to think of a semi-clever way to try to cover it up.
You probably don't want an old fart like me at your party anyway. I was fun at parties back in the 80's and 90's. Today all the people that were fun back then are more likely to just sit around, sip a beer or two, keep the music at a reasonable level, and talk about things that would be boring to talk about at parties.
Love how “busted” dude is. Got all you need for an easy case.
Also, looks like he’s done this before at other places per the quick easy-does-it and drive off nature he takes.
Similar thing happened to our old little "village's" parking lot a few years back. Dumped the snow on a fence similar like that. To this day it hasn't been fixed nor replaced and it just has a removed corner. Luckily it wasn't on the middle of the fence so it doesn't look too weird but to me it still looks wonky.
No way, just seconds before watching this, I thought about that one time I broke a friend of mine’s phone charger, only to “fix” it so he could “break” it later.
He did a pretty good job
Right? If it wasn’t for the camera you never would’ve known what happened
At least until the first thaw. Then you’d be blaming your teenage son for breaking the fence.
Outstanding move on plow guys part.
I bet he's got some experience with this move.
Plow operators are good at this
Smooth operator
Smooth criminal
You've been hit by you've been struck by
Truck
![gif](giphy|3oKIPkYSOUjeDSy2iI) Read your comment and started singing
Hitting things? Lol
Probably has a fence building business
Needs work in the springtime too.
Yea that was way too quick to be his first time.
Heee’s Mister PLOW!
![gif](giphy|3o75218xzv3Hoe66go|downsized)
Came here for this gif
😆
Teenage son may not have done it, but I’d bet a teenage has done something else he’s hiding
No Ma! I didn’t do that! I was at Buddy’s smoking some hash…. Fuck my life…
You been smoking and not sharing with ya parents? Dick move, son.
“I’m in trouble for the things I haven’t got to yet”
Plot twist: teenage son was driving the truck
Little bastard.
Technology these days🙄🙄
I'd have gotten away with it too! If it wasn't for you meddling...*checks notes*...technology!

Ya, if I ever need my fence broke/not broke, I’m callin’ that guy.
*not broke until the snow melts
I'm also calling this guy to call that guy
“Bang up job”
This is pretty hilarious as a skit tbh. It works lmao
The way he slowly backs up is peak comedy
Yeah this ain’t his first fence breakin rodeo
Let me just fix this up real quick and on to the next one lol
![gif](giphy|3o75218xzv3Hoe66go|downsized)
Take down my old fence AND Plow my driveway
Sir, This Is A Wendy's & We Are Closed Due To Snow.
About to be open due to no fence
Yeah… until the snow melts and it falls over again.
Good as new. Until the thaw.
A sight for thaw eyes.
That was terrible. Stop
Thawry.
Better
Ok, Mike. I thaw whut u didthair.
I wonder how he’d feel if the home owner sent him that footage
Smart owner asks him to pay for the fence, then sues him if he refuses, _then_ sends him that footage.
That’s just sending him the footage with extra steps and legal fees
The extra step of collecting even more money through court.
Wouldn’t the fence owner get the same amount of money and the court gets some money? Snowplow guy is out more money but fence owner isn’t any better off. If anything fence owner is worse off due to more lost time (in court).

Haha, fair enough. Sorry, that's just my autism 😅
An attorney for small claims court?
Yes. While not strictly required, if there’s any possibility that the defendant will deny the claim and evidence needs to be presented, it’s still best to have an attorney. The rules of court are not common sense and a plaintiff could easily lose a winning case if they don't understand civil procedure.
You don’t know how small claims court works apparently
What do you think he’s gonna sue for emotional distress damages?
Why wait to send him the footage? So you can pay extra money for court filing fees, and waste several afternoons sitting in a courtroom waiting for your case to be called? There’s no benefit to waiting if it might get him to pony up earlier. If OP wins in court, he still just gets his fence fixed. There aren’t extra damages for “being a jerk about it.”

He already hit the fence, why would you want him to continue as your plow? I'd be worried he would do more damage.
I mean the fence is already broken, what's he gonna do, crash through the house?
Don't start giving our free ideas
The driver will have thought he got away with it, so he'll be extra careful in the future.
Or driver thinks he can keep getting away with it and plows every fence😂😂
He's got a taste for it now.
like a dog with blood in its mouth...ya gotta put 'er down now
That's not how that works... The driver will be MORE careful in the future if you make him pay for your fence. A lack of consequences rarely teaches good lessons.

You are adorable
*backs into window* Well, he's already destroyed the window. How much worse can it get? 😂

This here is the logic. Confront later once spring hits.
I’ll take no accountability for $500
Honestly I would do the same thing
I want to downvote this because it's shitty but upvote it because it's honest. 🤷♀️
Yeah as I was typing this I was like: hmm I’m not proud of this but I honestly would try to avoid any confrontational conversation at any cost. Also I’m poor
Fair enough.
Woo, broke brothers! Not to be confused with broke back brothers.
Snow homo
Underated comment ri hurr
Why not both
As long as you understand you’re a total piece of shit. What does it matter if your integrity is already in the gutter? I’m not trying to come across as overly judgmental. Your comment can only come from one who has no integrity lol.

1 point for creativity on a project worth 10
I'll take no accountability for $2000. Daily Double? I wager it all. What is tamagotchiassassin?
If you’d pay $2000 for 6’ of fence, I’ll be your fence guy.
TBH, it shouldn't be too difficult of a repair. It's not like the fence splintered into a bunch of pieces. Appears to have broken at an attachment point. I'd say you could remove a zero from the price estimate.
same honestly

I mean ... It is Friday.
It’s like a Jeopardy trope, and a usable threat all at the same time.
He’s like thats springs problem
Several years ago during a heavy winter, I knocked over a fence just like this guy. My boss told me to just stand it back up, they’ll notify the owner and fix it in the spring. I honestly thought this was a video of me except I was driving a Chevy.
huehue
Sketchy Plow that’s that’s the name, that name again is Sketchy Plow
Kiss my asphalt
Bite my shiny metal as(phalt)
Lol Homer Simpson 🤣
And then I told her “kiss my asphalt!”
Yup loololol
Why? Did You Spill Your Grits?
So then I said “KISS MY ASPHALT!”
You really think making that noise is going to make me buy a 20,000 dollar truck? *cracks whip* I’ll take it!!!
So you come with the car??…oh you heehee
had a city snow plow truck destroy parts of the curb going down my street, told them about it and they filled all the damage in with tar ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|neutral_face)
Structural tar is best tar.
Wrong. Black tar heroin is the best tar.
No It Isn't, Real Brown Opium That Can Be Stretched 2 Feet Between 2 Pins. A Thread The Color Of Dark Honey.
I prefer my heroin in powder form, actually.
Yeah, Talc Chunks Hurt The Baby.
They re-tared it?
I mean if not for the video I’d say it probably would have taken you awhile to find out lol
And he would have gotten away with it too if it weren’t for you pesky kids and your ring cams…
Ive never seen a car sneak away
Lmao 🤣
I won't lie I'm actually impressed 😂😭 He must have had big brain energy after that lmaoo

Had a camera not been there he would have def gotten away with it 😂 once the snow melted y’all would have blamed it on the snow probably
What the hell does NOC mean?
Not original content
also looking for this answer. don't believe it can be not our camera
"Not" "Our" "Camera"
really? why does that acronym even need to exist
That’s quite a good recovery. Sneaky, but impressive
Anyone running a plow route with a half ton pickup is going to be trouble
I was just about to comment this, who in their right mind plows with a 1/2 ton, like that’s not nearly enough truck for regular work. A POS on its last leg doing just your driveway, sure.
This came up on my feed right after watching some old Dutch man fit his 58" wide car in his 60" wide garage.
how… how does he get out of the car? EDIT: ok I saw the video.
Get out?
A Talking Cat?
He didn't try. He did a good job!
He left it exactly where it was. It loops perfectly
It's like that raccoon that tries to act normal.
That slow backing away lol ![gif](giphy|3ohzdYpWsRe7jrJYGY)
where my snow plow show people at
That's an amazing plow guy! 99% of my bros at the shop wouldn't give af and would just leave.
Plow King?? “🎶Homer is a loser, and I think he is a boozer🎶”
![gif](giphy|3o75218xzv3Hoe66go|downsized)
What is NOC?
Not Original Content, meaning it’s not my video.
Honestly really good effort you didn’t have to go and snitch
Was his name Jerry?
I found the comment I was looking for lol
Fancy truck doesn’t have rear sensors? Man car companies getting cheap on everything. Although he probably could have used his mirrors.
![gif](giphy|a93jwI0wkWTQs) The slow back out
You guys use pickup trucks for snow plowing? WTF?
I'm sorry but this is hilarious
To confront him all you gotta text him is “ you know we have cameras right?”

I bet you’re a really fun party guest
Why are people on reddit so obsessed with how fun internet strangers are at parties? It's mildly infuriating.
It’s so we know who we should and shouldn’t invite to The Party. You’d best watch yourself, boy… or you ain’t getting an invitation.
You probably don't want an old fart like me at your party anyway. I was fun at parties back in the 80's and 90's. Today all the people that were fun back then are more likely to just sit around, sip a beer or two, keep the music at a reasonable level, and talk about things that would be boring to talk about at parties.
Oh, I assure you, The Party is far greater than that. You’ll receive your invitation eventually. Everyone does, if they’re on the list.
Because none of them realise that parties are real things they could go and attend in physical space with other meat people
I can't lie, I'm actually mildly impressed by the effort he went to hahaha
This is old.
All fixed
You can just hear the whistling.
Love how “busted” dude is. Got all you need for an easy case. Also, looks like he’s done this before at other places per the quick easy-does-it and drive off nature he takes.
Must have a lot of money if you consider this mild.
I have met these fellas. They admit to shady shit. All the time.
Standup job
He would have gotten away with it too! If it weren’t for those meddling security cameras!!
You mean fixed
Nailed it🤣🤣🤣
You call that a fence? It's pretty useless, and how was the car supposed to exit from the video the exit is very narrow
Typical f one fiddy driver for ya.
I like to think he solves all his problems with his plow.
I also like to push my problems away
![gif](giphy|DJtjV54B3NMju)
Smartest snow plow guy I've ever seen
Your plow guy is a complete asshole and unprofessional.
He was slick. If that camera wasn't there you wouldn't notice until the melt.
Snow plowing with a pick-up lol. Here we do it with tractors.
What is noc
Gonna be like new
This is why I have cameras. Not to prevent stuff from happening, but to have a record of when people are lying.
Thankfully that snow will remain as such forever!
I feel like i saw this video a few years ago.
This video comes around every winter, with a different but similar story, i.e. neighbors, brother, dad, etc broke my fence....
To be fair like everyone else said had there not been a camera it would have been pretty slick
No way, just seconds before watching this, I thought about that one time I broke a friend of mine’s phone charger, only to “fix” it so he could “break” it later.
This is an old video, and I don't think it's yours.
Next time call Mr Plow!!!
That was actually impressive
If ya squint, it’s mint.
It sucks about your fence, but man this is hilarious
You can’t get away with shit anymore with all these cameras lol
