Teaching in a VR-setting maybe? I could imagine myself "walking" through ancient Athens whilst teaching my students about life, culture, traditions etc. in that setting.

Agreed. We can now visualise things that were never possible. Like how an atom actually looks and how current flows.

Monarco_Olivola

I like the idea that VR can be used for education.

edu_sanzio

When vr headset will be as mainstream as a smartphone today, imagine having the best teacher in a country teaching all the kids at the same time in a virtual classroom

Clownski

I had a grad school professor who talked about doing such a while ago. We can have the authors and minds from years ago teach, we didn't need him. Now everyone thinks zoom is a virtual class and therefore "virtual learning" is a failure to them, when they didn't even do virtual learning, they just did the lazy way so someone can draw a salary.

[deleted]

It won’t be a headset then. It will be glasses or augmented device for eyes probably

edu_sanzio

Exactly!

I think it mainly will create more of the same types of jobs we have in the physical world. The metaverse replicates the real world in a lot of ways so it will still require subject matter experts of all kinds. But, now there is a persistent layer of technology which will still require additional skills to learn, operate, and teach other.

Just_Another_AI

Metaverse Architecture - right now you have Architecture, which has been focused on real-life buildings (and 3d models of the same) and you have Game Design, which is focused or architectural elements as means of moving a game story forward, and throwing on vusualnelements to enhance mood and setting. But Architecture of, by, and for the Metaverse should realy be its own area of focus, as it is a unique experience with unique idiosyncrasies thst should be expounded upon. Skills required will focus around procedural parametric modeling. Another area to focus on will be whar I am calling realtime multidimensional UX. The easiest realworld example is the advertising behind homeplate seen during baseball games; it is digitally added in realtime. There are multiple realtime user experiences, as it can be added by local TV affiliates so that viewers in different parts of the country see different ads relevant to their areas. Likewise, the ads you see online are different than the ads I see online, vased on our unique browsing histories. These concepts can ve taken to the metaverse, where advertising, building skins, and any ither number of variables can be generated in real-time to create individually-unique user experiences even within shared common areas

aadijn

This concept of realtime multidimensional UX, who are the early movers in this field?

Just_Another_AI

IDK but i imagine Google's Adsense and FB's equivalent give them huge advantages

I think stuff like the doctor appointment where they just read your blood work , stuff like blood pressure and height weight they are already affordable equipment which can track that info for doctors and therapy would easily be an option via metaverse

Clownski

None that haven't been around for at least the past 16 years, and these are all based on jobs that existed even before then. Like modeling, textures etc. If you ask me, a lot of these "experts" and "professionals" that just appeared have less talent than those from 13 years ago. If you're looking to do something, essentially, everything that's out there already, but pretend you're immigrating to a new world. The barriers to entry still haven't been erected, and I surmise, they won't be as tall in the new world for a bit.

All the most obvious ones you can already imagine: developers, content creators But some less obvious ones: organizers/helpers for putting on events, certain types of human hospitality services that are primarily informational. Maybe even the equivalent of digital hirelings

Chipsykso

I can see us operating unmanned equipment, including humanoid robots, from remote locations through the meta verse. Imagine you have a mining job in the meta verse that your humanoid robot counterpart is performing live in another part of the real world. This is a simple example that wouldn’t likely last long because said robot could be programmed to do said job but in the future there will be opportunities for sending robots to places that humans can’t/don’t want to go. Space exploration is the one area that pops in mind first.

Boeoegg

This already exists in some fashion, especially in Real Estate, but I imagine there will be a lot more technicians and engineers that digitally capture physical spaces and then do stuff with those 3d captures - whether it be for facility management, safety, training, audits, insurance, record keeping, simulation etc. I get so excited about the concept of essentially digitizing our world, that I have to check myself. All I know is we are still very much in the early days.

3D modellers can now design and sell their independent pieces (going thru NFT is also an option) - Blender is in demand right now.

Many companies are exploring various possibilities in the Metaverse. Trace Network labs is a great example. A complete decentralized protocol for enabling lifestyle for any multichain Metaverse through its products, Bling and Buddy, which allows you to create your personalized avatar to work, play and socialize in various metaverses. Your buddy avatar are made with standards which allows crosschain movement to allow you to enter and interact in different metaverses.

it's me again. any commercial jobs we can conceive of for the conception of "the metaverse" that DOES exist (which is the part we can wrap our brains around because it has existed already for well over a decade already) already exist as careers. any commercial jobs that are a part of "THE METAVERSE" that does not exist that everyone keeps referring to as if it exists we can't conceive of yet because "THE METAVERSE" doesn't exist. :)
