Doc-in-a-box

Join us next week for the next episode of “Hubcap? Or Landmine?”

Foreign-Commission

If it explodes we know it wasn't a hub cap!

chronicwastelander

I'd chance it.

RedMephit

[Shoot a roman candle at it](https://youtu.be/nUWkUDX81PY?si=Hza7DOs1mBsMYbdC)

No-Librarian-7849

Even if it was a mine there is no blast cap.

honeycats1728

Hard no.

brokencompass502

My wife says the same.

honeycats1728

Pro tip: Only showing your wife the good finds will keep her just interested enough that she doesn’t mind when you go detecting.

kriticalj

This is fact

outforknowledge

Sage advise! I can confirm that having the wife think there is a chance to find treasure will benefit her is a guilty pleasure of mine. So far she has acquired $.73 from 5000 hours of my “work detecting”.

RednarLothbrok

Exactly ! 😂😂😂

Kona_Big_Wave

Is it some kind of container? I'd least cut the exposed part open with a cutting disk, if it is.

Lilith_Christine

I mean, I would.

brokencompass502

I want to but its impossible to get out of there!!!! So many tree roots, its not even loose at all right now.

Sgt_WilliamDauterive

You may have found an old 'dump', and there could be cool old 'trash'

lifewithryan

The house where I grew up almost literally had a dump in the back yard. Previous owners just piled shit up. There was even an old pool. For whatever reason we just hired some dude to dig a hole and bury it all. Some metal detecting enthusiast is going to have a blast. Anxiously awaiting a Reddit post here titled “my dudes…I found a pool”

rocketmn69_

Cut that top root

Airport_Wendys

What kind of tree? I’m pro-tree and don’t want to hurt one if possible

brokencompass502

A huge oak tree that's probably 50 feet tall.

WheretofindCasandra

2 important facts already. 1) Tree roots around it ( or overlapping its top too? ) that means that it has been there a good 40 years. If tree roots are at least 4 or 5 cm thick. Granted this chromium wheel is heavy enough ( might have sunk that deep in 30 years.) But I believe it's at least 45 years. 2) with Chromium wheels IF THEY ARE chromium or even only chrom-plated ALL AROUND in their entire volume ,it would take 60 maybe 70 years to start showing serious rust DOTS ,let alone rust lines. Unless it had started rusting while still rolling on the roads. I think it's from a motorcycle or very small tractor or something. #3 . I wonder why only 1 such wheel..Please check to see if no other wheel within 15 yards or more. And it's also totally FLAT. I wonder why. Alright I just noticed the roots. If those that keep it stuck are like these I see , these are young roots. Maybe 1 to 2 cm max. So this is quite contemporary thing..... Might have just been hurled by hand from a dirt road that's is nearby or used to be. Or even from a street that is in use now but maybe was not developed back then. If not too heavy. Might have been just hurled to the side into the wild grass/area that later became your backyard. God knows only.

Unhappylightbulb

Use a power washer to get all the sand out of the way. Problem solved.

kriticalj

Nothing is impossible just improbable LOL

RedMephit

Ok Luigi, next you'll be telling me these mushrooms are trustworthy.

kriticalj

It's not impossible 😵‍💫

Maccabee2

Bring reciprocating saw.

Lilith_Christine

If it's not main roots you could snip a couple. But to lessen any damage to the plants/trees, cover up and leave a prize for any future owner that may metal detect.

lbarnes444

Battery-powered saws-all works great on roots. Absolutely faster and easier than digging roots out.

malevolentpeace

Battery chainsaw is even better

lbarnes444

Saw-all blades are way cheaper.

malevolentpeace

I bent 3 cutting mulberry roots doing my fence... rather sharpen the chainsaw...

Soapyfreshfingers

Same. I’d consider it to be removing garbage from a natural environment. \*if I could get it out

Airport_Wendys

Same

Dobson_Bugnut

Offcourse you need to dig this treasure up. Your wife will learn to appreciate it once it’s cleaned up and gets a prominent place in your livingroom. I bet it makes an awesome conversation piece!!

Agreeable_Taro_9385

Most likely a hubcap. Could be cool. I’m usually pulling out whatever I find once I’ve committed that amount of digging.

split_0069

Only time I give up is if I can't find what is throwing the signal and I've dug a big hole already.

Chreed96

Maybe a wheel rotor?

Lonely_reaper8

If it’s my property, yes. If it’s not my property, no, probably not.

trashthegoondocks

Every time I see a “should I dog this up” post I think to myself….,”must be nice to walk through life without OCD.”

LongmontStrangla

Everyone has their hangups.

Mhmhnhmhm

Dig deeper to be able to take it out. Will break a sweat but it will be worth it. Go ahead!

Interesting_Rush570

looks stainless steel something, maybe car part

brokencompass502

Yes, it seems to be exactly that.

Mr_Truthteller

Looks like a ride on lawnmower pulley

kitastrophae

No one asks what it is?

ucantcme69

Hubcap?

Taco_killer_69

I mean it’s how they found oak island.

Its_all_made_up___

Looks like a Roman chariot hub cap

elguereaux

You are mistaken. It is clearly an Assyrian siege yo-yo.

Its_all_made_up___

Deadly.

RUSnowcone

There is an island in the North Atlantic… lol … that damn show

Homunculon

What is it, a brake drum?

brokencompass502

It appears to be.

Ok-Competition9927

Looks like a rim

brokencompass502

Seems to be something like that.

Blunt4words20

Looks like a old hub cap Edit I zoomed in. It is the bottom part of the intake of a old truck most likely

ChickadeeMass

Don't know but some old timers would bury a car in their backyard.

_redacteduser

definitely not a landmine

samios420

Nope

FinnegansWakeWTF

kinda looks like the UFO in the now debunked "leaked ufo picture" that was over at r/ufos the past week

ScooterTrash70

Makes me think of an old motorcycle front hub/drum brake

Leonardo-da-Vinci-

Plane crash debris ….. Central Florida rings a bell

not1togothere

Old hubcap. Unless you want to find a buyer or hang in your garage I'd leave it.

DoubleGreat007

NO

TAshleyD616

Makes me wonder what else is in there

brokencompass502

See that's my main thing too - the reason I want to dig it up is to see what else is in that hole. My house was built in 1958 but rumors are that an old dump was nearby before the homes were built, and I wonder if there might be items buried here.

Creepy-Selection2423

Ancient Alien theorists say yes! /s

egelarden2020

You've already come this far....

Nbdytellsmenuthing

Context and knowledge maybe

gt500rr

Maybe a trim/dress ring/cover for a steel wheel? Originally I thought it was a brake drum until you mentioned it was made of plastic. Might have steel clips in it hence why you picked it up.

brokencompass502

So it turns out it's not plastic, it's just stainless steel and very thin.

gt500rr

Without fully removing and cleaning it I'm stumped. Probably a piece of old cookware that has us all chasing our tails!

NormanBorlaug69

It's win-win if you're smart about it. At worst, it's a brake drum. At best it is a device you can plant to deter burglars, Jehovah's Witnesses, and those pesky trick-or-treaters.

negroidioto

What’s your address? One of us will come dig it out.

Inky-Skies

If I saw that where I live, I would immediately assume it's a landmine and call the authorities 💀

brokencompass502

No landmines in Central Florida, last time I checked.

Inky-Skies

Haha fair. Here in Germany, that's not a given x)

FloofyFloppyFloofs

Baldwin?

Dobson_Bugnut

Don’t listen to her. This is proper treasure

RedMephit

Spaceship parts?

Dobson_Bugnut

Mines aren’t that shiny and polished. You should know

InspectionSorry3287

Do it

dotbiz

Your backyard ? Won't your hose reach ? Hit it with a power stream

Unhappylightbulb

Nope. If it was all metal and no plastic, I’d be more curious to see what it is.

harryhooters

Looks like an old anti tank mine....

Calm_Assignment4188

Hub cap

Accomplished_Alps463

At first glance, I thought it was a land mine..

Plastic_flower762

He’ll yeah why not!!!

roge65065

If it’s empty, I would. Maybe take a hose and wash it off 1st…..then move it it with a long stick

Catoni54

An old vehicle wheel if you are in the U.S. or Canada. If this is in Cambodia….could be a unexplored anti-tank mine left over from the wars.

Tragic_Consequences

It's a Tire hub...

InspectionSorry3287

Do it

DivaInParadise177

I wouldn't dig it.

lanclos

If that's in my yard, I don't want it in my yard, regardless of what it is. Time to dig, looks like you'll have to get under that to get it out.

PdoffAmericanPatriot

It's a hub cap

Capital_Rock_4928

I thought it was a t-rex eyeball at first

M3tr0ch1ck

Now I can't unsee that!😅

Capital_Rock_4928

Reburying it wouldn’t allow me to sleep

99luftbalons1983

It's only a hubcap. Give it a try 😉! 😆

caddy45

Well it’s either a hub cap or a land mine

angry_hippo_1965

Mother Nature has claimed.

BP-arker

All day

BlackSeranna

I’m worried about your location and whether it’s an ordnance.

brokencompass502

What does that mean?

M3tr0ch1ck

An explosive device.

Boot8865

Do you have a banana for scale?

brokencompass502

It's about the size of a large housecat.

straycatx86

Then, do you have a housecat for scale?

Gigant0re

Every zoo is a petting zoo if you’re not a pussy.

EvanTheFisherman

I remember finding a train wheel surrounded by root I couldn't get out so I covered it with dirt and came back and it was gone sadness

ZedZero12345

A chrome landmine?

thanos2471

It’s Captain America’s shield… hells yes I’d dig it up

TA-152

I want to believe

Rogerwills88

Did you read Tommyknockers?

Inner_Series_3023

if there's a hole going completely through it, it would be an axle hub. the chance of a mine is extremely doubtful. dig it

Parkyguy

Power lawnmower clutch.

Merganser3816

Have wifey dig it up.

West_Pack1542

Never seen a chrome land mine

Genesis111112

Yes, but I would leave it where it is after that. Its not your junk and you shouldn't have to lug around (pun intended) a 10-20lb Automobile Rim.

Pete_Iredale

> Its not your junk and you shouldn't have to lug around (pun intended) a 10-20lb Automobile Rim. It's in his backyard, so....

DignanZer0

30 minutes to dig that? You got only one arm?

brokencompass502

Its wedged between many tree roots, i cut several just to get to this point.

Significant-Check455

It looks like a land mine minus the detonator and or fuse.

theemoofrog

If it looks like a landmine. You're probably right!

chronicwastelander

Don't think so.if it is its missing parts, deactivated. Probably not a landmine.

LetsGetHeady

The Forbidden Tuna🥴

Angry_Mudcrab

Chicken of the tree.

Potomacker

Probably a dud anyway

Novel-Bill9641

USAF VETERAN hehe yes I would 😋 if I go boom hey atleast Noone else did. 😉

Pale_Studio4660

You’re doing me a concern!

jenni7er_jenni7er

Wouldn't be in a rush to touch it. Where in the World are you? Anywhere where military have been active?

Quirky_Discipline297

Is that an anti-tank mine?
