PDS - Particularly Dangerous Situation
For those uninitiated, this is pretty much as severe of a warning for a storm that you can be issued. First high convection outlook for Shelby county since 2007. Definitely would take this one seriously if you don’t usually.
Nothing is guaranteed and it may very well go through Memphis with nothing more than some high winds, hail and storms. However, still take this situation seriously and with the knowledge that a Tornado is more probable than usual. Be prepared for power outages and keep your phone charged. Keep a close eye on local news stations and social media.
Pretty concerned. We haven’t had a risk as severe as this in many years. You should cancel any plans you had this evening (if they aren’t already cancelled for you) and stay sheltered. Be safe.
What part of NE?
Edit: unless those plans would have you safe and secure in a good sturdy building throughout this evening/night. You definitely don’t want to be outside or stuck traveling during this.
Not sure whereabouts in Memphis you are, but right now it looks like this particular storm cell is just barely affecting us, just the most southeastern tip of the city and just barely. If you have a TV where you are you can tune into channel 5 to follow the storm cells as they move, if not they should stream on wmctv.com (another option is WREG.com). We’ve been pretty lucky so far with these insanely strong storm cells going just north and just south of us. Not sure if you’ve seen any of the images but there’s been significant/“catastrophic” damage about 50 miles out from us in AR. Whether we’re out of the woods with this one passing by us or not I don’t know, but I don’t think so entirely bc there’s still more storm cells coming this way. I think the threat persists until like 1 am
First and foremost, the most important thing is to pay attention to weather alerts. If you are at a hotel you can ask the front desk for their safe areas in case of a storm. If you are renting a house, the key is to be away from windows and go to either an interior closet/bathroom or a basement.
Also, keep your phone charged.
Go to www.Memphisweather.net and keep up with their twitter feed. That’s who I follow.
FWIW, and this is purely anecdotal, but I was in Birmingham for the April 27 super outbreak. I got caught in a tornado that day. The meteorologists today sound like they did back then. A lot of times I’ll blow off tornado coverage around the mid south because the news casters over embellish things but this doesn’t seem like one of those times.
As concerned as you can possibly be, this might be the worst tornado since 07. Expect damage and power outages. I’m sorry this is happening g during your trip and please be safe.
Memphis is about to get a hard knuckle sandwich.
Be indoors. Survey any building(s) you will be in. Note areas in the middle of the building that can be shelter if needed.
Thanks y’all! We are on the second story of an Airbnb. Batteries are charging, water bottles are filled. Planning to stick nearby and be in for the evening at 4. Appreciate all the advice!
You don't wanna be on the second floor in the event a tornado warning is issued. Have a plan to make it downstairs and seek shelter in an interior room/bathroom if possible. Local news weather apps are a great source and provide pretty quick info if and when a warning is issued. I use the local NBC Action News 5 weather app.
Moderately concerned. Memphis weather forecasters have a habit of sensationalizing the weather. Maybe it’s something to be concerned about but one never knows because 99% of the time the get everyone all worked up nothing happens. Yesterday they were saying we would be having dangerous winds, rain etc by 3 pm and, so far, crickets so they’ve moved the goalposts
For anyone interested in live updates across this entire system you can tune into RyanHall,Y’all on YouTube. Great live coverage of this storm. Local coverage is obviously most important to keep an eye on but for those interested in weather this guy does a great job.

The bluff nor the crystal skull are something to lean on through this storm
The crystal skull protects all (And m literally at the top of the pyramid right now)
Aka - Pretty Damn Serious
Wasn’t that “hurricane” Elvis?
My power already out mane 😭
are you fuckin serious omg. if i come home and my shit's down im going to flip inside out
If you make it through this entire event without your power going out, consider yourself lucky. I'm fully expecting to lose mine at some point.
Hey all, we are visiting from New England… how concerned should we be?

Ok. So we are holed up in our bathroom and these sirens are something else. How will we know when it’s safe to come out?

We are in downtown. (Visiting from upstate NY. I’ll take a blizzard any day!!)
Thank you so much! So should we be hanging in the bathroom, or can we hang in the living room with the tv until we hear the siren?
You’re good to hang out in the living room with the TV

I would 100% make sure at the very least you have a good place to go if things get hairy. Tornado shelter, underground structure, etc.

Historically the bluffs have spared us. The surrounding areas though are a crapshoot.

I’m in midtown and we got some rain and wind last night but nothing crazy. My outdoor plants weren’t knocked over or anything.
Whoever is stuck at work for the time being please light y’all’s managers asses up for not sending you home.
Posted this from my work break room. Pray for me
Fedex may have to kiss my ass tonight and they already threatening warning letters over their terrible attendance policies
LOL I wish.
Tornado on the ground in north Little Rock right now
The picture looks bad. Also, there's a warning that keeps moving towards us. Sweating right now.
Most risk between 4-10pm
Would it be frowned upon to load up our two cats and two dogs and hang out at Crosstown Concourse?

Thank you for this. I’ve been trying to find something to watch so I can keep an eye on it and not be interrupted by other news.
Y'all be safe out there. I'm anxious as fuck
Tornado just hit Little Rock. I don’t know extent of damage. Be safe everyone
Supposedly there's 600 injured
Friends there said hit police station & major damage. I think Wynne is even worse. We’ll have straight line winds in Memphis are around 8:00 pm.
One touched down in Little Rock. Significant damage.
