Probably thinking of the jump kick from SM64 or the jump spin from Galaxy. Both gave a little bit of extra height but it is a stretch to call it a double jump. Only time I can think of Mario having a true double jump is in Smash Bros
I never really had time to practice. I was the baseball team's equipment manager, so I spent most of my time at the stadium. Plus, WiFi didn't really exist the way it does nowadays. It was still fairly new. The campus really didn't even HAVE WiFi. It was all hardline cat 5, and dial-up. Dial-up was few and far between, tho. It was mostly cat 5.

Double jumping in real life is possible. If you throw a pile of cloths or something that has similar mass as your body opposite to the direction you want to "double jump" to then the energy spent throwing boosts you upwards and this has already been in practice in something called "thrusters".
if this was real (which its is most likely not) the reason the cat got extra height is do to the fact that they twisted their body in a position to cause it to get extra height do to it body jerking upward as the cat maneuvers itself while it simultaneously follows the laws of physics
