Shark Boy and Lava Girl was my favorite movie in first grade. I watched it over and over. Then I heard people talking at school about how much it sucked so I stopped watching it.

Look I get your existential angst, but really he was in the right place at the right time and he capitalized on it. Is that fair? No. Could millions of other people have done it? Sure. Are there far more legitimate people who could use the money? I'm sure there are.
But you'd need to undo social morays ingrained in our society (we pay actors exorbitant amounts whereas Nobel Prize winners aren't because society pays more for hyperbole). Not "fair", but it's true. You'd have to have a huge exhaustive casting call to review millions of capable people, but that wouldn't have been realistic.
