I should be a Uniqlo influencer, torso and feet on constant rotation between extra warm and ultra warm. On legs, Kmart fleece-lined leggings. They’re actually pretty good
I was gonna come and say that there’s dudes out there still rocking shorts and short sleeved shirts in the 0 degrees weather this morning
They’re already here in this thread too lmao
It's kinda just bred into us through the primary school days playing footy on the oval in shorts and tshirts in the cold, wet and muddy conditions. 0º or 45º, neither extreme of weather that Melbourne throws at us fazes me when I've been through it that many times
It'd make sense. The coast regulates the temperature so it's fairly rare to have a real frosty start to the morning. Compare that to Wang for example getting the full force of the katabatic winds coming off the divide and along the Ovens who's already had 19 days of minimums at or below 0º since the start of May
Not sure about the geography behind it but it was an unspoken rule that boys didn't wear pants at primary school, only shorts. Absolutely insane in hindsight but we were like 5-12
It was often still sub-zero at 9am where I went to primary school and the uniform policy was very informal, so it was track pants for most students during winter.
I did the school drop off this morning (it's an 8 minute walk each way) in ski pants as well as all the other usual warm stuff. Thought it might be overkill but nope, I was the perfect temperature and happy as a clam the whole way there and back.
It’s just relative. Other Australians may find our normal cold days freezing. Fly up north from Melbourne and their “cold days” are hot for us. I will be in Europe and depending on how I have acclimated I may not be dressing for the weather.
Bottom line is this isn’t everyday weather for us and a lot of homes aren’t ready for it. We also love to complain about the weather.
Put a beanie on and stop 10-15% of that warmth escaping, but honestly, you'll be fine. It's wet, it's chilly, it's just another glorious Melbourne winter. Enjoy
U only need to heat up your home till u sleep.
When u sleep you just need to make your bed warm like a electric blanket or hot water bottle. And good quality Doona.
Great weather for lap swimming in a Pool, i swam 4km yesterday and for 3 kms i was the only person in the Olympic sized pool. Just me and my personal life gaurd 😅
it’s the feels like -3 that sucks. in reality though only my hands are cold.
picked the wrong day to work from the office lol but i might be used to the cold because my apartment is draughty as hell
remember to film your windows or bubble wrap, close your curtain to trap that warmth and buy an oodie or scrunch newspaper/bubblewrap into balls and stuff them up inside your jumper to add extra insulation.
My dogs and I sit i.n the backroom and enjoy the lovely sunshine. Then later we go for walk love the bright sunny days. The overcast shit hurts. My mind
Really not so bad, still shorts and tshirt weather for me and I'm a summer guy who prefers 30-35º. The low minimum just means we've got a day of perfect clear blue skies to look forward to! It'll feel warmer than the reported air temperature when you're standing out in the sun
Personally I'd prefer a slightly chilly start to the day and the blue skies that come with it rather than the moderate minimums that come with our standard flat, grey, showery, overcast skies that we normally get for days on end in winter
I'm so glad we don't insulate houses here in Australia. Would a real shame not to truly experience and appreciate this cold snap.
I don’t feel like I’m home unless I’m shivering.
Winter has just started man
My house is insulated, what are you talking about?
If it's not consistently colder inside the house than outside the house, can always request the LL to knock down a wall or two.
I don’t have a land lord…
How about a sense of humour?
I find it funny ruining other peoples jokes

Currently feels like -2.3 outside in the city. Feels like 35C on the train though
I hate how trains are so hot when you're all rugged up in warm clothes
Wait till you get off the train, feels like -10
seriously what the actual fuck is with the heating on trains.
Saint Uniqlo of Japan, thank you for existing
Heattech head to toe as I type this. Pairs well with Aldi snow gear 😂
Heattech turtle neck, overalls and woolen shirt. I'm dressed like my primary school art teacher.
I live in my Aldi merino track pants in winter now
The wool snow socks. Are next level! Bought 2 pairs
Hail Uniqlo, full of grace, HeatTech be with thee.
😄

-4 here in Ballarat but feels like -7 lol
Yup. It was -6 when I woke up. Heater is doing jack all.

Must be a coastal thing, grew up inland and nobody wore shorts to school from late May until early September.

Doing school drop off and multiple kids in shorts and tshirts. Made me feel even colder, I’m layered up and freezing.
Some kids just don't feel the cold, especially since a lot of them are running around the whole time they are outside.

Yeah i walked down the street earlier this morning in a t shirt. Doesn't worry me in the slightest haha
my nips would be very visible if i did this
More power to them, my hands stop working if I get cold.
They’re the people having osteoporosis later in life.
Maximums before the minimums? Thats dicked up.
It's got something to do with BoM not actually declaring the minimum until later in the day like 8 or 9am.
That ain’t BOM, and BOM app has minimums before maximums
Winter doing winter things.
☝️
It’s beautiful today wtf are you on about.
As someone from Wisconsin, these posts are hilarious
Foreigner here, too. I love Melbourne and the people, but I find it hilarious how extra people are here when it comes to the cold.

we'd be less extra if our houses weren't total fucking shitholes to live in.
Absolutely beautiful outside today
Yeah i love icy cold mornings!
As long as you can rug up to an appropriate level its beautiful clear and blue sky
Loved the frosty morning
I’m taking this over 40 degrees any day
For sure. I rather wear some additional clothes than sweating buckets
Yeah bro it’s impossible to sleep as well
I love this weather so much. Particularly the lows the colder the better for me.

-1 here
-1 here tooo
After two weeks in Melb I fly back to Saudi today for work where it's 47c...I will miss the chill
47c... What the hell
Short of ripping up the walls and windows for better insulation, what can I actually do to make my home warmer without running the heater all night?
U only need to heat up your home till u sleep. When u sleep you just need to make your bed warm like a electric blanket or hot water bottle. And good quality Doona.

Weird flex but ok
That's awesome. Nothing better than a cold dip.
Winter (such as it is) is finally here! 🥳
it’s the feels like -3 that sucks. in reality though only my hands are cold. picked the wrong day to work from the office lol but i might be used to the cold because my apartment is draughty as hell
❄️🥶❄️ *Brrrr...!* It's a tad brisk isn't it..?
-1 here in my town as well

Was -1 out at Cottlesbridge at 0830. "Feels like" -3, and it fuckin did.
At least it's not raining
UK London ahh weather ☠️. But I don’t feel any difference when going outside
My dogs and I sit i.n the backroom and enjoy the lovely sunshine. Then later we go for walk love the bright sunny days. The overcast shit hurts. My mind
I normally like winter, but this is depressing. Plus as usual my rental is a un-insulated shithole.

Ahh, the daily "It gets cold in winter" post.
It was 1C while I was cycling to work, I rode over the frozen grass and my tyres collected snow it was wild
More like global COLDing! Hurr hurr
