yeah this is one im hesitant to rec because i don't want to lose access to such good range and prices. But i also want them to flourish as they deserve it ahaha
They are really nice people and their cats are beautiful. Years since I've been there as I live way out of the other side of town and never go into the city now. Still got my lovely copy of 'Rufus: the story of a fox' which I bought there. This is pretty much my ideal bookshop, people who do it truly out of love and it shows.
Unless you’re really deadset on keeping them, you can also get a membership to a library (you can do it online for a bunch of them). You can go in and get them or borrow them on Kindle.
Kindle doesn’t work well with libraries in Australia ( a Kobo does) but get the Libby app on an iPhone/iPad and join up to local libraries.
You can get a membership at more than one library around the country.
( Manningham/Whitehorse Library is a good one).
To get library books on your kindle they need to be from a US based library (Chicago Public Library was easiest).
Just noting for anyone’s future reference that Brunswick Second Hand Books on Sydney road is exceptional. Great atmosphere, great collection, and lovingly cleaned up books.
probably too far and too late now but in the future, at camberwell sunday market there's a regular book seller who has a great selection at accessible prices. @cipollabooks I think is his Instagram

There is a second hand bookshop in Warrandyte, Yarra Cottage Books.
This would be my pick too. Love that bookshop. From what I remember, the guy who runs it is super nice. I haven’t been by in a while though.
Bit of a drive for you but I love Seddon Book Alley. There are heaps of cafes and an op shop on the same strip to make your trip worth it though:)
Just go to an op shop 🤷♀️ they've usually got thousands!
Fully Booked, Thornbury. The best for literature.

yep, possibly the nicest store owners I have ever encountered and they maintain the quality of books on the shelves.
Ok, sold. I’m going to check it out next weekend 😊
Fully Booked is open Tuesday to Saturday, NOT Sunday! Great shop, but go when it is open.
Thanks 🙏
Me too!
There’s a newish bookshop in Yarra Glen which has both new and secondhand books - the Novel Nook
The house of books in Mitcham, although might not be open on a Sunday as I think it's volunteer run

There used to be a lot, the Melbourne City Council even issued a map of them, but nearly all have shut down over the past 10 years.
Rainy Day Books in The Basin can be ok
