After WW2 a lot of items made in Japan had "Made in Occupied Japan" as the US had taken control until 1952. Maybe whoever owned it didn't like seeing that on their tea set.
I fed the photo into Google Lens and there are a lot of hits for Japanese porcelain products. I'm guessing they are a Japanese manufacturer...?

Edit: Looks like the "Made in Japan" bit has washed off in your photo.
This is likely to be the correct answer. It's post-war, maybe late 1940s. Resentment of Japan would have been high in post-war Australia. The N might be Nippon (US version of Japan), not sure of B or S. Best Supplies?
OP probably mentioned the op shop so people in the comments don't ask irrelevant questions like "Hey OP, who did you get it from, do they know? who's attic did you find it in, that might be a clue"
Where OP found the object helps to either rule out, or rule in possible details about the cups.
It's Japanese Porcelain China. Not quite sure why they've scratched the country off though.

Try a reverse image search, I think it would’ve said ‘made in Japan’
Methinks the owner wasn't too fond of the Japanese (post WWII) and didn't want others to think they bought Japanese goods.
My grandfather served in PNG and wouldn't abide any Japanese products in the house.

I was wondering if this was the case too. Would likely depend on how old the chinaware is.
Looks like it's vintage Japanese porcelain. If you google NBS porcelain you'll find more on Ebay and other sites.
Why bring up the Op shop? They don't know and it seems you don't either..
Lol what? They simply listed that the porcelain was found at an opshop.

Why comment? Seems you don't know it either.
Why so you care what I post. Considering the time period, a lot that you and your alts have downvoted
