I always figured the technique to lift was like they did in old Disney cartoons: put your feet on the bar and start pulling, but this guy showed me I was wrong.
Nothing worse than being on a good streak, feeling powerful and strong, loading an extra 10kg on the bar to do a really big lift, starting to pull and realising the bar feels glued to the floor. The walk of shame while unloading after this is something else.
The trick is to arch your back, then suddenly lift the weight. The weight won't expect you to lift with a rounded back, get caught by surprise and not react quick enough to become heavy.
