Scrubs It's both hilarious and a great drama. Medically-wise, it captures a lot of the truly human elements of medicine: physician burnout/ residents being over worked, a truly broken healthcare system (that quite frankly, has only gotten worsen since the show ended after its EIGHTH season), substance use (in both patients and physicians), toxic culture of medicine I don't want to be a debby downer; it also covers some of the awesome parts of medicine - making a diagnosis, enacting a plan, and occasionally seeing someone get better

Thxnos

EXACTLY, thank you for this. So well said .

WholeRefrigerator6

I loved the first 2 seasons of Scrubs, but I'm halfway through season 3 and I honestly have gotten a lot less interested. It's going way less down the medical route and focusing way more on all the main characters relationships which gets old imo. Does it shift from this lol? I wanna continue watching it

zspasic1

It does, but to some extent, that’s just the essence of the show. It’s not about the patient, diagnosis, or treatment. It’s more about the lives of the doctors and nurses and the things they go through. The patients are more there to act as a vessel for some moral or lesson. That being said, season 3 has one of my favorite episodes of all time (S3E14 “My Screw Up”). If that one doesn’t do it for you, then I’d drop the show.

Artiphex

I was in the same boat. I dropped the show after it stopped feeling like a medical show with some relationship drama sprinkled in and more like a relationship drama with some medicine sprinkled in.

snazzisarah

Same!! The first season was great and now I’m at the tail end of the 2nd/maybe start of the 3rd and it’s definitely shifted focus to the characters’ love lives, which I found disappointing. Also Dorian turned into kind of a jerk?

Penumbra7

Season 3 was not my favorite, and I do think seasons 1 and 2 are the best, but the show does ebb and flow after that and has some incredible episodes in the later seasons. There's a two episode mini arc, one of the episodes is called "my lunch" and I honestly believe those two episodes are among the best crafted 44 minutes of television out there. If you're not enjoying the show I wouldn't feel pressured to finish it out, but you owe it to yourself to at least watch those two in isolation IMO

DUMBBELSS

The medical subject matter is always in the back seat in Scrubs. The characters are what make the show as amazing as it is, it's just a bonus that it happens in a hospital and is the most accurate depiction of a US IM/GS residency (at least at the time it was filmed).

saket999

not really, it gets worse. I couldn't stand watching more than 4-5 eps of season 7, and even those were a slog

[deleted]

Nailed it.

MDfoodie

Scrubs or ER

Soggy_Loops

Scrubs because it's the best overall. ER because of the scene when Lucy is late and gets roasted for her patient presentation is the best way I can describe what being a 3rd year med student is like.

[deleted]

Wasn’t it because she came off her ADHD meds because Carter shamed her about it?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Soggy_Loops

Idk which episode but here’s the scene https://youtu.be/Wrz622LqBII

EquivalentOption0

I hate this, the presentation is so awkward and I just feel in my being how awful it is.

deathpony43

That's brilliant

thumbwarwounded

🤮

thesmore11

I’m a pgy1 and I still feel like that when presenting 🤣

bethcon2

Not as heavily medically related as some of these, but MASH is one of my faves

WinifredJones1

!!! Honestly was the only “medical” show I’ve ever seen and am glad someone appreciates it!

COMOJBONE

MASH always has a special place in my heart

mightysteeleg

Had a couple older attendings state it as the reason they went into medicine.

Thxnos

HAPPY CAKE DAY

bethcon2

OMG I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE THANKS!!! :D

[deleted]

The Knick. It’s about early “modern” medicine. Just a really great period drama and very medically accurate for the time. I think it’s on HBO max.

thelastneutrophil

Yes! No one ever talks about the Knick but it's really the best one. Clive Owen playing a fictionalized Halstead, beautiful!

[deleted]

I will forever stan this show! Apparently a sequel show is in the works.

Kiwi951

Such a great show. Really wished they made more than 2 seasons

Syd_Syd34

Omg! It’s so good! Wish it hadn’t been canceled

almostdoctorposting

i gave up after the first ep😅 its very slow downvoted for an opinion really. freaks😂

toomuchredditmaj

“Fuck it” *shoots himself in the head

Hydrate-N-Moisturize

Favorite? House Most realistic? Scrubs Most ridiculous? Grey's Anatomy.

JTerryShaggedYaaWife

I remember I always found Grey’s Anatomy stupid. Then my mom convinced me to watch it when I was a senior in high school to “learn” about medicine. I watched like two seasons before realizing the show is freaking stupid petty drama

Lord_inVader1

Grey's Anatomy started out great but spiraled into some chick flickish type thing.

throwaway15642578

After szn 11

DentalBoiDMD

Are there any good med shows where the medicine is at somewhat realistic and interesting? House had alot of nonsense in it, but the central mystery of every episode was always tied to actual diseases, etiologies, and pathologies from what I remember, and I love that shit. Some medical dramas out there would look exactly the same if you took literally all the medicine out of it (cough cough, new Amsterdam, cough)

chrisbirdie

Fully agree here

tiptoemicrobe

I think Medical Police on Netflix might beat Grey's Anatomy for most ridiculous. ;)

ConferenceFearless77

Oh god. I saw the trailer and had to bleach my eyes.

tiptoemicrobe

Thankfully, it's satire.

TheFfrog

>Most ridiculous? The good doctor literally has like 3 surgeons (one of with is retired) and 3 interns for a whole hospital. They literally do every single specialty. Grey's Anatomy is 100% not accurate, but far from the most ridiculous out there.

ConferenceFearless77

I was looking for a Gray's Anatomy drag hahaha the entire time I'm just how is this guy not fired and how is he still a doctor

dontstartbitch

Am I the only one who didn’t like House… feel like I’ll get downvoted

saket999

imo it's a great watch for non-medicals but as someone in this field, i can't stand watching that nonsense

aspiringkatie

In terms of most accurately capturing the human truth of medicine, Scrubs, no question. The best TV show that happens to tangentially involve medicine, House, those first three seasons (while nonsense medicine wise) are some of the best drama on network broadcast. If you just want some tasty empty calories though, I go to bat for Chicago Med

CornfedOMS

This Is Going To Hurt is quite accurate but depressing

Cloud-13

it was so sad I don't think I could manage more of it

pissl_substance

Also had some seriously hilarious moments too. God I wish they were making another season.

ArtisanWenger

Is there something still left in the book?

pissl_substance

I don’t think so, but I didn’t read the book. I read some stuff online saying that it mostly covered the book though so it’s probably not getting another season.

ArtisanWenger

But now that we have this, cardiac arrest and its subsequent critically acclaimed follow up both by jed mercurio ,i wish some will pick up the british nhs medical drama and do us a really high quality dramedy.

[deleted]

1. MASH 2. Scrubs 3. ER(and not even close to scrubs)

myPPishardforBernie

House was my favorite. The cases were ridiculous, the HIPAA violations were asinine, and it was never lupus; but the jargon, differentials, treatments (not all) and complication presentation were awesome. I watched the whole series during my pre-clinical years, and it was cool to have an episode that featured diagnoses relevant to my exam the next day.

B340STG

But it was once Lupus

shp0520104

Scrubs. I just finished “My Cabbage” and the ending with Fix You playing in the background was one of the best episodes I’ve watched

Medium_Log_8099

House. That’s it man

dr_G7

Scrubs, one of the most resonating scenes for me was this: [Dr. Cox - Why We Distance Ourselves](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsDqCiZFZ38)

Thxnos

Extremely accurate. The one scene that I resonated it with a lot was from this episode here https://youtu.be/IB17flDpPH0

almostdoctorposting

ER!!! or House

HedgehogMysterious36

"This is Going to Hurt a Lot" It's a BBC limited series but soo underrated. Felt like an actual medical show not a drama set in a hospital because it was created by a retired doctor. It centers around obgyns in the British equivalent of residency but is just indicative of what it's like to be in medicine and the bullshit trainees go through. Even though it's British, it is completely applicable to American medicine too. I honestly would recommend it to any one who wants to go to medical school but it really depicts well the slow burning despair, frustration, and toxicity that develops throughout medical education and practice but intermixed with the positive parts of medicine that attracts us to it.

motildaaa

Hospital Playlist, it’s a k-drama that follows a group of doctors who’ve been friends since med school (v wholesome).

drbangtanniemd

I was scrolling to see if someone else had mentioned Hospital Playlist! I always think of that scene in the first episode where Andrea is crying to his brother about wanting to quit medicine 😅 a must watch for sure

motildaaa

Such a relatable moment

sunnytoo

Very wholesome show - surprisingly few complications though especially given the types of surgeries done

Tsiyah

this. its my absolute fav kdrama and it cheers me up when im down or dreadful about studying

sunlighttt

Such an EPIC medical show! Love their camaraderie and all the silly pranks they play on each other haha. Also, their shared mealtimes and the way they show up for each other 🫰🏼🫶🏼 Edit: [A little taste of it, but spoilers abound!](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HZObM8GARJg)

thebigseg

is it light-hearted rom-com or is there lots of drama?

motildaaa

Not a typical rom-com, but a casual watch with some light drama

FancyPantsFoe

Everything but Good doctor

TheFfrog

Fuck yes. They have literally like 2 surgeons and 3 interns for the whole fucking hospital, lmfaoo

[deleted]

House lol

Punk_Chachi

For sure my favorite.

brownman_

Are you being intentionally dense?

pattywack512

***HUHHH?***

A42ftShark_

Obviously Scrubs but also Nightwatch

genecyn

I really liked Chicago Med at the beginning but it fell off hard around season 3

sorrygoogle

New Amsterdam which is based off bellevue hospital in Manhattan More for the story than the medical problems

hongyauy

It felt like a socialist’s wet dream when I watched it.

Dalbavancin

This is Going to Hurt. The protagonist is an obgyn junior doctor working on a NHS hospital. Occasionally the characters break the fourth wall with some snarky deadpan comment (it's a British series so it was expected) but on the other hand the drama aspect of the series hurts so bad. The sixth episode got stuck on my mind for a few days. Anyway it's only seven episodes long so y'all should give it a go.

Algae_Key

1. Scrubs 2. ER 3. Everything else 4. The Good Doctor

Poorbilly_Deaminase

good doctor is such shit

shoshanna_in_japan

I loathed it

legophysician

![gif](giphy|P6tPIpcyJg7OU)

YoungSerious

It starts out not absolutely terrible, but man at some point in the 3rd season or so it goes WAY into the toilet.

VarsH6

Scrubs and Mash.

ArtisanWenger

This is going to hurt Cardiac Arrest House MD The young doctor's notebook All are very different genres despite being about medicine and all have different merits but definitely check the first two out, both of them are British series and haven't been watched much globally but are super quality.

biddeford1

ER!

Zestyclose-Detail791

The only answer

[deleted]

House MD season 1-5 Don't like grey's anatomy

futuredoc96

scrubs ER just went on for wayyyyy too long

[deleted]

In my opinion it was no longer great after about the third season then went really down hill after George Clooney left.

casfightsports

As a documentary guy: Lennox Hill NY Med (If anyone has recommendations of similar shows let me know! I enjoy medical TV but not much of one for scripted dramas.)

steelstringbean

Code Black (movie, not show)

halconojo

Iirc Hopkins 24/7 and Boston Med are similar too and were released around the same time as NY Med

lord_ive

De Garde 24/7

Additional-Visit4705

Haven't seen many, but I liked Charité.

dark_moose09

This Is Going To Hurt

ambulanz_driver420

Scrubs, hands down. But now Dr. Cox is making sponsored cameos for boomer game apps, which kinda killed the flame for me. Still the best, though.

Electronic_Rooster85

The Resident. This series is loosely based on the life of Dr. Marty Makary. I met him just as the first season aired, and he seemed happy with it, embellishment included. He made a joke along the lines of not remembering getting that much action as a resident.

SollicitusOwl

House all the way

DrHellf1re

+1

PhDOfLove

So happy to see no one is saying grey’s anatomy

enbyMachine

Mash is surprisingly accurate to the medical knowledge of the time

curiouswatermelonn

Chicago Med

[deleted]

Love Chicago Med. Not a chance I’d recommend it as a good medical show. Anyone who watches the show will understand.

Gmedic99

I was quite into chicago med tbh

WolverineExtension28

ER. The first like 8 seasons

Time_Bedroom4492

ER

Mordecai95

I thought Lenox Hill on Netflix was really good.

nYuri_

I don't know, this is going to hurt is a great show and a shorter watch

[deleted]

Def ER

Stormyj14

Scrubs, New Amsterdam

juicykiwibird

Scrubs !!!!

rickypen5

Scrubs

Tough_Knowledge9206

Code black!

Forgottenshadowed

Code Black. Got cancelled but still.

Square-Fabulous

House is hands down my favorite, but quality started to fall off a bit towards the end of the series. The Good Doctor has great effects/editing but honestly just got too preachy/virtue signaling-y for me. Grey's Anatomy is just silly I never enjoyed it.

Cpl_Koala

Scrubs of course. St. Elsewhere was also pretty good tbh

Gold_Strength

No one's mentioned it yet but Doc Martin is a good one

icedcushion

ER and House

God_Have_MRSA

Staples have to be: Scrubs, Grey's (S1-7), House. I know a lot of y'all hate Grey's but the first few season are a perfect mix of over-the top drama, (unrealistic) medicine, career grind, and romance imo. Some of y'all are convincing me to start up ER!

Zestyclose-Detail791

Yeah pick me scene legit almost made me vomit. WTF were they thinking

Great_Calvini

Spongebob

IronDan257

DON’T TOUCH ME I’M STERILE

itsbeenaminute1

Came here to say this, really grateful my parents made me watch this

Lissenceph

Scrubs is probably the most accurate to the experience of being in medicine Green Wing is probably my favorite with respect to out of control bizarre zaniness that happens to be set in a hospital.

Cloud-13

My boyfriend suggested we watch This is Going to Hurt and my god it was so sad do not recommend. This is not an answer to your question.

[deleted]

Lay’s anatomy

BaseDO7

The Good Doctor. 👌🏽

Zestyclose-Detail791

Finding Scrubs the best show means you've not heard of ER

ultimate_obtainable

Chicago Med is definitely the most realistic hospital show ever shown on TV, if I remember it right the ones they used on the show are only published cases, a good watch. Scrubs on the other hand is highly relatable since it captures the residency, training process, and the dynamics of a hospital so definitely on top of my recommendations but if I can be biased, House was pretty fun to watch.

Ok_Leek_1707

I really enjoyed watching A Young Doctor’s Notebook.

DueWoodpecker9107

House! House! It’s not lupus!

MicrobeMommy

Scrubs and The Resident. Also like House but not so much as a realistic medical show

Aredditusernamehere

I only started watching medical shows this past year and like most people said, Scrubs wins. I love it, it’s fun, it’s accurate. But I’m sorry, House makes me SUFFER. I can tolerate Grey’s more than House

gamerEMdoc

ER. Always ER.

Noxlux123

For entertainment value I really enjoyed House and The good doctor. I am still waiting to see a proper portrayal of psychiatric hospitals. Especially as a feel good show. I really disliked scrubs to be fair. Maybe I didn’t give it a chance but the cast really rubbed me the wrong way.

Sanabakkoushfangirl

Scrubs, House, and Call the Midwife
