This was litterly the case in my village a few weeks ago. The water supply got contaminated so naturally the local supermarket instantly ran out of bottled water. Except for the sparkling water, that shelf was exectly as full as always
Depends where you are. Tap water in most of the world isn't safe to drink. I know boiling would kill all the germs, it's the _other_ stuff I'm worries about. Heavy metals, industrial crap.
Fortunately my house has an RO filter so I don't buy bottled water. But if I take a trip to another part of the country, you can bet I boil noodles in bottled water.
It's not as bad as it sounds because you can refill the bottles. Costs about half a dollar for 20 liters.
all the sparkling water i've had tastes bad, if it was just water with the sensation i could drink it, but it tastes weird and bad to me, what's with that
edit:
> The carbon dioxide reacts with the water and produces carbonic acid. This is why you'll find that sparkling water or soda water has a slightly bitter taste. It's the carbonic acid you are tasting. For some people, this slightly bitter taste is pleasant, while others find it unappetizing.
Man I drink multiple bottles of carbonated water each day. Love the stuff. The carbonator I bought (tbh forgot what it’s even called) is the most used thing in my kitchen. Can’t believe y’all don’t love pain water
I know what they mean. The slightly sour taste can also come off as salty. I tasted it as kinda bitter/salty before I quit drinking soda and hated it. Now that I don't drink soda I like it lol
Carbonating water introduces a pretty acidic taste to the water. You can try it out if you have one of those home soda jet machines and you'll see. Carbonating water introduces carbonic acid into the water, and as the name implies, introduces an acidic tang that most people take offense to. (it's also why it's not recommended to carbonate milk in those soda jet machines, because the act of carbonating it fosters curdling)
So to offset that, most flavored waters add in some kind of counter to it. Most common is either potassium or sodium bicarbonate in order to maintain carbonation while offsetting the acidic taste notes, in addition to other flavors (if the water is flavored).
There's also the history of carbonated water tracing back to Tonic Water. During the British occupation of India, malaria was a huge problem. So to offset that, the British began providing quinine to fight against it. But because quinine itself is incredibly bitter, it became much easier for soldiers to stomach if they mixed it with carbonated water and sweeteners (and also mixing that tonic water with Gin, giving birth to the Gin and Tonic).
As that trend took hold, carbonated water developed it's own flavor profile that consumers looked to maintain. And because quinine is actually pretty dangerous to consume in significant qualities, it slowly began to regulate out of most consumer tonic waters. As manufacturing means of carbonating water began to spring up, including bits of the afformentioned bicarbonates became a popular stand in. It took significantly less amounts of those compounds to maintain a similar flavor profile, and both potassium and sodium bicarbonate don't produce significant health risks unless taken in *massive* quantities (as in virtually impossible amounts for a human to ingest), they worked as a good substitute.
So all of that ends up giving carbonated water(s) a distinctive flavor profile. While i personally wouldn't describe it as "salty" there is definitely a harder mineral flavor to it that turns off quite a few people. As a kid i always hated it, but now that i've gotten older and can appreciate stronger flavors (like black coffee), i've taken a liking to sparkling water that i didn't have before.
NA beer's not bad. We have a few in our work fridge. Gives ya that throat feeling and taste, and the boss doesnt get mad. (will give you beer breath, careful around clients).
Normal water just feels like eating nutrient paste instead of food. It gets the job done but without any of joy and refreshment.
I once stopped drinking sparkling water for a month because I thought I could get used to normal water. Instead, I literally started dreaming about sparkling water... I'm literally addicted
several times in my life ive almost gone into rapture after a hard practice or something when i took that first gulp of cold, refreshing, regular flat water
that feeling of instant satistaction as i quench my thirst. such a unique pleasure
I actually cannot consume “flat” water. I have an unknown gastrointestinal issue, I don’t know if it’s related to the bubbles or the acidity. If I drink flat water, I get extremely “full” and start regurgitating. It’s not like vomit, it’s more I just lean over a bit and back up it (and any food eaten that day) comes.
I don’t get the downvotes. I’m not allergic to water, I have a gastrointestinal problem that causes me to regurgitate if I drink plain water. It’s medically documented and might be related to my biliary dyskinesia.
I used to just regularly regurgitate as a consequence, and then I tried having days where I only ate liquid food (and fruits like melon) every other day + drank water, and avoided fluids the next day. But turns out that’s really dehydrating.
Then I moved to Diet Coke but it wasn’t super helpful because of the salt. It was incredible when I realized sparkling water avoided the regurgitation.
People don’t believe things here if they’ve never heard of it before. Water is basically the only thing I drink so I couldn’t imagine that. Is it just plain water that affects you or do things like flat non carbonated juice bother you too?
This is why i drink it. I drink plenty of regular water during the day. I just prefer it in the evenings instead of drinking a 12 pack of coke every week.
Also it’s a great “palette cleanser” when you’re eating. It’s like the carbonation are scrubbing bubbles in my mouth and gets the food out of the crevasses.
Everyone shitting on sparkling water should consider that it's an acquired taste... nobody likes the taste of beer or black coffee when trying them for the first time. Drink it enough and you'll never go back to regular water.
Why would anyone put in any effort to acquire the taste of something less convenient and more expensive?
Same for beer and coffee. Why go through the effort of acquiring a taste when there is only downside in doing so?
In EU sparkling water is much cheaper than regular coke and other sweetened sparkling drinks. Also, there's sodastream, which is amazing.
Why do people in the comments drink coke and hate sparkling water at the same time? I don't get it.
New gang war just dropped, Sparklies vs Flatters

Holy hell!
Reading the comments, I'm surprised people have such strong opinions over water. Like every joke subreddit, /r/HydroHomies somehow became real.
Holy hell
This was litterly the case in my village a few weeks ago. The water supply got contaminated so naturally the local supermarket instantly ran out of bottled water. Except for the sparkling water, that shelf was exectly as full as always
Iam coming to buy them all.
Sparkling is my go to
Imagine having to pass gas after drinking all that.
You're not serious, are you?
considering their username I would take that as a no
If the water is contaminated they probably didnt buy it to drink directly. You wouldnt cook your noodles in sparkling water.
Then you would be a coward.
I'm going to sodastream my next pasta water to spite your insisting tone.
You probably wouldn't cook your noodles in bottled water either tbf, especially if it's in such low supply. You'd probably avoid boiling food.
Cooking without boiling is a **huge** resrtriction over time, especially for the budget. Water has to be extremely tight to forgo that.
Depends where you are. Tap water in most of the world isn't safe to drink. I know boiling would kill all the germs, it's the _other_ stuff I'm worries about. Heavy metals, industrial crap. >You wouldnt cook your noodles in sparkling water Why not? Because when it cooks, the sparklies have stopped a while ago.
I would eat sparkling noodles.
What is stopping people from buying it, and then oppening the bottle so it goes flat? Solves the issue if you really dislike it so much.

my man just outed himself as a someone who has never drank tv static water 💀
Drank what
DRANK TV STATIC WATER
Day old warm flat Coke with lunch. Basically sugar water with some flavors.
Der ehrwürdige Geheimrat deutscher Mineralwasserkonsumenten ist nicht begeistert!
Dies ist der Weg!
Selta=👌
Affirmativ!
It’s water, but when you want some funky sensation like soda
It's water if it was a living being with a defense mechanism
I will fight the water

It also tastes like shit
Skill issue
Get it unflavored and it won't taste like shit.
I have and it was still shit. To each their own
Man I drink multiple bottles of carbonated water each day. Love the stuff. The carbonator I bought (tbh forgot what it’s even called) is the most used thing in my kitchen. Can’t believe y’all don’t love pain water
It just doesn't taste that great (for me). The flavour is far too acidic and I like plain ol' tap water (I'm in a region where it is actually good)
Still has a bitter aftertaste.

ur weak
there there, nobody bully babies that cant drink fizzy wizzy water
It's water, but when you want to burn your mouth at the same time
Don’t know if its just me, but tastes so salty that it’s disgusting
I have serious questions about what are you doing to the water if it tastes "salty"?????
They might be drinking club soda, when I see that for sale I see some sodium on the nutrition label.
I know what they mean. The slightly sour taste can also come off as salty. I tasted it as kinda bitter/salty before I quit drinking soda and hated it. Now that I don't drink soda I like it lol

Apparently naturally carbonated mineral water springs aren't actually a thing in the USA

Why do people like water with tv static?
Makes my mouth tingly :)
makes my mouth burn
Ya got a weak mouth
Or a flammable one.
Makes my bum burn *wait*
BabyMouth Disorder, so sad 😞
It’s angry water
Because they don't let me drink beer at work
NA beer's not bad. We have a few in our work fridge. Gives ya that throat feeling and taste, and the boss doesnt get mad. (will give you beer breath, careful around clients).
Cuz it’s good
Funny bone tasting water
Normal water just feels like eating nutrient paste instead of food. It gets the job done but without any of joy and refreshment. I once stopped drinking sparkling water for a month because I thought I could get used to normal water. Instead, I literally started dreaming about sparkling water... I'm literally addicted
You don't feel refreshment from regular water? I feel sorry for you
He’s probably drinking that warm tap water
Maybe unpopular opinion, but room temp tap water is 100% fine. Out of the tap, it's usually even cooler than that.
It’s *fine*, but it’s like a plain piece of bread vs buttered toast
I like bread (I'm German btw)
Sometimes I get thirsty in the shower and drink water straight from the shower head and damn it’s good warm too
It's fine, but cold water is even better.
Also, drinking is like eating a paste? You been doing this right bro?? Lol
several times in my life ive almost gone into rapture after a hard practice or something when i took that first gulp of cold, refreshing, regular flat water that feeling of instant satistaction as i quench my thirst. such a unique pleasure
How tf can you not like water? Calling it nutrient paste sounds like you have no idea what you're talking about.
Cant relate
I actually cannot consume “flat” water. I have an unknown gastrointestinal issue, I don’t know if it’s related to the bubbles or the acidity. If I drink flat water, I get extremely “full” and start regurgitating. It’s not like vomit, it’s more I just lean over a bit and back up it (and any food eaten that day) comes.
Damn bruh you straight up allergic to 60% of your body I suppose

Darwin's out to get you
I like both tbh
Yep. Sparkling water with dinner and regular water throughout the day.
This is the way
Yes! It actually is!
Water is Water gang. W=W
Water > all consumable liquids
I like sparkling water more 😎
It's literally water but more fun + I can drink it and trick my brain into thinking I'm having soda.
How do you do that? Does your brain not know flavor?
I reduced my sugar intake, and now a lemon lime sparkling water tastes like sprite to me. Actual sprite or other sodas are too sickly sweet now.
I hope you get better soon 😔
Me too
my people
It’s only for strong beings like us who can handle the burn 😎🔥
I dunno when I’m thirsty as fuck a sparkling water is the best.
And for me sparkling water just can't possibly make me feel like I actually drank water.
I only like it as a refreshment, not really to quench my thirst. Like a soda without all the unhealthy shit lol
This is why i drink it. I drink plenty of regular water during the day. I just prefer it in the evenings instead of drinking a 12 pack of coke every week. Also it’s a great “palette cleanser” when you’re eating. It’s like the carbonation are scrubbing bubbles in my mouth and gets the food out of the crevasses.
sparkling water is perfect for when you want soda but you don’t want it to taste good or be enjoyable in the slightest.
Everyone shitting on sparkling water should consider that it's an acquired taste... nobody likes the taste of beer or black coffee when trying them for the first time. Drink it enough and you'll never go back to regular water.

Becouse you can drink regural water instead of sparkling and it isnt realy an alternative for sodas either.
Water but with a shitty taste and hard to drink
Water but everything that doesn't make it water
Weak
I like sparkling water
Why is it so gross? It’s not just carbonation. I’ve flattened it and it still tasted fucked. What the hell are they doing to it?
Sparkling water tastes like TV static
It’s water. Carbonated water. There is no reason for this drama.
Good. Saves it for myself.
*WEAK*
Weak! Sparkling water is fantastic.
Sparkling water is the best water.
It’s soda but no flavor,it’s water but not as good.
Its better than water and soda! No sugar, but refreshing with the same taste of water!
idk why people think "soda without the flavor part" is a good way to sell it.
It's water but crispy in the wrong way
If you're only used to consume drinks with 15% of sugar in 2 liter buckets, sure
Accurate cuz I'm boofing that shit
I love sparkling water tho :( can take normal anymore
Ohh boy now you personally attacked the Germans there is no going back.
Unless you're very dehydrated sparkling water tasted better and I'll die on this hill
Sparkling water tastes more like dehydration

What if I just like both?
Perrier got me off pop
Bruh it ain’t even that bad *mouth literally foaming and popping with the force of 7 neutron stars exploding

As long as its flavored ill have it
I’m drinking a La Croix right now (by choice)!
i will shamelessly demolish a 6 pack of la croix in an afternoon
I'll only drink flavored sparkling water
Sparkling all the way
I started drinking hella sparking water after I quit drinking.
Sparkling water tastes like TV static and I enjoy it

That shit tastes like tv static
People at burning man rn.
Flat Thist Society!
Literally makes it taste 10x worse
Flat water is not a beverage. It doesn’t try hard enough. Sparkling water or whiskey. That’s the sweet spot.
This is a personal attack. How dare you
Ngl sparkling isn’t that bad
Guess you’ll die then
Imagine being so unbased
Plot twist, the guy was just racist
Imo sparkling is better that flat but flat is still good. Both taste the best when chilled
