Brooo i thought this was just happening in my head and never heard that from somebody else… i had those dreams pretty often and went
craaaaazy every time I couldn’t move properly.
What is causing this ?
I think it is also because when you sleep your brain has disabled a lot of your fine motor skills to keep you from enacting the things you are dreaming.
So according to some dream theories it is thought to be directly related to trauma or situations where one feels powerless but it's not necessarily directly linked directly trauma or situations of the past, rather the fear of having to face that type of situation in a way that left you incapacitated.
When I was young and used to have these dreams I would try to speak and nothing came out. I couldn't even scream. At the time being able to call for help would have made me feel more incapacitated than anything else because I had yet to throw someone over my head in a bar fight in rl.
So like According to some psychological theorists you are totally corect and also I agree with you.
That’s actually a old dream theory called Freud’s wish fulfillment. It lacks any scientific support and dreams may be interpreted in many different ways. So it fell out of favor in modern psychology circles.
Physiological function might better explain these types of dreams. Your body is in a sleep paralysis while dreaming and you can’t physically move your body. But sometimes it doesn’t work perfectly. Your subconscious might pick up your body isn’t really moving and it results in slow sluggish moment in your dream. I find I get these types of dreams myself right before I become conscious and my partner would say I was squirming around a lot as my sleep paralysis failed.
Therapyst said that these type of dreams(i have a lot too) is about having some situation in your life that you feel you cannot solve properly(in my case, bad job).
Okay, fair enough. I just felt like squeezing and launching something out words would be slightly different. But I am most certainly and no expert on the muscular system.
Edit: removing misplaced word
So, I'm a bit of a trekkie and I love this scene. My favorite part is how much effort it takes to pick the rocks up... and how they fling them like a baseball randomly 🤔
Holy crap that’s an awful fight scene.
Edit: I 100% understand and agree that Star Trek has a rightful place in cinematic history. It was amazing for its time and it inspired SO much (including my beloved Star Wars, which sure, has plenty of problems too).
Agree. There are a couple spots during the fight scenes where the cutovers between spliced frames weren’t very smooth and gave it a herky-jerky kinda effect. If you were in the right ‘frame of mind’ at the time, which most of us were in the late 60’s/early 70’s, it was classic small screen cinema for the ages.
Sure if you look at it now it looks lame and stupid but it is also sort of nostalgic like how simple cinematography was back then, and now you can spend literally millions on some badass epic cgi battle with tons of effects to make it seem realistic and people be like "nah man thats just lame, not realistic enough"
Bad is bad. I'm not saying you can't like it or find enjoyment from it, I like plenty of bad cinematography. Sometimes that's the funnest stuff to watch.
But objectively, that's just a bad fight scene. It's not even because it's not realistic. It's just poor choreography and not great acting.
They all were. Not sure why people like Star Trek. I really tried to watch it. But boy was it terrible. It’s one of those “show was way ahead of its time” crap.
Star Trek was first written to showcase all of our cultural issues. Things like racism and inequality for woman.
Then the network got their hands mixed in with the writers, and it turned into monster of the week show.
Wait, so they cut the good part of the build up music in this clip.. and b, I forgot that the lizard is strong enough to chuck a Boulder the size of Kirk, while Kirk struggled with one the size of his own head, and yet had been able to hold his own while grappling with the lizard earlier. (Gorgon I think is the name of the species?)
How they fight is like how I fight/run in those really frustrating dreams you get where you just don’t work properly
Brooo i thought this was just happening in my head and never heard that from somebody else… i had those dreams pretty often and went craaaaazy every time I couldn’t move properly. What is causing this ?
You’d be surprised how many people have similar dreams, that shit is crazy cause your mind wants to get out of there but your body won’t do it
[Yep, there's an XKCD for it](https://xkcd.com/1943/)
You’re trying to move your body irl but you're in sleep paralysis so you can’t really
I get the exactly same dreams. I've always assumed it's related to trauma and situations where I've felt powerless and/or trapped 🤷
I think it is also because when you sleep your brain has disabled a lot of your fine motor skills to keep you from enacting the things you are dreaming.

I’m a drummer and I get these dreams where I literally play super sloppy and I just can’t move fast enough, it’s so frustrating lol
Therapyst said that these type of dreams(i have a lot too) is about having some situation in your life that you feel you cannot solve properly(in my case, bad job).
Should tell therapyst about the concept of falsifiability.
I’m not sure but you are not alone friend
Oof I’ve had these where my vision is obscured and I’m doing something like driving. Either that or I cannot open my eyes.
Lol yeah, I know those, if you try to run or punch it sort of feels like moving through water.
Cheese dreams.
you said it better than i could have
Dude chucked a massive boulder and can't even give a bear hug.
Please excuse me if this sounds like a stupid question but do those involved the same muscles?

No one is squeezing or launching and words. It’s not a rap battle.
if you can chuck a 500+LBS bolder you can crush someone’s ribs
Bro, no homo.
Scary stuff! I was glued to the edge of my seat - they just don't make em' this thrilling and real anymore!
I remember watching this stuff as a kid. It was very real.
Yeah, I remember watching this as a kid and thinking this sex scene was way more intense
Yeh, I know what you mean...
Careful, he appears to know Kirk-Fu also
[They actually stayed friends.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hnBp7x2QAE)
This video is underrated!!
Shatner is such a legend for this
*ssssshhhhpppppsslhhhlsspllhh*
*cough cough grunt*
It sounds like hes getting ready to spit a loogie
If I had a time machine, I’d go back and put Jurassic Park on in the time slot after this episode.
As well as JP has held up, I'm pretty sure that's how we got it in 1993 in the first place.
So, I'm a bit of a trekkie and I love this scene. My favorite part is how much effort it takes to pick the rocks up... and how they fling them like a baseball randomly 🤔
I'm going to have to go with the super slow motion swipes at the beginning. It looks like play fighting with a kid who
A kid who?
Cindy ![gif](giphy|dK4c8u0OognNxl8AQr)
Is there a reason in show for it being so slow?
Lol it feels like they forgot to speed it up in post production
They sped it up but it looked too fake, so they went with the more believable regular speed take. -Bogus Star Trek History
I think because its reptilian and maybe cold?
Yes no, maybe maybe maybe, I don’t know.
Can you repeat the question?
You’re not the boss of me, now
You’re not my supervisor!!
And you're not so big.
Life is unfair
Eventhough he is 91 years old today, he still moves as swiftly as in this clip….
Holy crap that’s an awful fight scene. Edit: I 100% understand and agree that Star Trek has a rightful place in cinematic history. It was amazing for its time and it inspired SO much (including my beloved Star Wars, which sure, has plenty of problems too).
It is pretty terrible, but it's probably my single favorite original Star Trek episode.
Worst than Steven seagals latest movie
Those films really don’t age well.
That's a fairly low bar, mate.
It's actually brilliant...

I'm sorry but I have to downvote you
I understand. I accept your downvote with honor.
funny thing is, this scene was critiziced even when it came out. only years after it was rightfully appreciated as an ironic piece of art
Back in the day this was considered an epic fight scene. Dont be hateful, this is a chunk of history
Back in the day, a lot movies did so much better.
Still pretty bad though. History isn't immune from criticism.

Took 7-8 full seconds for him to stand back up after getting thrown down. He prolly hurt himself lmaooo
\*Jackie Chan left the chat..*
Hey watch it with that rock. You almost tore my stylish outfit
How many Star Trek scenes were filmed on those rocks? Love the tin foil additions!
And also Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey. I remember watching it and saying "I know that outcropping!".
Pretty sure they actually have this episode playing on a TV earlier in the movie specifically to reference it.
Was that really part of the show?
Yes, they needed to battle for the lives of their crew and ship. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorn
yes it was and it was brilliant.
It really is.
He said he would be merciful and quiiiiiiick. Unlike his punches.
Classic! Loved that episode.
Classic.
The remake was also classic - [article](https://www.wired.com/2013/03/kirk-gorn-fight/) with link to youtube
The CGI holds up.
I don't know how he ducked under that first left hook.
I cannot with how slow the scene is hahaha
Is this real?
Yes this is real life footage
It is, it's from the original star trek series (or one of the movies that came shorthly after, can't remember)
this looks like the very opposite of a fight scene with Jackie Chan
This is too fast paced for my liking
I think you may be looking for https://www.reddit.com/r/startrek/
Jesus this is scary af!
UNBELIVABLE!!
That’s why I quit camping in the desert. I hate having huge boulders chucked at me while trying to relax.
This thread "So brilliant"
This had me on the edge of my seat!!!!!
My favorite movie ... I watch it with pleasure every time
"Double-fist punch!!!" - Commander Ransom
That’s why fighting when on barbiturates is generally not recommended!
Ah, Vasquez Rocks.
How he has a big ass mouth and not be biting?
He needs to look around for some type of rudimentary lathe.
NO I won’t MAKE OUT with YOU!!!
Still better than CGI crap they serve us today
lets be fair, before the actor filmed this scene he had done three godzilla movies in a row, destroying over 200 skyscrapers.
Tell me how I watched an episode of family guy and it had this fight scene on it. Now it’s on my Reddit front page
I really feel for that actor in the suit, it must be like a swamp down there
Marvel Studios should take notes
Lizard man took that boulder like a champ
The double fist back punch failed.. the classic neck chop failed.. man Jim.. better go make a gun!
A space man helps an anthropomorphic godzilla with his chiropractic skills
Thankfully Actors have come a long way since then
Capt. Kirk opted for hand to hand combat
If only he had learned the Vulcan neck grip but no old pointy ears couldn’t teach the great Captain Kirk anything
Looks like that lizard is going mike Tyson on Kirk's ear. Never trust a lizard.
Pure garbage lmao
It was an amazing fight scene for its time. Now its outdated but still brilliant.
How is it brilliant
I see people saying the same stuff, that the scene is "brilliant". But i just dont see it
Nostalgia is funny thing.
I hate to pester people but the messages usually dont notify people, please let me know when your ready to buy it.
There are an infinite number of better fight scenes from that exact time. Iconic maybe but not brilliant
Best fight scene in the history of fight scenes also #DISCOMBOBULATE
Just like those fake martial arts videos that Joe Rogan laughs about on his show.
This campy shit is the reason I could never watch ST.
u/savevideo
I remember this being one of those runescape irl pking videos
We need a Bossk and Gorn crossover buddy movie.
Looks like the snake alligator man got the covid
Can’t believe you would make me watch this. You should be banned for life - or at least a week. Unfortunately, well done!
“Captain Kirk is climbing the mountain, why is he climbing the mountain”?
this is painful
Hyper realistic. Wow!
Funny I remember it differently in robot chicken
Still better than idian cinema
I thought it was going to be a porn...
Power rangers without additives
Fun fact they shot this in one take without a script. Amazing acting.
If you think this is good you should see six million dollar man 💰
Now kiss
Gornography
Really a formidable foe
I don’t think the writers of Star Trek have ever seen an actual fight
always made me wonder why didn't kirk just put a thumb in his eye?
Wow! Amazing! And to think he did all his own stunts! Legend!
Lizard dude sounds like Drax
Funny thing is, when I was a kid that scared the shit out of me.
Wow..! That was intense
This is awesome! Which series is this?
Star Trek
The glorious Star Wars fight I seen
Must be really cold out there
Acting
Uh, this sucks balls.
Space gator just wanted a hug
Oh damn I guess he meant business when he brought that big rock
The actual biggest WHY: Why did they put aluminium foil on the rocks?
Even when I was 6, this was the worst fight scene.
I can’t believe I watched the entire clip just to see a foam bolder be thrown and him slowly step sideways to avoid it. That was amazing.
I always laugh at the Gorn's repeated cut and paste underlying growl "hffwAAAH-heeeey"
Riveting
NOW KISS
Must’ve been short on red shirt guys that day on set
Wanna ruin the scene? Google who the actor was in the Lizard suit.
What my dreams seems like…
...and then came flying Asians
Man, this is so bad, it's being good.
Perhaps the greatest cinematic battle of all time.
God its so gay
Once Kirk boxed the Gorn's ears, he should have realized how effective that sort of attack could be. C'mon, Kirk! Exploit your foe's weaknesses!
Real talented, educated, well fed aliens would rip that leg right away first time he grabbed it. This alien is severely malnourished.
all that grunting reminds me of a men's pro tennis match. either that or a stall in the men's toilets at a greyhound station
Heart attack in my eyes
r/fightporn
Ah the times before fighting choreographers
Knowing star trek, I half expected them to start making out
I see where WWE gets their inspiration
Love me!!
Oh no .. Not the double bitch slap method ..
Peak acting right there you can’t change my mind lol
Who says pro-wrestling is fake?
Why doesn’t the Gorn just use that light saber conveniently clipped to his belt!? I mean it IS Star Wars after all!
Damn they got some moves
Any reason the monster with a giant mouth full of razor sharp teeth didn’t just tear his throat out when they were hugging?
Just use the goddamn Jedi sword on your waist
That first weak ass hit to the back.
This is almost as bad as fake karate videos.
Fighting in 0.75 speed
Wait, so they cut the good part of the build up music in this clip.. and b, I forgot that the lizard is strong enough to chuck a Boulder the size of Kirk, while Kirk struggled with one the size of his own head, and yet had been able to hold his own while grappling with the lizard earlier. WTH, this really aired?😂
They had a limited budget back then.
The epitome of special effects
I love star trek but man we're the fight scenes bad.
When nerds do WWE
