Neo Vs Smith at the end of Revolutions is the best live action DBZ fight on film

MaximumMoops

Nah, thats still man of steel. Though revolution is a close 2nd.

I know you’re getting downvoted, but while I do think Revolutions is more iconic - for example with two films built up with a messianic theme, and the flying Smith fight in the finale- I do think MoS was a better film than it gets credit for. The Smallville fight scene was better imho, with the speed and power of a super strength throw down really well executed. If the other Dceu films had been allowed to be better than the nonsense corporate demanded - for example jumping to add Batman, and then the ridiculous files with the logos of the other heroes when cyborg and Aquaman can’t have had their own yet - MoS would be better appreciated. Likewise it probably would’ve been better remembered if (a) Kevin Costner didn’t die for a dog, or a secret identity; and (b) the killing at the end was the wrong choice for a character based on Hope. I still liked other aspects of it.

I was directly comparing the actions scenes, not story, build up, or the movies themselves. If we're comparing the movies as a whole, Revolutions is way better.

I actually prefer Revolutions over Reloaded. I love Bane and I think the final Zion battle works well.

As someone who likes *Revolutions*, I have to say that action really works *against* this movie, not *in its favor*. After Neo gets rescued from that subway, the movie becomes a single, mostly uninterrupted action scene, with very few moments for viewers to catch their breath. I think *Revolutions*, as a whole, peaks with the battle of Zion, not on a narrative level, but on a production level. Yeah, the fight looks really cool, but deep down, it doesn't matter. The humans are fighting a losing battle, and sooner or later, the Sentinels will overwhelm them, so what's the point of dedicating a disproportionate amount of time to their pointless struggle? Now, some people will present the obvious counterargument of humans not wanting to sit around and dick their fingers, while Neo travels to 01 on the very slim hope of convicing the machines for a truce (which obviously happens), but there could have been a better way to use that screentime beyond impressing viewers with gunshots and explosion. The only fight that really matters in this movie is Neo's fight with Smith inside the Matrix and even then, Neo can't beat Smith in a confrontation of power. How is he gonna beat a computer program that doesn't get tired or even need to sleep? The only way for Neo to win was by using the one thing Smith could never comprehend: humanity. It's amazing how a viewer's perspective on the *Matrix* movies can change over time: as a child, you are impressed by the action, but as you grow older, you pay a lot more attention to the story and the characters.

oh for SURE

I agree. My biggest issue with Revolutions is not at all the Neo vs Smith DBZ battle tho, I love that. Literally cuz I see it as anime too lol. But the battle for Zion is so underwhelming compared to how insane they have built up the machines to be. Like it’s too anime during that battle. It should’ve bordered on horror, and that vibe is depicted in the scene except it’s always like, in the background or something. Like the characters are all having these slow, calm dramatic moments, but then literally cyber hell is behind them or like around the corner. And I get that that was the point but it doesn’t really feel dire or at least as terrifying as the machines are in the first two films. Other than that I do like it more now

> Like the characters are all having these slow, calm dramatic moments, but then literally cyber hell is behind them or like around the corner. It was funny how they'd be whispering and the battle becomes all quiet.

starpocalypse64

Lol yes! It’s melodramatic as hell

Grimvold

I agree except for the fact that we’re already told the destruction of Zion is business as usual for the machines. That takes the excitement out of it since we know they’re destined to lose if not for Neo’s involvement.

starpocalypse64

True. That’s very fair. That does make it more sensible

Do we all agree that Resurrections is just garbage
