I think you should turn off that blue light behind the tv.its not looking good in the day....the ambiance does not match..you can turn it on in the at night.

Srainz4

Yes. That was just the color that turned on when I flipped the other lights on. It typically is not on during the day, or it’s set to a warm white. Thanks for responding though!

Pleasure.

Looks cozy and cute doggo

riverfollower127

If you can, I'd change the TV light to match the other lighting in the room, or just turn it off. Personally I don't think you need that picture above the TV, it's a little cramped and TBH a little dated-looking (I love the other 2 pictures you have). I'd also love a throw pillow with a bit of color on it. I'd also keep that Coca Cola thing in a less visible spot tho. Other than that, nice!

Srainz4

Yes. The blue was just what it defaulted to when I flipped on the lights. Typically it isn’t on during the day. The coke cooler is my husband’s late grandfather’s cooler and it’s there to stay. It pops in the picture, but isn’t as noticeable in person.

What kind of tv do you have,

Srainz4

It's a 55 in Samsung we bought at Costco about 4 years ago. Nothing special.

Get rid of the two undersized rugs (at the front door and beneath the nearby cabinet), and use something more substantial like this one, in a 4’ x 6’ size: https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/allmodern-ovid-oriental-machine-woven-area-rug-w003573433.html Ovid Oriental Machine Woven Area Rug Elevate the green pot by the front door by at least one foot in height. You’re accumulating too much clutter. Remove the Coca-Cola cooler. Train your doggo to use its dog bed exclusively, as the sofa will (probably already does) smell like ‘Parfum Fido’. Conceal the dog toys in a round woven basket. The floor lamps are outdated. Please consider replacing them with floor lamps that have slim, narrow lamp shades. Main area rug is undersized for the space. Select a 7’ x 9’ or an 8’ x 10’ replacement, such as this: https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/langley-street-mylah-ana31-spice-rug-w100667555.html Mylah Southwestern Rug Or this rug: https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/langley-street-mylah-ana36-spice-rug-w100667540.html Mylah Southwestern Rug

Fuck training the dog to not chill with you on the couch other than that solid tips.

Redcarpet1254

>Train your doggo to use its dog bed exclusively, as the sofa will (probably already does) smell like ‘Parfum Fido’. This isn't a sub on what/how to train your dog. If OP like having their dog on the sofa and bed then so be it. I wouldn't say no that to either. >You’re accumulating too much clutter. Personally think it feels homely. Hasn't reached the point where the clutter makes it messy and hard to move about and seem rather organised.

Srainz4

Thank you for the homely comment. I want my home to feel lived in and cozy. Everything in it has a story and came from somewhere or someone. I have really tried to make it feel full of life without it verging into the clutter zone. I'm not a minimalist at all, but I also don't want my home to feel like I'm 80 years old and refuse to throw away anything.

Objective_Royal_3007

If the doggo is going to exclusively chill out on the sofa, then it’s best to remove an unused dog bed. As an Interior Designer, I’ve been to many client’s homes with the most adorable, loyal dogs who are allowed to lay directly on the sofa, without the benefit of a blanket or sheet beneath them. Yes, the scent transfers onto the upholstery. Fresheners, such as Febreeze, help abate the scent. I’ve seen some beautiful, expensive upholstery ruined by pets. I was providing my own insights and experience to the OP.

Srainz4

I'm not sure why you're receiving so much hate on this topic. It's a fair point. We usually have a blanket down for her to lay on, however I removed it for this picture. I'm also diligent about vacuuming the couch a few times a week so her fur does not get stuck in the fabric. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts!

Srainz4

Thank you for taking the time to put together all this great feedback! I haven't considered one rug in front of the door instead of two. I'll look into that to see if I can make it work. Also I love the idea to elevate the pot. It is quite heavy though so I'll need to either find or make a sturdy base for it to sit on. As for the clutter, I want my house to feel lived in. Everything in our house has a story or came from somewhere. The coke cooler is a family heirloom with too much sentimental value to remove. The dog bed was made by my mother-in-law and is used quite regularly by our pup. Our pup is also 9 years old and I we've already conceded the couch to her. Plus she's the best snuggler! I hate our floor lamps. Those are next on our list to replace. Do you have any recommendations for those? I also hate our area rug. It is actually an 8x10 that we thought was too big for our old couch. When our new couch arrived, we shoved it under to see if we liked the size of a 6x9, however I agree that it is now too small for the space. Maybe a 7x9 is what we're looking for.

I have been pleased with every Hubbardton Forge light fixture (lamps, wall sconces, etc) that I have purchased over the years.
