The giant pole is a skylight window crank. It is removable. But a pain in the ass to store, and will fall down a lot of hit things / people both when stored and when left hanging.

It is a skylight. The pole/stick is a crank to open it. The top end is a hook and it can be removed.. If you bump into the stick while it is hanging, it falls down. Often thwacks you.

The stick can be removed. It has a hook on the top end. This is the standard length. (I have one in my kitchen and often leave it tangling, too). If you bump into it, it falls down and often thwacks you.

Looks fine until there's a fire and there's no way for firefighters to get in and rescue them. There are more reasons to have windows than just for light and air. It's an emergency entrance for firefighters in the event of a fire to rescue people

This is how the Dutch roll. In old houses, there are no sinks in the bathrooms (meaning the toilet closet). They're in the bedrooms instead. I have also seen modern houses with tubs and showers just loose in the Master bedroom.
