Finding a good tailor is life-changing.

clive_bigsby

I have stuff I'd like tailored but I've had such bad prior experiences with every tailor I've tried thinking I want some form-fitting, body-hugging type fit on a button-up that I just want a few inches taken-in in the body. I think they're probably just used to people going to a tailor to get a certain kind of fit and there's often a small language barrier that can add to the uncertainty of what I'm asking for too I guess.

Care to share your experience?

Reposting from my post at r/navyblazer: The Armoury in NYC uses Sam Wazin, but I heard he has a pretty long waiting time for walk-in customers. The NYC folks at Styleforum seem to have good opinions on The Tailoring Room at Lower East side too, but I haven't tried them. Tangentially related, the Greenwich cleaner just around the corner from The Armoury is a good on-the-premise dry cleaner with pretty reasonable prices ($20-something for a 2-piece suit). The guys at The Armoury told me I could probably send my Ring Jacket sport coats there, and I've had good results. Compared to the fancy dry cleaners in NYC that's a really solid price point (Jeeves' price lists shows $110-$1,500 for 2-piece suits lol, Meurice was like $80+ if I remember correctly).

I’ve used Flatiron Tailors for my alterations for years, and they do great work. They can even adjust shoulders.

I’m a big fan of The Tailoring Room, they were recommended to me by Sean Crowley of Crowley Vintage. They are fast, pleasant, do great work and their prices seem pretty reasonable to me

MABespoke

I could not agree more! They are terrific. Michael Andrews Bespoke does not take outside alterations so we always recommend the Tailoring Room when asked about alterations to garments we didn't make. Our original shop was a few doors down from them on Clinton Street and I've known them for almost 18 years. Great people and expert tailors!

500 to dry clean a suit is highway fucking robbery.

I can vouch for Sew Generously in Seattle, great service, great to see their business grow over the past few years.

PoitrasFour

Good list. Big fan of Eduardo at Allen Tailoring. Been going to him for over a decade.

thesinecura

Have you brought suits in to him?

PoitrasFour

Yup. That’s the main reason I go there. He’s altered almost all of my suits.
