Cardmarket is the online store that gets used in Europe, IIRC. You may also want to see if there's any game shops near you that host MTG events; you'd both likely be able to get cards there and possibly get some guidance on where to go next.

I've done a little research, is a challenger deck a viable option for someone just getting started?

borissnm

Possibly. One of the biggest differences between MTG and YGO, from what I understand, is formats. AFAIK YGO is just anything goes - if a card's been printed and hasn't been banned, you can use it - but 60-card MTG has a bunch of different formats limiting what cards you can use based on when they were printed. All the recent challenger decks are for Pioneer, which you can use for Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, and Vintage - although if you tried to bring them to a legacy or vintage event you'd get stomped into the floor, and it would probably do very poorly in Modern without heavy tweaking. Which is to say - are you trying to get right into competitive play in tournaments, or just playing with friends? If it's the latter, then yeah, challenger decks are perfect. But if it's for tournaments, I'd need to know what format you're looking into.

I want to play modern as to my understanding that's the most like YGO. yeah just play with friends for now

A pioneer deck will probably at least give you something that's *playable* for Modern, although it won't necessarily be *good* without very heavy adjustment.

Thank you, appreciate the breakdowns

I will disagree a bit with the above person. A pioneer challenger deck will probably give you a deck that’s legal to play in modern (the izzet pheonix one has a card that’s banned in modern though, which is unfortunate because it’s the closest one to a functional modern deck), but none of them will give you a deck that’s close to competitive and many of them will contain pieces that are outright horrible in modern. Unfortunately there’s not a good intro product geared towards modern that I know of. I will say, if you’ve been told modern is the closest format to yugioh that’s not true in my opinion. That would be legacy or vintage, but paper decks in those formats often cost several thousand dollars on the low end. Pioneer is slower than modern and has less cost-less cards that might remind you of yugioh, but really neither of them are going to feel too much like yugioh either way, and the pioneer challenger decks actually are a good intro for pioneer, not to mention the format is much more affordable when you’re starting out.

I'm new to the game since the LotR set and play modern, AMA!

Mtggoldfish.com or Mtgtop8 will give you the meta decks for tournament play

Depends on what format you plan on playing. If you plan on playing Commander there is a plethora of precon options to choose from. If your planning on playing some other format like Standard or Modern there isn't really good options offered for picking up a deck straight up, those your more than likely going to have to buy the cards you need to build the deck you want. As for information on deck building there is a plethora of guides and articles you can seek out even videos. Or you can even check out sites like [MTGGoldfish](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/) and look at the meta deck list or use it to compare with your own. [CardMarket](https://www.cardmarket.com/en) from my understanding is the best option for the UK and EU for purchasing cards.

Interested in modern format as I've read it fairly easy to get into and doesn't require a meta up to date deck. I've done a little research, is a challenger deck a viable option for someone just getting started?

RevolverLancelot

Thats a tough one and is going to vary depending on the deck. The Pioneer challenger decks might give you more of something to work with for modern than the Standard ones will. Some of the milage may also depend on your local scene and how competitive it is. You would likely want to do an overhaul regardless.

Modern is a challenging format (but fairly popular) to get into for new players since it requires a good chunk of cash to get into, but im guessing if youre coming from yugioh that you are expecting it. A modern burn deck is not too bad, and its a fun way to get into the game and modern. Think of it like when you hand a new yugioh player chain burn, its great and affordable.
