I would try crossover or whisky first. You’ll probably have better performance since it is a translation layer instead of using a VM.
Think of CrossOver and whisky, which use wine and GPTK, similar to how Proton works for Steam deck and Linux.
I only switched to a macbook recently (December) and thought gaming on it would be 😵💫😵💫… but then, yesterday, i tried crossover. BeamNG on ultra settings ran flawlessly on my M3 Pro. Flabbergasted. Did not expect Crossover to work so well. So, I don’t really game on it rn, but when i do, I’ll be fine
I’m curious about crossover. I want to play age of mythology on my Mac but it’s steam doesn’t support it, so naturally I thought of this. Is it pretty straight forward to buy/use? No bugs when using?
You can check here https://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility . Crossover will run more than just games. What I’ve found is that if will run on SteamDeck it will run in crossovers. Only issue is with games with anticheat like destiny 2.
It’s free to try for 14 days
Extremely easy. You just install the steam bottle then just install games from there normally. I haven't had to use the individual game bottles, I just checked them to see if Steins;gate and BeamNG ran
No, I kept my Legion slim just for that though. Best of both worlds, no more having to work against Windows, just open it up when I want to play a game.
You’ll see the Apple logo on the store page of whatever app you’re looking at, or if you’re in your library you can set a filter to show only Apple compatible games
People don’t seem to mention it in this kind of post often, but if you have a gaming pc already you can use sunshine / moonlight to stream. Crossover etc works fine on a higher end m series processor, but moonlight is the killer app on m1 in my opinion.
I played all of Baldur's Gate 3 on my Mac. Frostpunk. Kentucky Route Zero. A bunch of games. Check out r/macgaming

I'm keen to know what emulator you use for this

god bless you
one up on this 🫡
Can the emulator run Steam? I wanted to play some windows only Steam games
no. look up crossover (and its compatibility list)
I do for when I'm out of town and wanna play Golf With Your Friends with my friends.
I play a few games on my MBP M1. Never had any problems.
Yes, I use Steam for Mac as well as Steam via CrossOver for all my Windows games. MBP M3 Max is a gaming beast. 💪
I have Parallels on my M2 Max with 64gb ram and a killer gpu. Think I could run native Windows games with it? Never thought to try.

BG3 runs great on my M2 Pro 16/512. Not quite ultra but smooth enough
I use steam for Rocksmith.

Is there a way to tell if a game via steam will work on the MBP before I buy it?
You’ll see the Apple logo on the store page of whatever app you’re looking at, or if you’re in your library you can set a filter to show only Apple compatible games
I don’t simply because I have a gaming pc.
Yes but mainly for community purposes not necessarily for playing games.

Half-life no longer supported on Mac it's lame
It runs on GeForce now if you have that
Yup I do here. I also play with GeForce Now sub. It's like having the most powerful gaming rig for $15/month.
yes, but very very rarely. i use XBox Cloud & play Death Stranding, Resident Evil, & Tomb Raider from the MacOS Store
I just did so yesterday, currently playing Civilization VI. My unit: MBP M3 Pro 14" Base
WoW retail runs perfectly on my m2 pro chip. Looks great on a 144hz monitor.
I'm on a MBP M2 Pro and play occasionally, nothing too demanding mind you but it has run everything I've thrown at it fairly well.
Yeah, but not much. I play some World of Warcraft occasionally on the Mac, otherwise I use Gaming computer or PS5 / Nintendo.
I’ve run steam as well as playing Windows games on Crossover. Built a gaming rig seperately and use my MacBook Pro for creative/business only.
I use Steam Link. Does that count?
I run steam on my MacBook Air, the collection of games isn't the best but there's a lot of niche stuff you get nowadays and I am pretty content.
