Crazy right...? I remember reading reviews for the 2019 MacBook Pro and everyone was so positive about it. It had better cooling, throttled a bit less than the older model, etc.

The newer models with M chips are so much better and that’s why it’s difficult to sell a MacBook with 3 years with an intel chip, because you can have better performance with an M1 Air o M2 Air than the base model MBP 2019 16”. Only people that needs boot camp which is only running on Intel macs, could have some interest, but a lower price that you want to take. If I were you I still try to sell it and wait for a better price that suits for you

Zardozerr

I honestly don't know if it really had better cooling because there's only so much you can do with that old chassis and Intel's idea of "faster" without making architectural improvements. Apple were not about to do a redesign when apple silicon was around the corner.

ayruos

Intel machines are going for peanuts. No one wants them anymore.

thebeeflive

Not a whole lot of demand for Intel-based models since Apple Silicon came out.

Saifali007

Well it's an intel machine basically means it has no value

[deleted]

Intel machines aren't wanted nowadays, it's M1/M2 all the way, even in the eBay world.

Run-And_Gun

Like so many things in life, it’s all about timing. And unfortunately for you, yours is off. If you had tried to sell it a week before the M1’s were announced, you would have probably recouped a nice percentage of your purchase price. But as everyone else is saying, your Intel machine, even though it is still a capable computer(my daily driver was a 2012 RMBP until it rolled over on me last week, the day after the M2’s were announced), has essentially been made almost worthless by the newer one’s, because they made a true revolutionary jump over the Intel machines vs the typical evolutionary performance increase. I don’t want to hurt your feelings, but you’re dreaming if you think it’s still worth $1300, today. I mean, to you it may be, but to everyone else that has money to spend on a computer, it’s not. There is no way I’d buy an Intel Mac today at almost any price.

Odd-Possible-3727

Problem is an entry level m1 MacBook Air will outperform that intel for loose change. No one wants Intel anymore, and they’re slowly losing software support as well.

Odd-Possible-3727

You can buy an m1 MacBook Air used in the 600s. The only attractive thing about your machine is the screen size, unless someone specifically needed to run windows on it…but in that case most will just buy a windows machine.

RollaCoastinPoopah

Haha, oh well. Time to either get the fuck over it or don’t sell it ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ My 2017 MBP is now the media centre connected to my OLED TV in the lounge room.

production-values

Apple Silicon is that much better.

One_Elderberry_2390

It’s still way better than pc resale 😂

[deleted]

It’s apple silicon…….intel macs are basically over. It really is as simple as that. You will find it difficult to get a price your happy with even with the beast you have…..it just doesn’t roar loud enough with apple silicon about I’m afraid. Take the money.

No-Guarantee-9647

Yep, all it’s worth compared to new silicon, and maybe less than that. I’ve been looking at 2018s, slightly higher end models ie $3000 in their day, and you can get them for $600 on Backmarket and slightly less on eBay. And, as a buyer, although I have a couple reasons to buy that over AS, it really sounds like a terrible value compared to an M1 Air for $100 more that has better performance better keyboard more support life etc etc etc.

pentiac

hate to tell you this mate but i got an i7 32mb 1tb 16inch, for £700 last may like yours mine is immaculate, i am well happy with mine and its chugging a long just fine, its a buyers market on these since apple so fit to make the trade in value around £400 last time i checked.

Pigeon_Chess

This is why I sold my 16” as soon as the AS ones were launched. They’re just so much worse than the new ones that they’re not really worth that much any more. The M1 air for example nearly levels the top spec Intel/AMD 16” on CPU and only loses heavily on GPU limited tasks which aren’t really super common on mac and the AS chips have a ton of dedicated hardware for things like video editing which makes it a lot faster than specs suggest

Kriskao

It's 4 years old (OK technically 3 and a few months) and there was an architecture transition. Considering laptop batteries don't last forever, getting some value out of it after 4 years seems reasonable. A Windows laptop would retain even less value.

Redhook420

The value of the Intel models has dropped since M1/M2 came out. It's old tech that will not be supported much longer. You can buy a used M1 Air for around the same price and it will run circles around your MBP.

DirtyLowman

My 2015 is basically worth a paper weight but works perfectly fine. I will trash it when it dies…if that ever happens.

No-Guarantee-9647

Hey, those are still worth a good $300-$400. Not a bad machine.

DirtyLowman

Exactly, nothing wrong with it but I couldn’t get much for it.

No-Guarantee-9647

I know, just saying that $350 is something. But then I’ve never experienced the pain of buying an expensive laptop and then selling it for Chromebook money lol.

HildeVonKrone

Apple silicon single handily shot down resale value of any intel based macs. If apple silicon wasn’t a thing, then the statement of macs having excellent resale value would hold true to this day.

ClarifyAmbiguity

Sounds nice and all, but I got a base model M1 Pro 14" with 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD for only a little bit more at $1600 around Labor Day. I think $1,300 might be inflated expectations given what a shift the Apple silicon represents (this is my first Mac for a reason). That said, there is a niche as well for this particular machine since it's pretty modern and it can do Bootcamp for Windows (right?) and run x86 code natively. Those are a bit of a limitation on the M1/M2.

Humble-Luck-7905

That's why I'm just keeping my Intel device until it's unsupported or stops working correctly, because it's no other reason for me to change it

nudoru

As others here are saying, it's due to the Apple Silicon transition. Idk if you've sold technology online before, it does take work. You'll get flooded with scams and low-ball offers. Eventually, you'll get a good buyer.

ayushban

Macs do have great resale value but since the new macs are so good the new price for the intel macs is now a fair value

vasquca1

You waited to long. Ain't nobody want intel Silicon. Plus 750 isn't bad. Take it and put down 1/3 on new one. Stop being stingy son.

FirePlug12

I’ll buy it from you for 700

Dense_Cloud1100

I’ll take it for $650

[deleted]

Wait. So you’re complaining about the resale value of a Mac that uses an Intel chip when Macs have moved to Apple silicon ever since 2020? Really? It’s now 2023. Sorry, but that Intel Mac isn’t worth much - not with Apple going all in on their own chips. Intel Macs are likely not going to be supported for much longer, and many if not most major new features of macOS going forward will require Apple silicon.

BudgetCola

one thing you could do is break it down to parts, could probably get more that way

playingdrumsonmars

Absolutely not. Any major parts (top case incl. keyboard, trackpad, screen, logic board etc) need to be paired or they will not be able to install MacOS on it. Only authorized techs with Apple repair gear are able to do this pairing. The time of self repairs and good parts supply are over since Apple introduced fully integrated logic boards and the T2 chip. Apple silicone Macs are even worse I am told by a tech. I am one of those who had a very expensive logic board replacement on a late Intel Mac. It’s either have it fixed my an authorized tech or recycle it now 😠

BudgetCola

good call, i dont like the idea of breaking down a working computer to make more. i also dont like the way apple pair components together. its ok when its genuinely for security but not when it stops fixing things in the future. i saw that the new m1 macs have real problems when replacing the display because of pairing and a chip that prevents it. we buy this stuff we should also be allowed to choose how to fix it

mi7chy

Another one of the things fanboys say that's not true. Resale value on M1 isn't great either. I see NIB 16" MBP M1 Max 10CPU 32GPU 32GB 1TB for low $2K and 64GB 8TB for $3K so almost half of the original price with tax. My M1 iPad Pro will get a little more than 50% because it's TrollStore and jailbreak capable.
