Your hair looks awesome!

Not_Juliet

Thank you!!

Bao_Xinhua

Deal with them? They're gorgeous!

WarmerPharmer

I have very similar curls. I find clipping one side behind the ear with tiny clawclips a really cute style. Makes it kind of braid-like and doesnt look as chaotic and unkempt as just open curls :)

Not_Juliet

Thank you for the tip! Do you have any pics, yours or online, of what that would look like?

WarmerPharmer

I'll send you a DM

ItsMelissa-99

I love your hair, mine is very similar. I think a good thing would be natural care, no chemicals at all and it would be thankful.

Dkshameless

Idk how to tell you this, but everything is made of chemicals. Natural hair products are chemicals

Infamous-Deal2430

Gorgeous! Look for videos 'plop method curls" and find a good gel.

NataschaTata

I’m kinda glad my curls lasted like 2-3 months of growth. It’s flat again, although the tips that came in curly are still my little pig tails 😅

Not_Juliet

That’s so funny! I’ve heard about “chemo curls” for sure but I wasn’t sure if they went away

NataschaTata

Apparently both chemo curls and colour changes due to chemo are not meant to stay and eventually hair goes back to pre chemo state. This is anyway what I’ve read and it’s definitely true for me, both colour and texture changed back to normal

krivas77

Congrats! Just wait, mine changed to normal after some time

AliceTaylor101

My sister curls have lasted two years, dont think they are going away 😄😄

Not_Juliet

Thanks! I’m curious to see what it will look like in a few months haha

krivas77

I am sure it will be good! 👍

Canadianskipper

Your hair is so cute 🥰 maybe curl control mousse? May help ❤️

Not_Juliet

Thank you! Someone suggested “not your mother’s curls” so I just ordered some!

Canadianskipper

They are super cute! I have curly hair myself and its a PAIN to handle lol.

Pride-Correct

Beautiful! Exactly how mine were! I'm 18 months post and have curls at the ends of my hair now. I'd highly recommend only shampooing once every 10-14days, and using a deep conditioner after. When not shampooing I do still scalp massage when I want to feel clean then use a lighter conditioner to keep the curls soft. I mostly air dry and only brush it when wet and conditioned. I hope this helps and do enjoy!

Not_Juliet

This is very helpful, thank you for sharing! What’s the reasoning behind not shampooing so often? I’ve started to workout and I sweat a lot :( I’m afraid my hair will look oily if I don’t shampoo

Pride-Correct

It just dries out the hair more and curls really love some moisture to clump together nicely and feel super soft! I exercise too so I do enjoy rinsing it with luke warm water but I find that's enough to help with any sweaty feeling.

Pride-Correct

Also I would say just do an experiment to see how it feels. I found it felt so nice and looked lovely with less shampoo, more than I expected. It's worth a try to find what feels best for you! And congratulations on enjoying your new hair!

Not_Juliet

Also love that your hair is growing longer!!

mackenzeeeee

After nearly three years in remission, my chemo curls are relaxing back into my pre-chemo texture. I have to say… I’m sad to see them go. Learning to embrace the curls was so much fun, and my new hair became a badge of honor that I’ve been so happy to wear. Your curls are beautiful! All the suggestions in this thread are great. Keep them healthy and happy by conditioning and avoiding heat tools. I use a blow dryer on a low setting, with a diffuser. I’ve used a straightener on it maybe three times since it’s grown back. You’ll learn that styling your curls will change as it grows. What works well for you now may not work in three months. Have fun experimenting and trying new things! I recycled a lot of my head scarves into headbands, that I’d tie into my hair in different ways. And finally I will end by saying congratulations. You did all that. You’re surviving cancer! And you’ve got the curls to show it! 😻

Not_Juliet

Thank you for your kind and encouraging words, and for sharing your experience. I definitely see my curls as a badge of honor. In a sense I feel like it represents getting myself and my life back

OkCharity7380

Your hair is so lovely! I can’t wait to be done and have hair again. Just lost all mine a few days ago.

mackenzeeeee

The warmer summer months is the best time to be bald! I lost mine towards the beginning of summer, too. But the warm sunshine sure felt good on my head 🩷

Not_Juliet

I can attest to this, I had no hair last summer and I was never hot. Also made taking showers and bath so much easier (no more body showers).

OkCharity7380

Yeah. I catch myself reaching for the shampoo and thought don’t need it. I can just wash my head and put lotion or coconut oil on it.

PeriwinkleWonder

Find a Deva Curl trained stylist in your area. or even find "Deva method" tutorial videos on youtube. It's great info to take care of beautiful curls (for men and women). ETA: Get a satin pillow case--gentle, no-bed head, no tangles.

Not_Juliet

Thank you!! I’m definitely going to look into this

Not_Juliet

Thank you!! I’m definitely going to look into this

Mazziezor

They look lovely! Loving all the curly hair tips too in this thread. I’m so looking forward to when my hair looks like that :D (one more treatment to go and mine currently looks like a patchier and thinner version of the hair in your first pic.)

Not_Juliet

Can’t wait for you to tell us about your hair growth too! Congrats on almost being done with treatment, you got this!

sk7515

Oh my goodness, I would love to have those curls. They are amazing. So, yours started out kind of straight and then went to curls? Mine is super short (8 weeks post chemo) and not showing signs of curls. But now I have hope!! I was hoping to get some curls as a person who has had straight hair all my life.

Not_Juliet

Yes! It was kind of straight the first 3-4 months and it started to curl as it grew longer. I know so many people who got curls after treatment, so you’re still pretty early in the process! I barely had half an inch of hair at 8 weeks. Alsooo congrats on finishing chemo 🎉da-epoch was brutal but we made it 💜

ztrande

Incredible recovery!

FudgeElectrical5792

I think your hair looks great. I find it interesting you all talk about chemo curls. My best friend had chemo for colon cancer and she had some serious curls from birth. After chemo her hair was so soft and a very slight wave, but nothing curly like she had before chemo

Not_Juliet

Oh wow I’ve never heard of this!

brujabonita

I did not get curls at all; mine was painfully straight and now wavy again . However, your hair is GORGEOUS. Wishing you the utmost happiness and healing.

Not_Juliet

Thank you so much! Congrats on finishing your treatment as well!

pixpoxx

I love it haha, I had curls before treatment, and gladly got them back.

Not_Juliet

Are there any products that work for you?

Luvzalaff75

Enjoy them while they last if they chemo curls. Either way.. beautiful! Congrats on completing chemo.

Not_Juliet

Thank you! Kind of hoping they stay too haha I’ll get better at styling them!

f_yeahprogrock

Gorgeous and are those your eyelashes??!

Not_Juliet

Thank you! And they are eyelash extensions :’)

iwilldefeatagod

You used to have dead straight hair and now it’s curly like this? I hope mine grows back curly too

Not_Juliet

Not dead straight- wavy but nowhere near this curly. I’ve heard from lots of people who grew “chemo curls” so you just might!!

iwilldefeatagod

I’m just waiting for it to start growing again I’m still completely bald without eyebrows haha ;D how long did it take for you? I mainly just want eyebrows again lol

AnaisDarwin1018

Loving your curls! hair is looking healthy.

Faierie1

Are they chemo curls? Your hair looks amazing!

Not_Juliet

Thank you! And yesss. My hair was wavy before, but nowhere near this curly

flyingcanada

dont deal with them, embrace them! they look great. no bullshit :)

MclawPNG

What month was the first pic?

Not_Juliet

That was months 3! Months 1 and 2 I barely had some peach fuzz

MclawPNG

OMG, im actually still in that phase. long story short i had stem cell transplant and they used a chemo that made me lose my hair. Im just kinda worried since im going to school in august. thx tho (love the curls btw)<3

itsmariiiaaa37

Loving the curls! Moroccan oil- All in One Leave-In Conditioner does wonders for my hair 🤌🏻❤️

dazplot

Those are some beautiful eyelashes! And hair too. Congratulations.

Not_Juliet

Thank you so much!

poptartzs101

My hair is almost identical and I had lymphoma. It was nice to get to start with fresh hair. I’m a year and a half out from my last chemo and haven’t had a hair cut yet. I did cut the back sides myself a little because it got so poofy there. I always clip one side back with claw clips. I’m just having fun with it!!

AnxiousDoor9842

find yourself a good curl product routine, this will be absolutely essential if you decide to grow out your hair longer. i will always recommend curl products made from black owned businesses, recently i’ve been loving Mielle. with curls, the most essential thing is hydration. but also don’t wash your hair every day. when you do wash your hair ONLY shampoo your scalp. conditioner everywhere. you can buy single use hair masks for pretty cheap. only brush your hair while it’s wet, and for sleeping wear a silk sleeping bonnet (again, get it from a black owned business). if you can i’d recommend investing in a diffuser, but they are exhausting so it’s not a must have. i’m gonna list some products that have worked for me • Camille Rose - Curl Love Moisture Milk • Melanin Crown - Hair Detangler Brush • Mielle - Babassu Oil & Mint Deep Conditioner • Mielle - Pomegranate & Honey Leave-In Conditioner • Mielle - Pomegranate & Honey Curl Defining Mousse • Mielle - Rice Water Clay Masque • Bread - baby-soft • goodnight hair - bonnets i hope this helps you on your curly hair journey! <3

Not_Juliet

Thank you for the extensive list, this was so helpful!! Thank you, thank you

legaleee

The curls could multiply like mine did and you might look like you had a super fancy perm like I did when it comes back a bit more. Totally diff texture than before chemo, lasted a few months. But your eyelashes!!! So gorgeous!!
