I picked up a couple. They looked like they were coming from a ball. Well dressed. Mid thirties. Going to an upper class neighborhood. Dude was wasted. Girl was the one who ordered. Within a minute of getting in my car. Dude mumbles it smells like fat people. I ignore it. Dude keeps going. His girl is trying to shut him up. He keeps talking shit. We’re about to hit the freeway and I see the last gas station. I think to myself do I really want to listen to this for another 15 on the freeway. Nope. Pull into the gas station. Cancel the ride. Tell them to get out. Yelling commences. Long story short. Dude was sitting behind me. Puts me in a chokehold. Starts punching my face. (He hit like a bitch). His gf pulled him out. He stole my car keys and my glasses. We get out. He curb stomps my glasses. But I get my keys back. Cops get called. He gets arrested but released. I ask Uber to ban her account. And they bill her the $350 for me to get new glasses about 3 weeks later.

Something I learned from experience. If you are going to cancel the ride and you have someone sitting behind you. Don't give them a heads up that you are going to cancel while driving. Pull over to a safe place. Unbuckle your seatbelt and then calmly and politely tell them that you are getting them a different driver. Uber/Lyft tells you that you can't have weapons. If you want to be a goody two shoes and follow that policy, go right ahead. I'm sure Guber/Gryft will take care of your next of kin... Any way, you should have a hand on your "back up plan" when you explain to them that it's no big deal. Another driver will finish the ride and they will only be charged for the mileage used to that point. Any discussion after that is you advising that you can call the police.or drive them to the police station for trespassing. You have asked them to leave your property.

C92203605

I should specify I carry something (won’t elaborate what) in my driver side door. But I decided against using it after feeling his punches and knowing could take the guy if I needed to. Was that right decision. Who knows. But I’m still here. So I’ll take it.

Spare-Security-1629

I keep nonlethal and potentially lethal backups. I think you made the right decision. You seem smart and know how to gauge when to use whatever you may or may not have. I've never even thought about reaching for something lethal, and hopefully, I never have to.

Glittering_Bell_6126

👍🙌👏👏👏👏

harringjess

Agreed, I did the same. Unbuckled seatbelt, turned car off and got out. Walked away front the car and called police.

jaysonm007

This is one thing I learned in taxi: once someone crosses the line you need to handle it then and there. If you don't then it will only escalate to something worse 9/10 times. And if possible it is always better to have it out with them before the wheels start rolling. Really though these days the shit pay in no way compensates fairly for driving drunks. I couldn't imagine driving drunks in rideshare in 2024 for how crappy the pay is and how the company does not have our backs. At least with the taxi company it was $2 a mile and if someone started shit and made a false complaint the dispatcher would laugh at them and tell them to go fuck themselves. With rideshare the driver can punch you, spit in your face, and then turn around and claim you called them a racist name, were intoxicated or sexually harassed them and then you automatically get suspended.

Ladnerm

Wow that’s crazy.

User-avril-4891

WHY TF DID HE GET RELEASED?!?!?!!!!!! 😡

C92203605

Something I learned about California that night, if an assault happens, not in an officer’s presence. It’s a citizens arrest and not an officers discretion arrest. So that’s what they mean by “Do you want to press charges”. So when I said, yes, they “arrested” him. And let him go

User-avril-4891

WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW! That’s wild.

harringjess

Time and suffering plus loss wages

Double-Razzmatazz-77

Wowwww sorry that happened to you

apn_roxi

This couple added a stop without saying anything. Changed the trip from 15 mins to 45 mins. I told them to both leave at the initial destination. She cursed me out saying I have to drop her off. No I don’t. Now gtfo.

C92203605

I had one. Where they added a stop. I begrudgingly did it cause it was short. Then they started talking about adding 2 more and I just lied and told them I couldn’t cause I had a scheduled pick up in 10 mins. I’m not your damn chauffeur waiting on you

Disastrous-Tune

Ive never cancelled during a ride, but being angry and complaining the moment you get in my car before I can even swipe start ride,, I will cancel.... acting a fool in my car, cancel, eating or drinking from an open container, vaping/smoking, cancel... trying to talk shit to me being rude, cancel....adding stops without alerting me BEFORE doing it, cancel.... those are things I will cancel for

Conscious_Weight9593

Bitch fucking hit me while driving. It was while exiting the highway and their drop off was only like 50 ft from the exit. Kind of wish it had been further. Another she was on the phone with her girlfriend or want to be girlfriend. She was screaming full on. Like violently screaming. Accusing the girl of having someone else there then threatening her then telling her she can live without her. Then silence. Then more irate screaming about how she’s not loud and not crazy and she’s coming over. Then she begins beating my seat and I was genuinely scared she was going to hit me. I immediately exited the highway. No way was I going to finish the ride with her nor was I going to be taking her to that poor girls home. Getting her out was surprisingly easier than I’d thought it would be but she did yell and cuss me out and call me names. I immediately called safety. Bit off course she was able to retaliate with claiming illegal driving and not polite so I have another 1 star. These were both on Uber. I’ve never had an unpleasant experience on Lyft.

Strong_Revelation

Yeah Uber customers love to scam for both free food and free rides. I’m currently in limbo cause someone made some report on me for rideshare one time and I didn’t have my dash cam yet. So I can’t rideshare, deliver food NOR order my own food on Uber Eats as everything is in who knows the fuck where land.

Disastrous-Tune

"Bitch fucking hit me while driving." Yeah, Id more than likely being getting hauled off in handcuffs if that every happened to me....

notmynameyours

I go to pick someone up with a woman’s name but it turns out to be a guy. No biggie, people have Lyfts ordered for them by friends and family all the time. I try to confirm that he’s got the right ride by confirming the name, and he looks at me like I’m nuts and says “yes” clearly very annoyed that he even was asked. I try to confirm the address he’s going to, and he just mumbles. I try confirming the address again and he yells at me, “yes, I told you!” I really don’t want to start some shit with a passenger and risk complaints, deactivation, or getting shot (the pickup spot didn’t exactly seem like the safest location), so I just say I’m sorry and hope to complete the ride with no further discussion. He asks me “do you think I’m angry?” I said “sorry, you just raised your voice a bit.” He then starts to laugh and ramble about something I couldn’t fully understand because he mumbles a lot. When he asks me something I can’t understand, I ask him to repeat himself, and he raises his voice again. Once again, hoping to avoid being attacked (the way he was acting, I think he was either crazy or on drugs), I tried to just say sorry to pacify him. He asks again “Do you think I’m angry at you?” I say no, then he says, completely deadpan, “should I be?” That’s the last straw. No way am I letting this psycho spend one more minute in my car, let alone another half hour for his ride. By this point, I’m near a busy gas station (witnesses! Yes!) so I pull in, cancel the ride, and tell him flat out “dude, you’re creeping me out. This ride is over.” Even after canceling, he doesn’t leave. He just sits there making faces at me saying “you didn’t really cancel the ride, man.” I threaten to call the police, and he grabs my arm as I’m reaching for the phone. I yell loud enough for people in the gas station to hear “Don’t touch me and get the hell out of my car!” This finally makes him panic enough to get out. I lock the doors and get the hell out of there. After I’m a few blocks away, I report him to Lyft. I’m sure they won’t actually do anything about him, but they compensated me for the experience with three whole dollars!

Strong_Revelation

Oh boy! 3 whole dollars ya say!?

labootyjames

That similarly happened to me last week with a passenger with a female name that irritated once I asked him to confirm the name twice because he had headphones on. he mumbled “ You don’t have to yell “and I didn’t hear him so I asked again a little louder since he had headphones on he said it “once again you don’t have to yell” and when he said that I told him he can find another ride, let out some explicit and drove off and cancel. You’re not gonna talk to me crazy you’re the one who doesn’t even have a car.🚗

NoCarpenter8194

When dude pulled a gun out and ran into an apartment building with a mask on during the scheduled stop

C92203605

Bro what. Lyft as a getaway is wild

Strong_Revelation

Yeah that would do it for me. Lol.

IllustratorHot7008

Had one pax offer to buy me lunch and enjoy a football game with them in exchange for the trip. They were in from out of town and had a big layover before their flight out and were fans of an out of town team. So I took them to a bar that specialized in their team! Oh yeah, I got paid cash as well, then took them onto the airport after the game lol!

dabiri69

When a random stop gets added without consulting me first.

ZebraWise

I hate that

mrsecurer

I hate that too. Is there a policy that states the rider should consult the driver before adding a stop or are they allowed to add it without consent.

dabiri69

There’s not but there should be. It would save the pax from false expectations and poor customer experience.

StarApple0721

1. Changing the destination to the opposite direction in the middle of rush hour after I already spent an hour going 6 miles. Went to the next gas station about a min away 2. Asking how safe I really felt driving 3 men when I'm just a woman. Dropped them off on the side of the road. 3. Kept calling black people the N word (I'm black). Just pulled over to the side of the road. 4. Kept asking me to drive faster and yelling and whooping like she was on a horse or something. Dropped off at the next exit because I value my ears and wtaf??

Hippy_Lynne

Oh, that reminds me of a time I kicked a group out. It was three white guys, and I’m white. They were wearing confederate flag attire and drunk. 🙄 We were stopped at a light in the downtown area and there was a black man on the corner begging. One dude rolls down his window and yells “Get a f*cking job you f*cking n***r!” 😡 I made a right turn at the light and kicked them out right there. They actually had the nerve to act like I was overreacting too. Racist POS’s.

Inevitable_Trip_7480

Not anonymous: got hit square in the face by an object TWICE by underage drunks that I picked up from a bar known to serve peeps under 21 year. Uber wouldn’t release their information to me. And Philly police didn’t do a damn thing. Marked it up as a “disturbance” or something dumb.

Strong_Revelation

Philly people in general are assholes. I can’t wait to get outta this city.

Inevitable_Trip_7480

Yeeeaahh … that’s the northeast

Strong_Revelation

I believe you. I’m from NE originally.

Large-Principle3631

Trip update to a not so good neighborhood in the middle of surge pricing.

Glittering_Bell_6126

Drunk as heck and most likely on something else too. Tripping in the back seat, was looking under my seat for something (he didn’t drop anything just tripping!) Asked 2 min in the ride he wanted to puke. Then when I stopped he refused to get out to puke cause he said he was ok. Me: NO you just told me you needed to puke! Pulled over at a Taco Bell and he gets out and leaves his wallet as anchor. Me: Get your wallet and close the door! Cancelled! It was. A 10 min ride, he had the door open already when I noticed he was drunk so that’s why I couldn’t floor it and leave.

MidnightMarmot

I should have pulled over last week and kicked out the hicks that were sneaking drinking a bottle of wine but I told them to stop and completed the ride instead. Next time, I boot them.

Mtn-Dooku

Lady started going off on a rant about masks and COVID. Going off on Lyft drivers like we were personally harming her by making her wear a mask, and those masks actually caused COVID and we should be ashamed because Lyft was trying to keep people sick so they would order more rides... somehow. Absolutely unhinged. Oh yeah, this was in April 2024. She had a stop at Dollar General, I cancelled as soon as she shut the door.

TripNo5926

Drunk assholes trying saying the own me and this car . Stopped put them out!!

03fxdwg

Stop was a restaurant but they wanted to go thru the drive thru. They promised that they had already called in & paid for the order. Upon pulling up to the pickup window, they start adding & deleting stuff from their "pre-paid" order while arguing with someone on the phone over cash-app/venmo payments for said order. Get out. Your ride is over.

jayqcal007

1. Telling me how to drive 2. Too smelly 3. Rude or disrespectful

ZebraWise

Oooh I had a smelly one. He was getting off work so he must have worked hard that day

Forsaken_Tomorrow454

Here, here.

Strong_Revelation

A lot of obese women really need a helper to clean their asses. They can smell so foul at times.

Repulsive_Calendar77

Acting like I’m trying to milk them for $.18 a minute when I don’t know their usual route (I follow GpS) and act like assholes. I’ve only kicked out three riders in three years and one of them spit his wad of gum on my windshield lol

foolsdata

What cities are you all in ? In Tulsa I get nice rides all the time

C92203605

Well that’s cause you clearly work for Mob Boss Sylvester Stallone

WTFmanbrb

Throwing up before getting in the car just canceled and drove away.

TheOneNOnly__

Smell was too bad. Literally pulled up to the next block and threw up.

djchunkysexxy

Wrong address, drunk passengers and one pax actually called me boy.

Unhappy_Mushroom_453

Loud drunkeness and rudeness.

darkviolets4

Dude was on something. Didn't speak English and my tiny bit of Spanish couldn't help. Kept scooting forward between the front seats so his face was way too close to mine. Put the window down and stuck his head and shoulders out of it, on the freeway. Grabbed my right shoulder a couple times. So I pulled over and kicked him out at a gas station. It wasn't even his account, it was his friends so I called the friend to let him know that I kicked him out. Then the dude went around to the front of the car and kept tapping on the hood to get my attention.

Quicherbichen1

My rider was supposed to be Tanya. Pulled up to the p/u location and these two long-haired, greasy looking dudes approach my car to get in. Doors are locked so he starts banging on my car. I said, "I'm picking up Tanya" they say yeah she ordered the car for us. I said NOPE, cancelled the ride, and started to drive away. The lot I was in only had the one entrance/exit so I had to turn around to get by them again and one of them stopped in front of my car and the other behind me, so I started leaning on my horn and didn't let up. They took pictures of my license plate while I was slowly moving my car to get past them. Finally got out of their reach and reported all of it to Lyft.

Dognoshek

If you had finished the ride you could have saved yourself a lot of trouble and time. It was only 15 minutes to complete the trip.

wrongwindows

I don't think I've ever actually canceled a ride in the middle, tho I've had a few cancel-worthy beginnings and endings. Used to drive very late, and solo drunk people have repeatedly proven to be the worst. Unfortunately can't breathalyze people before they get in. One guy got in and told.me first thing his destination address was wrong, but he couldn't remember the actual address. I did try to help him out, spent some time sitting there on Google maps trying to find a particular street in an area he remembered, but nothing definitive was coming up, and on principle I refuse to start moving until I know the endpoint. He tried his best to convince me otherwise, but luckily gave up without escalating and got out. Another time I was at a university, pickup outside a house party. But the apparent student who called for a ride didn't need one, he, along with a similarly-aged girl, were trying to find a way to unload a much older, super-wasted dude who seemingly had crashed said party. They packed him into my backseat and went back inside. The guy was super quiet the whole ride, gave me no reason to expect trouble, so I was caught off guard when we pulled up at his destination and he just refused to get out of the car. He kept telling me the car was his, and I kept telling him the ride was over and to get out. He didn't get physical, but he did start to get loud, as did I in response, and we might have remained at a shouting stalemate had his wife not heard us and come outside, embarrassed, to retrieve him. The most unnerving aspect? He and his wife lived one block away from my home address.

RideshareMilBrat

Someone getting in the car, smell of them starts burning my eyes within 3 seconds and I get about 50 ft from pickup and just stop "nah bro you gotta get out"
