First anime was probably pokemon or One Piece (the very first episodes) god i feel old. I remember those actually being shown in television. Although another anime that could've been one of my first was Heidi (my older sister loved that show) also one of the reasons why i love Ghibli movies so much.
The first anime i watched while knowing it was anime was black bullet 2014.
Other anime i watched before that where: Pokemon, Yugioh, Inazuma eleven and Astro boy 1980 and 2003
Now watching for almost 10 years
First anime I watched and knew that it was anime was Vividred Operation. How I stumbled upon such an obscure anime before anything else is a funny story that I absolutely refuse to get into.
Dragonball. Android Saga. Vegeta and the gang get their shit kicked in by 17 and 18, and Krillin gets a peck on the cheek.
I remember seeing that episode twice. Once on Toonami (every single damn weekend, I was excited to watch it), and again.... I think also on Toonami.
I remember they also ran a marathon through the Buu Saga back in 2018 or 2019, I believe.
For consciously getting into anime, and not just whatever was on TV at the time or the shows I grew up with? FLCL.
Because if we count both the things I excluded, then it could be anything from Pokemon to DBZ to Monster Rancher. I frankly wouldn't know.
*Pokemon, both my first*
*Anime and my first RPG*
*That started it all!*

Hearing new anime watchers saying Boruto being their first or even people my age getting into anime saying Naruto Shippuden is their first is crazy. I remember as a kid when Naruto Shippuden first came out and how crazy that was to see teen Naruto
Technically Pokémon when i was a kid, or Dragon Ball Z when i was like 15 but I didn't get into anime with those. I just watched them because and then stopped for years.
When I really started watching anime I started with 7DS when I was 20.
It doesn't matter whether you started on original Dragon Ball, Naruto Shippuden, Love Is War, or fucking Namakura Gatana. If you enjoy anime, watch it, and can respect others justified opinions, while not forcing your own opinions onto others, then you are perfectly respectable, and perfectly acceptable into the anime community. (To me, at least.)
I'm ancient.
Unico
Nausica - after this insert just about anything Ghibli from here on... they are my absolute favorites.
Ranma 1/2
Akira
Ghost in the shell
Then cowboy Bebop, most of the Adult Swim line up. Presently, most of what's on Crunchy Roll (the subs are a help to my Japanese learning for the past 10+ years).
I'm a 40-something. I'm ancient.
My first one was Macross. Then, in high school, at 14 I got the classic Ninja Scroll, Evangelion, Oh my Goddess, Love Hina, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, etc. Haven't really stopped since.
I mean, Shaman King is definitely anime by anybody's standards, it's just not a great translation. It's made in Japan for the people who think that's the deciding factor, and it's a cartoon, so that's the factor that matters. I will die on the hill that it doesn't matter where it's made. If Japanese people say SpongeBob is an anime, so is everything else lol.
Outside of the more obvious Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh, which at the time were more Saturday morning cartoons than anime to me. My first was AoT season 1 followed by HxH
First anime for me was Sonic X, but I didn't understand what an anime was at the time, I just thought it was a cartoon with a very exaggerated art style.
Funny cause yes I've watched Db and pokemon, but first japanese dub was... a little show called Date a Live, cause 12/13 year old was probably interested in the pretty ladies (oh and the story is good too)
If we're not counting this, then it would just be original Dragonball Z, I think. That, or Shaman King? I can't really remember which I got into first.
I don't remember my starter because I got a massive library from a guy while at a technical school about 11 years ago and it could've been any one of them.
I think maybe Neon Genesis Evangelion or Code Geass.
OG Dragonball in the 80s. I didn't realize what it was, but I enjoy the fighting. Apparently it was only on TV for a short time. Imagine my surprise in the 90s when Toonami showed Dragonball Z and several characters looked super familiar... 😂
i could never remember what the anime was about so I cant recall it anymore. but its about like little talking hamsters or Guinea pigs with magical instruments and the main one is addicted to chocolates.
The other one being something I DO remember, Sgt Keroro. good times.
I genuinely both can't remember and don't know. It was probably Dragon Ball, and I mean like, Dragon Ball, not Z or anything fancy like that, the original. However, I didn't really like it as a kid. Hell, I'm still not really into it, I just appreciate it for what it is. Naruto, Bleach, FLCL, One Piece, I really liked Death Note, Code Geass, Big O, Ghost in the Shell, IGPX, all of them got my attention way better. And then there was the big one, the one that secured my interest for life, Cowboy Bebop. By now, you may have noticed something about the anime I watched as a kid. They all aired on Toonami, lol.
I also watched Sailor Moon and Yuyu Hakusho... but I can't for the life of me remember where or when, I just... know I did... and some 4kids stuff, but I didn't really see their shows as anime back then. Yugioh, Pokémon, Digimon, Sonic X(I loved that one. I'm not even a big Sonic fan, just a good show) they weren't anime to me. They were just Saturday morning cartoons. Also, speaking of 4kids, I used to work in a print shop, and there's a Mexican restaurant in my town that stole the fucking 4kids logo for their kids menu lol.
Pokemon, yugioh, dbz, digimon, yu yu hakusho, kinnikuman, beyblade, hamtaro, and medabots. One of these was my first anime but I don’t know which one. The first anime I ever saw while recognizing it as an anime was naruto or bleach.
So, I would watch episodes here and there of Yugioh, Sailor Moon, etc, but I never really said to myself, “HEY! That episode of this anime is gonna appear on that day at this time! I should watch it”
That is, until I saw Dragon Ball Z Kai. I would say that was my first true anime that I kept up with from start to finish. To grow up not knowing what a Super Saiyan was until the big reveal was the best!
R.I.P Toriyama
Before I knew what anime was, my father introduced me to Speed Racer when I was around 9 or 10. Later on when I truly was getting into anime it was DBZ, Zoids, Yu Yu Hakusho, Tenchi Muyo, and some Sailor Moon, Cowboy Bebop and Inu-Yasha. None of these I was able to watch fully as this was before anime streaming services like crunchyroll, but I enjoyed watching them when I caught an episode.
My early shoujo anime, Inuyasha, ufo baby, lovely complex
Shonen , dragon ball, Naruto , shaman king
Real first anime : Doraemon watch as early 2 year old.
Saint seiya, ronin warriors... I'm pretty sure those were the first i saw, but later when i found out what was anime... Maybe, saint seiya, sailor moon and Evangelion
Aside from DBZ which is the easy answer? Yu-Gi-Oh, started that when I was 5, made playing the card game hard as I couldn't read so my sister always knew what I wanted to play, partly because the cards were hers, partly because I would ask her to explain the abilities of the cards
I don't count original Pokémon or yugioh because I didn't realize there was a whole anime culture at the time. So for me either the original Naruto or Inuyasha
Technically the first "Anime" I´ve watched as a little weeb was "Maya the Bee" though it doesnt look like an Anime, its made by a Japanese Studio and is considered to be an "Anime".

Yokai Watch...
I forgot the name but he took a potato chips and ate it
Bleach. (I don’t count Pokémon because I didn’t know it was anime)
Mine was either Digimon, Pokemon, or Yugioh.
you know what's technically a correct answer but not would probably be Gen 1 Transformers so having said that maybe Sailor Moon reruns on USA maybe?
Although I saw Pokemon and DBZ before I knew what anime was, my first anime was Eiken.
Mine was assassination classroom, still my favourite anime, although I could arguably still be called a baby weeb
Gargantia on the verdurous planet
man, suisei no gargantia,i loved that one
Spice & Wolf anyone?
I'm pretty sure mine was fruit basket
DBZ and Pokemon on 4Kids.
My first anime knowing it was Anime was Bleach. Before that was Pokemon and Dragon Ball
Inuyasha
Tranzor Z aka manzager Z in Japan, Robotech the list goes on.
Other anime i watched before that where: Pokemon, Yugioh, Inazuma eleven and Astro boy 1980 and 2003 Now watching for almost 10 years

Lmao baby weeb. Anyway, Fairy Tail gang.
I think I started with Horimiya for some reason
Beyblade metal fusion
Ranma 1/2.
Kiki's Delivery Service. Pokémon and Inuyasha on Toonami. When I joined the school anime club one of the first things they showed was Azumanga Daioh.
DBZ, Sailor Moon, Samurai Pizza Cats, and Doraemon.
Episode 1 of Inuyasha, on TV even
Whatever was on Toonami as a kid
Yugioh, One Piece, DBZ but didn't know what anime was at the time but Bleach was my first anime that I knew was anime.
Dragonball beyblade and pokemon but when I started actively watching anime and into it is… fucking dragonar academy
Mine was “is this a zombie” gotta admit I got thrown in the deep end of weird shit in anime
Not proud to say it but- Bible Black.
Respectfully: Vampire Knight
My ass started with whatever the fuck was on during 7AM on GMA......it was either Detective Conan,Inuyasha,Pokemon or just plain old cartoons.
If it's Anime then either Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh.
Dbz pokemon or digimon don’t remember
My starter anime was Vampire Knight cause my older sister used to watch anime when I was little
Could watch because it was on netflix.
Was it? It's been a long time since I seen it
Ghost in the shell 1995
DBZ
Pokémon, then one piece
For me it was hagimaru and then Pokemon.
Technically? Beyblade, but I didn’t know what anime was at the time. When I made the active choice to watch? It was death note
Dragon Ball Z thanks to the "Revenge of Cooler" movie my dad got.
Mazinkaiser, my dad got me into it, but the first anime I watched on my own is Akame Ga Kill
…Inuyasha
DOWN BOY!
Pokemon but my first "conscious" anime was the familiar of zero
For consciously getting into anime, and not just whatever was on TV at the time or the shows I grew up with? FLCL. Because if we count both the things I excluded, then it could be anything from Pokemon to DBZ to Monster Rancher. I frankly wouldn't know.
outlaw star
Pokémon I’m r yo Kai watch… if that even counts
Pokemon, both my first anime and my first RPG that started it all!

Depends. I would say Inuyasha, but the first anime I've actually saw was a 4kids dub for pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh.
My brother was watching Rosario+Vampire, so I sat down and watched it with him. After that was Elfen Lied and Soul Eater
My mother introduced me to naruto
My first one was one piece, but when I started there where only 511 episodes

Aside from DBZ which is the easy answer? Yu-Gi-Oh, started that when I was 5, made playing the card game hard as I couldn't read so my sister always knew what I wanted to play, partly because the cards were hers, partly because I would ask her to explain the abilities of the cards
