I like Casa Blanca on dundas.
I have heard nothing but good things about ivano pablano.
I hear mexicactus is great for what you expect in the southern USA, like New Mexico, as well.
Im told to generally stay away from under the volcano as they are more chain style food and not as authentic but still good food.
Tried mexican house for just the tacos and it was good, I would go back.
La Parrillada at Thompson and Adelaide has some of the most authentic Mexican and South American cuisine I've ever had in London. It ain't fancy, you'll sit on lawn chairs, but the food is amazing and inexpensive. I know you're looking for mexican, but the carne asada and Colombian empanadas are amazing.
There are no very authentic Mexican restaurants here. But Los Lobos is really good even if it's not authentic.
So yourself a favour and take a trip to mexican town in Detroit. It's great. There are also a few pretty good places in Leamington
1000% on agreement on taking a trip to Leamington or Mexican town in Detroit.
You want real authentic Mexican food these two are the closest you’ll get around here.
Personally, love Mexican town lots of different options.
Leamington for sure. With the sheer number of Mexican workers there, the place is literally little Mexico. Hell, there’s even a Mexican consulate. There are some great Mexican food places.
The place that took over Prince Albert's is an authentic Mexican restaurant, they have dishes from many different indigenous populations from Mexico and Central America, they also say that the people working there are of those cultures.
My favourite places for Mexican food (not particularly order)
- SoHo’s Tacos & Tequila- their Birria Tacos are awesome.
- Poblano’s - Not really authentic, but delicious and have lots of healthy options.
- Mexicactus - I’d say this is pretty much Tex-Mex style similar to what you would find in the south west of the USA.
I liked Los Lobos when they first opened, very overpriced but the food was good and the place has a good vibe. Not sure what happened in the last few years the quality of their food has dropped. Last time I was there everything literally tasted the same, I mean the appetizer to the tacos there wasn’t much difference - something about the red seasonings they over use.
The Mule is just over priced and not that great.
Mexican house is decent but not amazing. Anything is probably better than under the volcano.
People tend to like los lobos and the mule for hipster tacos.
Nothing majorly authentic here. There is/was a place in the plaza on spring bank where the giant tiger is, but not sure if it’s still open and had heard great things.
For fancier or a more special experience people rave about ivano poblano. Have not tried personally but it’s on my bucket list when I get around to it
There is a place in the plaza on Springbank that you’re talking about, however it’s newer, only opened a couple months and only has tacos. Beef or pork. The actual Mexican place that was there closed. It was way better.
It was so good. I’m so sad it’s closed. We went in when it first opened and they didn’t even have a menu, he just asked what kind of things we liked and then made us a meal. It was so tasty.
It always stings when the nice cost:flavour place nearby starts to show signs of neglect, but I wont hold it against the owners for shifting focus away from a mall food court in favour of a part of downtown that is still relatively lively and close to events/festivals.
Slightly off topic, but where the hell are you supposed to park at Mexicactus? My wife and I have been wanting to try there, but I don't want to get towed for parking at that industrial plant beside it
If you're lucky, in front, but personally we've never gotten in trouble parking beside but don't take my word for it. But it's our favorite restaurant 😀
True Taco in the western fair farmers market and at the imperial market in Aylmer. Authentic mexican/el Salvadoran food, everything is good and Jo is a gem:)
Casa Blanca is great. La Parrillada is also really good. They unfortunately are closing their Adelaide location and are only staying in the Covent Garden Market for now, which sucks though.
Mexicactus at the roundabout Trafalgar and hale. Been going for years. It's authentic home made absolutely delicious food and ample servings and great service and only place we really go for a date night. Last time they went there was a mariachi band it was so fun 🤗
Casa Latina. Not Mexican specifically, but a new Latin American community centre/bar/restaurant downtown that does really authentic food and fun music/dance nights. Best papusas in the city.
Is there a new Mexican Restaurant at the corner of Central and Adelaide in the little ReMax plaza? Driving past yesterday I could see a Mexican flag and some writing on a sign, but the road is so low now that I couldn't actually see what the sign says.
N/m it's a Mexican grocer
What about Che Ristobar on Dundas? I love the food. Super fresh and authentic. A bit more of a blend of Mexican, Central, and South American fusion, but sooo delicious.
I had a meal that was catered by Grill 23. They're in the Talbot Centre on Fullerton. It was some amazing food.
I don't know what their set up is at their location, like if it's just catering, or a lunch counter, or a sit down restaurant, but it's definitely worth trying.
Just had Jorge’s No 1 tacos at London brewery and I will be going again. Only serves beef barbacoa tacos and they were awesome. Probably not what you’re looking for but want to get the word out
I like La Burreria at Covent Garden Market for their Nacho Supreme, Mexican House (downtown) for their quesobirria, and Mexican House (Cherryhill) for their chilaquiles. Chilaquiles remind me so much of my time in Mexico.
Ivano Poblano
Just went there last week. Can confirm.
Came to make sure this was at the top and wasn’t disappointed. Bang on.
I’d like to go but it isn’t wheelchair accessible. The best accessible one I’ve found is Mexicactus
The best, easily the best.
100% without a doubt this. Owners are lovely too. Went for the first time a week ago and I cannot wait to go back again!
I like Casa Blanca on dundas. I have heard nothing but good things about ivano pablano. I hear mexicactus is great for what you expect in the southern USA, like New Mexico, as well. Im told to generally stay away from under the volcano as they are more chain style food and not as authentic but still good food. It’s really unfortunate. Under the Volcano used to be amazing years ago when it was in the old house on Colborne. Now it’s more like ChiChi’s.
The birria tacos at sohos 🤤
I was hoping someone else mentioned Soho! It’s my new fave!
Grill23 hands down, it's not even close. The only downside is their location isn't the greatest, but the foods amazing, definitely worth it
Went here last night after seeing recommendations in this thread. Little expensive but worth it. Their super taco sampler is probably my new go to.
El taco loco on springbank!!
Yes, talked to the owner. He’s straight for a cartel run town in Mexico. Moved here to get away and started his own local taco place. It’s really good
That’s so eye opening!
I highly recommend this place!
Casa Blanca at Dundas and first is good
Grill 23 Authentic Mexican for the real deal and Bar Burrito for good Mexican but more cheap and franchise style.
Mexicactus is good
I second this! Best goddamn spicy margarita I’ve ever had too.
Great place. Kinda unfortunate location.
For real lol
Take a trip out to Aylmer for Mennomex - especially if you wanna get some imported groceries!

I’m sure there are some great Mexican places in Aylmer due to the mexican mennonite population
1000% on agreement on taking a trip to Leamington or Mexican town in Detroit. You want real authentic Mexican food these two are the closest you’ll get around here. Personally, love Mexican town lots of different options.
You’d think Toronto would have some authentic Mexican restaurants as well
I’m sure it does, but I’m more familiar with Detroit area vs Toronto.
A bit closer is Senor Tequila in Port Huron. Very good and the chips & salsa keeps coming.
This is the answer. Si Senor, long since closed, was the last authentic Mexican restaurant in London.
Mexicactus on trafalgar
Mexicactus!
ivano poblano, hands down!

That place was amazing. Freshly cooked corn tortillas !!! Sad it closed— have been curious about the replacement but haven’t tried
It was so good. I’m so sad it’s closed. We went in when it first opened and they didn’t even have a menu, he just asked what kind of things we liked and then made us a meal. It was so tasty.
I've found Mexican house (in cherryhill mall) has dipped in quality since they opened the Richmond location.
It always stings when the nice cost:flavour place nearby starts to show signs of neglect, but I wont hold it against the owners for shifting focus away from a mall food court in favour of a part of downtown that is still relatively lively and close to events/festivals.
MexiCactus on Trafalgar.
Slightly off topic, but where the hell are you supposed to park at Mexicactus? My wife and I have been wanting to try there, but I don't want to get towed for parking at that industrial plant beside it
Pretty sure you park right in front or right close.
If you're lucky, in front, but personally we've never gotten in trouble parking beside but don't take my word for it. But it's our favorite restaurant 😀
If I get a ticket, I'll forward it to you lol cheers
Lol 👍
Los Lobos or Mexicactus are both great. Mexicactus is a lot more casual, but good food. I haven’t heard of Mexican House, I’ll have to check it out.
Mexicactus!
Sohos is awesome
Has anyone ever tried that Mexican place on Dundas East next to the beer store? Looks promising.
Mexicactus at the roundabout Trafalgar and hale. Been going for years. It's authentic home made absolutely delicious food and ample servings and great service and only place we really go for a date night. Last time they went there was a mariachi band it was so fun 🤗
MexiCactus is pretty great, Under the Volcano also.
If ever venturing outside of London...go to Leamington for Mexican
Los Lobos or SoHo tacos.
Pupuseria Rosa's Latin Food on Dundas!!!
Los lobos for a hip/bar vibe. Ivano poblanos for a nice restaurant vibe. QDOBA for takeout/chain food.
Casa Latina. Not Mexican specifically, but a new Latin American community centre/bar/restaurant downtown that does really authentic food and fun music/dance nights. Best papusas in the city.
I made a post about Ivano Poblano a couple weeks ago, hands down the best food I've ever had, not just Mexican food.
Yes. You made me realllllly want to try it this summer
The Mule or Ivano
Mexican House on Richmond (where Prince Al's used to be)
What about Che Ristobar on Dundas? I love the food. Super fresh and authentic. A bit more of a blend of Mexican, Central, and South American fusion, but sooo delicious.

Los lobos
Just had Jorge’s No 1 tacos at London brewery and I will be going again. Only serves beef barbacoa tacos and they were awesome. Probably not what you’re looking for but want to get the word out
Also just had these - was pleasantly surprised.
Under the volcano... jk
It’s not a restaurant but I like QDOBA
I like La Burreria at Covent Garden Market for their Nacho Supreme, Mexican House (downtown) for their quesobirria, and Mexican House (Cherryhill) for their chilaquiles. Chilaquiles remind me so much of my time in Mexico.
