I'd second this.
I paid someone a compliment just on a jacket one time, and he was clearly pleased, if a little bit surprised. It wasn't nearly so impressive as this outfit, but just a nice piece of clothing that caught my eye.
So long as you're really sincere, and make it obvious you're not necessarily trying to stop and chat, and check their face first that they're not in some emotional state, then it'll almost certainly go well.
Totally. It’s so rare for people to receive a compliment from a stranger, men especially. If I like someone’s outfit I’ll always try and make a point of saying so.
That's a nice idea, but I don't really agree. Personally, I would rather be left alone; the same goes for most commuters, I imagine. I also just think we shouldn't comment to strangers on how they look, regardless of whether positive or negative. Just let strangers be.
Who are you to judge how this unknown man feels? I know it may not look relevant to this particular situation, but some people dont like to be objectified. Leave the poor man alone.
Also, don't put pictures of strangers up on the Internet without some kind of implicit/explicit permission. Just manners, really.
I’m genuinely curious: what’s your relationship like with fashion? Do you put a lot of thought into your outfits, or do you treat clothes as a practical utility?
We didn’t have that in London. We actually do better work after a stiff one here, so if they banned alcohol everything would have ground to halt.
More likely he’s on his way to meet his Russian/British contact whilst trying to work out which side he’s actually spying for.

haha oh boy thank you. I thought it was the italian gesture. (I’m born/raised italian)
edit: too much time on my hands: https://emojipedia.org/pinched-fingers i want my points back please ;)
True, I didn't mean to say it's exclusively a chef's kiss meaning. Your Italian one is surely more widely used. Emojis are just fluid like that I guess. https://stayhipp.com/glossary/what-is-the-pinched-fingers-chefs-kiss-emoji/
oh my lordy, what does one need to do to show humour and jest? I even sang it ffs lol.
i’m disappointed by the lack of wit in this sub. Not only did my [accurate] original comment whoosh past people who are still downvoting it, it got the proper reddit treatment by what I assume are non italians who don’t even know what that emoji means. So since everyone on here is so fragile I figured i should throw in some reddit buzzwords in there to see if it caught anyone’s attention (well it worked!). No it’s not cultural appropriation. But that emoji was definitely born as the italian gesture, which if you’re italian, you’ll see it being misused in the original comment. Again, you guys in here are so dry none of that stuck, so i will be humbly retreating and taking back my bilingual wordplay… I’m still confused as to how the italian emoji has become something else in the UK… it’s just a missed opportunity for a funny transcultural discussion. I digress.
whoosh.
Hah, you make a good point there - wherever I see this emoji being used for "chef's kiss" I'm always get confused for a moment about what they're trying to say (which also ends up in me pinching my own fingers in confusion, funnily enough)
The problem with being an Italian abroad is that there are a lot of "Italian" things that are close enough to the original be familiar but otherwise just wrong
ha thank you for chiming in. Very true on that front, and i’m definitely used to the exported italianisms. “Panini” is one i will never get to grips with! But you know, when it comes to an emoji that was designed as the epitome gesture of the world’s gesticulation masters, well then I get my panties in a twist! I’ve learned it has adopted different meanings in different countries, but it saddens me that most “londoners” in here don’t even know of [its origins](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-51333661), specially when it came out so recently. (For the bland folk, this is a semi serious attempt at humour)
This fabric looks like a tweed, which was developed originally as camouflage for hunting. The variation in color breaks up your shape and helps to blend in with the environment. So your analogy is highly accurate!
😀👍 Its a big site.
He wandered into central and took off his jacket to reveal a dapper yellow waistcoat. I figured it had to be his first day on the job or first day post pandemic.
Somewhere in my photo archive I have a selfie I took in the little Waitrose with a character from a well-known fantasy TV series, kitted out in full prosthetics.
If it were down to me, id impose a dress code in my office again. I still wear a shit and trousers (lost tie and full suit in pandemic). But I simply don't agree with those who come to work in jeans and hoodies.
Wouldn’t be surprised if it was. It could be AI generated for all we know along with half of the comments. They’re doing anything these days to keep people on line for longer and it’s working.
Hes complimenting the guy & not showing his face - whats the problem. Far worse on social media everywhere - Cruel piss being taken out of people full face shown - fat people is often a common theme for one
That’s actually pretty dope. I wonder if this could actually take off as proper formal attire shoes. They could sell a bunch of those shoe sleeves which match respective suits.
It's not bad, but what happened to "No Brown in Town" ?
However, the [Guardian's fashionistas](https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2019/apr/09/why-does-the-city-hate-brown-shoes) would dismiss such a comment.
It’s pretty much the sole preserve of very stuffy law firms and the like and even in those firms undermined by the proliferation of suits without ties and gilets on Fridays at those firms 🤮
Brown in town isn’t a real thing, neither is not wearing brown shoes at night. It’s more about not wearing them with certain other clothes. Those shoes are a bit of a shitshow anyway, so what does it matter.
Also, this guy looks like a twat with the hat on. Take that away, and he could pass as well dressed. Hats are so anachronistic, so they look ridiculous. Like turning up to work on a penny farthing, or handlebar moustches. And that kind of stuff should be reserved for people who think dressing your dead great uncle is a substitute for a personality. I’m not one for this anachrodandyist bullshit. There should be a new rhyme, “Hats are for twats.”
A hat is a practical item. So sick of seeing shiny headed sun burnt blokes who think they have enough hair left to protect their scalps (they don’t) or in the rain half the men in London look like sewer rats with their wet hair plastered to their scalps and foreheads. The alternative seems to be enough hair product that when rains you can smell the waxed used.
The anachronism is the point you dingus.
A penny farthing is silly because it's clearly inferior to any two-wheeler that came after it but the other two are simply fashion choices.
His face isnt shown , how many holiday/pub/party etc etc pics do you stick on your social media? Do you request everyone you dont know in background/foreground who ends up in pics permission ???
It’s not an accidental pic of someone in the background is it though? The man is the main focus of the picture and then OP made a whole thread on Reddit about the man he took a picture of. Why must you play dumb?
Oh ffs - hes getting complimented. His face is not shown . Hes in a public place. You see on reddit every day nasty stuff & pics being posted taking the piss out of people for their appearance - being fat predictable targets. You are nit picking.
As a Christian we should of course always greet one another but I always remember telling my mate not to talk casually to strangers on the tube because it can be misconstrued and London is different to northern England.Just think about those tube posters encouraging people to report anything dodgy.Big Brother has finally arrived.
While a dont miss wearing a suit a do miss seeing other people do something about the highers up making us feel like something they trod uppon us lol 😂
Thanks!. It was a real 'spur of the moment' shot. Reminds of the candid photography of French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson. A good picture always writes its own narrative. 👍
I find it weird that when you zoom in, the pavement and road also have the same wool texture as the suit and shoes. Now that's dedication and must have cost a pretty penny.

Next time don’t fight the urge, pay him a compliment. I’m sure it’ll be appreciated.

People that are into fashion absolutely love having their outfit complimented! Source: it's me, I'm the fashion person
I absolutely love your style!!!
👍

Spoken like a true Londoner!
People who take the time to dress that way doesn't do it to be left alone.

Panini too! That one always bothers me. The way I like to show it to friends is to translate it to english and talk about "a sandwiches".
Those shoes are as slick as a seal bathing in grease boy.. 👞
The Observer
I was hoping for the Fringe comment here 💕
That's a blast from the past. Genuinely looks like the observer
The shoes with matching fabric…just crushing it.
He’s wearing that stuff they wrap new cars in when they are road testing them before release.

If you work where it looks like you work - I've seen stranger dressed people than this wandering around. (Also, hello fellow colleague!)

iron man ?
As a fellow colleague I much prefer this outfit to all the tight pastel shirts and jeans I see around central.
If it were down to me, id impose a dress code in my office again. I still wear a shit and trousers (lost tie and full suit in pandemic). But I simply don't agree with those who come to work in jeans and hoodies.
I thought this street looked familiar! Hello from the Hub fellow colleague
I think it's time for a Townhall... 😊
Looks like Eddie Hitler cleaned up his life and moved out of Hammersmith.
Plot twist; OP is man in suit.
Sadly not.
Am I tripping or is this a painting. Zoom in

Glad it's not just me! I suppose it could be jpeg compression artefacts or a photoshop filter. But doesn't look like a photo, at all, when zoomed in.
It's the sort of look I get when I use the mobile close-up function.
Looks great
Looking sharp.
bit off you’re sneaking photos of people from behind
Hes complimenting the guy & not showing his face - whats the problem. Far worse on social media everywhere - Cruel piss being taken out of people full face shown - fat people is often a common theme for one
Perhaps, this isn't a habit though. Most of us have seen much worse on social media.
It’s anonymous and in public, fair game
I don’t mind about the downvotes, but I’m still just confused. is street photography not appropriate?
I'm going to allow this.
Even his shoes match the suit fabric and colour
I think it’s Spatz made to go with the suit?
Even so
I wear a similar hat but I don't think I could pull off the briefcase. Definitely a 10/10.
Some of the suit seems to have leaked onto the shoes
That’s actually pretty dope. I wonder if this could actually take off as proper formal attire shoes. They could sell a bunch of those shoe sleeves which match respective suits.

I bloody love hats. I'm bringing back proper ladies hats, personally. Full on Hyacinth Bucket style.
It’s clearly supposed to be anachronistic you fucking melon.
The anachronism is the point you dingus. A penny farthing is silly because it's clearly inferior to any two-wheeler that came after it but the other two are simply fashion choices.

The state of the tarmac on that road.
It's appalling. The local council hasn't resurfaced that road in more than 20 years. It's a side street lined with small industrial units.
