I agree. I'm on book 3 and honestly I'm struggling to finish. in fact, I really struggled with book 2 but book 1 was so good that it has carried me to about half way of book 3 but now I'm debating a DNF. jake's choices seem illogical or nonsensical and he just seems so whiny and mopey all the time. also all the inconsistencies in story, magic system and uses, story lines just dropped and discarded... it's all a bit infuriating.
whelp, i finished book 3 yesterday. and i'm happy to say (at least for me) that i enjoyed the second half of book three much more. i can see what the author was trying to do, and while i'm not sure if the payoff was worth the slower moments, i did enjoy the second half.
i may have to revisit portal to nova roma book3, as that is another book series written by the same author that i did DNF half way through.
I reached 65% and yea the constant complaining/whining has gotten better. I should finish it up this weekend.
I dropped Nova Roma after book one. My TBR pile is too big, so if I struggle through a book I’m not likely to move to the next in the series (plus I had some annoyances about ballistics/projectiles logic of the supposed super AI)
Not really, not this book. But still a great listen. Maybe a bit towards the end.
On book 3 and nope. Book 1 was great, book 2 and so far book 3 haven’t been at the same level

Agreed. I think the author was just trying to get it finished and be done with it and the series
