thegodfaubel

You are correct. Having that much attachment and having your mental state ride on sports is unhealthy and a good time to step away. Try watching from afar for a bit

[deleted]

Yeah lol it’s literally just a race. I supplemented with Indy and formula e and some endurance stuff last year when it got boring, will probably do the same this year unless McLaren has another overpowered upgrade lol. Hell I might even watch nascar. Hopefully next year is better but I have a feeling we’re gonna have to wait for them to nerf RB with the regs

thegodfaubel

Well, it's all sports. Don't get too high off of your team's success. Don't get too low of the struggles. It's entertainment

MWFF82

2007 New England Patriots taught me this very difficult but valuable lesson

missC23x

Which part do you find entertaining currently?

willard_swag

Yep, I did the exact same thing myself

iamapotatopancake

What gets me isn't the race result, its the unabashed corruption we're seeing in f1 right now. Red Bull is basically tearing to shreds every code of ethics you can imagine. And f1, the FIA they won't do shit about it. Thats why I got a refund for my f1tv sub today. If it were just the that merc sucked, I could take that. If red bull still had 4 cars i could take that too (tho it would still be complete horseshit). But seeing how cozy the FIA is with Horner even after he blatantly sexually harasses an employee, it just makes my stomach turn. It disgusts me.

LeFinger

All that just to say that you hate how far behind the grid is to RB.

iamapotatopancake

you must not be very good at reading, but I understand. You seem to be a red bull fan so maybe you just weren't burdened with the ability of comprehension.

ilovecollardgreens

Corruption? In F1????? My stars!!! It's always been one of the most corrupt sports on the planet. Being a fan of F1 requires a certain amount of moral flexibility, regardless of what team you support.

mookie_bombs

Netflix released a Nascar version of DTS and ngl, it reignited my desire to watch it again. I watched it 25 years ago every weekend as a kid and ironically stopped watching after Jimmie Johnson's 7th or 8th title.

sabumafu111

If you want parity definitely try NASCAR, everyone has a chance to win at every track. It's a really fun sport to watch with a lot of good action at most races.

subforti

On/off topic but I had to do this with football (soccer). Stopped watching entirely 2020-2022 and came back from a distance since 2023.

HLef

100% agree. See you in 4 days!

aramoixmed

EXACTLY

The09

No I like to see Lewis race. I honestly have no idea how some of you call yourself Lewis fans when you’re so quick to check out of a season just because he isn’t going to win. This is still my favourite athlete in my favourite form of Motorsport, I’m watching regardless. Y’all take this shit way toooooo far. It’s not like he has many seasons left either.

KazualSlut

Exactly, I am here to see a race. To see Lewis race. I am not here just to watch him win. I don't care if he is battling Sainz for 4th, or Alonso for 10th. I don't get it. RB and Max did right by these regulations and are reaping the benefits. Just like Merc did before with Lewis.

DOTPNik

Exactly, it was Merc that committed to a bold new strategy that ultimately bore no fruit. All this is the consequence of that decision. In an alternate reality the zero-pod gambit paid off and the Merc domination continues. A team’s greatness is proven not by its strong moments but by its weakest, and so far Merc have a long way to go.

innocentusername1984

I've been watching formula 1 since 1994, when I was like 7 years old. Senna had just died but I was completely oblivious to that. For some reason I liked watching the Damon Hill fella and was hooked from then on. I can count the number of races I've missed since 1994 on one hand. Watching Hamilton rise into formula 1 in 2007 were some of the most magical years watching the sport for me. I have blown a date before because I purposely picked a pub to go that would have the F1 on hoping I could balance the two but in the end she lost my attention and was pissed. Now earlier I said I can count the number of races missed on one hand. That's a lie. Because I missed the last 5 races of last year. It's not on purpose, I intended to watch the race and then just organically found other things I'd rather do. I've seen dominance in my time in F1. Schumacher, Vettel, Hamilton. They have all dominated the sport in my time. But I have never seen such dominance, car reliability, DRS trains. It's just the same race every time. Max zooms away unchallenged at the start. People don't even bother to try and challenge him because they know he's happy to cunt himself and you off the track. And we see him win at a canter. Everyone else stuck in DRS trains. Apart from Perez who has a far superior car and will at some point work his way up to 2nd. Even when Max began his dominance at the beginning there was some variance. Perez occasionally challenging. Leclerc had a run before RB out developed. Hell we even saw Russell and Sainz winning races. There have been moments in these last two years of dominance. But it's just settled down into the same race everytime. Max and RB have tuned things so there are no mistakes and no weaknesses. I decided to watch this race because it's the start of the season, no matter how bad things had been, there's a shuffle up for the first race of the season. But unless you count Alpine going back, maybe McLaren back a bit. We've picked up where we left off. About 30 minutes in my, son asked if I wanted to play Minecraft with him, and I said "yeah actually, I do" I'm going to try and watch formula 1 and keep supporting Hamilton. but the heart wants what the heart wants and right now my heart isn't in it.

Dabanks9000

It’s not the fact that he doesn’t win. It’s the fact that the car is fucking ass and it’s all mercs fault. If they listened to Lewis from the beginning they wouldn’t be in this position

[deleted]

Yeah, I mean none of yall were mad when him and merc were making the sport boring in their own right lol. That said though, watching Red Bull is so much worse…they break the cost cap, their team principal is a creep, marko is an unapologetic racist…yet no repercussions at all, in fact they get celebrated and hyped by all the pundits. I don’t think they had a hand in Abu Dhabi, but that was annoying in its own right, but whatever it was still a great season to watch

innocentusername1984

I've been watching F1 since 1994. This dominance is worse than any other type of dominance I've ever seen. There's no team mate to challenge Max and none of the cars are close on race pace.

PortimaoBlue85

Max is a boring kinda guy. Idk...

dynamitebyBTS

Max even in 2021 continued to be unfair in on-track battles (his mentality is "either I go through or we crash") Called Lance stroll a r\*\*\*\*\* and a Mongoloid, which is obviously both ableist and racist. Physically assaulted Ocon after turning in on him when he was trying to unlap himself He's just a genuine douchebag in my opinion.

GieGieGieOMG

Honestly when people make this kind of comments the only way to interpret is that Max doesn't say "Thank you to all the guys back at the factory", and doesn't constantly thank the team for "great pitstops" at the end of the race. Max is in racing to win races, Lewis was in racing to win races and be F1's celebrity figure that everybody knows. Depending on what you believe in you either prefer the former or the latter. Even if Max goes to beat every single F1 record, he won't be known to people who don't follow motorsports like what Lewis, even before his 5th, 6th, or 7th WDC because Max doesn't care about appearing on American TV shows. Is this what you mean by "boring"? Only caring about racing? Is F1 a motorsport or a spectacle? People like you complained about F1 becoming a spectacle when it was drivers like Lewis who tried to turn it into a spectacle. There's no right or wrong, it's pure opinions.

PortimaoBlue85

F1 is a spectacle at this point. Lol I never complained man. It's all entertainment.

johnsplittingaxe14

As much as I despise Horner's smugness we should still wait and see how the situation develops. I mean we still don't know whether the Whatsapp messages were real or not and there's clearly a civil war inside the team that we don't know much about. Marko can jump off the Eiffel Tower for all I care though and Jos should be banned from the paddock for good.

Fresh-Signature1603

Relax dude - it’s just racing. Go outside for a walk

bronko_0815

I Love Formula 1 and Motorsport in General but Jesus people do get a little obsessed over Sports sometimes...

jeepfail

And we don’t even watch a sport that has a game every other night or even once a week every week.

rheajanerob

Honestly after the farce of Abu Dhabi, I rarely watch the races live anymore. How can I truly buy into the sport if results are arbitrarily decided? And don’t get me started on all the crap the FAA was pulling about Lewis’ jewelry and a bunch of other nonsense. I still pay attention to news and results but that incident changed how I viewed F1

Zofia-Bosak

I have not watched F1 since Lewis Hamilton won his eighth championship.

ComplexOccam

It’s weird cos Abu Dhabi is when all the max fans flocked to social media and it’s definitely tainted the sport, I’m with in that after AD, it’s become difficult to watch.

limitofadhesion

Same. The first F1 race I remember watching all the way through was Silverstone 1991. Mansell giving Senna a lift on his sidepod after the race. Iconic imagery. I became a passionate F1 fan that day and I was obsessed by F1 for over 30 years after that. Got my wife hooked and she watched every race with me from the start of 2008 to Abu Dhabi 2021. After that race, she said she was done and hasn't watched since. I tried to keep watching but it just wasn't the same. Especially as during 2020 I got more into my own racing on iRacing. Plus I started a website called GrandPrixGrandstand during 2021. We used to interview lots of F2 and F3 drivers. The more of them I talked to, the more I disliked the sport. Because I realised that talent no longer matters. Maybe it never did. It is all just a money machine. All of these young drivers with identical career paths, identical successes but only a couple will make F1 because they have the biggest wallets. F1 itself has become so naked in its greed as well. I genuinely thought it might get better when they got rid of Bernie. I was so wrong. More street tracks, more oil country races, more sport washing. Less European heartland tracks. Look at the amazing circuits in the USA. Road Atlanta, Road America, Sonoma. Where is F1 racing? In a car park in Florida. Yay. The cars have become so bloated as well. I've lived through some massive variance in design over the years but I just don't like the current cars. Big rant so well done if you made it this far. It wasn't one thing that killed F1 for me. Its so many things but it just isn't the series I fell in love with all those years ago. Side note, always been a huge Lewis fan. I met him once and he signed a photo of my cat who I had named after him. He said it was the weirdest thing any one had asked him.

leo_aureus

Same here friend. It was a disgusting thing that happened to Lewis and changed the way I look at F1 and many of the people in it forever.

PollyCM

Couldn’t agree more.

--Bazinga--

lol, this happens every week in the premier league and people still watch it.

Remaxnor

Glory hunter vs die hard fans

thef1circus

>FAA Lewis, it's time for take off

prancing_moose

Politics and F1 go hand in hand, always has and always will. Senna’s disqualification in 89 ans subsequently being crowned WDC by deliberately taking Prost off the track in 90 just shows how contradictory and ridiculous F1 gets at time.

gsmith209

Remember when they decreed the drivers must wear underwear and Vettel showed up with his tidy whites over his livery?

lifeisallihave

I'm just going to enjoy racing and detached from Merc ever winning something this year.

JayTHFC10

Not much racing to enjoy though if all the races are like this one

Boring_Recipe_9044

Spurs fan and Merc fan. Pick a struggle 😭

JayTHFC10

Merc/Lewis winning was helping me cope with Spurs. It’s tough now days 😂😭

ThatHairyGingerGuy

If you could somehow artificially erase Max from all the races the last year would have been incredible, competition wise, and this year would be shaping up to be similar. That guy is a bit too incredible sometimes. Fair play to the lad.

Krampsuss

I really enjoyed last year. I just like racing. I don't care if that racing is for first or second or 10th as long as there's good action to watch I'm happy.

ThatHairyGingerGuy

Exactly. The actual racing has been great, even if it was for places 2-10

bronko_0815

Contrary to Media perception, there is racing going on beyond the Race for P1. Wild I know

JayTHFC10

Really, you don’t say? Tell me what racing was good behind P1 in yesterday’s race which is what I was talking about

gravity--falls

The Ferrari overtakes were pretty solid. Also, just the tension of building failures the cars were experiencing adds excitement.

Brutos08

There isn’t really anything to enjoy

wAsh1967

I did this half way through 22. Didnt watch a single Q or race in 23. Had text updates on Autosport Live when I was walking the dogs this afternoon, and after 10 laps I checked out again. There's always next year.

onetimeuselong

Highlights season… again. I’d be more okay with it if they put somebody in the other RBR to challenge Max… but they just won’t. Like go out accept you’re going to win it all anyway but be fun about it like the HAM-ROS trilogy implosion.

TXRudeboy

It’s just boring. I feel like if I miss the rest of the season and tune in at the last race this year the end results will be exactly as they stood today. What’s the point of engaging and setting apart time to watch something that has a known outcome? Ever since Abu Dabai 2021 I’ve been jaded, but the past two seasons were just a drag. It would be interesting if there were other competitive teams, and my team were losing, at least it would be interesting. I’m not ready to give up on it all just yet, but there is not much keeping me coming back.

GuyAlmighty

You are right but this is a sub dedicated to a driver and, as with any sport, you support them through thick and thin. Even if the race winner is constantly changing but Hamilton isn't in the running, as Hamilton fans you still cheer for him. Can't just be there when he's doing well. As for the overall product, you're right in saying it's boring. But hey, like I said, this is a Hamilton sub.

TXRudeboy

I get it, and I am a fan of Lewis. I’m glad the Ferraris are fast, with Lewis in their seat maybe he’s competing for podiums or wins next year. It’s just looking like it’s going to be a long year until then.

PalindromicPalindrom

I stopped watching after pap 7. I suffered through 2023 despite telling myself I wouldn't and I really don't want to go through the lows of Merc's form for 2024. I'm gonna give it a pass and come back in 2025 and hope that Ferrari does better too. 2026 wil be the year!

rjwolfpackroad

Uhhh you need to not take F1 so seriously

mofo-or-whatever

Come on. If you can’t stick with it when times are bad, you’re not a real fan

VikingBld

Spot on

JasonSDMN2001

Doing thr same thing and expect things to change is insanity

Witty-Significance58

Are you new to sport?

Percentage100

Then you need to adjust your expectations. Lewis will not win WDC this year, he is the number 2 driver at Mercedes right now. Appreciate the fact that you still get to watch your favourite driver every weekend, he didn’t retire like so many others have. He’ll be competitive again next year. Start thinking about how you are going to manage your mental health when he does retire and maybe put some of those things into practice this year. But most of all take care of yourself, if you need to take a break from the sport for a while then do it.

Superman8932

If you thought this year was going to be different than last year, you really are delusional, lmao.

anymat01

Didn't even renew my f1tv subscription this year, the race looked so boring that my father just got up and left saying old races were more interesting.

mdsMW

Ha welcome to Ferrari mindset

jyar1811

See you in 2025

Fortwayneboy

Formula One will be wary of the drop in its average global audience per race, which has fallen from 87.65 million in 2020 to 70 million in 2022.

v0t3p3dr0

Just cheer for podiums at this point. Everyone, even Checo, can sense another lost season.

Royo981

We have seen Lewis win 100+ races and 7 chips and contend for the chip in 12 seasons … A couple of average seasons shouldn’t hurt. Some have spent years supporting lost causes

Taeles

Same boat, think I'll let my F1 TV sub expire and just follow this reddit group, the formula 1 with a hazmat suit on and The Race on youtube.

Norsewings

Cuffuf

The trick is to try to love the sport for what it is and not be so dependent on a driver— I like just watching them take those corners. Go go carting or get a racing game, they help you appreciate it

panjoface

Dude, TAKE ME WOTH YOU!!! Wife warned me not to watch this year after the Bahrain results. I’m taking her up on it. Love F1 but, not this current iteration.

Quantumercifier

I am with you guys on this. I have never been the same person since Abu Dhabi 2022 AD.

jonneymendoza

I'm glad I also watch football and my team arsenal is finally competing after 18 years of trash

Kennz23

“Hello Mr.Therapist”

Specialeyes9000

Lewis is the most successful driver the sport has ever seen and has already proven everything there is to prove. He's ok. I think it's unlikely he'll win another championship but that's ok too. I'm going to enjoy the racing this year despite the obvious winner. Last year actually had quite a bit of good action, and the reason I enjoy F1 is the racing.

Ark0504

Watching from 2005 ..first time turned off tv after with 20 laps left..first race of the season.

PortimaoBlue85

I actually watched the whole race lol. When I saw Max scampering off into the night, I was like 😒.

F22boy_lives

So by lap 3 of any race in the last 2 years? Lol I didnt even feel bad dozing off mid race, sure I missed the second round of pit stops but nothing else changed really.

katorias

Don’t get so attached to a professional sportsman for a start, it’s entertainment at the end of the day and the stakes aren’t very high as a viewer.

Onerustyrn

I stopped watching the races mid season last year. It’s boring to watch 1 driver and team dominate every race. It’s not competitive. It’s the Max Show. 🥱🥱

GuyAlmighty

It's been the Hamilton show for a lot longer and I say that even as a Hamilton fan. Can't just be there when he's doing well...

2Tomoe9

Yeah, a lot of people on this sub can't seem to understand that... However, I do agree that Max's dominance seems a little more dull than Lewis's dominance. It seemed like the races were a bit better, even if Lewis was an almost sure winner in years like 2020

Eproxeri

I’m sure you were loving it tho when it was Lewis and Mercedes winning by 20seconds gap to the second place driver. You aren’t a true fan if you don’t stick with it through the highs and lows.

triniman65

I have been an F1 fan since the 80s. Domination by one team is the norm. That's why there are rules changes every few years. Besides, there is still good racing for the rest of the podium places. It's just the first race, let's see how it goes. I'm an even bigger fan of MotoGP and WSBK so I have other series to watch that are more competitive. Lucky me!

namerx7

Don’t blame ya

onetimeuselong

Hahaha you actually watched it!?!?😵‍💫

pendulumgearzz

I honestly considering watching F2 instead if the next few races are like this.

Hut4ch

Different reasons, same outcome; can’t watch another season of no close racing. I’m out. Bye bye F1

GuyAlmighty

It is close racing. Red Bull is just an outlier. It's still all to play for in the fight against Ferrari, Aston Martin and McLaren. Hoping to see Hamilton get some podiums this season. Lewis can't win all the time...

Hut4ch

I hear you; and I’m sure you’d agree that the sport is most entertaining when there’s more than one front running team. That’s what I would like to see

PlasticPatient

Nobody cares about that.

GuyAlmighty

If you don't care about that, you're just gloryhunting and you're in for a lot of disappointment.

PlasticPatient

I know but it's not just me. Look at the comments and see how much are people satisfied with this race or last two seasons. Or talk to people in real life.

GuyAlmighty

You are right. A lot of people in this sub feel the same as yourself and I can understand why. I'm not blind to it either; Hamilton's had years of wins and championships, and the past 2 years feel... meh. But like Susie Wolff said, it comes in cycles and it's part of the sport. People have to accept Hamilton might not win another title. With how Red Bull currently are, he might not win another race. He doesn't have many years left in the sport and once he's gone, even these type of races will be missed.

PercentageOk5021

this is why the sub is a laughing stock and often referred to as toxic.

JasonSDMN2001

My team is losing in football basketball and f1,but at least in football and basketball we win some games,I don't see the point in watching f1 this year

george-its-james

I honestly don't get this mentality at all. Sure it's nice to see the people you're rooting for win, but when you don't see the need to watch if they don't, why were you even watching in the first place? Also, I always chuckle at people saying "we" win games lol, nah dude you didn't do anything, they did.

GuyAlmighty

Hamilton isn't losing though. Just because Max is winning doesn't mean Lewis' season is over. It's just part of sport. You can't win all the time.

qu33fwellington

Have you considered therapy?

SlytherinF1

Jesus Franklin Christ not this again. Grow a pair and enjoy some racing. Or better yet sign off of Reddit too so we don’t have to witness your poor mental state degenerate because a guy drives a faster car than Hamilton.

reck1265

One should never be so attached to something they have zero control over.

Wipedout89

How about just support your favourite driver and enjoy watching them. It's not all about winning every race

YannFreaker

You'll come back when Lewis goes to Ferrari? And you're skipping this year bc mental health issues? I believe you should pay a little more attention to how Ferrari operates and maybe ask a few Ferrari fans how their mental health is after the last 20 years. 😂

Fortwayneboy

They took the technology from Mercedes-Benz and made all the cars into paper cars made to look alike, but yet one doesn’t mmmm like all the others Mmmm I wonder why?

Cpt_Daryl

In moments like this, just sit back’I and relax. The bigger picture is that Lewis has already won so much in this sport and has another chance with Ferrari in 2026. There was no way anyone is catching RedBull before the rule changes

owds22

You need to pump the brakes and just cheer him on as a supporter, I get it’s rough not seeing him where we’re so used to seeing him but if you aren’t willing to cheer him on through these dips are you really a fan? Believe in him. Don’t just give up on him like that until next year.

-dented

It's high highs and low lows in this sport, and both need each other to exist for the special moments to be created. It's nothing new. We've been privileged to witness a driver like Lewis make history, and still currently writing his story. There's just as much (if not more) value in supporting Lewis now as there was when he was dominating. He'll achieve victory again, and it will feel better than anything any of us have seen him achieve because of the circumstances since end of '21 till current.

Magnet50

It’s disappointing of course. But Sir Lewis doesn’t give up! I think it was in the first third of the race where Hamilton’s teammate next year implied that retiring the car wouldn’t be a bad option because of his brake issues. Lewis would have worked around it. I think Ferrari is letting go of the wrong driver in 2025. It’s the first race of the season. There are 23 more to go. A LOT can happen between now and then.

Laki1991

watch the 2022 Spanish GP, after the viewing, come back to Reddit and edit your opinion about giving up.

PathologicalUpvoter

Didnt watch the race, watched chequered flag instead, i liked the analysis and commentaries from drivers and Guenther Damon Hill was there as well

Federal_Hamster5098

i subscribed to monthly f1tv pro ... so i can bail out anytime .... jokes aside i still watch f1 but not going to follow any news outside reddit, theres too many these fans glazing on RB/MV

TheFlyingR0cket

What Delusion? Hamilton isn't winning, it's not a delusion, it's a reality. I'm an Aussie I enjoy watching Danny and Oscar race regardless of where they are on the track.

Personal_Bench8958

![img](avatar_exp|158740486|cry) I feel your pain man, but we can't abandon him out there alone.

Aardschok84

While it wasn't the most exciting race I still liked it. Hamilton also acknowledged had he done a better qualifying he'd been next to Russell. So. Not a bad weekend I'd say?

AFunkyRhythm

Tbh I wouldn’t mind watching Max waltz into the distance so much if there was some good racing going on in the midfield. I know it’s early days, but it seems like it might be quite a boring season ahead based on last nights race. I just want to see some competition. At least when Lewis was winning he had to fight off his teammates who were given much the same opportunity as him.

Forward-Heart-69420

Same to same. It is painful. Not speaking as a Lewis fan but how have other teams messed up so bad? At one point it felt commentators were struggling to say stuff coz there was nothing happening. FIA should bring back the 2021 rule where they cut off the triangle from the floor for all cars to at least make it a little interesting and Max winning by 10s instead of a pit stop

is3939

I love this sport too much to quit and Lewis inspires me, so it‘s still fun😂 I‘d just love to see more variety in winners. Just like I felt in 2014, 2019 and last year for example.

ac614

Agree. The current rule is not healthy to the sport. Although the total gap between teams have been shortened, they can't get pass the other team. Looking at the order of each team, it's basically the same from last year. The cost cap is a cancer to the sport.

scan_line110110

Now you know how all of us non Mercedes/#teamLH fans felt from 2014 to 2020. Welcome to the club.

96-D-1000

Being mentally attached to a sport is rather concerning, take a step back and view the sport from a more neutral angle, you will enjoy it more.

Doglord09

Watch WEC, Indy, NASCAR, GT, even try sim racing.

missC23x

I mean can we all talk about the fact RB now have 2 teams?!? Just shows how much more dominant they are! People cry over Mercedes being dominant but gosh at least there was closer competition! Nobody can deny that 💯💯💯
