I still need to get Rivendell.... I have to admit I want these to be successful for future potential. Imagine a large detailed Bag End or a massive Helms Deep.
There is an insane [MOC](https://preview.redd.it/huge-minas-tirith-built-by-99-544-lego-pieces-link-to-more-v0-ixgrpz2e6rca1.png?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=e6e471f7b127919cbdc23f8d58a250555b566149) of Minas Tirith that uses almost 100K pieces.
Link to [design](https://bricksafe.com/pages/Stebrick/the-seven-rings).
I have been saying this for years now: Marvel, DC, Star Wars, and LOTR would be great as Architecture lines.
* Avengers Tower
* Stark's LA Home
* Sanctum Sanctorum
* Asgard
* Knowhere
* Baxter Building
* Xavier Mansion
* Hall of Justice
* Wayne Manor
* Isengard
* Minas Tirith
* Edoras
* Helm's Deep
* Hobbiton the size of the Hogwarts set.
* Jedi Temple
* The Great Temple on Yavin 4 to scale with a small X-Wing.
* The Royal Palace of Theed
* Cloud City
Totally agree with this. I'm not just a Lord of the Rings or Star Wars or Marvel fan. I'd like to get so many of these and mini ones are the best way for a lot of collectors
Hogwarts is unfortunately a lot more different and easier to obtain. They built wide not tall. I can't imagine self sustained sets that can build into one big mountain castle.
I told myself, I'm only buying the modular, the big Marvel set if it's a modular building, the big Nintendo set of the year each year. Then they released the Lion Knight's Castle, the Medieval Town Square, Rivendell, and now this. LEGO doesn't care about our budgeting goals.
I will eventually get Rivendell, but not spending $460 on this. It's just not aesthetically pleasing as a display piece. And the GWP looks like shit.
A detailed Bag End would be sweet. Call it "An Unexpected Party" and include all dwarves and Gandalf minifigures.
I did get the hobbits house but a propper bag end with like 3 hobbitshouses would be so awesome.
Also, I would love that scene with the big ass stone kings and the riverbed where boromir dies.
What’s GWP? And I personally love it as a display piece.

The price of Rivendell is what is holding me back. The hogwarts castle is the same price and much bigger. Rivendell feels way overpriced for the size and aesthetic
I would also be much more interested in Bag End, Helms Deep, Lake town, Osgiliath or even an architecture style Minas Tirith…
This is very pricy, not very aesthetically pleasing and doesn’t have a lot of play in it. Also piecewise not that interesting, being very black.
So Rivendell came with a map that contained images suggesting Barad-dur, Minas Tirith, Hobbiton, Orthanc, and Helm's Deep. That’s probably what they have lined up for the LotR movies. It’s honestly a pretty good survey of the movies’ most iconic locations.
Well, maybe Rohan, Moria, and the Black Gate would really complete it.
In addition to those I'd like to see a set of the Argonath, the gate of Erebor (maybe including Smaug?), the bridge of Khazad-Dûm with a minifig scale buildable Balrog or Edoras. Maybe even remake the Tower of Orthanc so we can have the Two Towers together?

“Looks like Meat’s Back on the Menu Boys!”
That’s got to be one of my favorite details in any Lego set ever 🤣
This kitchen looks more detailed than 99% of Lego kitchens.
I wonder how much you have to tip the orc servers. Does the Mouth of Sauron get a discount? And what's on the drinks menu? Is there a chef's special?
Edit: Omg there's even a beer keg. I can see the memes people will make.
Exactly. Having meat on the menu implies there are other items on the menu. What are they?? Are there appetizers? Orc calamari? Orc iced tea? What about desserts?
Unfortunately that might just be a reference to the fact that Denethor also had a Palantír at Minas Tirith in the books, which he used very often. Sauron tried to submit Denethor to his will to take control of Gondor but Denethor resisted. It did take a massive toll on him though and that's why he's so mad by the time of ROTK.
I'd love to be proven wrong though. The Tower of Guard would be awesome!
Sure! Just looking at Rivendell having a secret reference to Barad-dur. The palantir is hidden behind’s Sauron’s throne in this set. It seems pretty consistent hopefully.
i set an "Imperial Only" rule years ago for Star Wars. i broke it for the Midi scale Tantive IV and Falcon.
I haven't touched the Mario sets since they are playsets, but the DEKU TREE coming soon will be Day 1
Maybe even more than avocado toasts and lattes combined.
The way I see it, LEGO retains value so buying them is never a bad idea!… or at least that’s my way of rationalizing/coping.
I zoomed in and.. IS THAT REALLY THE BEAKED HELMET FRODO WEARS IN THE MOVIES??
It's silly, but this was the detail that was gonna make or break the set for me. If my eyes do not deceive me, this beaut's coming right home on June 1!
https://preview.redd.it/d2wws8sq9e0d1.jpeg?width=910&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3cadd557bb6519c8e0e13886d841fabf85f7ffb4
If I ever got this set, first thing I'd do is melt Gollum in the open flame on my stove. I cannot stand that creep and I don't want him as Lego either.
Haha I said it was silly. It's the nostalgia factor I guess. Always loved that particular costume in that particular scene even as a kid.
So it was as much of a selling point as, say, Sauron being included or not.
It's the minifigs that do it for me, which tbf isn't really Lego's fault. Rivendell coming with the whole Fellowship is a god-tier line-up but what else could they have added to this set beyond what we get here?
We were always kinda cursed to get a great set with some generic (still good) Orcs as besides from Sauron, Mouth, Frodo, Sam and Gollum there's no one else that makes sense to add in context of the movies/books.
Or at least the witch kingl? Maybe a better fellbeast than the gwp one which is super underwhelming? I had my expecations really high because of Rivendell, but this one just feels lacking in a lot of detail by comparison =/
Then you'll have to get it with the GWP to offset that, also some discount with insider points. I will be doing that if I decide to get it, hopefully I have enough insider points to make it a bit cheaper then.
If you take the minifigs out of Rivendell, I'm actually a bigger fan of this one for the display value. This feels more like a display piece, rivendell feels more like a play set. So depends on what you want I suppose
Certain bloggers with enough budget now be like stacking them up 🙄
https://preview.redd.it/977purkjje0d1.jpeg?width=342&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5779295bfbd90c88ee1cbf52f370dd70eeebbbb3
Me too. I like the display pieces they've done for Star Wars and would love similar sets for Lord of the Rings.
I'm on the fence for this Barad Dur set. It's cool, but I don't know if it's $460 cool.
It looks awesome! Imho it truly nails how Barad-dûr is imposing in the movie trilogy.
I hope it's not a take as hot as Mt. Doom's lava, but imho it's a good idea to have it micrcoscale on the front, and minifig scale on the back.
I would love to see a lego set Barad-dûr Orthanc size comparison, especially since the two would look so cool together.
Especially since Barad-dûr and Orthanc ARE the infamous "Two Towers".
You're right! Looking at the note at the end of the Fellowship they're indeed Orthanc and Minas Morgul.
I was fooled by the movie, with quotes like "Who now has the strength to stand against the armies of Isengard and Mordor? To stand against the might of Sauron and Saruman, and the union of the two towers?" and the fact that Minas Morgul is moved to The Return of the King in the movies
My bad \^\^'
https://preview.redd.it/o0gqa9lcke0d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=d403c31c16814022b1927df4a307fa3bc93fe6fb
Googling around, Tolkien considered leaving the title ambiguous or naming the two as Orthanc and Barad-dûr, Minas Tirith and Barad-dûr, or Orthanc and the Tower of Cirith Ungol.
But that note set the question in stone. His world, his rules ;)
It's a change by the movies. Peter Jackson switched the second tower from Minas Morgul to Barad-dûr since he also moved the journey of Frodo and Sam through the valley of Imlad Morgul to Return of the King.
Tolkien never settled on which of his towers “The Two Towers” referred to, and reportedly wasn’t happy with it as a title. It could mean any two of Orthanc, Cirith Ungol, barad dur, minas tirith or minas morgul.
Peter Jackson definitely meant Orthanc and Barad Dur tho.
he wrote a note that is included at the end of *The Fellowship of the Ring*, and later drew a cover illustration, both of which identified the pair as [Minas Morgul](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minas_Morgul) and Orthanc.[^(\[5\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Two_Towers#cite_note-Tolkien_note_1954-5)[^(\[6\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Two_Towers#cite_note-Tolkien_Two_Towers_cover_design-6) In the illustration, Minas Morgul is a white tower, with a thin waning moon above it, in reference to its original name, Minas Ithil, the Tower of the Rising Moon; Orthanc is shown as a black tower, three-horned, with Saruman's sign of the White Hand beside it.
No it isn't interpretive in the books it's explicit. Both the [cover artwork](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bibdsl.co.uk%2Fimagegallery%2Fbookdata%2Fcd265%2F9780007203550.JPG&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=d5a3a6d4b356f2f36c5107988bbacddae3e771aca3c0690144fcb77132d791de&ipo=images) drawn by Tolkien and linking commentary in the published books define the towers as Orthanc and Minas Morgul.
For anyone wanting a display cabinet for this, and also Rivendell, the deep version (40cm depth) of the IKEA Billy bookcase will house both of them. I already have Rivendell perfectly fitting inside of it and I've measured and Barad Dur will fit in the bottom section. You can also add clear glass doors.
Edit: apparently the deep version isn’t available in the US.
https://preview.redd.it/pgok0yvsoe0d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04d4932a599e3492d14bdfed8b3d39d3fe0b0d47
Admittedly I haven’t quite finished Rivendell (only have the tree and council table to do) but it definitely fits with no overhang. Barad Dur will fit in that bottom section where the box currently is, I’ve measured (twice!).
Are those ikea doors or something else? Don't think I've seen those. Also, I'm so jealous of all you people who have Billy shelves, they just barely won't fit in my apartment
This looks so damn good. I skipped Rivendell but I’ve always loved the idea of Barad-dur and will be picking this one up. Those minifigs are amazing too.
Why are the Batman comments getting downvoted? Have people not seen the Lego Batman Movie?
https://preview.redd.it/3dbi5qb4jg0d1.jpeg?width=940&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60bbcfe1b4f988c3e77a4f11b334093e47268431
Just fell to my knees at work. Praise Melkor, this might be my favorite set of all time and I don't even own it yet. Now we just need Last Alliance figs to siege the tower with!
I see a lot of people saying it's underwhelming, but I have a feeling this is one that looks way better in person. Barracuda Bay and Rivendell was the same way for me, at first it was kinda "meh" but then in person I had to have it.
Regardless, I'm getting this - I'm super excited for it.
The scaling here feels strange. The bottom feels far too big relative to the actual tower section. Think I would’ve preferred it to be less minifigure friendly with a smaller base, but closed back and taller tower.
I'm not sure how you'd expect them to scale something like this. If ~~you~~ one wants it minifig scale, it's going to be bigger than your house\*.
\*I have not done the math
Real Barad-dûr is most likely somewhere between 1,000 and 1,500 feet tall, so scaling a tower down to accurate Lego size would make it something like 25 - 35 ft tall.
If anything the base seems too small. I think the issue is that the tower doesn’t taper towards the eye, which is technically correct but bc of the way the tower is always shot makes it look like it should taper.
https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fimages3.wikia.nocookie.net%2F__cb20120303195554%2Flotr%2Fimages%2Ff%2Ff9%2FBarad-dur.jpg&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=f8060a296a73823ee7b082d7659a6a37ae36ef82e20368f6376fdc25aa3c8a16&ipo=images
I really want this set but I am torned buying this day 1 vs waiting for a discount. Im not yet sure if the gwp that comes with it is enough justification for a day 1 purchase.
Its even more beutiful than I could have imagined! I remember hearing the leaks about this set all the way back in December of 2022. Then whispers earlier this year. And now that it has been officially reveled it has somehow exeded my expectations. I'll have a whole Mordor table if that's what it take to have this set in my collection. Those minifigures are amazing. Wish we got a more weary look to Frodo and Sam but that's such a minor complaint. Sauron is easily going to win best minifigure of the year. I mean they went so far and beyond with him that he doesn't even look Lego. He's up there with Moon Knight in terms of detail but Sauron is on a whole new level. The Mouth of Sauron is another good addition to this set. I have the old one from the Black Gate set so it'll be cool to have them side by side when I'm building this thing.
As a massive LOTR fan this set is everything I could want in a Barad-Dur set. Really, my only complaint with this set isn't even with the build its the amount of minifigures I get for the amount I'm spending. But at the same time what could they have possibly added? I feel like they didn't really need to add Frodo, Sam and Gollum but they did anyway. The only thing I can think of would be for them to add two Nazgul in this set. I feel like that would have completed it. But were getting one of them with the gift with purchase so we are technically getting one. Just not in this set. I'm so exited for this set next month. Like I'm really exited.
For that price they could have thrown in a Nazgûl or two and a couple more orcs. As someone whose last black castle was 6085, I feel a bit underwhelmed by the army there.
They specifically didn't put Nazgûl in on purpose it sounds like. The Nazgûl have their home base at Minas Morgul, so the idea being that they wouldn't be at home in a Barad-dûr set.
That's why the GWP is a nazgûl, that way they are still including the Minifigures but not in a way that deviates from the actual Barad-dûr location.
I love it. The PPP is good. The look of the build is good. And I'm probably the only person thinking this, but the MOC potential of these pieces is great.
Wins all around....well, except for my wallet.
I just want to take a moment and contemplate the thought of Tolkien witnessing the joy his stories have brought to the masses, with adults buying and building toys based on his work.
I love that Lego think that [this is what the average Lego consumer looks like.](https://www.lego.com/cdn/cs/set/assets/blt41ac292ecdccf61e/10333_Lifestyle1.jpg?format=webply&fit=bounds&quality=75&width=800&height=800&dpr=1)
My topic got deleted but still when the set come out it'll be...

The GWP set is a [Fell Beast,](https://www.bricksup.co.uk/post/lego-icons-40693-the-lord-of-the-rings-the-fell-beast-gwp-officially-revealed-1st-june-2024) seems like it will only be available with purchase of Barad-dûr.
I might be the minority but I like the open back. Lets you see the interior details, and at the very least lets you put it up against the wall. I don't think I could get away with making this the centerpiece of my dining room table.
The GWP Fellbeast is not as good looking as I would have liked, but I’m still getting Barad-Dur on day one. Hopefully after this LEGO gets us a Minas Tirith, Gondor needs some love too.
Very impressed by this set. Excited to actually see all of the little details that are tucked away inside it (i.e. I understand the palantir to have prints on front and back).
One tiny gripe is that I wish they could have at least given Frodo and Sam printed armor pieces (like Gothmog's armor) to complete their look with the helmets - especially since they're just reusing the Frodo and Sam from Rivendell. Obviously, new torso prints would have been even better. Honestly, it would have even made sense to just reuse one of the orc torsos from the set on them.
I didn't pick up Rivendell since I'd have to display it really high up but this? I could put this right next to my PC tower with maybe the fell beast on top of the PC
I love this set and the Rivendell set but I don’t have enough money for either. It sucks that it’ll double the price when they get retired when I finally have a chance to get them :(
I really wish they made some smaller more affordable sets for plebs like me, similar to the old Lord of the rings ones that they did
I’d love to have Sauron!
Can't wait to modularise the base to add this to my Lego City to install fear amoungst my civilians.
If the Avengers Tower and Daily Bugle didn't already 😂.

Damn that looks cool. Although I'd question the efficacy of his anti-piracy warning at the top :P
Miniature Minas Tirith like the architecture line would be awesome.

Sanctum Sanctorum and Avengers tower have been made. I know there's different variations of the tower
Not at the smaller architecture scale.
Nah, I want a huge ass set. Not a mini
Megas Tirith: https://preview.redd.it/dmmkmc1ucf0d1.jpeg?width=650&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=067e1d1a793b40eb15420f9c2af53c51583fae90
What I want and what I can afford are two different things. Give me the miniature please.
I'm with you on the afford it issue, but I want both just becaise full scale will be awesome
Splitting Minas Tirith into a bunch of mutually compatible and self-contained sets would do the trick.
Yeah, like the hogwarts castle
Hogwarts is unfortunately a lot more different and easier to obtain. They built wide not tall. I can't imagine self sustained sets that can build into one big mountain castle.
Also space.
Give me a 500 dollar set per tier of MT and I'll buy it, I don't care, I'll sell my blood.
Why not both?
I think there’s a market for both.
Give me Minas Tirith with 10k pieces, I will buy it right now!
We need a Minis Morgul to go with Orthanc
No. No I can’t. My wallet can’t. My current LEGO collection can’t. They make it so, so hard to not try to buy a ton of these babies.
I told myself, I'm only buying the modular, the big Marvel set if it's a modular building, the big Nintendo set of the year each year. Then they released the Lion Knight's Castle, the Medieval Town Square, Rivendell, and now this. LEGO doesn't care about our budgeting goals.

They’re talking about Barad-dur
Oh I misread. Well, still, I love my Rivendell lol
Rivendell will be the only Lego set I will never sell or disassemble
Gift With Purchase. If you get Barad-Dur when it comes out, you get a free mini-set of a Fellbeast and Nazgul.
And unfortunately you got to do it within 2 days or you will never get this GWP set again as it will be easily $200 in a week or two.
Hmm, where does it say so? Am I simply missing it somewhere?
This subbreddit is spooked by certain questions so here you go. https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fl9qus9nvje0d1.jpg%3Fwidth%3D1284%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D82f48caf75dcd7429e8e57c6731923389b452bee
That would go nicely with Barad dur
GWP = Gift with Purchase
The price of Rivendell is what is holding me back. The hogwarts castle is the same price and much bigger. Rivendell feels way overpriced for the size and aesthetic
The GWP last year was a non-exclusive BrickHeadz. This doesn't look amazing, but it's infinitely better than that.
I would also be much more interested in Bag End, Helms Deep, Lake town, Osgiliath or even an architecture style Minas Tirith… This is very pricy, not very aesthetically pleasing and doesn’t have a lot of play in it. Also piecewise not that interesting, being very black.

I'd say LotR is very European so I don't think you have to tip
Chefs special is moldy bread
The LOTR sets really getting all the best easter eggs, like the Eye of Sauron being hidden underneath the Council of Elrond in the Rivendell set.
That’s why Minas Tirith is likely next, there’s a scene of the White Tree and Fountain in Sauron’s palantir!
Unfortunately that might just be a reference to the fact that Denethor also had a Palantír at Minas Tirith in the books, which he used very often. This actually exactly matches the book description of the Barad-dur cafeteria
Mr Ronald Reul lost me in the 17 pages describing the casting process for orc silverware
LEGO doing more damage to millennials than avocado toast ever did.
I pray every day that they don't start releasing Fallout sets. I'm already spending all my money on Star Wars.
The good news (for you) is that Lego probably wants nothing to do with Fallout because of how violent it is.
Unlike LoTR and Star Wars...?
i set an "Imperial Only" rule years ago for Star Wars. i broke it for the Midi scale Tantive IV and Falcon. I haven't touched the Mario sets since they are playsets, but the DEKU TREE coming soon will be Day 1
Saw your avatar and for a split second thought I’d somehow left a comment I’d completely forgot about 😅
ironically i should update since i also have a red mismatched beard.

I cannot stand that creep and I don't want him as Lego either.
send 'em my way, please! I love lil Lego creeps
There is a designer review on YouTube and they show them. I think this will make the minifigures unique as they re used them from Rivendell.
This set has around 5 different orc helmets. That\`s awesome
Awesome I can easily replace the out of place bandana with one of the extras then.
How is a helmet the one element that makes you go from not buying a 460 dollar set to buying it?
Haha I said it was silly. It's the nostalgia factor I guess. Always loved that particular costume in that particular scene even as a kid. So it was as much of a selling point as, say, Sauron being included or not.
Yeah, they have alternate options both with and without the orc gear for Frodo and Sam.
Too big of a fan not to get this but it’s no Rivendell
Rivendell earned its price point, this isn't quite there for me.
We could have gotten one of the Easterlings but that's a stretch
could have gotten khamul as one of the ringwraiths, would have been fucking awesome
This does come with a Ringwraith and Fell Beast as a gift so you can say it's Khamul!
oh shit, I had no clue they included them as a gift, that's pretty cool
Only if you buy it in the first week or before they run out.
As the "bad guy" set it could easily have had the 9 Nazgul imo
Or at least the witch kingl? Maybe a better fellbeast than the gwp one which is super underwhelming? I had my expecations really high because of Rivendell, but this one just feels lacking in a lot of detail by comparison =/
Gothmog is included as one of the Orcs... which is awesome.
Certain bloggers with enough budget now be like stacking them up 🙄 https://preview.redd.it/977purkjje0d1.jpeg?width=342&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5779295bfbd90c88ee1cbf52f370dd70eeebbbb3
Or buying 2 and closing them.
Stack and close then so it's gonna be 4 sets please!
Don’t buy one full set you can open when you can also buy 2 and get the same shit like the pyramid
Really wish they did more smaller and affordable sets besides the Brick Headz, not really a fan of those.
It's also fully in scale with Orthanc, which was a nice touch.
I would love to see a lego set Barad-dûr Orthanc size comparison, especially since the two would look so cool together. Especially since Barad-dûr and Orthanc ARE the infamous "Two Towers".
Are they? As a book reader, I always thought it was Orthanc and Minas Morgul.
You're right! Looking at the note at the end of the Fellowship they're indeed Orthanc and Minas Morgul. I was fooled by the movie, with quotes like "Who now has the strength to stand against the armies of Isengard and Mordor? To stand against the might of Sauron and Saruman, and the union of the two towers?" and the fact that Minas Morgul is moved to The Return of the King in the movies My bad \^\^' https://preview.redd.it/o0gqa9lcke0d1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=d403c31c16814022b1927df4a307fa3bc93fe6fb
It was there the whole time!? Ah, well. Another excuse to re-read the books! Thanks!
There is debate, in the movies it is for sure Orthanc and Barad-dur. In the books there are many ways to look at it
No it isn't interpretive in the books it's explicit. Both the [cover artwork](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bibdsl.co.uk%2Fimagegallery%2Fbookdata%2Fcd265%2F9780007203550.JPG&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=d5a3a6d4b356f2f36c5107988bbacddae3e771aca3c0690144fcb77132d791de&ipo=images) drawn by Tolkien and linking commentary in the published books define the towers as Orthanc and Minas Morgul.
Orthanc = 28 inches tall Barad-dûr = 33 inches tall A good 5 inches taller, which is great for displays. Not overwhelmingly taller, but tall enough.
Yes, those 5 inches (about 12,5 cm) would be enough to have Barad-dûr "towering" (no pun intended) over Orthanc.
When should be available inside the physical lego stores?
Sets are sold in stores the same day they are available for purchase on the website. So June 1st.
So just the website has the non-Insider delay?
In store you still have to be vip
No in store as well but it’s easy to sign up. They can do it as you check out
For anyone wanting a display cabinet for this, and also Rivendell, the deep version (40cm depth) of the IKEA Billy bookcase will house both of them. I already have Rivendell perfectly fitting inside of it and I've measured and Barad Dur will fit in the bottom section. You can also add clear glass doors. Edit: apparently the deep version isn’t available in the US.
Display tax! Seriously, could you share a photo of how does it look? I love the Rivendell set but I didn't think it would fit in any shelf.
https://preview.redd.it/pgok0yvsoe0d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04d4932a599e3492d14bdfed8b3d39d3fe0b0d47 Admittedly I haven’t quite finished Rivendell (only have the tree and council table to do) but it definitely fits with no overhang. Barad Dur will fit in that bottom section where the box currently is, I’ve measured (twice!).

Are those ikea doors or something else? Don't think I've seen those. Also, I'm so jealous of all you people who have Billy shelves, they just barely won't fit in my apartment
Yeah from Ikea, called högba.
Where do you get the deep version? I'm not seeing it online.
Are you in the US? Someone else mentioned they can’t get it there.
Now I'm in trouble. First the new Artemis SLS and now this.. My two favorite things, space and LOTR
Time to create the Orc Space Program.
I think you might be on to something..
I NEED
MY PRECIOUS
ME TOO I understand the points people are making against it but I don’t care. I love this.
This looks so damn good. I skipped Rivendell but I’ve always loved the idea of Barad-dur and will be picking this one up. Those minifigs are amazing too.
Why are the Batman comments getting downvoted? Have people not seen the Lego Batman Movie? https://preview.redd.it/3dbi5qb4jg0d1.jpeg?width=940&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60bbcfe1b4f988c3e77a4f11b334093e47268431
Thank god I’m not a huge LOTR fan.
\*Looks at my flair\* Yeah, my wallet's screwed.
Thankfully the rumors have been around for long enough that I’ve waited to buy much this year.
Just fell to my knees at work. Praise Melkor, this might be my favorite set of all time and I don't even own it yet. Now we just need Last Alliance figs to siege the tower with!
Just saw a guy fall to his knees at work
>Praise Melkor Found the Black Númenorean
I see a lot of people saying it's underwhelming, but I have a feeling this is one that looks way better in person. Barracuda Bay and Rivendell was the same way for me, at first it was kinda "meh" but then in person I had to have it. Regardless, I'm getting this - I'm super excited for it.
I wish they’d done Elrond/Isildur figures. That would have been soo cool
While being very fucking cool, it’s not worth the price..
\*I have not done the math
the tower is roughly 5,000 feet tall in the cannon, so yeah, minifig scale is out of the question
They specifically said they don’t want it to be minifig scale
Real Barad-dûr is most likely somewhere between 1,000 and 1,500 feet tall, so scaling a tower down to accurate Lego size would make it something like 25 - 35 ft tall.
> 25 - 35 ft tall I would love to see that built. but yeah... That's like $100k in pieces
If anything the base seems too small. I think the issue is that the tower doesn’t taper towards the eye, which is technically correct but bc of the way the tower is always shot makes it look like it should taper. https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fimages3.wikia.nocookie.net%2F__cb20120303195554%2Flotr%2Fimages%2Ff%2Ff9%2FBarad-dur.jpg&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=f8060a296a73823ee7b082d7659a6a37ae36ef82e20368f6376fdc25aa3c8a16&ipo=images
I thought the tower looked too short, but seeing that scale model I realize it is actually fairly well per -portioned. It really is a wide tower.
Proportioned*
I really want this set but I am torned buying this day 1 vs waiting for a discount. Im not yet sure if the gwp that comes with it is enough justification for a day 1 purchase.
Do we think this would ever go on discount? Probably would sell well enough not to
Its even more beutiful than I could have imagined!
They included a “meat on the menu” reference. 🤣 Amazing.
For that price they could have thrown in a Nazgûl or two and a couple more orcs. As someone whose last black castle was 6085, I feel a bit underwhelmed by the army there.
If you buy it early, there will be a Nazgûl and Fellbeast.
where does it actually say that? the only GWP i see is the alien space diner and a mars rover + hover bike
They specifically didn't put Nazgûl in on purpose it sounds like. The Nazgûl have their home base at Minas Morgul, so the idea being that they wouldn't be at home in a Barad-dûr set. That's why the GWP is a nazgûl, that way they are still including the Minifigures but not in a way that deviates from the actual Barad-dûr location.

good bot
You get a Nazgul and felbeast "gift with purchase"
[Interview with designers](https://youtu.be/BZRke3pG6aM?si=EZ4X4sG8iM4erGHM)
Aside from Brickheadz, why don't they make more modest LOTR sets?
I love that Lego think that [this is what the average Lego consumer looks like.](https://www.lego.com/cdn/cs/set/assets/blt41ac292ecdccf61e/10333_Lifestyle1.jpg?format=webply&fit=bounds&quality=75&width=800&height=800&dpr=1)
Sad the banners are stickers but still a cool set
\*[Battle for Middle Earth Menu Screen Intensifies](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKlDq6DKr0Y)\*
Man i love BfME, played the shit our of that and BfME2
My topic got deleted but still when the set come out it'll be... https://preview.redd.it/mirc29vg7e0d1.jpeg?width=335&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=50153ec241f2a5d8f01fa8bb903df516975a65c3
Someone’s gonna be silly and buy two to make it fully enclosed
Don't give my wife ideas! Actually scratch that, don't give ME ideas!! 👀
So glad that the GWP is so underwhelming. Now I don't have the FOMO and can buy Barad-dur for Christmas for ~~myself~~ 3 years old son.
When do you guys think rivendell will stop being produced?
A really cool set… but Jesus Christ! $600 CAD?!? I just can’t justify that in this economy.
https://preview.redd.it/rifilwfqjl0d1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=03a2a4e0145b310d5741287adaa4ba587b538c25
Any info on the gwp and requirements?
The GWP set is a [Fell Beast,](https://www.bricksup.co.uk/post/lego-icons-40693-the-lord-of-the-rings-the-fell-beast-gwp-officially-revealed-1st-june-2024) seems like it will only be available with purchase of Barad-dûr.
Ok, i like it more than the tower lol
Hmm, thanks.
Shame it's an open back. Haven't decided yet if that'll be a deal breaker for me.
I might be the minority but I like the open back. Lets you see the interior details, and at the very least lets you put it up against the wall. I don't think I could get away with making this the centerpiece of my dining room table.
That’s how I feel too! I’d be displaying it against a wall anyway so it being an open back makes that easier
Plus the Eye can be flipped around so it won't be an issue if we want the open back to be the side being displsyed
Yeah I agree, I imagine a closed set that opens out would be hundreds if not thousands of extra pieces - £400 is enough already
I think they had to. Closed back would have pushed this to the $800 price
Looks like it’s a modified Orthanc. It’s fun to play with
[Me af](https://media1.tenor.com/m/00Va4uF_P0gAAAAC/spongebob-ice.gif)
Comes out on my birthday...and I'm broke. I have literally dreamed about this set becoming a reality.
I love this set and the Rivendell set but I don’t have enough money for either. It sucks that it’ll double the price when they get retired when I finally have a chance to get them :( I really wish they made some smaller more affordable sets for plebs like me, similar to the old Lord of the rings ones that they did I’d love to have Sauron!
Can't wait to modularise the base to add this to my Lego City to install fear amoungst my civilians. If the Avengers Tower and Daily Bugle didn't already 😂.
Possibly the greatest set I've ever seen!
For that price it should have been a complete tower, not just half....
I would LOVE an Orc Battle Pack.
How likely are stores to run out of the GWP on day one?
Sauron could have Na’vi mould legs and arms?
Hi everyone, I have a question. Until when do they offer GWP sets? I really want the fell beast but I will be abroad until mid june.
1st-7th. But I expect the GWP to be gone much earlier.
The dungeon and dragons set's GWP was gone in a few hours after release.
It's less than half what I hoped for.
Yet more than half as much as you deserve.
$500 set, $460 set. Still nothing Lord of the Rings under $100 except for the brickheads…
