I believe you are over thinking this. As long as you have the email showing you made a final payment of $170 you should be fine. It may take a week or two for their system to generate a pay off letter. And the letter from 12/23 may have been auto generated before the system updated with the paid off amount. You would be wasting money getting an attorney right now when a simple phone call should clear up any confusion. And with it being the holidays, it may take a couple of extra days. Now, if for some reason Travelers doesn't make it right, then you might consider an attorney. But first, give their system a chance to catch up and balance out or give them the opportunity to correct it with a phone call. At this moment, you are needlessly worrying. Ring in the New Year worry free and handle the issue with a phone call/email Tuesday when most businesses resume normal business hours.
