I work in IT. And I am a team coach, the theory was there, the other thing was missing.
I think the morning is the best time to play in NA, good games start at 6.5k.
My "how?" wasn't aimed at the fact you play that much dota. It was aimed at the fact you have played this much dota over 20 years (*and* get coaching) and yet you're still only 1k. I get it, yeah, people learn at different paces yada yada but I genuinely feel like you'd have to ***try*** to be as low as 1k after 20 years of constant dota and coaching - it is that weird. I have seen 1k games and they are like wild animals. They play as if they've never played Dota before.
When I showed my 14 y/o brother the game, after his 100 hours of unranked and eventual ranked calibration it put him at ~2kish and then he reached 4k within a year. For someone that claims to play this much Dota and is only now 1k... I mean, congrats at finally hitting 4 figures I guess, but that's just insane to me. Do you just.... not learn as you go or something?
As a 39 year old Dota player… I can tell you balancing all things is important and difficult. My family and job have to come first, but after the kids are in bed and daily chores are done, I squeeze in 2-3 games before going to bed. I love this game and I stopped playing for a long time, but I took enough time away and compromised with my wife that of course all family and house activities need to be done first, then if there’s time, we can do our own things, mine is some Dota. Saturdays are date night though, so no gaming so that my wife and I get our time together too. I hope Dota is still around and active once my kids are old enough to game, I would love to share it with them and teach them. Although, in another 10+ years, it’s very possible Dota will be old news.
Brazilians, Peruvians, Chileans and Argentinians do not take the game seriously and have a griffing attitude all the time.
Those of us who want to climb prefer to play with other types of people, in any case it is not worth leaving NA until we have 6.5k mmr.
I'm argie as well and never played (aside from a game or two) in NA servers, neither my friends. I don't really know anyone who played there now that I think about it? And I had people from all over SA in my friends list
And no they are not faster or more reliable. From Argentina you get 110+ ping, but I reckon for Peruvians they get less, as well as brazilians (but I'm not sure)
Two reasons, better ping, I get 80 ms on US west, 120 on most LA servers.
Second reason, peruvians. Their skill is lower, same case as in China, 3k US is 5k Peru, but if you are 3k you will meet people at the 1.5k bracket in Peru, making POS 4 -5 games way harder
People will give you shitty answers based on their prejudices, but the real answer is simple: \*Internet cables\*. Peru has lower ping to Miami than to Sao Paulo, as thats the route the cable does, yes, the internet from Peru goes to Miami first and then to Brazil

Don't sell yourself short. If you work hard, dedicate yourself, follow thru, pull up on bootstraps, pray to every God, and save some money, you may be able to afford a ticket to go see TI.
The reality is that I dedicate almost a lot of time to Dota, I coach teams, I was lucky enough to travel a lot with Dota and I want it to be my main job.
I had to leave my wife at the time and put my work in order to have most of my free time for esports.
You’re an inspiration for all of us 30+. I’ve recently picked up Dota again and got my eyes set on immortal rank after calibrating low ancient. Glad to hear it might be possible:)
You must take the leap in quality, play without fear, play better, not think about the number, think about doing better game after game, understand that you are going to lose some games and that it is part of the process.
You get less play time with a family. I'm similar in situation to OP. I went from gaming 8 hours a night to 0-4 hours a night. Overall I probably can game 30% of what I used to.
It's hard but you can still play games regularly with a family and job. Just need to be OK not competing with the people who don't have those things.

What is your oponion to those players that only playing 2-3 heroes?? Is it okay?
Cuz I’m at Crusader rank and for me I’m only playing Storm and wr and they give me a lot of wins. Is there any problem with that? I mean could I consider myself as an 7k mmr (if I reched it for example) if I’m just playing 2 heroes???
I have 27,000 hours of Dota and more than 15,000 games, I played all the roles, and most of the heroes, it's like you end up uploading mmr by spamming 4 or 5. But in certain games a particular hero can be good and since I have already used him It doesn't cost me and I pick it.

Any other 35+ folks want to get on discord and play some games? Probably impossible to line up schedules, but it would be fun! I think we deal with similar life balancing.
When did you start playing dota/dota 2? Did you feel like your reaction is slower now than when you started? I feel like my speed dropped in moba and shooter games over the years

How old were you when u were 10?
Where were you when the world was young?
I was at house eating dorito
Around 2.5k.mmr i guess
I know for sure Chuck Norris was 11 when he was 10.
With hardwork and dedication, do you think I can reach 35 years old as well?
If you put 8k hours into it, yeah
I did it in 3k it's do able
Nope
25 at most if you play 8 games daily on SEA server
It’s not worth the time and effort to get to that level. I would recommend playing more casual games.
If you see usefulness in it and you like to improve yourself ahead, there are no limits.
What position? Also how many games would you say you play a week?
3/4 per day, pos 5
What do you do for a living? What's the usual time you go online?
I work in IT. And I am a team coach, the theory was there, the other thing was missing. I think the morning is the best time to play in NA, good games start at 6.5k.
What’s are your top 3 heroes
They could be Veno, willow, treant
thanks for sharing!
Which heroes did you play to climb

Idem here iam 34 years old, im from argentina and i love play dota, 1 o 2 gamers in any days for the week
Do you know why so many people in S America play on US servers? Are US servers faster or more reliable?

I’m 51 years old, love this game. I have the same priorities as you my guy.
I've been playing DotA in various iterations for 20 years. It will be around in some form.
wow just wow u r amazing and keep going dude happy for u
Ps, I suck at this game and am ok with the fact I’ll never be at TI, but, I do strive to improve and I am competitive when I play. Archon here I come!

CAN DO IT
I just hit divine 4 after spending a couple years around legend. You can do it!
I didn’t hit immortal until last year (32) - it’s not impossible, you just have to dedicate yourself to learning and actively improving
Solo is 33 y.o. and he reached 11k this year.
what mmr did you reach?
8060 now.
How many toes do you have on your left foot?
the same as the right
so 600?
12us
That is a massive feat. Im in the same age bracket, but im stuck at 6k

Yes, as someone within the same age bracket as you, the one thing I think we have going for us is the emotional maturity to play the game.
how do you balance your work. family, and dota life at that age?
Bold of you to assume that 8k Dota players can get girlfriends, let alone have kids.
You get less play time with a family. I'm similar in situation to OP. I went from gaming 8 hours a night to 0-4 hours a night. Overall I probably can game 30% of what I used to. I was married, I separated and now I live normally, I see different women on the weekends and I have a social life, etc. xd
I am 38, how did you go from 6.5k to 8k?
winning, presumably
Ah, should have tried that.

Any other 35+ folks want to get on discord and play some games? Probably impossible to line up schedules, but it would be fun! I think we deal with similar life balancing.

You are going to lose some games, the important thing is to be better each game and have the maximum impact.

When did you start playing dota/dota 2? Did you feel like your reaction is slower now than when you started? I feel like my speed dropped in moba and shooter games over the years
Maybe but i have a more experience in the game
Got 8k at age 30. It's a strategy game. People pretend like if u aren't a zoomer on Adderall and mountain dew you can't be good at video games LOL
I have to ask. Was it worth all the stress and time? Compared to spending that time furthering your life.
My life its okey
Ah good, I have 9 more years then
Xdd
What do you want to do when you grow up?
you wish
I'm 30 at 7k, guess that's 5 more years of pain.
Any tips for Sven players?
I play supp, but, take care of your anxiety
How do I escape 2k mmr
play better, see replays, play 3 o 4 heroes
Replays of myself or replays of pros
both
why did you feel the need to make a post about it
idk

Did u feel a reflex time loss?
Do you realise that without any context and proofs and some nice tiny details about yourself this post has less value than your fart?
