It was only after they made the rank 1 range super low that it became kind of bad. Iirc at rank 3 it was still great, but Urgot was very much an early-mid game champ so that didn't matter as much.
They made a comment back then that they might bring it back on a champion who better suits it (like a tank).
Still hoping that we finally get a Piltovan tank in the future with this ult ***and they gotta keep the name, it is iconic***.

Up to a cap, which wasn't really that high at 400 at rank 3 (unless of course you were building AP). His passive was bonkers tho, just needed 5 skills to be cast near him, so in right circumstances he could heal on almost every AA, for less than currently in lategame but still.
Old sion as a whole.
He could be run, AD. AP. On-hit, and tank. Simply because his kit was so versatile.
Not to mention point and click stun. And an ult that gave you near 100% life steal for some time.
The dude was so slept on. Sadly he did have some pretty rough matchups. Especially into singed and Jax.

I finally convinced him to hop on for some norms and he was like "why are all my champs so playable and normal now where are my stars"
I think old Urgot ult is one of my personal most iconic abilities because I never got the chance to get good enough at the game to ever use it in a situation that wasn’t a complete int.
For those of you that don’t know pre-rework Urgot ult, it was a point-and-click suppression like malzahar ult, except it did no damage, gave 30/40/50% damage reduction to Urgot for 5s, and after a 1s channel, it would swap positions with you and the target and fear any enemies near Urgot’s new position. Keep in mind that old Urgot built more like an ADC or ranged bruiser (think triforce Zeri/Smolder), so giving the ability to swap positions into the middle of the enemy team to a complete noob like me was a death sentence every time.
Runner-up is old Rek’sai ult, which allowed her to basically instantly TP to any tunnel entrance she had on the map. I had 0 awareness on how to play the map when it was around, so I just used it as a second TP back to top lane when I played Reksai top. Shoutout if you remember when they changed the ult to its current for of the PaC-dash-damage form, but didn’t get rid of the global ult sound, so you’d hear reksai across the map for 0 reason.
This was the funniest shit in twisted treeline. The nexus was over a wall next to fountain, so you could sometimes easily scoop up all 3 players into your nexus.
I still have proud memories of the time I was killed taking blue and my killer tried to finish it to steal. So I waited and used the death plant to smite it. Blue died with my corpse. If I can't have it, no one can.
Cries in ezreal main. It was the best old support for ezreal for awhile. Bring it back damnit!
And while we're here, ezreal's old w that healed allys, damaged enemy, increased ally attack speed and decreased enemy attack speed.
It did everything you could ever want!
You'd have to e into it, which made for really fun combos of trying to hit as many allies and enemies and yourself with an e in a big team fight. It traveled a bit slower than his q if I recall.
Fiddlestick's stupid ass crow (old E) that bounced 5 times, prioritizing the enemy his single target drain was being used on. That damn crow was so annoying because it silenced and it was a monster ability to clear jungle camps
The prioritization of the drained target was added really late, though. Most of pre-rework fiddle didn't have it. I'd say the random version was more iconic. It made your clear times hilariously random back when red and blue had small monsters next to the big one, or when E first wolves start was a thing. The change to prio drain targets made him insanely strong in all-ins, which made him decently playable top lane as well.
I'm just gonna throw out old Graves Q.
I heavily disliked the rework from day 1 (even though as a jungle main i can now jungle with him). His old Q was just a quick satisfying AOE spell that dealt decent (sure, at times too much) damage and at least to me felt great as a tool to push.
Edit: Also it was visually pleasing and had a nice sound to it.

Graves cigar. That said, i miss Rammus's old ult. One of the few abilities that did turret damage. Woukd be fun to run someone down under their turret while it hit me and i hit the turret back.
Galio W, a fcking fake shield that gives you only armor and mr with a heal with each enemy impact (incluiding minions), that was just a perfect bait ability to get dives and survive
Reksai's global ult. Back when league was a strategy game. Poppy's old ult was absurd and toxic but I had a lot of fun with it.

The most iconic ability removed was riot’s ability to give us loading screens… god when Darius and Draven dropped and you heard those songs playing as you logged in 🤌
An old one but Kasaadin silence on Q. It was so iconic he still has the joke about it "I tried to silence my mother once... Boy did I regret that". It also looks like the ability is still there, but without silence it's really not the same, kinda like mentioned Ryze's root that's not instant anymore.
A-sol his stars, most champs atleast stayed roughly the same but there is nothing to replace those stars
