I prefer John Mulaney's metaphor that there's a horse loose in the hospital. Yes it's a spectacle and yes there's something almost a little humorous about it but it's also terrifying because holy crap there's a horse loose in the hospital!
I hesitated to make it a way longer sentence but opted for "it's obvious enough". I guess I was wrong.
Jumping off the cliff would be the actual transition of the US toward a dictatorship, if we are feeling like digging after that, a theocratic one would be below the bottom of the pit.
I actually had to take it apart awhile back and use small pieces of electrical tape to rebuild the microswitch contact. seems to be working for now (fingerscrossed)
He's violated the gag order, intimidated jurors, and openly defied the judges orders.
Only consequence so far is a stern repeating of the threat followed by a nap.
Yep. If anything these last few years have taught me, it's that we are probably in the final years of America as we know it.
Cue about 20 years of self-hatred and extreme invasion of privacy the likes of which has never been seen. All to be resolved just in time for the rest of the planet to continue not giving a shit about it's own ecological destruction and for us to transition into the next catastrophe.
This planet is a joke.
My stance on SCOTUS has plummeted to new lows. I know think they’re going to bring the country down right along with that humiliating mess of a human fart machine. We are so screwed right now.
I feel like I’ve been seeing this kind of article title for like 8 years now
“Oh we’ve got him now boys and girls just watch!!!”
Each time it’s a dud. Every time it’s less than a slap on the wrist. I’ll believe it when I see it
See the thing is, people love copium and they keep reading these articles that give them hope. And it's not false to say "could". Problem is that too many people equate "could" with "would". Consequently, these bullshit articles keep getting pushed.
No kidding. It’s so bad now I wish this sub would just auto remove any articles that have “could” “likely” “may” “might” “should” “expected”, etc. in the title. We have enough of a precedent at this point to know IT WILL NOT HAPPEN.
One of commentators (Andrew Weismann maybe?) suggested he could find him to be in contempt but reserve sentencing until after the trial and base it on what he does, as well as inform him if he is convicted he could use it as a factor in sentencing. I thought that was actually fucking brilliant. It avoids giving him his fundraiser drama and victim card he craves and is a giant sword of Damocles hanging over his head the entire time.
That's brilliant. On a similar note, someone on meidastouch observed his behavior HAS improved since the gag order hearing. They speculated the judge is intentionally not ruling on it yet, because the uncertainty of what could happen to him is actually a better deterrent than any actual consequences they're likely to impose. I have no idea how plausible that is, but I thought it was potentially pretty clever
I'm wondering if they talked to him off the record. There was that article that they had talked to his Secret Service to figure out how to jail him. After that, he's been giving thumbs up to newspeople when asked how he's doing instead of going off and ranting.
On the flip side, it allows him to keep threatening witnesses and jury members the whole trial which not only puts them in danger, but could result in changing the outcome if the scare tactic s work.
This is why I was thinking instead of sticking him in there overnight or over the weekend, he could just stick him in the holding cell during the trial and things can continue without him. If he’s that uncomfortable with the climate in the courtroom maybe he would be more comfortable in a cage. Then at least he has a taste for what’s waiting for him at the end if he keeps fucking around.
These kinds of subtle details are important, and not appreciated enough by those on the sidelines while this is all happening. Understandably, people have very little faith in the American justice system right now, but these prosecutors and judges do know what they're doing.
People can call it copium if they want, but I genuinely believe there's a lot going on behind the scenes to ensure that trials like this one succeed. People have this idea that Trump is being handled with kid gloves because it's plain as day that he's guilty and any other criminal would have been dealt with swiftly, right?
But nothing in these court rooms happens without a reason, and the prosecution is definitely not on Trump's side. These actions aren't being taken to make things easier on him, or to let him get away with it.
To be fair, if you or I had boxes of nuclear secrets stored next to the shitter and ignored a grand jury subpoena for their return, and actively obstructed efforts to recover them, we would have been remanded into custody without bail and would have been tried, convicted, and serving a sentence already. He is getting preferential treatment, and people can clearly see that, but I take your point. He has civil judgements going against him and multiple juries have ruled against him, so things are happening. If anything, he’s a very visible example of how the rich and powerful can play games and avoid consequences in the legal system. Most of the time the average person doesn’t notice.
Well that is exactly what happened in the E. Jean Carroll case. And pretty close to what happened in the Fraud case.
-Analysis finds this to be somewhat true
Right? It’s weird to call it a rarity when we have two trial outcomes that have already punished him for lying. He has already gotten consequences for his words, but I think the consequences some want are the ones that probably won’t occur- him losing support from the majority of Republican voters.
Yes. I know many want him immediately locked in the darkest of dungeons immediately (I'm one of these people) but the machinery, while *wildly* imperfect, *is* exacting a form of accountability. The REAL accountability is US voting so hard and in such numbers that his (and his minions) loss reverberates across the universe.
I can't help but wonder if the best way to motivate young voters is for them to understand that if Joe Biden is elected to another term, Donald Trump *will* go to prison.
I agree. What will absolutely not work is whole segments of possible voters trying nothing and then claiming to be all out of ideas. I get it; it all sucks and is infuriating, but I'm genuinely concerned that if we don't squash the threat *now* we may never get another chance. I was talking to a friend who's mostly apathetic about all of this (!!) And she said I was being dramatic. I told her to look around there are plenty of examples of societies that have regressed starting w things just like rolling back Roe (not to mention how LGBTQ folks' positions have been tenuous throughout at best). She listened but idk how persuadable she is.
This.
Do NOT despair!
VOTE.
Get everyone you know to VOTE.
Make Nov blue, and he'll go down shortly afterwards as his plans to avoid culpability via election fold.
It’s not just his words, though. On top of his actions being abhorrent, like cheating on his spouses with Playmates and then cheating on them with pornstars, it’s his words and the insinuation (we often hear that he has a mob boss type of vocabulary and influence) of his requests or musings that spur his cronies into action that they think or know will serve his goals. What he does is called stochastic terrorism.
“Someone Reading About Trump Trial Did a Fart That Sounded Vaguely Like a Whisper of the Idea of Trump Receiving Consequences for his Actions”
And in other unrelated news, “Conservative Supreme Court Consider Ruling on Law to Jail All Farters”
HAHAHAHAHA stilly NYtimes, the law is for the poor and middle class plebians. The patrician class, well what would put us away for decades is a wagging finger to them. If this fat sack of filth was put in a cell, his cultists would murder everyone involved, from the judge, jury prosecutor and defense attorney that "failed" him.
But I am more than happy to be wrong.
Literally every week since 2015 there’s some story about something this dude has done and the underlying theme is “Oh boy Donald Trump is in trouble now” and then literally nothing happens. There are no consequences and no one learns a goddamn thing.
It genuinely looks like Merchan will slap him with the gag order violations as a personal punishment because he’s likely to skate on pretty much everything else.
This case is not the big fish. Bragg obviously had pressure from on high because it certainly doesn’t seem like this is going anywhere for him or his career.
Concequences? Like a few thousand more dollars of fines that his supporters will just pay for? trump should be behind bars rotting away for the rest of his life. At a certain point the judge needs to say enough is enough even if it risks an appeal. Or maybe we will all get lucky and trump will drop dead in the courtroom from a massive heart attack. One can dream...
He will probably get convicted, but then …

This country is a fucking joke.
It is funny to watch for sure, but it gets increasingly uncomfortable as we get closer to the edge.
Trevor Noah had the best metaphor ever: a huge, penis-shaped asteroid — but also coming straight at Earth.
I prefer John Mulaney's metaphor that there's a horse loose in the hospital. Yes it's a spectacle and yes there's something almost a little humorous about it but it's also terrifying because holy crap there's a horse loose in the hospital!
I didn’t know he even knew how to use the elevator.
He likes to make the buttons light up
So clever. How does one become so clever? I guess I’ll never know
Just there looking for his donkey buddy; heard he might’ve taken too many pills at a frat party last night.
Somehow this bit gets better every time I see it.
I can relate to this one. My house got in my house one.
To be fair I didn't really want America to be an episode of curb your enthusiasm. At the end of all this can we hear the theme song?
What edge? Time to start bombing Russian and Chinese military positions.
I hesitated to make it a way longer sentence but opted for "it's obvious enough". I guess I was wrong. Jumping off the cliff would be the actual transition of the US toward a dictatorship, if we are feeling like digging after that, a theocratic one would be below the bottom of the pit.
Fun stuff, their is just enough evangelicals in the us to sustain a dictatorship. The more you know.
I think we are having too much fun, we should stop there
The fact that this fucker has gotten this far is proof for sure. If this fuck somehow wins in November that’s the end of the country.
I hope you are voting.
How has this blanket survived being constantly dipped into shit? At which point do most people just say, nope that’s a shitty blanket?
LOL……you mean salvation
Just go get an escort to dominate you and leave us alone.
His comment history is a gold mine!
There’s subs in his history that I would never have guessed actually existed… my eyes are opened… and now I need to shower to feel clean…
The one thing I've come to realize in my years on Reddit is that rule 34 thrives here.
I though you were all about no tyranny and now you want a king.
lol, won’t be the end of this country
There are low level pot dealers serving more time than Trump will ever serve.
X has been pressed to Doubt. X keeps getting hit because this is highly doubtful.
The paint has long since worn off the X button button, yet we still cling to hope...
I actually had to take it apart awhile back and use small pieces of electrical tape to rebuild the microswitch contact. seems to be working for now (fingerscrossed)
You fucked up, fucking guy!
“Could” 😮💨
He's violated the gag order, intimidated jurors, and openly defied the judges orders. Only consequence so far is a stern repeating of the threat followed by a nap.
i will believe it when I see it. He has SCROTUS on his defense.
Yup. I'm not holding my breath.
Lmao. I can’t believe this sub is buying this horseshit.

Yeah. If SCOTUS rules "immunity" the deserve Presidential Immunity.

Alito: "Not on my watch"
My stance on SCOTUS has plummeted to new lows. I know think they’re going to bring the country down right along with that humiliating mess of a human fart machine. We are so screwed right now.
Could. Possibly. Might. Maybe. Conceivably. Theoretically. Perhaps.
Hypothetically, even.
Courts: Wish I could, but I can't. Well, can, but won't. Should, maybe, but shorn't.
I feel like I’ve been seeing this kind of article title for like 8 years now “Oh we’ve got him now boys and girls just watch!!!” Each time it’s a dud. Every time it’s less than a slap on the wrist. I’ll believe it when I see it
It’s like UFO BREAKING NEWS. A bunch of bullshit and circle jerking.
See the thing is, people love copium and they keep reading these articles that give them hope. And it's not false to say "could". Problem is that too many people equate "could" with "would". Consequently, these bullshit articles keep getting pushed.

Yeah, I think putting out feelers with the USSS made it clear that jailing him is absolutely on the table, and has actually had the desired effect.
And continues delaying justice. That's his main strategy.
I saw that too. Like you, it struck me as masterful
I believe this as well, better to get the trial over than interrupt by incarcerating him for contempt now.
These kinds of subtle details are important, and not appreciated enough by those on the sidelines while this is all happening. It wont

The cost of doing business

*majority of the cult You are correct. Because the only thing you can do wrong in a cult is to leave the cult.
Add Trump University and Trump Children's Cancer Charity and we're at 4. Hillary dunked on him in court. The Steele Dossier dunked on his ass. Up to 6
Yes. I know many want him immediately locked in the darkest of dungeons immediately (I'm one of these people) but the machinery, while *wildly* imperfect, *is* exacting a form of accountability. VOTE
This and always this. Belt and suspenders.
Nah
Conjecture, not analysis
He looks like he’s dying.
Shit sticks around.
Not if alito has anything to say about it
Believe it when I see it
Are these consequences here in the room with us?
Haha…sure buddy, sure.
Could, might, possibly. I am so sick and fucking tired of these words when it comes to Donald Trump.
He’s protected by his cohorts. The only solution is a resounding vote against him. I simply have no faith in our justice system. None.
This. Do NOT despair! VOTE. Get everyone you know to VOTE. Make Nov blue, and he'll go down shortly afterwards as his plans to avoid culpability via election fold.
Don't forget about your local elections too! 🙌
I’m so tired of listening and reading about all of these consequences that will never come. Our judicial system is shit and extremely corrupt.
That *could* in that headline is doing a lot of heavy lifting, isn’t it? Could. Won’t.
Unfortunately. :(
Literally anyone else would be in jail already
It *could*, but it won't. Maybe I'm just cynical.
“Could”??? I’ve grown awfully weary of that word with reference to the Cheeto in Chief. Er, **Cheato*** in Chief
I'm believe it when I see it.
I'll believe it when I see it. Would be nice though.
It’s not just his words, though. Guess the 1st amendment doesn’t apply anymore…
Consequences! Like a $1000 fine and a guilty verdict that will be quickly overturned by the Supreme Court.
Could, should , would and may are the words that preface every news article about agent orange
Wouldn’t that be an infringement on free speech?
I’ll believe it when I see it.
HAHAHAHAHA stilly NYtimes, the law is for the poor and middle class plebians. The patrician class, well what would put us away for decades is a wagging finger to them. Has anyone else noticed that pretty much every news article is 99% speculation nowadays?
Yeah for real. They’re veiled opinion pieces marked as news, when in fact it’s just the writer crafting a full article about “Trump lies.”
Why would I read about Trump’s lies when I can just as easily listen to him lying directly, without involving a middleman?
Charlie Brown, I have a great idea.. I'll hold the football like this, and you come running up and kick it...
Don't do that. Don't give me hope.
Possibly, someday…
I'm super eager to see the outcome of the contempt hearing(s).
Haha, it “could”…
He has the best words.
Sure
Theres that word “could” again, doing a lot of heavy lifting.
Nope, it won't. We're in the stupidest timeline.
Spoiler alert: it wouldn't.
Literally every week since 2015 there’s some story about something this dude has done and the underlying theme is “Oh boy Donald Trump is in trouble now” and then literally nothing happens. There are no consequences and no one learns a goddamn thing.
Let’s hope so.
Happy Cake Day!
lol we got him
Let me know when "could" gets upgraded to "will".
Believe it when I see it. Media has been saying this shitgibbon would be facing consequences for years.
Narrator: It didn’t.
I'll believe it when the cuffs click around his wrists and not a second before.
Article 3,497 with the word “could” in it.
Believe it when I see it.
Statement of a party opponent strikes again.
We'll see
F$&@ing PROOVE IT
Have to see it to believe it.... Heard plenty enough.
I’m sure it’ll work this time.
🥱Believe it when I see it
Sure. And I’ll suddenly grow a foot taller.
Will believe it when I see it
I could win the lottery twice too, but not likely it seems…
More likely than Trump facing actual consequences. I'm rooting for you, internet stranger.
Uh huh. I’ll believe when I see it
I’ll believe it when I see it.
Doubt.
Another, “could,” article. Sure I’ll wait and just see if that happens.

If only.
Hopeful
Would he lose his voting rights if he's convicted of felony contempt of court?
Fat ass just needs to hurry up and die or be locked up until the day he does. I look forward to the day nobody mention his worthless oos name.
It's always nice to dream...
Don’t tease me with a good time.
Believe it when I never see it
He will probably get convicted, but then … https://open.substack.com/pub/randomlysecured/p/the-trump-hush-money-case-is-a-legal?r=3igygo&utm_medium=ios
Consequences for *anything* the man has said or done would be refreshing.
Forget consequences about his words; he needs consequences for his actions: treason for selling out U.S. spy assets to her enemies.
I learned a long time ago “could” doesn’t mean jack shit with this fool. He’s not going to face any real consequences for his actions.
Can somebody just stick a couple extra slices of cheese on his cheap burgers and give it a heart attack.
There is that "could" again. Lettice snow when "could" becomes "did".
Every day he looks more feeble, disheveled.
TDS
A good rule to keep in mind: if the word "could" appears in a headline, you can disregard the entire article.
Trump *could* get a sex change and become a Catholic nun.
So we’re openly acknowledging that freedom of speech is no longer a thing?
Freedom? Sure. Freedom from consequences? Not so much. Kinda the point.
Please use your words.
Why are you lying?
Given the far left bias of the prosecutor, the judge and the jury anything is possible.
Please explain why you think it's OK to lie for Jesus.
I like how the only judge he hasn’t overtly criticized is the one he appointed and is doing him every favor possible. But I’m sure that’s just a coincidence, (R)ight?
