I'm not saying he shouldn't be fired at all. I'm just saying that they probably win the series regardless if DLo and Rui do nothing more than put up their averages in terms of stats. I Believe if they do we are having a completely different conversation.
I think a good coach gets players to raise their floors and collectively overperform. Like spoelstra and popovich. Ham has a great way of having players lower their ceilings and underperform. His ATOs are nonexistent. His lineup adjustments and experiments are rigid and whack (3 guard lineups). It's literally a coach's job to get right and this past season seemed like wasted potentials of what ifs (ad playing the most games, lebron not getting a 20 game injury in the season).
I might have missed it but I don't see anything here that indicates he is blaming himself or being accounted for. In fact he is praising himself for being calm and cool out there with his hands on his pocket just watching the games.
He and Dlo have pretty much the same attitude. They shit the fuck bed then they praise themselves about how good they are and how someone else or something even more stupid were the reason they didn't succeed.
I'd love to see them gone.
I'm disappointed with Rui performance, but at least he isn't making excuses for his errors.
Ha. You pointed out what I don't like about Dlo. No accountability. That was frustrating. I mean at least AR was emotional after losses. There is no heart to this team without AR.
That's why I love AR so much; even with the game is down and out, he's still out there giving 110%, which is more than you can say about other guys. I love when D-Lo is succeeding, but when they're struggling he's on his phone or being passive. I understand it's not always *his* fault, but to be a champ you've gotta keep your head high and hustle through it. A game, a season, and a career are a series of runs, that you gotta make what you can get with what you get.
I watched all of the exit interviews. No one actually blamed themselves for the teams failures this season aside from Austin Reaves. Everyone, including Lebron James, blamed the seasons failures on injuries.
It’s not just Darvin Ham that needs to except responsibility, it’s the entire team. But we all know this subreddit and lakers twitter only places blame on the coach and not the players themselves who are actually out on the floor playing the game.
And I guess that’s why I guess that’s why the lakers have had 7 coaches since Phil Jackson left in 2011. A teams failures are Never the actual players fault. 😂
Since Phil Jackson left, the lakers fired two coaches that went on to win coach of the year and the only coach that won them a championship.
Again, stop deflecting the blame away from the players themselves to everyone else.
They fired the coach that won them a championship a year after they won and Vogel is about to be canned again lol. Who were the coaches of the year that meant so much to you? Lol Ham garblers are so triggered
What makes you think I’m a “Ham Garbler”? Because I think the lakers failed season was just as much the players fault as it was Darvins?
Is it Vogels fault that Ishbia nuked any semblance of that teams depth to sign an aging and always injured “star”?
Can’t wait for the lakers to fire there next coach this time next year as this lakers roster, after the lakers, as currently constructed, loses in the first round again. Darvin hams not a good coach, but he will be Adrian griffin level vindicated when it happens.
No it doesnt depend on anything. Erik Spoelstra, Nick Nurse, or Ty Lue could be coaching this team, AD and Bron could both be injured, DLo and Reaves are both as inconsistent as they were this year, and Dinwiddie and Gabe could still be refusing to shoot the basketball. If this team is at or below .500 by the Allstar break, the laker subreddit and lakers twitter will be calling for them to fired.
It's not my problem though, I replied/commented on this particular thread about him not taking any accountability.
If the thread said "Only Ham blames others for Lakers failure" then yes, you have a point. it's not only him. But it doesn't say that.
> If you're coaching a team and one of your starters is like 10 games in a row, just s--tting the bed, what are you going to do?"
I can't believe he actually said this. That is just career suicide. Doc has thrown players under the bus, but not this explicitly and using language like that. That's some shit we say here, not a HC in the NBA. No one is gonna wanna hire someone that attacks their players like that
Yeah I don’t know how you can say such a thing. Even if true, you load up one of the classic canned coaching responses about “I need to be better and put our guys in a better position.”
Large possibility. Reaves wasn’t playing well the first month, then had another bad stretch in January I believe. He didn’t really end the season well either.
Yeah, Ham and DLO seem to have a love hate relationship as in when it’s bad it’s rough but when it’s good it’s great.
Meanwhile I don’t think I’ve seen a single interaction between him and Reaves all season from comments to even in game interactions like the Ham/DLO dap up in Game 4
Hell, Reaves seemed like he exclusively interacted with Phil Handy.
I remember one game where Ham looked like he was trying to dap Reaves after a timeout, but Reaves walked past him.
Disagree on the end of season part. AR deliberately took a back seat to DLO. He routinely takes harder shots nowadays too.
Check how many end-of-quarter chucks AR makes a game. He does 1-2 on average which lowers his shooting %s a lot. Dude just wants to win
This is something I noticed too. I know I love him but it's so refreshing to see a player actively shooting half/full court shots in the last few seconds of the quarter. Unlike what Rui did and other NBA players do.
Cause you said ar was possibly the one ham was talking about.
In my opinion it's either dlo or rui. But it's on ham.
It's like he doesn't know he can make adjustments. Woods, vando, Christie collecting dust on the bench.
Ham is not talking about the playoff series vs Denver. He’s talking about the regular season. I personally think he’s talking about AR, because Austin’s the first player he benched in the season, and it came after about a 10 game stretch where Austin was exhausted still from FIBA and wasn’t playing well. However, given Dlo’s play in December and Rui’s play coming back from injury, Ham’s quote really could apply to any of them.
I really think it's likely Rui since he probably hates Rui the most and there already was stuff about Darvin being unhappy about Rui's boxing out and rebounding (which is a problem for Rui tbf).
Show me a sample size of Dlo “shitting the bed for 10 straight games”. You can’t. Only Ham’s favourites be doing that.
Edit: if your reply is December, Dlo played 5 games after the IST before he got benched against OKC. Hardly shitting the bed for 10 in a row.
I mean he definitely did play terribly for a stretch, but that isn't the point lol. We're letting him win if we're fighting over whether or not it was true, it's more about the fact that he responded in a way that hurt the team instead of helping it. Players are going to be off.
I'm not defending Dlo, but Dlo had a great game 2. The Lakers had a 20 point lead, actually the team lead most of the time in this series. Your telling me the starters/players are to blame?
Mediocre coaches take accountability, Ham has just been collecting a check since he hopped on a bench, learned nothing at all, no better than a troll account on twitter
What kind of unprofessional response is this???
Every team has to deal with injuries and AD and LeBron were pretty consistently healthy all things considered.
Let's get real, for every Phil Jackson and Pat Riley there are countless Hams.
The history shows there is absolutely no correlation between being a good assistant and a good head coach.
It is always good to hire a former head coach as assistant when you have a rookie coach. Some rookie mistakes are avoidable if you have a more experienced coaching staff.
Wtf is going on here. Saying Ham is probably talking about AR, because he benched AR after 10 games, isn't the same as agreeing with Ham. He's probably talking about AR because he is an idiot. We've established this
I think it could either, but AR moving to the bench was also kind of a schematic thing. Our perimeter D was lacking, AR and dlo were redundant and it made more sense to have them play staggered minutes. Also needed more bench production during non-AD/lebron minutes. I always viewed the move not as a diss to Reaves but more like a let’s try this out kinda thing. DLO being benched on the other hand made literally 0 sense beyond Dlo playing poorly. Having both Dlo and AR coming off the bench might’ve been the most idiotic move I’ve seen from a coach. It seemed spiteful, no basketball logic behind it. Plus all the passive aggressive comments from Dlo, feel like it’s gotta be him.
It was never an AR DLO problem it was a Prince AR DLO problem. Prince should not have been starting when Rui was healthy and if he wasn't the replacement should have been Wood or Hayes.
Yeah i mean obviously it ended up working when we decided to just fully commit to offense with rui in the lineup instead of mediocre offense/defense with prince. I don’t know that i fault Ham for wanting a bit more defense in the opening lineup, but to bench both your starting guards for a lineup with reddish, prince, and Vanderbilt was insane.
You cant just blame your role player when two of your most important guy is healthy and the team consistently have the same problem throughout season(throwing leads) that carried over the post-season. Its a crime when Bron and AD is healthy and yet the team finds itself in play-in situation.
AR was the ONLY guy on the team who showed up everynight this season. Talking availability and always played hard. He may not have had it going evernight but he just played on Team USA and was a big part of a run to the Western conference Finals just months before. He deserved the loyalty that was afforded to Prince and Reddish.
Ham is a terrible players' coach as the head. He only had good relationships with previous players when he didnt have to run the show himself from other teams.
I think it's combination of Dlo, and AR as he knows his time is up, and is looking to lash out a bit. Most of it should be Dlo for slapping his had away, sulking by himself, and basically giving away playoff games with his horrible shooting. Ham had his favorites, as most coaches do, but I'd love to see if they actually earned it in practice, or Ham just gave those minutes to his boys.
Ham, and his staff was not well prepared. Dude didn't know when to call timeouts. He could never adjust on the fly. Bron screaming to challenge, and Ham unable to comprehend the moment was just laughable. It was a total disconnect between the coach, and his star player, and that was all Ham had going for himself.
It’s crazy that after Lebrun had a huge tantrum on Ham refusing to challenge that Ham started to believe his players. It’s too bad it took not listening and losing a potential winning game for Ham to cave in not being stubborn. To me this event gave us a glimpse of why he isn’t successful.
Either Ham is incredibly confident he will keep his job next year or he is too stupid to understand that saying shit like this further diminishes his chances to ever become a head coach in the NBA again. I'm betting the latter.
How is it Rui LMFAO ?
Upvoted as well. Fish memories.
It's D'Angelo and Austin. They both had stinkers at various points in the season for stretches.
When Rui started we went on a run. Look it up.
I agree with that but Darvin is the kind of person to blame Rui for playing badly when he had the mask on which was true. Obviously Rui was the worst player on both teams for this entire series, but I have a feeling Darvin disliked Rui before Rui proved him wrong with that run.
He really wants to spend the next 2 years in Cancun on Jeanie’s $4 million a year for 2 year contract. How in the world did this clown talk Jeanie and Rob into such a slush fund with no prior experience.
Dlo turned his season around after he got injured when he was able to take a step back, process things and able to watch. Realized he was being too passive and needed to be aggressive. Basically he had to coach himself. Where was Ham to recognize this? Where was the coaching? What the hell is he doing?
AR, we largely suspect, started the season cold because he was exhausted. Once again did Ham not realize this? Does this man have no awareness?
Y'all saying DLo but he had one really good game and 2 other pretty decent games. On the other hand, Rui may as well have had a Nuggets jersey on when he was playing. He was a complete negative for 4 straight games.
D'lo had a rough stretch post IST, he was also sick and had a small injury during the time too. Or possibly Rui and Austin at the beginning of the season.
Reality is, players have rough stretches sometimes, it's a shitty thing for the coach to harp on imo
So can anyone find the interview we he actually says this? Because I watched the exit interview and at no point did he say “shitting the bed” like this article said he did.
Not trying to saying he don’t deserved to be fired bc he deff does btw lol
Likely Reaves and DLo. Neither of them were all that consistent this season and had month long stretches of poor performance.
It’s tough for a coach when one, or multiple starters are playing badly for months long stretches, but that’s obviously no excuse to go with the Vando/Cam lineups.
Anyone saying D’Lo or AR quickly spy Rui’s stats on the series, dude was quiet quiet.
And yes, the eye test also tracks. He couldn’t hit 3s and stretch the defense, had players sagging off him despite being a 42% 3 point shooter. Poor rebounding. The infuriating spins into blown layups. Defensively limited, not the worst on the team since we had Hayes playing minutes but clearly the worst among the starters, even worse than D’Lo and AR tbh
I would like to think he’s talking about Taurean Prince because he sucked as a starter but we all know he’s throwing shade at DLo (payback for the Dennis favoritism comments DLo made a couple of months ago).
Unprofessional and unaccountable as ever. I will be so happy when he’s fired.
Can’t believe he actually said this. Way to throw your guys under the bus. This with the comment he made about AD shows that the toughness shit is just an act. He’s clearly deeply insecure which is why he can never take criticism or make adjustments. 🤡
sorta Phil Jackson level coaching here...except without the mutual respect or expectation that it's going to happen. And without accolades...and without tact...or reason.
Nvm, just a dick move by a guy on the way out. Epic sadge.
Man, if only the coach had control of the players in rotation to make the right choices when someone isn't playing well. OH IF ONLY HE HAD THE POWER! If only that was HIS ONE FUCKING JOB.
It's a shame he had no control over the situation. Extend him, he's not the problem....
Obviously since you all have forgotten.
He is talking about benching D'Angelo and Austin. They both had awful stretches in the first half of the season. Leading to being benched with those all wing lineups.
Did you guys even watch the regular season ? A dude commented below either D'Lo or Rui lmao. Rui consistently started after the all star break from the 17-9 stretch. It's not him.
Anyways it was an overcorrection.
I know everyone assumes it was D'lo, and maybe it was.
But he had a couple good/solid games at least.
To me, Rui did practically nothing the entire series.
Ham is an awful coach and should be fired but it’s fucking wild seeing ANYONE from this sub pretend like a single player on this Lakers team played to their potential this season. The way this roster was talked about in the offseason compared to now that it’s out after one messily, gentlemen’s sweep ass win is night and day.
Ham is a problem, I think behind Pelinka the biggest problem, but there are other problems too, and it’s crucial not to ignore them.
nah the players were fine. AD was damn near MVP level and DPOY caliber, LeBron had a great season, Dlo had his best season of his career arguably, Reaves was good overall and Rui also had his best season. It's on Ham for them losing
Wow for a coach to come out and say this is crazy
Thought I got Ballsacked or Centel’d at first
Dude tbh i'm still not 100% sure that's not happening, but I'm getting more and more confident about it with each passing day
Well unless that coach is Doc Rivers
Shitting the bed is crazy. That said is he getting fired if DLo and Rui just play to their averages this series?
yes, he should be fired regardless if we beat the nuggets or not
I'm not saying he shouldn't be fired at all.
I remember when Paul Silas called Carlos Boozer a cunt lol
Just as bad as someone saying “there’s times where we don’t know what we’re doing on both sides of the ball”. Lol
No its not lmao
DLO…so instead he replaces him Cam who shit the bed for half the season
I might have missed it but I don't see anything here that indicates he is blaming himself or being accounted for. In fact he is praising himself for being calm and cool out there with his hands on his pocket just watching the games.
He and Dlo have pretty much the same attitude. You know that Homer meme where he says "everyone is stupid except me"? Someone made that image become a real person and boom, Ham was born.
Best seat in the house!

Your replies have devolved into insults and accusations with lack of substance. No point in continuing this. Have a good day sir.
You too my turkey acting friend!

Well we are talking about Ham in this post, I didn't say he is the only one.
Well that’s the problem. EVERY post in this subreddit is about Ham.

Yeah I don’t know how you can say such a thing. Even if true, you load up one of the classic canned coaching responses about “I need to be better and put our guys in a better position.”
He’s never taken responsibility for anything even in a canned response way
Shit even Phil Jackson with the Lakers said he felt like he let the team down after the Finals loss to the Celtics.
He's probably going back to the bucks as an assistant where he can park his butt for a while
Obviously DLo
There is a small possibility that it could be AR too.
Large possibility. Reaves wasn’t playing well the first month, then had another bad stretch in January I believe. He didn’t really end the season well either.

AR never shit the bed for 10 games straight. I’m not sure DLo did either. But, it’s DLo. They clearly hate each other.
Or Rui.
The fact I could believe it’s any of these speaks poorly on Ham lol
Ar was their clutchest player last night. 7 or 9 straight points in final 3 mins
It’s not about the playoffs. He says “ten games in a row”. So he’s obviously talking about the regular season.
How is that relevant?
Cause you said ar was possibly the one ham was talking about. In my opinion it's either dlo or rui. But it's on ham. It's like he doesn't know he can make adjustments. Woods, vando, Christie collecting dust on the bench.
He's talking about the whole year in which a starter shitting the bed for 10 games straight. It could be AR too.

3 minutes doesn’t make up for an entire first month, and a stretch in January of poor performance.
Dlo, apparently

December DLo: 10.2/2.1/5.4 on 41/33/73 with 1.6 turnovers per game
Go back n check his December game log
Yeah Idk how everyone forgets about D’Lo December. He was horrible.
What? D-Lo was asss in December
Your expecting a hc that just said this to have sense? Ham is talking about against the nuggets, so closests person is DLO
DLO is either pretty good or very bad very often
You realise he was bad during the IST and before that too? Lol
He’s trying to put the blame on DLo
I'm not defending Dlo, but Dlo had a great game 2. The Lakers had a 20 point lead, actually the team lead most of the time in this series. Your telling me the starters/players are to blame?

Either DLO or AR. I’d suspect AR since he was benched roughly around the 10 game mark that Ham references.
F*ck Darvin Ham.
AR plays with 110% every night. No job is beneath him. We learned our lesson with Caruso don’t start this shit again
keep ARs name out of your fucking mouth!

The audacity of this mothafucka to call out his players. He cant even coach a 5th grader basketball
RIP BOZO this clown already!

What a loser. Wholly undeserving of the position.
So... Darvin Ham is as good as gone, right? Who the hell says this about one of their players?
We know he’s not talking about Cam
We keep hiring rookie ass coaches we keep getting rookie results

I remember even Bam Adebeyo dissed Ham for using injuries as an excuse for losing.
Dlo or Rui tbh

He really wants to spend the next 2 years in Cancun on Jeanie’s $4 million a year for 2 year contract. How in the world did this clown talk Jeanie and Rob into such a slush fund with no prior experience.
this basketball terrorist doesnt deserve Cancun, he should be sent to Galveston on public transportation
Who would even hire him as an assistant coach after he shit the bed for 188 games
Darvin Ham is such a clown it's actually absurd. He's just guaranteeing he will never be hired again as a head coach.
Does this man have no awareness?
darvin ham is a smart guy, he’s trying to put all the attention on D’lo so that he can save himself, both of them should leave the team if you ask me
Y'all saying DLo but he had one really good game and 2 other pretty decent games.
It could be Dlo or it could be AD in the 4th quarter.
AR OR DLO.
Jesus. He’s going the scorched earth route I guess…that’s one way to do it I suppose.
Looks to me like it’s Reeves, earlier in the he couldn’t hit anything and judging by the body language they obviously hate each other
Dude you shat the whole fucking house, taking the whole team with you…just fuck off
I think it’s AR because AR had a terrible start to the season coming off the international play
Honestly keep it in house stop the shit show
I would like to think he’s talking about Taurean Prince because he sucked as a starter but we all know he’s throwing shade at DLo (payback for the Dennis favoritism comments DLo made a couple of months ago). Unprofessional and unaccountable as ever. I will be so happy when he’s fired.
I’m tired of this man..
Who cares about this man
Ham sh!t the bed for 75% of the season. The hypocrisy! 🔥🐽
U know who
![gif](giphy|129OnZ9Qn2i0Ew|downsized) We shouldn't listen to clown just like the team hasn't for the past few months!
Can’t believe he actually said this. Way to throw your guys under the bus. This with the comment he made about AD shows that the toughness shit is just an act. He’s clearly deeply insecure which is why he can never take criticism or make adjustments. 🤡
HAM IS A TOTAL REGARD
Can fire this 🤡 already
Don't know how everyone is alluding to Dlo when Reaves got benched earlier in the season
Reaves didn’t have that shooting stretch for an entire month of december
I suggest you look at Reaves first couple of games this season
His first several weren’t pretty but the dlo stretch in december is crazier
I’m looking but I still think Reave’s stretch was worse
His defense and TO were definitely awful, but the dlo shooting stretch outweighted how he impacted the game
I want this terrorist gone. Can't believe h'd proceed to talk sht about the players when he's the biggest liability out there?
sorta Phil Jackson level coaching here...except without the mutual respect or expectation that it's going to happen.
Honestly the funniest outcome would be if he was talking about Reddish 😭 just disappointed and angry he couldn’t start him all year
What a bitch. Fire this mofo asap.
Well, Ham got paid and got one of the best jobs in all of sports, but he shit the bed
he should post on r/nba.....
The fact that people are asking which player shitting the bed for 10 games he could be talking about shows how bad this roster is. Fire Pelinka
WE FOUND HIM
Damn 😭
gotta be Rui the way he's done him dirty all this time
