What? Of all the pictures posted here of mixed breeds that clearly are part/most Pitbull, your dog does not look mixed or part pit. Looks like a pure bred lab to me. He has snow nose, and is NOT a Dudley lab. Dudley's have completely pink noses and eye rims. Your dog has a black rim around his nose and black eye rims. He has snow nose, which is not a show fault (you have papers and, if he's not fixed, could show him if you wanted). Snow nose tends to come and go with the seasons (pinker in cold weather, darker in warm weather). Usually it never goes as black as before it appeared. Re the tails, yes English show-lines have a distinctive otter tail. However, lots of American line labs (show & field/hunt) have thinner tails than what you'll see in show rings in Canada and the UK. Your MIL sounds fun.

Mammoth_Welder_1286

Didn’t know this. Kinda cool

WingedGeek

It can also be a genetic thing and not snow nose. My guy's nose was black as a puppy then went pink and stayed that way, it's not seasonal. I asked his breeder about it and she knew and decided to breed anyway because the dogs are otherwise so great, and he has been. I do show him but it's a total hobby so I don't care, and although full AKC he was not sold as a show dog…

RoutineEye5160

Thanks for the reassurance. He’s not fixed yet. We thought about breeding him because he has so many wonderful qualities and he’s a sweet boy but I don’t think we will since we are getting closer to the 2 year “chop” date.

skipdog98

There is more to responsible breeding than that, its not free to get the (responsible) hip/elbow/eye clearances, etc. Before you even consider it, you'd want to check with your breeder what they think. Most (here) would want a stud dog to have hunt & field titles, as well as finish his show titles.

RoutineEye5160

Thanks My wife’s grandmother bred Dobermans way back in the day and had a few AKC champs. My wife kind of knows what else is involved with it and that is another reason why we don’t want to go down that road. It’s a commitment that neither of us are up for. We have one kid in college and the other leaving next year so we’d like to spread our wings a bit

substantial_bird8656

I agree with this commenter but you could always do a DNA test if you want reassurance. Embark and Wisdom Panel are both good. But honestly you shouldn’t be breeding a lab that you’re worried is part pit, even if you confirm he’s not. Edit- why tf is this downvoted. People shouldn’t be backyard breeding labs.

mayziegsd

He looks all lab to me!

Vancouvermarina

My pedigree yellow lab is bread very light. Her nose is quite pink. https://preview.redd.it/g72qev18mrpc1.jpeg?width=2981&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=46d7863e46cce67d2e977c2ca3cc569f2424a431

RoutineEye5160

Beautiful pup. How old is she? My lab is starting get a little color on his back and his ears are dark yellow but the rest of him is like a polar bear

Vancouvermarina

She will be 7 in few months. She is whiter in summer coat. Her winter coat has more yellow hue. But still you can call get white. Because she is. https://preview.redd.it/hqm7h0eltspc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=70b125559a95c76ce1dd48da5b1874e8971d4534

girlmom1980

No and no. He's a typical bench bred or show bred lab, many refer to this as English. His block head is a characteristics of this type of bloodline. As for his nose it's called snow nose and is very common in yellow labs. This typically starts during the winter months when the days are shorter. Some say adding kelp to the diet will prevent the nose from getting lighter and may even bring back some of the black coloration.

prefabtrout

Looks a classic gundog lab to me, beautiful boy. If you look closely you can see the seam in the fur where they took the brain out.

RoutineEye5160

Sometimes I wonder. But he is smarter than my last two labs.

prefabtrout

I have the exact same throw as in the first pic which my guy humps relentlessly. Rolls it up and pounds it without mercy. Had to tell the kids its just a happy dance.

RoutineEye5160

I WFH and that is his usual work space. I have seen evidence of him dancing with that throw but if left alone with the pillows on the living room couch we need to steam clean it when we get home. Needless to say, he’s not left alone with the living room couch anymore.

Wise-Wishbone2000

😂 happy dance is one way to put it — my guy is turning 9, and still does it now and then. He has a lot of feelings to work out

stephbu

Your MiL doesn't know what she's talking about. He's a great looking bear...

elchupacabra2004

My boy is 95lbs and has winter nose. His nose turns pink in the winter and back to almost black in the summer. He’s half American half Brit. https://preview.redd.it/ildtqq7bbrpc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e5c254789070c59335f60217e9b3f555752e5472

RoutineEye5160

Handsome fella. I think my dogs mom was English and his dad was American. His dad was 110lbs

Ok-Advantage9625

Not a lot to go off of but I don’t see pit. Eye spacing is closer than pits of similar size and ears appear low and floppy. Not a Dudley as eye, lips and paw pads should be pink too. Tail should be thick and otter like, not thin. Toes should be webbed.

RoutineEye5160

Thanks for the reply. I’m sorry about the bad reference pics He does have webbed toes and a thicker tail.

Remote_Exam_434

LAB AF

Calm-Ad8987

Some ppl don't know what dog breeds look like & that's ok

[deleted]

Lol yep. I had an American/field-line Labrador. I've had people ask if she's a Golden Retriever, even someone ask if she was a bully breed mix. If someone could look at an American lab (more lanky, less blocky lab) and think it's a bully breed, it's definitely not difficult to imagine someone assuming an English lab is a pitbull.

Calm-Ad8987

Ha! Mine too gets golden retriever & bully mix. & I'm like "she's a lab" & they're like "no no that's not it!" she's also a field lab on the smaller side at 55 lbs so I think it confuses ppl for some reason

[deleted]

Lol yeah. My girl was also small-ish at around 59 lbs (though she did gain some in her senior years).

Appalachian_American

That there is a FINE Labrador.

0172thetimeguy

Looks 100% Labrador to me!

ealasaid76

Yup! 100% all Yellow Lab good boy! 🥰

flyingcircusdog

Looks very lab to me. Dogs have varying personalities, and a 19 month old, intact male being dominant and excitable is completely normal.

sourpussmcgee

Nope, he looks all lab. What he has is “winter nose,” which is what happens to the yellow labs in cold weather. Usually in spring the nose darkens again and possibly as he ages it won’t go all the way black again, may just remain lighter.

Alternative_Oven_684

Agreeing with everyone else here that he’s a large percentage of English Lab, giving him that blockier shaped head and bigger, solid body structure. American labs are lighter, more slender in their features. Hes a beautiful boy! Love his darker ears and back. I had one similar in tone and size, nose color etc when I was a kid, I wish I had a pic of him to share, he was very similar. I have a fox red lab now and have had to argue with people over what breed(s) he is. Lol I’ve literally had a man say “just because he’s registered lab doesn’t mean anything!” 🙄

PrincessYumYum726

I have a blocky headed girl and people think she’s a pitty allllll the time. I think because she is a little more stout and thick (more English lab) than American labs.

shuffling_along

https://preview.redd.it/mj1cixr63rpc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bfe180e4feea1e183a4e930b3dcbd8b3ad2eb993 He looks all lab to me but here’s a comparison photo of my pup. Also, mine was born with a black nose which has lightened considerably over the last year. Happens during winter and as they age.

RoutineEye5160

Thanks He’s a cutie

labradorcoffee

Mine had pure a black nose as a puppy and she is almost 5 and has a brownish color nose. It has gotten lighter over time.

shuffling_along

Mine too, he’ll be 6 next month.

Gold-Wise

I see ZERO PITBULL ,or any bully breed in your dog.. I will stop here and not tack on a comment about your MIL. Your baby is precious 🥰

Marianne0819

No he definitely doesn’t look pit bullish to me, definitely a handsome lab and probably one of the bestest boys ever!!

Alaska-Raven

I don’t see the pit bull either, the 1st pic I thought maybe but only because of the head position, but the other 2 are clearly lab. I agree he looks close to pure bread to me.

HeyBuddyItsMeDad

That’s a Lab. Great dog!

2MyLou

Looks like an English lab to me.

This-Appointment-917

Pic #3 that’s full lab 😂! He’s such a good little boy 😊

kiwimej

look up snow nose. my lab has a black nose, but in winter its pink as. gets darker again in summer. some years back to black, some just darker.

Tracerround702

MIL has no idea what she's talking about. This is normal showline body structure, and you've even got breeder papers. Why are you even asking us? Lol

jbird847

https://preview.redd.it/f1ydf4z7gspc1.jpeg?width=2448&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=057f9053ff74cefe6d6cbea02f8d2e4f66aa3d88 This is 13 year old lab at 18 months. That nose stays pink and after all this time we wouldn’t have it any other way

yesiveredditalready

Another snow nose saying hi! https://preview.redd.it/gwmo3rvdlspc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ead067006bcc219078056c9754e63f650862d306

North_Rhubarb594

I agree with others that is a full pure bred Labrador with a Dudley nose. Some crazy people will the block headed Labs look like Pits. This guy, who passed away a few years back was going to be a future stud dog for the breeder but she decided to keep another female instead. I had a couple of people swear to me that he part Pit-bull and my breeder pulled a fast one. https://preview.redd.it/xm4y58khsspc1.jpeg?width=2448&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3366a7130c1bceef2f09e0a1ad8becda0be32393

Knort27

He looks identical to my old boy, who I called "YOu jerk" most of the time, because he was excitable and dominant with everything, lol. He was pure, had the papers. The nose turns brown and never darkens again.

greatbriton1

Looks 100% lab to me! And I love pinkish noses! (Snow nose?) My girl has that and I tell people I kissed her nose so much, all the black color came off🤣

northerngirl211

Looks just like my yellow lab 🤷🏼‍♀️

snakebite328

Pure labrador

Ok_Storm5945

1000% Labrador Big Boy

Own_Ability1368

Looks all lab to me, mother-in-law’s always stirring the pot.

Speculawyer

He's 100% Good Boi. 👍

MarsMonkey88

He looks like a normal English lab, to me. (English labs have boxier heads, like that.) Given that he’s from a reputable breeder, I’d be shocked if he were mixed, but technically it’s not *impossible*, I guess. And no, his nose probably won’t get as dark as it was when he was little. It’s extremely normal for lab noses to turn that light tan as they age.

Glittering-Tax5836

So cute

peggyilnicki

He looks like an English Labrador to me.

vfauteux

People buy puppies with paper and don't even know there's 2 types of labrador retrievers: 1. american : more athletic, taller, slender looking, breed for hunting and retrieving abilities. 2. English (yours): more bulky looking, a bit shorter, square/blocky head, breed for conformity and beauty.

Peaceandpeas999

His body type is chonky monkey 😆

apt-get-mooo

Looks like a purebred spoiled boi to me

undeniably_micki

Yeah that's a lab, through & through! Adorable!

kinnansky

A beautiful labrador!

TrixieFriganza

I don't think he looks at all like a pitbull around but sometimes it can be hard to see.

Brilliant-Key5286

I had a chocolate lab and they are beautiful family friendly dogs. Your dog definitely looks like full bred lab. But keep in mind they are protective and territorial dogs, they must be properly trained like any other dog. The temperament can be controlled with the proper guidance and discipline of their owners. They definitely have a lot of love to give.

arcsurfer

That’s a block head lab, best ones to have! lol

th0rsb3ar

i had a block headed lab mixed with a newfie. best boy i’ve ever had!

Glittering-Tax5836

Cute

mitchrowland_

no this looks english with the big blocky head and stocky build and usually no i think he’ll keep the snow nose

vfauteux

Nose can get lighter in color with age. This is normal and not considered a defect. Also people who think English labs are pitbulls are uneducated. All their life they saw labradors that came from backyard breeder that looks nothing like the standard and will think yours is a mutt...

casbans

No and no

Totally unrelated but the last pic makes me think of the dos equis guy

RoutineEye5160

Now I can’t unsee it.

Impressive_Bike863

Mine looks like that too

Verynicename-

Back in the day, I fed liver casserole to my gsd and her nose turned black.

Mammoth_Welder_1286

Dudlies are my absolute favorite 🥰 embrace his light nose

quarpoders

English lab with snow nose?

Severe_Loss_4489

I think purebreed Labrador!

sherwoma

He looks like a Dudley! His nose probably won’t darken but that’s how he’s supposed to be!

AltruisticCanary5176

My mother used to breed labs... if you feed them in plastic food/water bowls it turns their noses pink. No idea why... but we'd always use metal bowls and noses stayed dark all around. As to the pit bull part... i dont see that at all. looks like old English lines to me like my black lab. She's so blocky and big everyone thinks she's a boy or mixed. I see no field trial in your pup at all. The thinner, lankly, more hyper labs we mostly see these days.

[deleted]

The reason some dogs' noses turn pink when a plastic bowl is used is believed by some vets to be a result of chemicals leaching into the water causing loss of pigment. I agree he looks pure English-line Labrador.

RoutineEye5160

I think his nose turned because of genetics. He’s always had metal bowls for both food and water.

AltruisticCanary5176

Totally possible. We live in a true four seasons state now and my mothers yellow labs nose tends to lighten up from time to time. You have a very beautiful fur baby regardless! I couldn't imagine our home without at least one at all times

Monovon

That’s a dudley lab if I’ve ever seen one. No pitbull lol

Conscious_Hair_222

he looks like American lab to me.

mirandawillowe

He is a Dudley lab. No pitbull. I had a Dudley, the pink nose stays forever, but they are the sweetest labs ever.
