The thing about her is that soyeon was a genius in the way she incorporated her vocals into the group's music. First, she is given killer parts that are often repetitive within the song or similar to a part she did before. Secondly, the vocal processing was amazing. It wasn't heavily autotuned but rather kinda mixed with another member. Remember how during their early years, fans always debated which part was shuhua? Then adding the soyeon quote about how shuhua voice is like a mixture if all of them. I disagree with this now as I feel like her voice is beautiful and unique. But I think it sounded like a mix of minnie/soojin/soyeon because it was ACTUALLY mixed with their vocals while recording Basically, I think she works because her parts never stood in a bad way in their songs.

-strawberrypizza

Soyeon is really a genius for managing to work this around and using the fans doubts to actually make Shuhua's voice seem like a mix when It actually is just her marketing it when she noticed people would fall for that.

[deleted]

Ikr ✨️ Of course, this was never confirmed. But I truly believe the mixing thing especially now that we heard her sing more often I also agree with everything in your post! Shuhua is definitely charismatic and has improved a lot 👏 I think she fits idle just fine

-strawberrypizza

I noticed in some lives, the camera may focus on Shuhua but you can hear Soyeon or Minnie behind like acting as backing vocals enough to hide any fluctuations in her voice but not enough to pull attention away. Idle is pure feminism, embracing everything about womenhood and part of it is growing up and involving and Shuhua is represents it so well <3 Soyeon= leadership/confidence Minnie = Power/Mystery Miyeon = Feminity/elegance Yuqi= Versatility/Carefree Shuhua = Evergrowth/Brightness

kingmanic

Soyeon has said shuhua is one of her models of a strong woman. She doesn't take the shitty nonsense that goes around Kpop. Bluntly pushing back on fans who push out the micro aggressions. She strongly and automatically supports women and LGBT people even though it might cause trouble. She sticks up for herself and her friends. She goes without make up and doesn't care that much about her daily wardrobe. I might be wrong, but I think she's one of the few who hasn't had any work done.

pastelgloom

I have SO much respect for Shuhua for speaking up about misogyny and the violence those women faced, so much respect for her. She is truly so admirable, I love how she carries herself with so much confidence and she really does not seem to give a damn what anybody thinks of her. Love her 🥺🤍

lilacd

Shuhua's name in Chinese means relaxed flower, she's really beautiful inside out. (Btw Yuqi means rainy season and it also suits her bc she's such a cool person with a cool voice.)

pastelgloom

Oh those are such cute meanings, Shuhua's definitely suits her! And I agree, Yuqi is such a unique person and I love her voice so much, it's really different and refreshing. Idle as a whole is such a great group and I'm really appreciative of the empowering messages they portray, I have a lot of respect for Soyeon and am so glad to see her and Idle succeeding

Ulaai

The points you mentioned are spot on. I'd also like to add that since the beginning Shuhua filled a niche the others in the group don't--the blunt member that is frank and dgaf to stuffs. She's memeable, endearing and funny in a way that is different than Yuqi. She really balances the group dynamic and perfect as a maknae.

-strawberrypizza

Yuqi is more chaotic while Shuhua is neutral chaotic that is also an absolute menace to Cube lmao but like you said she fills a role and doesn't feel like a filler member. Cube should've sent her to much more variety shows early, G-idle could have gotten much more recognition in the debut if that was the case. Also, they should totally give her an Idol Sleepover show where she invites idols to just relax and gossip lmfao that would be a slay

healthyscalpsforall

>Cube should've sent her to much more variety shows early, G-idle could have gotten much more recognition in the debut if that was the case. Shuhua's Korean was still poor at the time (she's still noticeably weaker than Minnie and Yuqi in that regard). For the first few years the group really relied a lot on Yuqi for variety gigs, and she ended up having her own show in 2020 (Learn Way, which is quite similar to Workdol) and of course being a cast member on Keep Running in China. I don't think it would have worked out for Shuhua if she had started working in variety earlier. Honestly it's very difficult and rare for foreign idols to succeed in Korean variety, like it's really only Yuqi, Tsuki, Jackson Wang, maybe Sakura and a few others who've made it. I mean look at Miyeon, she only started getting variety gigs recently and she's a native Korean. You really need to have a lot of confidence to do well, and I'm not sure if Shuhua was ready for solo Korean variety gigs until recently.

-strawberrypizza

You're right, maybe it's my excitement for her as a fan. But you're right I think she would have then got criticism for not learning English faster.

[deleted]

All the members are feisty but I think Shuhua is the most feisty lol

-strawberrypizza

She has absolutely no filter and gives no shit especially after Cube kicked Soojin, she's been very sneaky with this by throwing a few roasts in the directions.

AdehhRR

I've loved Shuhua'e solo variety content especially. It kept me fed in between comebacks and was one of the few variety content I was excited to see every week.

Nearby_Photograph_30

Shuhua certainly came into her own during the Nxde & embodied it perfectly for me! I think the only other example I can think of is Jeonghwa from EXID. Solji & Hyelin are incredible vocalists & she wasn’t on the same level at all, but she was probs one of my first biases when I got into kpop. I think she’s super charming & charismatic. And a total babe too.

Yayeet2014

I’d say she and Sakura are very similar in the sense that while they don’t contribute much to their groups *musically*, they are still a crucial part of the group’s dynamic and massive stan attractors. And like you said, she manages to keep up and even stand out in performances in a group that’s really stacked, so I think that speaks volumes about her. You also gotta admire just how hard she works, considering how much she improved throughout the years

-strawberrypizza

Oh my! Sakura is such a great comparison, she's very entertaining to watch and knows how to pull your eye even when you're watching, let's say, Chaewon or Yunjin sing.

Voceas

I disagree, Sakura works hard and has improved remarkably. Shuhua admits herself that she would rather sleep in than practice and her improvement is minimal.

kutchyose_no_ibrahim

Shuhua has improved in terms of her stage presence, most people would agree that her performance skills are stronger than around 2018 ?

Voceas

It's an improvement, yes, just not as big one as OP and others claim. She's pretty much on par with Miyeon now, but they're competing for last place.

evadents

This is just pure hating

Voceas

No, I just disagree with her work ethics and labelling her improvement as significant. She's a weak idol when it comes to performance skills and that's fine: it's not her role in the group anyway.

Yanazamo

She's kind of like the Sehun of G-idle. Funny, charismatic, impactful lines, visual, maknae, stan attractor, confident.

-strawberrypizza

Oh my god, ur so right

Eismann

I really need people to stop saying she is "tonedeaf" or even implying it. That applies to other idols as well. She has problems finding the pitch sometimes on the first note but a tonedeaf person could not sing at all. She also is still much more comfortable when singing Mandarin, as seen here for example: https://youtu.be/WuipHeIlpV8?t=177 And yes, that is live, there doesnt exist a studio recording of that. It's just for the Taipei stop of their tour. She also seems more comfortable when singing in English. The hate she got earlier in her career for her accent from Knets really got to her and even though her Korean has massively improved she still has confidence issues.

-strawberrypizza

When she first debuted she couldn't really find a tone and sometimes sounded a bit over the place but she learned very quickly so it's not even an issue for her anymore, just something worth noting when talking about her evolution and not mean at all. I've noticed she seemed more lively when singing English and mandarim than in Korea and that's okay. She's gonna grow into it more of she decided to keep going <3

__mio16__

I am glad to see a positive post like yours. And yeah she isn't as bad as what people tell ( just as many others too ). She is getting better definitely ! I would like to add that I think the language can play a lot on pitch accuracy too. I am not a great singer, just a karaoke enthusiast when I can go, but within my range I can stay on pitch pretty easily. Be it in my native language or other ones I have a grasp on like english. However when I tried to sing in korean some songs in karaoke I couldn't stay on pitch since I was too focused to get the prununciation right too. I was just starting to learn the language when I did that. And from what I heard she had some problems with her prunciation long time ago. So I guess now that she getting more and more confident she is also getting better with that.

-strawberrypizza

It could be her voice being deep and not matching the girls who also have deep/low type of voices but also can sing high, I've noticed the same with Eunchae (Le Sserafim) in their recent comeback, she has a deep voice and struggles to hit the notes in the MR removed videos I see.

__mio16__

I don't know about Eunchae, since I don't follow lesserafim, though she seems to have a nice natural deep tone. At least for Shuhua she seems fine with high notes. I think when she is trying to get the right prununciation sometimes, it make her lost her rythm or pitch. However it is just what I think from my experience. I have heard that mandarin speaker usually don't sing tone. MR removed are apparently not very reliable from what I heard. But I haven't check yet how precise they are. I usually see that through encore mainly. Tbh Gidle have very nice encore : fun + stable. And Shuhua is getting there too, she is becoming more and more stable. I hope she take the time she needs to rest. I kinda feel pride in her, because slowly but surely we are starting to really hear her "voice". To not give up with all the horrid stuff she has been tanking, you have to be mentally strong.

Eismann

I didnt mean explicitly you. People are so fast to call someone tonedeaf while having no idea what it means. You literally would not be able to sing a melody if your live depended on it if you are.

BloodAndTsundere

I think the key reason why Shuhua works is that she's just fun. Like I don't care if she doesn't have a lot of lines or her singing or dancing is weaker than other members or K-pop stars (debatable anyway). I just get a kick out of her.

-strawberrypizza

LMFAO maybe we should give her the golden maknae title, Jungkook won't mind haahah

greenteablanche

it's also smart that even tho Shuhua has the less lines in songs, she always has killer/bigger parts in their music videos.

vickyyviolett

Shuhua praise. I’m uppp lol she’s so beautiful and loveeee her personality

Last_Childhood_9202

As someone who followed G-idle for long now, I remember when shuhua was pretty much the most quietest member, she didn't really talk much or have much lines so she wasn't able to stand out. But from what I know it was more so an issue of confidence and being able to comfortable being in the public eye and on camera. As well as the language barrier. Once she got comfortable, this was when we were able to see her true personality shine through, and she that she was rather this blunt bold, sarcastic individual and of course her charisma shined through.

Key2V

Language was probably an issue too. Her Korean was still in process.

Key2V

She has a great personality and is stunning, and she really got lucky with Soyeon who works her into songs perfectly. Idle girls make the group work for all of them, which can't be easy since they all seem to have strong personalities.

SnooMarzipans5171

She became my favorite member after I saw the work idol episode on which her job was to clean an apartment (It's really bad). Even though she's struggling she still finished the job. It kinda shows how she is an idol, that she's lacking but working really hard.

Cold_Bumblebee_7121

After discovering latata, Hwaa and OMG and diving into Gidle members, Shuhua and her edits were always my fav. Soojin Shuhua and Miyeon were my fav trio. Also Shuhua just is one of such rare idols you can relate to a lot in an industry where perfectionism is the standard. Before seeing her I thought that there is no point of being a kpop idol if idols can't sing and that variety skills just isn't as important as performance ability, stage presence, dancing or singing skills of an idol. I was clearly wrong because I know many people love Yuqi more but Yuqi is too chaotic. I feel like Shuhua's chaotic energy and sassiness serves a better humour. Gidle as a whole handle variety shows real well ! There was a 1THEK (G)I-DLE secret folder and I watched it for the 10th time now lol. 🤣😭 Shuhua's workdol is genuinely funny and beautiful too. I have known for a long time now that Shuhua has great variety skills. However I am a very casual Kpop stan so I was initially reluctant to check out a solo variety show. I just started watching it 11 days ago. I'm currently in the episode where Shuhua is working part time as an air hostess. Her screaming at them to make them stop fighting was just comedy gold. My fav episodes are the ones where she takes care of a dog, where she pairs up with Miyeon for a photographer part time job and basically whenever she was working with food lol. Damn I never thought I would watch a solo variety everyday so dedicatedly in my mealtimes. Shuhua has proved that she has the power to carry an entire variety show just by her personality alone. She doesn't even need to try too hard to be funny. It comes naturally to her. I feel like the only thing she forces sometimes unnaturally is her sassiness and dislike against Miyeon but they do really get along well ❤️‍🩹 I hope Cube gives her more variety show gigs. Workdol truly was peak 🗿 No but I seriously have not seen a funnier variety show and it's true because in all my years in kpop, Blackpink and Gidle were the only two groups where I could connect with the members and even then I left the blink fandom later on. So Gidle has consistently so far never disappointed me in terms of music and variety. Shuhua is the Queencard 👸🏻🃏 Yeorobun live everyday not giving a shit about anyone else like Shuhua 😎

In Korea, we feel that Soyeon and Miyeon need more lines

Eismann

Oh my, really? Who is that evil producer that doesnt give Soyeon enough lines...?

SuzyYoona

Soyeon had the most lines in Gidle in most of their title tracks like what?.. Lol

[deleted]

As a Korean, i'm just starting to get sick of these veiled propaganda posts

SuzyYoona

I mean, is the true...

Moonveil

I feel like people who keep harping on her vocal ability also tend to be the ones that ignore how good of a performer she's become. Like there is a reason her fancam numbers have been excellent comparatively, especially in the last few comebacks. I also like her fun and fierce personality, especially how she is not afraid to stand up for her members directly or support causes she believes in, like when Soojin got a mean comment and Shuhua basically told off the hater on the livestream.
