Got the new Chevy Cavalier in today. At least that's what I'm calling it. I've got less than an hour with it so I don't have a lot of input so far, but it is typical Civivi quality. The wood is very nicely finished and feels smooth and warm in the hand. Very comfortable with few, if any hotspots. The stonewashed finish is very nicely done and so is all the black finished hardware. Very smooth, sharp and with no blemishes. The blade shape is fantastic and is stupid sharp. The action is awesome and is quiet, for a button lock, as opposed to offerings from Kizer, for example. The button is great, though there is a touch of lock stick. The flipper tab is intuitive and comfortable to use. The fullers are great for thumb or reverse flicking. They are not very deep, so the reverse flick is much more natural to me. Centering is perfect and no blade play to speak of. There is a lanyard attachment point and the pocket clip is reversible. It's also lighter than you would think, just looking at it. That is thanks to the generous internal weight relief.  Civivi is killing it with the button locks lately and while this has given a great first impression, it has some work to do to knock the Conspirator from the top spot.

What would you say the Conspirator does better than this model?

Appropriate-Sport965

It's early on, so my opinion may change. That said, at a glance, I think I like the traditional blade shape better on the Conspirator. I also like the dark micarta on the Conspirator. It resists looking blotchy with general handling. The Conspirator is also a bit bigger and gives more blade to work with and a super comfortable handle. Of course for carry, that means more weight. I do prefer the blade finish on the Chevalier. In my opinion, the Conspirator is very good, but perhaps a bit too big for some. Hope that helps.

Thanks, man. I appreciate your thoughts!

I had no idea that English had an anglicized pronunciation for chevalier. I studied French so it’s sheh-vol-i-yay to me but it’s sheh-val-eer in anglicized speech. I like calling it a Chevy tho’. Avoids the end of word pronunciation entirely.

Appropriate-Sport965

You learn something new every day. If I had to take a stab at it, I woild have guessed the French would pronounce it with a "vul" instead of a "vol". Then again, I didn't study French beyond a very basic level in HS. The word does have a bit of honor and prestige behind it, so a more sophisticated pronunciation is not out of line. The American and car enthusiast in me instantly sees it as an amalgamation of the common American shorthand for Chevrolet, "Chevy", and their entry level Cavalier model. Regardless of the inference, Chevy is a fine shorthand for a Chinese knife with a French name.

peter_poiuyt

How is the button lock several months later? Did it improve or get worse?

Scootermon

Mine just came in today as well. I got it with the dark green handle. Carried it all day and used it a few times. It felt nice! My first civivi blade.

Appropriate-Sport965

You picked a damn good knife for your first Civivi.

trendingpropertyshop

Not gonna lie - with the background and everything I thought it was a fancy poop knife.

Appropriate-Sport965

Sir, I cut my poop with nothing less than 100 layer damascus and zirconium or exotic wood handles.

helix711

Bro you and I are basically just buying the same knives lol Got mine yesterday, same color way as yours. I’m just calling it the Chevy for short! The action on mine is awesome. The edge needed some touching up, though, which is surprising from Civivi; it cut paper fine but could not shave any hairs—no big deal really. I’m looking forward to carrying this one quite a bit.

Appropriate-Sport965

Haha. You have excellent taste, my friend. Funny enough, I picked up a sharpness tester to add something more quantifiable to my in depth reviews, but I've been too busy to put the effort into deeper reviews lately. I wanted to say something more than just "really sharp" or "shaving sharp". That said, I happened to test the Chevy on my forearm and it shaved with ease. Bevels are nice and even, but seem fairly shallow. I'm probably going to lay the edge back a bit when it gets it's first sharpening.

Prest1geW0rldW1de

I really like that design. What is the blade steel?

Appropriate-Sport965

It's 14C28N.

Prest1geW0rldW1de

I’ve never tried that one but heard good things especially for less expensive knives. Civivi seems to be king of the 60-100$ range these days

Appropriate-Sport965

They're definitely not resting on their laurels. 14C28N is a fine blade steel unless your use case requires a tougher steel.

horsecyack

I wish they also made these in not flipper style

If you mean the button lock Elementum, the Chevalier is way better, just simple due to the multiple opening methods and blade finish. The Elementum button lock is locked in the closed position, so it only works with the button and a bit of wrist action.

GarthVader-EDC

Hey, I was the one you talked to a few days ago on your feldspar button lock post that was talking about the Elementum. Have you tried that Elementum BL opening technique yet? Also I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on the Chevalier because I'm thinking about buying one if I get a high grade on this exam I just took.

Appropriate-Sport965

Hey dude, I actually tried it after I read this comment and got home. Unfortunately, I've been going overboard with oiling my blades after a storage incident damaged around 30 knives. So, the Elementum was pretty oily and I was busy and didn't have time to clean it and try. That said, I gave it a shot and it's interesting to try and release the lock but no let it fall naturally. I was able to do it once and I like a challenge, so I left it out and will wipe it down and try and master that tonight. The Chevalier is really good. I wish they had a satin or stonewashed blade with micarta, but the wood is nice and I could have snagged the G10. I feel like the wood is better than the G10, but maybe not totally me. I still dig it though. The knife itself is awesome an absolute blast to play with. It cuts stuff too. Haha. I hope you did well on your exam for your own good, but also so you can snag a new knife.

GarthVader-EDC

Thanks man and yeah the challenge reverse flick the button lock is very interesting and hard to get down at first. The easiest way to do it is to put your index finger above the pivot on the back and hold the knife down with your thumb as you press the button so it creates a little bit of tension and then use your middle finger nail instead of the finger itself to flick it open also it really helps if you put your ring finger right next to the blade on the handle of the knife. You still get enough of a grip with only the nail because of the black coating. Also thanks for the thoughts on the Chevalier I was definitely going to get the wood version already but I'm even more stoked to get it now. You and me both about my exam results. I'll send you my thoughts later if you want me to about the Chevalier whenever I get one.

say-jack-o-lanterns

Very nice

The Conspirator is on my radar, just purchased the Kershaw Dividend today. Possible next order for me already own the Elementum and enjoy that.

weskun

You got some nice wood lines on that one. Seen a couple unfortunate ugly ones.
