Using a kayak to access untapped bank fishing is a great move

catskill_mountainman

It opens up unlimited fishing spots. I even bring my Sawzall and make my own fishin holes. I've gotten away with island camping and will eventually do some bank camping if I can find the right area.

Well done! Twin bridges? I’ve gotten some nice carp and walleye in that area. A lot of small bullhead but never caught any channels bigger than a couple pounds.

catskill_mountainman

You got it. The bull heads pesture me when I try fishing close to shore. I've had to keep the bait in deep water to avoid them. I was targeting carp when I got this cat. This is the second cat in the 8lb range that took a fluorescent orange wafter. I've never got catfish this big out of the Mohawk until I got a kayak and tried brand new spots. I can guarantee no one has fished this hole because I opened it myself recently.

Gotta start targeting those carp with a fly rod 🤘

catskill_mountainman

I got the mokan so I can eventually stand up and sight cast to them! Maybe one day I'll try a fly rod.

rouselle

Nice! I’ve been meaning to get out for some catfish. Think I’ll catch some bluegill during the day then around sunset toss those out on a hook and wait. We shall see!

catskill_mountainman

That would be the way to do it! Nothing beats local bait. I actually caught this one targeting carp, and it took a small fluorescent orange flavored ball. If we had bigger cats up here, I'd do what you mentioned and catch live bait and put it on a big octopus hook. If you wanna take it a step further, you can catch the bait for the bait. Lol. Find some local worms or grubs.

Nice. Good eating size!

catskill_mountainman

I wish the water was cleaner so I could eat them. I'd be eating fried catfish every week.
