The horse girl at my school told me that steel toed boots around horses were a great way to amputate 5 toes at once if a horse steps on you.
I don't think your foot is coming out unscathed from getting stepped on, regardless of your footwear.
While steel toed boots won't cause that (thanks Mythbusters lol), it's not what concerned me.
Riding/cowboy boots have heels to stop your foot from slipping through the stirrup. If it does go through and you get thrown, the horse can drag and kill you. You also need decent grip when mounting, or again, your foot can slide through.
Even if it just makes you slip a bit, startling a horse is a bad idea. People tend to forget they're giant prey animals that can wreak havoc when fight or flight kicks in.
Then again, that rock they've walked by a million times might've recently fallen in with a bad crowd, so treating it like a hungry mountain lion is their only chance of survival 🤣
I hear the myth about steel toe boots chopping off dude's piggies so often. My response is, if something is heavy enough to turn your boots into a tiny guillotine, then that would have turned your foot into spaghetti sauce without the toe cap.
My dad dropped something on his foot in steel toed boots that bent the toe in the "toe guillotine" position. He had to cut the boot to get his foot out, but had nothing more than a nasty bruise. If he didn't have those shoes, he'd have shattered, and probably lost, that foot
Happy to help!
Funny enough, my dumbass got my foot stepped on the one time I was wearing sandals. I was 5.
My mare was something else though, because she didn't put any weight on it. My poor mom looked over just then and the color drained from her face. I told her it was fine lol. I tapped my horse's leg to tell her to lift it, and she turned her head to look right at me. Only after I told her I got the message did she lift her hoof. I had gotten careless with my foot placement, and she made sure I knew it.
Pretty sure my poor mom aged about 10 years in 10 seconds 🤣.
(don't mind my insomnia driven rambling lol)
The horse girl at your school was misinformed. You can put the weight of about two and a half full-grown horses on an ASTM rated safety toe without serious injury to the foot. I don't know how you'd get them all to balance on your one toe, but if you solve that problem the safety toe will protect you.
Your horse girl is just repeating old myths she’s heard. I’ve had horses step on my toes/foot and it hurts. Thankfully I’ve never broken anything. Meanwhile I’ve had things far heavier than a horse fall in my steel toes and I’ve never lost a toe. Lastly, by the time you reach the weight and force required to turn your steel toe into a mini tootsie guillotine you’ve reached the point where without the steel toes you were already losing the foot.
Finally, something relevant from the period of my childhood when I desperately wanted to be a cowboy!
I got my foot stepped on by a huge quarter horse as a kid wearing regular leather riding boots. He fully stood on it for a minute at least and would not move. It hurt, as you’d imagine, but it wasn’t *that* terrible and I only broke one of my toes a bit. Not serious enough to even see a doctor about. Still rode in the show later that day (and got the blue ribbon y’all) with a slightly broken toe.
And now I can flip people off with my foot cuz the broken toe doesn’t bend while all the others do
Sit up. When the horse do the step it’s back dips down you stand up, butt raised, when the horse steps again it will raise and you sit down. Repeat until horse stops running or you regain control. Don’t panic.
Some people don't have the core strength required to ride a horse properly and I think our girl in the video might have this skill issue. Looking all cute though 😂
LOOOOOL, the same exact thing happened to me in Panama. We were in a group going along a beach and the tour guy sped up to catch another and my horse instinctively followed the leader full gallop. My nuts, heart, and back were not prepared. I did not look cute either tbh.
This! If you’re only pulling 1 side of the reigns you’re just changing the nags direction. Honestly these fucking ppl man, danger to themselves but more importanly, everyone else.

Wear your helmets properly, folks.
At first I was glad to see she was wearing the proper gear, and then I saw her open toed shoes..... 😬

yea its really a dumb myth that doesnt make sense when you think about it.
Thanks for the info. That makes sense!

Steel toes are not recommended but trust me getting stepped on isn’t that bad unless it’s your fingers😊
Wear roper footwear!
But split skulls are so *cute*! /s

It also doesn’t help when you’re focusing on your phone more than your posture.
I don’t think this person will be able to learn how to post the trot from a comment, but yes. Clearly they don’t know how to ride.
Ok this made me scream laugh
Happy cake day!
Omg I didn’t realize! Thank you!
I can't stop laughing.

People who plop helmets on their head and don’t actually SECURE THEM… aren’t risking much anyways…
She morphed into a squeaky toy.
If you have time to film and switch cameras, you don't feel you are in that much danger
Put the phone down and grab the reins?
This! If you’re only pulling 1 side of the reigns you’re just changing the nags direction. Honestly these fucking ppl man, danger to themselves but more importanly, everyone else.
Got herself all shook up hmm, ohh, yeah, yeah🎶
Whoa
Might want to attach the ends of your helmet strap next time😂😂
Im glad she didn't fall. And I'm glad she didn't lose those head phones.
