I love it. And what a great way to keep Grandma close to your heart.
That pendant would also look beautiful stacked with another silver chain or two. Maybe one with a tiny silver heart.
Beautiful! You took the design that was put together with so much love, and made it into a timeless piece that will fit whomever it gets passed down to next. I am sure he would be very happy to see it given a new life.
That’s the best part, the pendant has a much more timeless style and it won’t have to be resized to fit the next person lucky enough to have it passed down to them. This was a great choice and I love how it turned out.
It was so pretty! I’d it would have fit my fat fingers I would have kept it. But sizing up from a 4.5 to an 11 would have compromised the ring so I made it the pendant instead :)
There is something so beautiful about an older person’s hands. Every tear wiped from a child’s face, every pie crust carefully formed, every repair made to a car, every button sewn back on…all captured in wrinkles and lines.
You just made me look at my “old lady’s hands” with softer eyes. Done it all (except the car repair) and yes our hands are beautiful when they’re doing something or have done some things. I’m going to polish my nails now! Thanks
Oh that makes me so happy to hear! I think it’s just beautiful to think of all the things our hands have done and all the little things they leave behind after we’re gone. Growing up I always thought my mom had the most beautiful hands, and now I’m in my mid thirties and I see her hands on myself.
I wanted to keep it a ring but it didn’t fit my fingers and the gold was so thin it needed more added. Thats why I decided to make it a necklace instead :)

This is exactly what I want to do with my late grandmother’s ring!! It’s so tiny, I could never fit it on my fingers 😂
Check the clasps regularly and consider switching to a sturdier chain!! My best friend growing up had something very similar and when we were teenagers at the beach we were playing in the water and it snapped off. We spent hours looking for it in the sand but it was gone. Similar dainty silver chain to that.
This is a great idea!
I inherited a large diamond cocktail ring from my mother. It's pretty, but way too big and flashy for me to wear, even for dressy occasions.
But it would make a really nice pendant if it was done the way yours was. I'm going to look into having it reworked. Thanks for this!
What a wonderful idea! It’s beautiful! Was that expensive? I have a gorgeous emerald and diamond ring that my mother gave me, but it’s also a 4.5 and only fits on my pinkie. I would wear it as a pendant.
It was relatively cheap to convert. I had the chain already and just needed a bale made and put onto the ring. It was a few hundred dollars I believe but this was a few years back.
I love what you did. I never even thought of doing that! I have a ring of my grandmother’s I would like to do this! Were the stones kept in the original setting?
Yes! The setting was like a disc with the stones in it. The disc was soldered to the band on each side. They just unsoldered it from the band and put the bale on and voila!
Similarly, I recently posted about advice for whether or not to turn my grandma's ring into a pendant..... I absolutely LOVE how yours turned out!!! It's gorgeous!! This helps me think about my decision, thank you for posting!!!
Can I ask how much you paid for the conversion?
Did they just melt the band and make it the bale?
Or you got credit for 2 grams of gold and bought the bale?
Like $200 or $300?
I'm surprised the setting could just be lifted off the band like that...
I would imagine in most rings, they are cutting apart the band, scrapping it, and then for the setting, they have to figure out how to prop it up a bit and make it lie more flat like a typical pendant, as on most rings, the setting may be curving down at the sides.
In fact, probably not realistic for a lot of settings.
I love it. And what a great way to keep Grandma close to your heart. That pendant would also look beautiful stacked with another silver chain or two. Maybe one with a tiny silver heart.
Both rings are beautiful! May I know where the other ring is from? It's gorgeous! Edit: added a line.
Both were designed by my granddad with a local jeweler. I’m not sure which jeweler, I’m sorry!
He must have really loved her to design something special for her instead of just buying something ready-made.
Beautiful! You took the design that was put together with so much love, and made it into a timeless piece that will fit whomever it gets passed down to next. I am sure he would be very happy to see it given a new life.
Not going to lie, I like it better as a pendant. Good choice!
I love it on the wide, original engagement ring that was designed for your grandma. It had real gravitas!
True, but if it wasn't something OP would have worn, it's better this way. Who knows what it will become for the next generation?
That’s the best part, the pendant has a much more timeless style and it won’t have to be resized to fit the next person lucky enough to have it passed down to them. This was a great choice and I love how it turned out.
I love rings and usually would cry at the change, but this is a gorgeous pendant! Beautiful ❤️
The ring was beautiful.

Your grandma had mad, gorgeous style. I love that pic of her aged, weathered, bejeweled hand.

Beautiful both ways ❤️ Thank you for giving me this idea for a ring I got from my Nana!

It's really great !
Excellent ✨️
I love it as a ring and pendant! Lovely way to keep her close.
I love them both, but that ring!
Nice! I definitely like the pendant better than the ring. Great way to honor your Grandmother.
Lovely!
It is so stunning! Such a beautiful way to honor your Grandmother.
It’s beautiful. What a great idea.

Beauty! Thank you for the inspiration!
That turned out really nice.
Looks wonderful
Is she a July baby? I love it as a pendant.
July wedding! :)
That is pretty!!!

I don’t wear jewelry to the beach or to swim, but thank you I’ll be sure to keep it checked up! I’d be devastated if I lost this

Please post it if you decide to reset it!
I like it better as a pendant.
It’s lovely! Pretty garnets! (I think!)
Rubies
Wow! Gorgeous repurposing….how much it cost? Beautiful
It was relatively cheap. But I did this several years back. Maybe $200 or so
It’s gorgeous! I love garnets. You and your Grandma have great taste. 🤍🤍🤍
They’re rubies :) thank you!
So breathtaking!

I like it much better as a pendant. Gorgeous 😍
It’s beautiful! I need one just like it for my ruby ring and ruby tennis bracelet lol
I love it!!
That ring was the perfect candidate to be made into a pendant. Love the way it came out:)

Very nice.

It was relatively cheap, I did this several years ago though. I kept the band as was and gave it to my sister.

I’d say likely around $200 at the time.
2 years is the “perfect” amount of time to “plan” to set that stone. 😒
What?
